Turns Out, There Is An Unofficial Generation Called Zillennials And Here Are 40 Posts From The Facebook Group Where They Found Their People
InterviewEveryone wants to feel a sense of belonging to a certain group of people because usually it means they share similar interests and views on life. Generally speaking, it's easiest to find like-minded people who were born in the same generation because they all more or less were raised in similar political, economical and cultural environments, so they share a lot of similar experiences and memories.
The world is moving forward so fast that the year bracket for a generation is getting shorter and shorter and even then, some people feel like they don’t belong to any of them, like people who feel they are too old to belong to Gen Z, but too young to fully relate to Millennials. So they just came up with their own generation, combining the two and calling themselves Zillennials.
And they gathered in a Facebook group called Born Zillennial. They share memes, the reality they face today and things they remember from their childhood. Bored Panda collected some of the posts that got popular recently to give you a glimpse of what the community is all about.

Lol, they'd still be intact and useable 200 years later!

While not about this particular submission, but the whole thread: it's called a "cusper generation" and happens with just about every generation. Prior to the Zillennials, there are folks like me who are Xennials (on the cusp of Gen X and Millennials).
Several cars will do the trick. Dropped mine in the road and watched 3 cars run it over. Still powered on, but screen was obliterated.
My Ericsson T28s still works. And i also have a case to attach it to my belt...
My dad has this exact phone when I was a very young teen. I am now 30
Born Zillennial is a private Facebook group that currently has over 200k followers and was created by Matt Duffy. The ‘about’ section says that Zillennials were shaped in the early 2000’s and are a little bit of a Millennial but they also kind of relate to Gen Z.
It continues, “We bridge the gap between the non-digital and digital-first... basically, we get the Best of Both Worlds. If you’ve ever felt alone being stuck between two rigidly defined generations, welcome home. Now get in loser, we're unlocking memories you forgot you had.”
So We All Had The Same Teachers In School?? Some People Still Do This Now, And I Cannot Take It
I don't play along. Whenever someone does anything like this, I do it the first time then not again. If I get called out 'I did it the first time. Would you rather I skip the first time and wait until your good and ready to accept my participation?'
Like those assholes who tell you to smile because it makes you pretty.
If they don't like my first effort, they don't get a second one at all.
Zillennials Right Now 🥲
This needs to be fixed. We pay nearly that amount in rent every month and have since 2015. Why in the world do I have to cough up in excess of $20k first?? Makes no sense.
If you meet the income limit and don't mind living outside of major cities, usda rural development loan is fantastic. We got money back at closing by asking seller to pay closing and just offering asking price.
Load More Replies...They forget that rent is just rent. When you buy a house there comes a lot more on top of that. Legal fies, insurances, garbage disposal fees, sometimes water/ electricity/ heating is included in rent, it is not in the mortgage... and so on. So yes, maybe you can't really afford that house.
I haven't seen utilities included in rent in quite some time. When I lived near a college, yes. I'm currently looking for carpet cleaning to move out of my apt, needs to be professionally cleaned and deodorized, going to cost me about $400. I pay for all utilities separate. Renting costs a lot of extra $ too. If I was adding it to a lower mortgage instead of a higher rent I could do it much easier
Load More Replies...This is not just the younger generation that experiences this. I'm 50 & I get the same treatment. Lending policies suck.
Mortgage is the bank taking risk and giving you a loan. If the bank thinks you can't return 950$ each month to it for 20 years, he also thinks you can't do that with rent (but with mortgage it's the banks problem and it doesn't want that problem). Nothing is strange or absurd in this.
This is because a mortgage requires a down payment and around 15-30 years to pay off. Then you have homeowners insurance, property tax, and home maintenance. Add this all up and see if your mortgage is really cheaper.
Well after paying it off its yours and your rent increases every year with around 3 percent...
Load More Replies...We got in touch with the founder and he told us that everything actually started from a project assignment: “I started Born Zillennial as an assignment for one of my University of Florida College of Journalism & Communications (UF CJC) Online graduate courses. The class was Social Media Community Management and the assignment was to create an online community in the form of a Facebook Group.”
He revealed how he got the idea to focus on Zillennials to RooTV. “I was actually scrolling on Facebook and saw the Urban Dictionary definition of a Zillennial and I felt like I fit right in. I think it gave the years 1993-1998, but it basically said, you’re a little bit of both. I think I always felt that and I had heard the term. Then I started searching for it, saw it in some other places and I was like, alright, I can get behind this and I have nothing else for this assignment.”
It's A Hard Job But Someone Has To Do It
I have dedicated my long life to being the childless adult who does the fun things that the breeders cannot! And to you, my, uh, not-my-son-or-daughter, I pass the torch...
Yeah... parents can have fun too even with your kids. I see enjoy traveling to new places with my kids and seeing the enjoyment from their perspective.
On behalf of all the childful communities, I pledge to (try) enjoy my child free life!
Why do people who don't want kids feel the need to shout it from the rooftops? Nobody cares
Why do people who breed look down on those who choose not to?
Load More Replies...Oh yes, and we have time to think, debate and elaborate about how to improve the quality of humankind, while they're busy improving its quantity.
That timeline is correct. It applies to everything, not only music. I can vividly remember my life in the 80's and 90's but I have no clue of the last 20 years. Cannot distinguish last week from 15 years ago. It is one big puddle of time-mud.
Same!! Idk how im almost 40. Graduated in 2000 but surely that was yesterday.
Load More Replies...I need a music station that exclusively plays music from the 90's until 2014 ish. Aka, my childhood years. gimme that nostalgia. I've been making playlists but theres only so much I remember without hearing it first ;-;
In the TODAY portion, there have been massive changes to the music industry, and not all for the good.
When does "classic rock" turn into "oldies," 80s and 90s turn into "classic rock," and since I feel we've skipped at least one generational jump, early 2000s also I to "classic rock?" And why do I feel weird that the "classic rock" station also have Nirvana in heavy rotation?
It doesn't help that some things havn't changed much over the last 20ish years. Cars for example, 40's vs 50's, 50's vs'60's, 60's vs 70's, 70's vs 80's, 80's vs 90's. They were visibly different but since the 90's, most don't change much. Most have the same bubbly shape so a 95 blends right in with a 22.
If you are curious about how the project was seen by the professor, Matt let us know that they really liked his project and was excited with its success, “After going viral after a series of viral TikTok videos, he was instrumental in the early success of the community by ensuring I was providing a safe, active, and engaged online community. I received an A in the course after presenting my final report on Facebook Live in the group to ~10k viewers.”
To enter this group, one must answer three questions: 1. How did you find out about Born Zillennial? 2. What was your first phone? 3. What do you hope to gain by becoming a member?
The creator of the group commented that the word about it got far and new members heard about the group through various sources. Their motivations to join the community most often are to feel a sense of belonging, to be part of a community, to unlock childhood memories or to enjoy the nostalgia and find their people.
Y'all Remember Back In The Early Days Of Youtube Where If We Didn't Want The Video To Buffer Every Five Minute, We Would Wait For The White Line To Go All The Way To The End Of Video? Or Did I Just Have Really Bad Internet Connection?
Right. And I remember cheering the white line on to go faster, as to not get caught by the red line.
I'm just happy to not hear that schizo dial up tone anymore with internet connection. Made me want to scream! Ugh...

Same with languages. What did the poet mean by "the curtains are blue." He meant: THE CURTAINS ARE F*****G BLUE!
"The blue actually represented sadness and the mourning the main character was going through because of her deceased mother, and the curtains represented how there was barely any light in her life since her mother died"
Load More Replies...The best math quote I've seen is from Lisa of mobile tech review u-tube channel. Dear algebra, please don't ask me to find your X. I do not know where she is, and don't ask me Y.
I hate this part of geometry/math. Like it's RIGHT THERE why do I have to prove it *sob*
inside angles are 180, outside are 360, depending on the given angles, chose one of these to prove the object shape. its 5th grade math.
Yeah, I knew a lovely young man who was asked to leave a college-level maths class because he was asked to explain why 7 + 8 was 15. He said, "I added them in my head." Professor asked, "Yes, but what was your process?" He got really irate and said "I just used my frickin' brain."
Even though generations are defined by the year one is born and there is a general understanding that age is what separates people because they have different values and goals in life, Matt told us, “While we believe there may be different life experiences & cultural moments that shape—and separate—generations, there is no perfect answer to the generational divide. We believe in the Born Zillennial Mindset: if you can relate to feeling stuck or being lost between two rigidly defined generations, welcome home. We do not gatekeep age range, and believe anyone who would gain value from the content & community we share deserves to join us in our mission to unlock the past, embrace the present, and brighten the future.”
Because of this mindset, Matt says that they don’t “allow negative discourse between Millennials and Gen Z” as the Facebook group is meant to connect people and not divide them.
I Honestly Forgot About This. Lol 😂
I just got that awful tingle on my tongue, I hate the feel of those wooden spoons so much. urghh.
I kinda miss that. Liked to chew on them until they became splints. Ice cream just is not as tasty without them
I always used a regular spoon instead of the wood, because of how the wood tasted
Many upscale ice cream places (places that create their own ice cream from scratch using products from local farms) will give you free little tastes of their flavors using those wooden spoons. I suppose it's better to dispose of them in a landfill than to use small plastic spoons?
Same in McDonald's. Terrible wood taste after they switched to wood from plastic.
THIS! I mean, it's worth if for the environment but the taste....
My periods were so painful that sometimes they made me barf. A heating pad could never be too hot, no matter how red my skin!
Load More Replies...My chronic lower back pain is really the 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 reason I ever use the heated seats in my SUV.
LOL. First car I had with heated seats was German made and I soon found out why it had them, it was all that kept you from freezing to death in the winter. The engine would never get warm enough to open the thermostat so NO HEAT. On the flip side it was nearly impossible to keep cool in the summer. Ran so hot the AC would cut out.
I think this is more true the older I get. Not a Zlinneal...Gen X here
omg hilarious… because I bought a car with seated heats for my chronic pain condition 😅😅

He also placed Hercules on a sleeping Hera so he could breastfeed. She woke up and pushed him away. The milk spurted and became The Milky Way. Also Zeus would bang anything with a pulse.
Very little in the Disney version is accurate. My history teacher couldn't even use most of the movie when we were learning Greek history and folklore. (I don't think Greece history is ever taught without focusing mainly on folklore.)
95% of the drams in Greek mythology is either Male God couldn't keep it in his pants or Female God pissed at Male God for not keeping it in his pants. The other 5% is Mortal outdoes God (male of female) at something, God gets pissed at mortal.
Most of the problems in greek mythology involve him diddling somone.
It is really fun to read through the posts and remember the TV shows we watched as kids or toys we played with or see that other people had similar experiences while growing up, so we also wanted to know what the creator of the group enjoys the most about his project. For him, the most important part is the members: “Born Zillennial (BZ) would be nothing without our members joining, contributing, and reminiscing with one another each and every day. They submit a majority of the content.”
He goes into detail about the posts that he likes seeing the most, “My favorite posts vary across the three pillars of our mission: to unlock the past, embrace the present, and brighten the future. Posts shared by members that unlock the past or 'unlock memories' that we had collectively forgotten about are some of my favorites, from TV shows, toys, electronics, and internet history.”

nah dude we don't charge our phones until they are about to die. Guilty as not charged.
Load More Replies...This is so absolutely true. I'm delighted to realize it hasn't been just me.
I changed my text tone to the old school MSN messenger notification noise, changed my ringtone to the sound of a fax sending, and turned the volume on for the first time in years - every time I get a text or call around a millennial or zillenial we have a collective nostalgic moment now 😂
Over 25. Haven’t had my phone ring since I don’t know when. Anyway now your watch tells you what your phone it doing. Also silently but attached to my body. I have no idea if this is good or bad.
The only time I don’t have my phone on vibrate is when I turn my ringer on right before bed so my alarm wakes me up in the morning 😂
My cell phone is always on silent. I like to say that the phone is for 𝙢𝙮 convenience, not anyone else's.
For Sure I Had These, And Left My Lights On All Day While At School So They Would Get ‘Super Charged’ (I’m Sure My Parents Loved Me For That…)
The girl who lived in my middle school bedroom before me stuck those things AAALLLL over the walls. But, like, not the big plastic ones, just tiny little sticker ones. And then they painted over them. And then I moved in and they would STILL glow through the paint and drove me nuts but I couldn't get rid of them because paint and I hated those things with a f*****g passion.
I’ve never pictured unicorns being physically abusive…
Load More Replies...I always wanted them, my parents never let me put them because "they're going to damage the painting on the walls" -.- still salty about it 20 years later
if you put the comet-shaped ones on the fan blade then turned on the fan you'll have a really cool design-
Nostalgia is a very powerful and overwhelming feeling, so remembering the good old days does something with our hearts. But there are also things that Zillennials are experiencing now that they want to share and Matt doesn’t deny that he likes those posts as well. “Though, I equally enjoy when members embrace the present. This can look like networking threads to help with resumes or the job hunt, how to navigate post-grad life during a pandemic, and feeling alone or behind in life compared to others.”
I’m Not Detecting Any Lies Here…
Honestly, same. (Also, look at our profile pics. I think you're my nemesis. We just need a Chimchar to complete the set)

It seems that Matt just really loves this group and everything people are sharing, however, he confesses that he has his favorites: “My all-time favorite posts are the BZFF (Born Zillennial Friend Forever) where we encourage members to make connections—we've even seen posts shared from members who have connected IRL - or found a pen pal from across the globe—because of these posts.”
Let’s not forget the fact that Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, who is mentioned in the posts quite often, is a member of this community. Matt should be very proud of this achievement and he says “Miley Cyrus joining our community, sharing a post, and even responding to a trivia question about herself is a highlight of the group.”
IKR!! I have very strong opinions of what foods (or not even foods) people should turn into "flavors" of other foods! I mean one time I saw "London fog" flavored tea and I was so close to going off in the middle of aisle 6. I mean what does London fog even taste like?? British people and pollution??
Lol, a London Fog is a steamed Earl Grey tea latte with vanilla and lavender!

whole rant about how exhausting 'food management' is and it goes like this: drive, push cart, buy, load, drive, unload, put away, cook, eat, pick up & put away, wash dishes, put away, plan & repeat. :-/
I go hungry (by choice) all the time because the thought of it gives me anxiety. I'd rather starve.
Was This Anyone Else’s Fav Show?!!
I didn't even notice lol. It used to annoy me when characters are in the same outfits all the time.
This is was one of my favorite shows!! I always loved the fact that they changed outfits and used different gadgets each episode!
Same here! I would just LOVE to get a DVD/Blu-Ray of this show!
Load More Replies...Because nowadays you can't recognize a character unless their wearing their assigned outfits
Not necessarily true. There are some shows with great character design and painstaking animation. But American kid shows at least, do have characters who never change outfits and all seem fairly similar so I get what you mean. Fun fact though, did you know that one thing that can signify good character design is if you can recognize them by just their silhouette?
Load More Replies...I know right! Looking back they are still pretty good stories!
Load More Replies...with the amount of shopping those girls did, it only makes sense that their outfits change
Dude I watched this when I was younger but like what year was it made cause I was born in 2007
The fact that having more than one outfit in a cartoon is still unicorns 🤯
There is no denying that the community is huge, and who would have thought that a college assignment could grow so big and have such an impact on Matt’s life? He said that it actually changed his life. “Mainly, I no longer felt alone in feeling stuck between two rigidly defined generations. In fact, I realized I was never alone, but it wasn't until this community gathered that I had this realization. I now have a community of like-minded individuals I can lean on during the good and the bad times that are inherent to being a 20-something.”
The creation of the group resulted in Matt finding really good friends that he met through the Born Zillennial community. “I foresee staying close with several teammates for the rest of my life!”
Another really positive change that the creation of the group brought was that it “also helped him realize his passion for connecting people and building community,” which encouraged him to apply to and secure his current job at Meta.

It is actually really amazing what Matt accomplished and that it all started with just an idea for an assignment for a class in college. So many people finally feel that they found people who really understand them, their jokes and what they are going through or went through.

Anyone Else Have A Designated Room For Their Computer Back In The Day?
There was this really weird super tiny room in my house in the 90's. It was off one of the bedrooms, about the size of a walk-in closet, but it had big windows on both exterior walls and no clothes rods so obviously not a closet. Mom built a desk that left just enough room for you to get in and sit at the chair and that was our computer room.
Load More Replies...Because of the phone lines. The cool people had 2 phone lines. One for the phone and one for the dial-up. So classy. My mom made me pay for my own phone line.
It's just an office. I've never not had an office with a computer since about '84. My current office has 2 computers, 2 laptops, a photo printer, and a fax/copier. Pretty standard if one has to do business from home. My mom has always had an office since as has my dad. My dad and I shared an office when I was a kid but then I got my own computer so I had my own office. In retrospect, I've owned a lot of computers I guess.

I still have a landline phone in my bathroom. I bought my grandma's house after she died.
Where I live we all still have landlines, the same area code & prefix so only have to give out 4 digits and if we want to speak to folks on mobile we drive onto a mound of grass called “Cellular Hill,” which is also a communal meeting spot and a great place to have a sunset picnic overlooking the ocean.
