35 Home Decor Projects That Have No Business Looking This Good (New Pics)
Your home is your sanctuary—the place you spend so much of your time, where you recharge, relax, and can always retreat when the outside world gets too loud. That’s why it matters that it actually feels good to be there. Because if your space looks bleak or unfinished, it’s hard to feel uplifted when you’re surrounded by it every day.
Of course, giving a home a real transformation takes work, and with endless styles and options out there, it can be tough to even know where to start. Luckily, the Home Decorating subreddit is packed with people showing off their renovations and makeovers—so you can steal a little inspiration and also just admire the results. Check out their projects below and give your favorites some love in the comments.

This Little Rainbow Arch Makes Me So Happy
Maybe it depends where you live, country-based trends. I've read that due to the lower costs of heating smaller rooms and more working from home that open plan, while still popular, is not the prevailing trend. Think I read something in Homes and Garden... see if I can find it.

I don’t know why but I can see the surfaces of Jupiter and some of its moons on some of the tiles
It’s common to live in a space that doesn’t quite feel right. Even though our home is where we spend most of our time, many people don’t actually enjoy how it looks.
One survey of 2,000 households found that one in three respondents dislike their own interior décor. Unsurprisingly, feeling unhappy with your surroundings can affect your overall mood and sense of comfort.
Another poll on the same topic reflected this as well. Around one in eight people said their home made them feel stressed rather than relaxed. One in seven described their space as “chaotic,” and nearly a third believed their home still needed more work to make better use of the space available.
Nursery Makeover Before And After
OMG! When my daughter was still a baby, that IKEA chair was so comfortable when I was reading to her while she was on my lap at bedtime. More than once my partner found us both fast asleep, although I still maintain that I was just resting my eyes.
I like the wallpaper but not that bright yellow, tone it down some people.
Final Library Reveal!
I could see sitting in one of those fine old leather chairs, swirling my snifter of Mountain Dew.
Who cares if it's necessary ? Every proper library requires one, so yes!
Load More Replies...Those chairs look really uncomfortable to me. And for a "library", I'm missing more books. But it's not my room, so if they're happy *shrugs*
Wall color is meh, paint the ceiling and trim white already people. Everything the same color is ugly and boring.
“Our homes reflect our personalities, so it’s important to make the most of what you have, even if space is at a premium,” said a spokesperson for David Village Lighting, which commissioned the second poll.
“Small improvements and adjustments to elements like lighting, furniture and even arrangement can completely transform a space, and many homeowners may not realize what these tweaks can achieve.”
Before And After: Kitty Room!
That's a pretty room for your kitty. However much she appreciates your efforts, the house i s still hers.
I'd love to make a kitty room, but they've already claimed my entire house! 😂
I achieved my ultimate litter box scheme in my current house - they're in the basement sitting underneath an exhaust fan.
Maybe get a high walled litter box? That can cut down on the dance party they sometimes seem like they have when using the litter box.
Load More Replies...It reminds me of the toilet in my childhood home (except for the ceiling obviously) It was a narrow space like this with the toilet at the end because the house was built at a time when indoor toilets weren't a thing: that room was later created by "pushing" the walls of the bedroom and the living-room on either side. Claustrophobic guests really didn't like it.
Front Porch Before And After
Really? Just a lick of paint, a couple of plants and a sunnier day for the photo. (And/or a different filter, given how much greener the grass looks).

I love that they kept the wooden panels on the walls, and combined with the furniture it gives a very 70s look
What could be wrong here? There is cat furniture and the couch and the rug will disappear any dog hair. Love the pop of yellow and the red lamp.
I think you need to look up where this is - it's in the title. You've got it backwards. Also, you have no taste. 🙄
Load More Replies...It’s hard to disagree with that. Still, in today’s world, where inspiration is coming at you from every corner of the internet and social media, actually figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming. On top of that, finding the time and energy to redecorate in an already busy life can be just as challenging.
That’s where small, low-pressure steps can help. Lindsay, the creator behind the blog My Creative Days, suggests starting with simple window shopping when inspiration feels low. The idea is to browse without committing to anything right away. This can help you notice what naturally draws your attention before making decisions.
Just Got My Own Place After Being Homeless For 3 Years
It must feel wonderful to have your own space after a lot of hardship, hope you are happy there.
Psa: If You're Considering Painting Old 70s Paneling, Just Do It
I cannot understand why anyone would voluntarily choose dark grey walls, to me that looks so incredibly ugly and depressing. But it sounds like OP is very happy about it, so good for them!
Not a fan of dark walls either - but I like it wayyyy better than the ugly 70s brown.
Load More Replies...I wish I could... my apartment is entirely ugly wood paneling except for part of my kitchen and the bathroom.
I Renovated My Old Pigsty
Looking at the reddit post for this one makes much more sense, they include a pic of the whole structure showing the real size. Lots of walls came out inside the structure for this to work.
It's just one photo showing a small portion of the actual pigsty - if you look at it on reddit, they have more pictures.
Load More Replies...You don’t even have to leave the house to do it. You can stay in your favorite pajamas, make a cup of tea, and scroll through Pinterest or home décor accounts on social media. Or, as it happens, browse collections shared by people posting their own projects on the Home Decorating subreddit.
If something does stand out, Lindsay suggests allowing yourself to act on it. That could be a blanket, a throw pillow, a vase, or a rug. It doesn’t need to be a big purchase or cost much money. Even one item that genuinely excites you can change the feel of a room and make the decorating process more enjoyable.
Before And After Office Remodel
Yup, I’m totally tripping over that and launching my coffee over my laptop (and probably breaking a hip, with my luck)
Load More Replies...I do like layered rugs. I did this in my living room. I put a small wine colored sheepskin over an oriental.
Gave Our Small Bathroom A Budget Makeover - Thoughts? (After/Before Pics)
Why would you get ride of the shower though? You could have kept the new aesthetic but also kept the function.
Op "There used to be a tub in there but we never used it. Floor drain is still there, it just blends in with the now painted floor. We kept it so we could water/rinse plants and what not."
Load More Replies...Not fond of either to be honest, but would have the dark version if I had to pick.
But why the dark ceiling? A bit lighter would have been perfect imho.
Wanted A Dark And Moody Office
Budget-friendly ideas are another area where creativity really shines. There’s plenty of inspiration showing how small changes can still have a strong visual impact. House & Garden, for example, suggests using curtains instead of cabinet doors in kitchens, pantries, or utility rooms. It’s a simple way to add softness and charm to spaces that are usually more practical than decorative.

How Do You Feel About Doors That Open Up An Entire Wall?
We have customers that have them... they look good but 'aren't very warm' is the most common comment.
Do they know they can close them? We have such windows, nearly floor-to-ceiling (but not quite) and it isn't cold. Of course, we have triple-glassed windows so that's a factor, too.
Load More Replies...My first thought! Also, what happens when its windy and rainy at the same time? Having to scramble to close those quickly seems awful!
Load More Replies...In hot climates this can make a lot of sense although lots of bugs and wildlife become an inside problem as well.
Wall art can also make a noticeable difference. According to House & Garden, posters and prints can be a charming and eye-catching addition to almost any room. With so many options available, from vintage designs to modern graphics, large statement pieces or small clustered prints, it’s easy to find something that suits your taste.
Curtain In The Middle Of The Room Splitting It In Two
Meant to do that in my bedroom - it's L-shaped as it was one room and an extension over the garage. Would look lovely I think.
Do it! It can be quite easy if you use tension rods at first just to make sure you like it
Load More Replies...Really nice looking - especially if it's a studio and you're trying to define the spaces.
Just Bought My First Home!
Your next step is to choose which hardware store you'll be listing as a dependent on your taxes.
That looks really lovely, complete with deck, gardens and an incredible view.
I Did It
Hard earned homeowner lesson - if you have 'water' around the base of your toilet, the wax seal underneath is broken. Caulking around it like that just traps the water, helping it erode your floor. To the positive, I finally solved the mystery of the weird smell.
We’ve been working on fixing a leak in our main bath. Had linoleum type floor that looked like wool and it had a dark spot around the toilet and my fiancé complained about pee smell forever before the dark spot showed. Wax ring replaced twice, new hoses, floor pulled up (we live in a “slab house” so under the flooring there should’ve just been concrete. ) and until then we couldn’t figure out why the flooring was bubbling up (I assumed just because of how saturated the flooring got) until we pulled up floors. Someone thought putting plywood under the flooring in the bathroom was brilliant. It was unnecessary and the cause of the bubbles flooring. So currently we can’t use main bathroom except for showers because the toilet still leaks and smells. Hopefully next week we are pulling out the vanity and sink to get the plywood left under it, then replacing toilet and putting down real ceramic flooring! I cannot WAIT! This bathroom was so ugly when we first moved in and I’ve done a lot
Load More Replies...When choosing feels difficult, Lindsay adds there’s no harm in asking someone else for input. “This can be your husband, your mom, your sister, a friend or a neighbor. It doesn’t matter who. If you are really in a funk or just can’t seem to put your finger on what you want to do, ask someone else,” she says.
“Ask someone who has been in your home. Ask someone who likes to decorate. Bouncing ideas off someone else and getting their input can help narrow down your decisions and get you headed in the right direction,” Lindsay advises.
Custom Laundry Room Cabinets I Built
Really? Reminds me of the very worst of 70s/80s bathrooms
Load More Replies...I'm curious. What would one store in all those cabinets? I can't imagine needing or using that much space for...stuff.
Large families (multigenerational households) with lots of kids would need that much space in their laundry room. Especially if the kids (and/or the adults) are enrolled in sports.

This Gucci Heron-Print Wallpaper May Be My Favorite Wallpaper Ever
Reddit user "Gucci can call these “herons” all they want, but these are mf’n Sandhill Cranes 😤"
Load More Replies...Beautiful - whatever bird they are. 😊 But that stuff costs $300 per panel. Doing the whole room would be $$$$.
I love this thread but you are right. Any of us can have rooms like these if we can and are willing to spend $$$$.
Load More Replies...Right? They seem quite easy to do with a stencil, and it would be much cheaper.
Load More Replies...Another option is to experiment with something outside your usual comfort zone. That could mean trying wallpaper for the first time, painting a piece in a bold color, or adding faux plants if caring for real ones feels like too much. These kinds of changes can refresh a space without requiring a permanent commitment.
“Don’t always think about what you have had or what you have always done. Think outside of the box. Step out of your comfort zone and see what new ideas are triggered,” says Lindsay.
Moody Office - Before & After
Not a fan myself of too much brown or too much grey, but isn't the one on the right dark green? Can't tell if it's just my screen misleading me!
Load More Replies...The original one was fine as it was, the update is really rather dark.
If the light was on in the right hand picture and had the same perspective as the left one probably could get a better perspective of both pictures.
Moody Blues. Seattle, Wa Bathroom Remodel
I'm not a fan of huge bathrooms; I think it's a waste of space that might be better used elsewhere however, do you.
There's a handle on the glass, so maybe it moves? Hard to tell.
Load More Replies...I don't understand the whole bathtub in the shower trend. I also don't understand the partial glass partition people are putting in their showers instead of an actual door.
One false move and you drenched anything on that counter.

Now I like this one. It is not to sparse and not to clutter. Just the right of spacing of everything.
At the end of the day, decorating doesn’t have to be perfect. One of its biggest advantages is that nothing has to be permanent. You can try something out, live with it for a few days, and change it if it doesn’t feel right. Tastes and styles naturally evolve over time, so enjoying the process and staying flexible is often what makes a home feel truly personal.

Load More Replies...I love the 2 tone cabinets - I've always wanted more color in my kitchen.
The gap between the hob tops and the microwave is a serious safety issue.
That's how the majority of kitchens in the US are built. It's not unsafe - there's an exhaust fan under the microwave. Every place I've ever lived has it like that. Unless you plan to set the stove top on fire it's fine.

Tasteful, might move the sofa on the right a bit so there is some space between them.
I don't actually despise them, but they make me nervous
Load More Replies...Too many pillows for me. Otherwise everything else is fine.
Before & After: Powder Room Update
It would have been better if they had just swapped out the sink with the new cabinet
Primary Bath Before & After
If you don't have neighbours who are in the sight path, why wouldn't you want natural light?
Load More Replies...The decor is an improvement, but I think the bath was better by the window. I forget what they call those very thick glass blocks in the far window in the first picture
I believe they're called glass blocks. I used about 20 on the diagonal to build a pyramid in my backyard. Out by the cinder block stonehenge. (yes, really)
Load More Replies...Good grief somebody went crazy with the floor & walls. Stop putting tubs/showers in front of windows.
PSA even if you have frosted glass, people can still see what’s going on behind it. My brother had to have a very embarrassing conversation with the students living opposite about sharing showers….
Depends on the glass, there are several levels of obscure glass, level 4 or 5 and you can only hazily see through if it's touching the glass

I think the room looks better without the rug. Or get a different rug. But this is just me.
It’s Over The Top, But It Makes Me So Happy
I like the seat cushion the the tub but I am concerned how well it will dry out. It is going to hold a lot of water.
Dining Room Update!
Apologies, but to me it looks like where dinner parties go to die. Taste is very individual thing!
True about taste. I think it looks fabulous, intimate, and cozy all at the same time.
Load More Replies...I like it except for the painting. Needs more (and better) art on the walls.
I don't like the dark color. It is too dark for me. But I do like that it is front of either a large window or a glass door. It gives it more light in there.which I like.
I would have kept the wainscoting as natural wood, or painted it white.
After/ Before Onsweet Renovation. I Was Going For Classy/Girly And Hopefully Unique Look
I hate full wall mirrors. I like the smaller mirror and wallpaper. Although I would keep the mirror squared with the top in line with the shower line.

I wish when people do a before and after picture, they would do both pictures at the same angle and distance so you can get a better perspective of both pictures.
And label which one is the before. Sometimes it's not obvious.
