A person who grew up on a farm will know how to milk a cow and a person who grew up in a city will be aware of when traffic gets heavier to avoid it. These skills and knowledge are acquired by experience or are taught, but even if you need them, you don’t necessarily have them.

Not all of us has English as our first language. And sometimes rules and exceptions can get a bit mixed up. I always ignore spelling mistakes,and even wrongly used words, as long as I get the meaning.
If you are ESL, it should go without saying that you deserve leeway in spelling or grammar. But honestly, most of the time I see this is from people who grew up with one language - English - and still don't know how to use it.

This one drives me crazy. How can you look at "loose" and see "lose"? It makes no sense.
Think it makes a lot of sense, particularly for native speakers. Native speakers tend to learn the spoken form before the written form, so associate a word and its spelling with its sound. In terms of pronunciation, the only difference is "loose" ends with a /s/ and "lose" ends with a /z/. All other sounds are identical. And when 's' crops up in the written form of the word, it's the same: 'se'. So you have to know that in this case, the double 'oo' or single 'o' of the vowel does not change the sound of the vowel itself, but instead changes the consonant that immediately follows it. Also, do we have many other examples of this? We have goose but not gose. And we have close (adjective) and close (verb), which follow the same pronunciation rules, but not the spelling. "It makes no sense" - think in this case it's the spelling that makes no sense.

I want the world to stop saying should OF, because it's should've (a contraction of should have).
And "begging the question" doesn't mean "raising the question" !!! "Begging the question" is assuming in advance the very issue to be proven. Example : "Have you stopped cheating on your wife?" The assumption is that you do cheat on your wife, and the only issue in doubt is whether you have ceased doing so.
And how people on the internet use possessives for plurals. It annoys me to no end, but is also so common.
also there, their, and they're, your and you're, correct use of plurals (e.g. it's parents, not parent's), whose and who's, ...
when typing, a lot of the time my phone will auto correct parents to parent's, and I just don't notice yk

My most recent pet peeve is the misuse of "enormity" to mean something huge. An enormity is a very great evil.

Idk if this is considered basic knowledge but it's really good to know:
If your car gets stuck in snow, take out the floor mats and stick them under your tires as best you can, in the direction you are wanting to go (so the tires can drive on them). This helps give you some traction. You can reuse this technique as far as needed, just parking, getting out, and moving the floor mats back to right in front/behind your tires.
It irks me when I watch TV shows where the characters get stuck and can't get out of the snow, when they clearly have floor mats in their car. It has come to my attention over the past couple years that a lot of people don't know this, so now I try and bring it up every time it remotely comes up in a convo.
Also, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle. Jumper cables, a flashlight and batteries (keep them stored separately because corrosion), food/water, gloves, winter boots if applicable where you are, etc. Also, look up the underwater car episode of Mythbusters, just good to know :)
EDIT: as u/ruetheblue says below, if the snow is covering the tailpipe TURN THE CAR OFF. (Carbon monoxide)
Better yet, if you live on a heavy Snow prone área, buy tire chains. ( Oh..... And be sure to know what are your car's drive wheels lol, i laugh my a*s off because some One got the chains in the rear wheels of a VW Golf. Which is a front wheel drive car )

Wish they had something like this for brake lights. I had a nice lady park beside my in the parking lot to tell me that both my brake lights weren't working. Sadly in North Carolina it is a suggestion. Getting on a crowded interstate? Go full speed and get ahead of everyone. Approaching a roundabout with cars entering and exiting? Speed up so you can get there just as someone else is entering or don't bother to stop at all.
