A business that has a physical place where people can come in is within their rights to establish their own rules that don’t contradict federal laws because it’s their property. For example, they can ban certain people from entering if they suspect they are a shoplifter or a troublemaker, but not because of their race or gender.
Apparently, getting banned from places is a real thing that happens not only in movies and people had some interesting stories to share when Reddit user PsycheAsHell asked “People Who've Been Banned From Somewhere for Life, What Happened?”

My college roommate got permabanned from Target for putting Wet Floor signs next to the 50 Shades of Grey display.
In college, at the local college book store, I attempted to sell some books back to the store. After hearing what the buyback value was, a guy behind me said he'd pay $20 more for my books (he was taking the same course the next semester sand the store's mark up would by 100%). The bookstore owner warned me if I sold to this other dude, I'd be banned for life. I told him money makes the world go round and took my extra twenty.
This benefits both of the parties (buyer and seller) ; the only thing the seller has done 'wrong' is to deprive the vile little s**t of a corporate rapist (bookseller) out of a bit of extra profit - good for you, more students should set up their own book swaps / sales and kick the bastards off campuses.
I'm banned from a cafe in a town in North Wales; neither of which I'd been to prior to this experience. I walked in and the guy behind the counter said "You! I've told you before! You're banned!" I said, confusedly "I've never been here before", but he just pointed at the door, so I turned around and left. Almost 30 years ago.
My uncle got us banned from a mom and pops diner in the 90's. The unintended but totally foreseeable consequence of doing their "eat a 72oz steak in under an hour" six goddamn times in two weeks. I know for a fact he does not regret it.

I had tried numerous times to receive therapy to treat PTSD I gained while working the job and thanks to the HR taking their vacation was not able to get it and the administrative assistant warden told me, quite literally, "officers don't need therapy and if they do then they aren't cut out to be officers" and refused to help me find help.
When they learned (somehow) that I had sought therapy on my own, they attempted to place me on "indefinite administrative leave" citing "officer has conducted themselves in a manner unfitting their position"
So yeah. I sued them and quit and they banned me for life... from their prison.

Planet fitness I tried to cancel my contract (this was the 10$ plan which said I could cancel anytime) with them and they said I had to pay 150$ to cancel for god knows that reason. I called my bank to tell them to not let them withdraw from my account since they had my checking account information. My bank said they have multiple situations happen with planet fitness about their Unusual financial practices. 2 months later I got a letter from planet fitness saying I’m banned from ever signing up with them again. Planet fitness is a POS corporation.
Yeah this doesn’t seem like a loss to me lol. Gyms are kind of a ripoff tbh, my goal is just to stay fit and I’ve always worked out from home, in my living room or back yard FOR FREE with free YouTube videos/programs and never had an issue. Spent $50 on a few weights to help. Even grew abs. If you’re a body builder this wouldn’t work, but honestly, if you are an average human with 10 square feet of room and you’re also allowed to go outdoors, don’t waste your money on a gym. Would rather save my $200 a month and just do free squats and lift free small weights in my free living room, in 2022 gyms are such a money-grabbing scam for most ordinary people when you guys could get the same physical education for free, don’t be a sucker!

You're told to go online which offers no help either. Yeah, and you have to cancel in person, there is no way to do it online or over the phone, even if you call the location you frequent.

They shut down their gym where I live, but apparently the gym that replaced them, Crunch Fit is just as bad.
Their business model is based on being priced so low that people won't bother to cancel will they stop coming since they might go back.
I go jogging with a 10 dollar a month music subscription. Exercise is everywhere. But media with no advertisements is something special.
They did the exact same thing to my husband and I. I like you, refused to pay the fee. They didn't have to ban us, we decided not to ever go to their establishment again.

The jobsworth of a guard came up and told me to leave since I was and I quote "just picking stuff up and putting them back again" like no s**t sherlock thats how browsing in a physical store works. Not sure I believe this. I've browsed in John Lewis many times over many, many years. They honestly never mind people doing this. I did get someone else chucked out once for taking their clothes off in the clothing section to try things on because they couldn't be bothered to go to the changing room.
I was banned for life from attending Late Night with David Letterman because I cancelled my reservation. I guess it was hard to find people for the audience in freaking New York City? The intern (I assume) who I talked to was very serious: “You should know if you cancel you will never be allowed back. Ever!”

Banned from commenting on a self proclaimed movie star's Facebook account. He's basically a movie critic these days and only made a single super bad movie but according to him, he's a big shot. In one such post where he was bragging, I replied with a photo of him in which I photoshopped his face on a street vendor selling bananas. Got banned in probably an hour.

I was banned from a grocery store for shop lifting when I was a kid. I ended up working there like a year or 2 later.
Not me, but an ex. He walked into a Best Buy to look at Fitbits. He picked one up, concealed it and walked into the restroom to steal it. What he didn't know was that a Best Buy employee was in the restroom and heard him opening the package. He walked out of the stall, Fitbit on his wrist and came fact to face with the employee. They charged him and he spent a night in jail. He was most assuredly banned after that.
Got fired and banned from Lowe’s for not working hard enough. Honestly, if I was gonna lose my job for something, it was climbing the shelves, making myself a little cubicle in the shelves I could sleep in…and stealing hundreds worth of cold brew coffee.

I got my mom banned for life from a local grocery store because apparently when i was 3 or 4 I wanted a toothbrush really bad and when she said no I put the toothbrush in her purse when she wasn't looking and then she got caught on the way out and banned from the store.

I got banned from the local library for "being there too often." The crazy logic was no kid would actually read that many books so I clearly was using the library for some other purpose. When I went to check out the latest round, the librarian cut up my library card and made a massive deal of having me removed from the building. I was 14. When I moved back to town in my late 20s I tried to get a library card and found out I WAS STILL BANNED!!!! They had me down as "conducting illicit activities on property" in the system. Luckily the librarian at Central got it overturned in under a month. Still nuts.
Was banned from every sainsburys for life. Got arrested for nicking a couple things. Police officer taking my prints at the station was telling me that the ban is unenforceable and not to take any notice of it. So nothing really happened except I've grown as a person and no longer do bad things

I literally said " three short taps followed by three long taps, and then three short taps again. Bit of a long story, but I'll try to keep it short. About 20 years ago (before I was disabled) I went out for a friends 21st birthday. Now bear in mind that for 3months prior to this I hadn't touched alcohol, weed, caffeine, tobacco or any other drugs. So at about 9am (when the pub opened) about 10 of us are squashed in a booth for 4, the pub was otherwise empty. I had a coffee (first vice broken) whilst the rest of my mates had pints. I thought "One pint won't hurt" so I got a pint, it slipped down like butter, as did the next one & the next etc. A short while later a couple of old ladies sat opposite us (in an otherwise empty pub) and constantly complained about our noise. The manager was apologetic & sympathised but they kept complaining. So I got up to go to the toilet & in my tipsy state I said to one of the old ladies "You look proper sexy in that red jacket". She (quite rightfully) kicked off & said "I've got 3 sons your age & if they behaved like that I'd spank their backsides"
Continued - Well I exposed my backside and said "Go on, spank me". Well at least that's what I thought I did. What I'd actually done is drop my trousers & underwear down to my ankles, giving my friends an eyeful & exposing a lot more than intended to the poor old lady. Obviously barred for life. Later that night in the cool pub, I clotheslined the birthday boy over a table & they didn't say a thing. Remember I hadn't touched Caffeine, tobacco, alcohol or drugs in 3 months? By the end of that night, I started with coffee & was drunk, stoned, and on MDMA. My mate still thinks it was his best night ever. Me, well I'm a little ashamed but can't deny it was a good night. I deserved to be barred for life though.

Back in the 90's I was banned from a local bookstore/deli. An acquaintance had dared me to steal the "no smoking" sign from the restroom. The moment it came off the wall an alarm started blaring... It was attached to the wall with some kind of magnetic alarm and the kid who dared me knew all about it. The police were called and I was banned for life. I honestly didn't care too much... Everything was way overpriced so I pretty much only loitered there anyway.
If we're talking about reddit subs, I got banned from r/nostupidquestions for answering a question. It was a hot topic question that was asked in ignorance of the situation and instead of flaming the guy like everyone else was doing I sat down and talked to the guy. He came to understand the situation and thanked me for actually answering calmly instead of overreacting, I received a ban a few hours later for answering the question.
I got banned from Emory's Psychiatry department because I had to cancel my new patient appointment, due to a migraine. Now I can never see an Emory Psychiatrist, because I missed that one appointment.
I got banned from Mumsnet because someone screamed the N word at me (ie posted the word in full, in all caps) for defending Meghan Markle after another poster said she used to be a prostitute (Mumsnet banned the poster who used the N word but didn't ban all the posters who were laughing and egging them on), then months later someone posted that there had been zero racism towards Meghan in the UK and I replied saying "someone literally wrote the N word out in full in a Meghan thread and loads of posters thought it was really funny." Apparently Mumsnet has a policy where you're not allowed to refer to any post once it's been deleted
I was banned from a band fan facebook page for posting my art, not selling, just posting. Everyone posted their art and crafts there mind you, but some d**k first decided they were just photos, they were not and I shared in process saves to prove it. He then decided that mine would violate copyright rules because I worked from photos... They featured no actual photos, just drawings of photos. Other people were putting the bands actual logo on things and trying to sell them. The d**k was buddies with the admin so there you have it. It was stupid and I shouldn't have cared, but I haven't had the courage to post more than sketches since. Moral of the story, its hard for artists to get the courage to share their work, please be kind and don't make accusations unless you have proof.
I do that, too, make artwork from photo references, and people have warned me to be careful or I could get a copyright claims. I see the harm in it. It's not like artists don't copy and refer to other people's actual art with no problem.

I apperently got banned from a pub in Richmond, North Yorkshire, for allegedly banging someone's head onto a table. I supposedly grabbed their collar, joked about bashing their head onto the table, pushed their head down, but then pulled it up. However, the collar of their shirt ripped off and his head smacked down hard on the table. He was dazed and confused over and I was a bit too drunk whilest also taking some pretty groovy painkillers due to slipped disc in my back. Neither of us remembered the event, though he did have a real nasty black and blue forehead. I was also advised by my troop OC _not_ to go into that pub ever again...
I've been banned from Breitbart for telling their readers the truth, instead of the lies and conspiracies they sell. That was 5 years ago when the lying orange traitor was still running for office. Not a big loss, just one more right-wing hate filled propaganda site America doesn't need.
My friend's dad is banned for life from flying with Ryanair, because their plane crashed at the end of the runway and he had the audacity to claim compensation for his injuries, and lost holiday.
My cousin got the whole family banned for life from the zoo. About 1990-2000. He was always up to no good and I followed. He ran off while the adults were ordering lunch and of course I went with. We ended up over by the flamingo's exhibit. Back then they only had a wooden post fence so he slipped between the posts by himself (I was lookout) and went into the exhibit. He ended up ripping a feather out of a flamingo's ass. He thought it was hilarious. Security did not agree. He'd already been in trouble once that day for trying to get into the lion exhibit so that was the final straw. We got our pics taken and family called to the front to be escorted out. I've been back since though. Without the jerk cousin.
I am banned from ever renting a car from Hertz. I had rented one a few years ago and a giant tree fell on it where I had parked it. Thankfully I wasn't in it at the time because it crushed the driver's side. I didn't have comprehensive coverage at the time and refused to pay because it was an act of nature. Hertz sued me for the entire cost of the car $11K plus $850 in towing fees plus interest. I got a lawyer and settled for only a small fraction of that and had the towing and interest waved. Anyway, they informed me in a letter that I was forbidden from renting anymore of their vehicles. Oh well.
My dad and uncle were banned from the London Science Museum for switching around the heads on the displays. Dad now has a machine he worked on in that museum.

My daycare got banned from a local kiddie pool one day. Not sure why that was. I was too busy playing with my friends. I remember seeing a scorpion? crayfish? in the pool and freaking out because I almost stepped on it. The boys took it to the field it probably came from. Just before we headed back the life guard was shouting at us to never come back. The staff was not happy. When I asked why as we were walking back they just told me "You know why." To this day I'm still fuzzy on the reasons but I'm hoping it was not because of being scared of an insect.

I got banned from a blood clinic. I was 15ish and had been really sick with strep. It wouldn't go away. And when it did it would come back. On one occasion while getting a blood test for the 1000th time, I was particularly ill with a high fever and dizziness. I was tired and cranky. I also have a phobia of needles so I was freaked out. The lady who was going to give me the blood test told me "just do it, I dont have time for you!" In a very mean rude way. It wasnt warrented at all. I got mad called her a b***h and got banned. Im glad because the other blood clinic was very nice and understanding.

I got permanently banned from Instagram, but I didn't even realize it for years. (Apparently someone had taken the account in this years and done something bannable. I still don't know what they posted.)

It's interesting how a Texas Governor can load some people onto a bus and dump them in Washington DC in opposition to immigration policies or a Oklahoma Governor can sign an abortion law that doesn't make sense and is unconstitutional or that a Supreme Court Justice has partisan ideologies supported by his right wing wife, or a "President" who supports insurrection and fraud anywhere he can find it and kisses up to Dictators. I was banned from a band fan facebook page for posting my art, not selling, just posting. Everyone posted their art and crafts there mind you, but some d**k first decided they were just photos, they were not and I shared in process saves to prove it. He then decided that mine would violate copyright rules because I worked from photos... They featured no actual photos, just drawings of photos. Other people were putting the bands actual logo on things and trying to sell them. The d**k was buddies with the admin so there you have it. It was stupid and I shouldn't have cared, but I haven't had the courage to post more than sketches since. Moral of the story, its hard for artists to get the courage to share their work, please be kind and don't make accusations unless you have proof.
I do that, too, make artwork from photo references, and people have warned me to be careful or I could get a copyright claims. I see the harm in it. It's not like artists don't copy and refer to other people's actual art with no problem.

I supposedly grabbed their collar, joked about bashing their head onto the table, pushed their head down, but then pulled it up. However, the collar of their shirt ripped off and his head smacked down hard on the table. He was dazed and confused over and I was a bit too drunk whilest also taking some pretty groovy painkillers due to slipped disc in my back. Neither of us remembered the event, though he did have a real nasty black and blue forehead. I was also advised by my troop OC _not_ to go into that pub ever again...
I've been banned from Breitbart for telling their readers the truth, instead of the lies and conspiracies they sell. That was 5 years ago when the lying orange traitor was still running for office. Not a big loss, just one more right-wing hate filled propaganda site America doesn't need.
My friend's dad is banned for life from flying with Ryanair, because their plane crashed at the end of the runway and he had the audacity to claim compensation for his injuries, and lost holiday.
My cousin got the whole family banned for life from the zoo. About 1990-2000. He was always up to no good and I followed. He ran off while the adults were ordering lunch and of course I went with. We ended up over by the flamingo's exhibit. Back then they only had a wooden post fence so he slipped between the posts by himself (I was lookout) and went into the exhibit. He ended up ripping a feather out of a flamingo's ass. He thought it was hilarious. Security did not agree. He'd already been in trouble once that day for trying to get into the lion exhibit so that was the final straw. We got our pics taken and family called to the front to be escorted out. I've been back since though. Without the jerk cousin.
I am banned from ever renting a car from Hertz. I had rented one a few years ago and a giant tree fell on it where I had parked it. Thankfully I wasn't in it at the time because it crushed the driver's side. I didn't have comprehensive coverage at the time and refused to pay because it was an act of nature. Hertz sued me for the entire cost of the car $11K plus $850 in towing fees plus interest. I got a lawyer and settled for only a small fraction of that and had the towing and interest waved. Anyway, they informed me in a letter that I was forbidden from renting anymore of their vehicles. Oh well.
My dad and uncle were banned from the London Science Museum for switching around the heads on the displays. Dad now has a machine he worked on in that museum.
My girl scout troop was banned from souplantation, and well, y’all can probably figure out how it turned out in the long run
My daycare got banned from a local kiddie pool one day. Not sure why that was. I was too busy playing with my friends. I remember seeing a scorpion? crayfish? in the pool and freaking out because I almost stepped on it. The boys took it to the field it probably came from. Just before we headed back the life guard was shouting at us to never come back. The staff was not happy. When I asked why as we were walking back they just told me "You know why." To this day I'm still fuzzy on the reasons but I'm hoping it was not because of being scared of an insect.

I got banned from a blood clinic. I was 15ish and had been really sick with strep. It wouldn't go away. And when it did it would come back. On one occasion while getting a blood test for the 1000th time, I was particularly ill with a high fever and dizziness. I was tired and cranky. I also have a phobia of needles so I was freaked out. The lady who was going to give me the blood test told me "just do it, I dont have time for you!" In a very mean rude way. It wasnt warrented at all. I got mad called her a b***h and got banned. Im glad because the other blood clinic was very nice and understanding.
I have banned from a facebook page of atheism for pointing to an user (which possibly the admin) that a verse in quran that put the word 'fire' on a context which refers to lava is plain logical. So apparently stupid atheis is also exist.. Not only stupid theis
I got permanently banned from Instagram, but I didn't even realize it for years. (Apparently someone had taken the account in this years and done something bannable. I still don't know what they posted.)
And by the way, if someone says someone took over their account, don't dismiss it out of hand. Someone did it to me, so I know it happens.

It's interesting how a Texas Governor can load some people onto a bus and dump them in Washington DC in opposition to immigration policies or a Oklahoma Governor can sign an abortion law that doesn't make sense and is unconstitutional or that a Supreme Court Justice has partisan ideologies supported by his right wing wife, or a "President" who supports insurrection and fraud anywhere he can find it and kisses up to Dictators. All of this discussion censored by on line groups. Board Panda is supposed to be a haven for oddball stories. Unless there is blatant hate speech, it should stay out of the censorship business. Why should I support their business with my own humor? And they lost the advertiser click income coming from me spending all that time looking at their stuff.
