Sometimes it seems like a simpler life would be more fulfilling and healthy because modern life can be depressing. Almost everyone today exchanges their time for money. Due to pressure from their employment, many are becoming depressed. Higher rates of depression, obesity from poor eating, and a sedentary lifestyle have all been linked to modern life. The pursuit of everlasting wealth is an obsession in modern society today. People don't have time for their families, friends, or to feel genuine affection for one another.

Taravat Niki is a freelance Iranian cartoonist who makes it very clear that her work explores and revolves around various issues that are dominant in our modern society, reminding us of important things that we tend to ignore when it comes to our everyday life.

I understand what the artist is saying, but I have to disagree on the whole of "Video games don't let you imagine" there's so many videos, articles on theory craft on the worlds these games exist in, thoughts on social structures, ecology and such, so to say it doesn't prompt thought or provoke ones imagination seems...wrong

As an avid reader but not having a mind's eye, video games and movies hold a place in my heart as I get to see the story. It is extra annoying when movies of books change the plot though (if it's significant - pacing/style changes to match the strengths/limitations of the movie medium are ok) as I was looking forward to finally seeing the characters and environments.

What is this supposed to be about? These two things are not mutually exclusive.

Exactly! My daughter loves books *and* video games, as do I. And she has a fantastic imagination, like most 5yo!

You chose Mario, of course there's not much to imagine there. What about Shadowfight 2, Day R, Cats are liquid, Lapse and many Indie or text-based games that allow the player to imagine much more than what they are offered?

Nowadays is difficult, but every child must have one or two beloved books

"Phone bad Book good" is such a stupid sh1t. Not only can one have BOTH, a new medium holds value too. Not too long ago children didn't have books either and somehow grew up fine. What now? TV was said to be bad, but now we know it helps the imagination too. Durns out, that bibliophilia is cool and all, but once you think you're superior because of its you're just a douche.

This is boomer b******t. My kids play all kind of made-up stories in video games, not only games like Minecraft. Video games are just another toy.

And they'll never win with people like Karen demonizing their sacrifice and work.

One guy sees her for her mind, and one guy sees her for her outward appearance like her hair. One values intelligence, the other beauty. The mind lasts longer than physical beauty, so the girl is playing the game to decide which guy to pick, and the guy who sees her for her mind is the better choice in my opinion.

Grandpa doesn’t look too happy about his wheels. But I think it’s great the son is taking care of the dad now. And it’s hard for people to accept help or acknowledge limitations they are facing due to aging. So I understand his face.

Could someone tell me more about what’s going on? She was selling flowers to kids to make money. But she can’t go into… school? religious place of worship? I think it’s school and due to poverty she has to work rather than have the chance to learn.

Don't really get it, is it another "smartphones are bad" one? I'd love to see you calling for help in the ocean with a book.
