HEY! That's us Canadians that like maple syrup. A lot of the time Americans seem to have the fake corn-syrup stuff.

Bacon and maple syrup is mostly Canadian. We Canadians take that very seriously ;D

Us Americans love our damn cheese, and I'm not talking real cheese. I'm talking melted nacho or sliced "American" cheese. We put it on everything...and I do mean everything.

I wish I wasn't eating my meal with maple syrup right now so I could argue with this.

Its wierd 'cause we don't eat those together here. Toast is a breakfast food, and beans are usually eaten for lunch or supper (dinner) as a side dish, in soup, a casserole, or on a cook out (BBQ).

Ugh. Our food is soooo sweet. Breads, ketchups, salad dressings, spaghetti sauce. We have refined sugars in so many processed foods!!!

Yep, Honeyed Peppered Bacon is a thing here. I guess you cannot argue with taste, but personally for me meat cannot be sweet, and when it is difficult to find not sweet meat...

Actually I'm an American and I hate Maple Syrup so don't get it twisted and I don't like bacon either. and I love beans on toast I thought I was the only one.

I think you're talking about Canada. Most people here have never even had real maple syrup, most eat flavored corn syrup like Ms butterworth or Log Cabin.

Um I believe the Dutch eat sprinkles on toast for breakfast. That's pretty hardcore sweet to me. Pretty sure most of the US, the sweetest thing we put on toast is jam/jelly. Or if you are Latino like part of me is, cinnamon and sugar.

I don't know anyone who puts syrup deliberately on bacon. And WE aren't the ones who have a little tea with our milk and call it tea...

Things we don't normally do, by definition, are weird. If we did them as often as you it wouldn't be weird to us. There is your answer.

That would be the Canadians. The Americans that like maple syrup aren't quite as insistent on having it with everything... or viewing it as the second coming. The rest of us had poor childhoods and are attuned taste wise to Aunt Jemimah and Log Cabin. Syrup is still mostly reserved for pancakes or french toast unless you've decided to do something that foodies will love or hate you for.

Ah, the romance with maple syrup is a long and passionate one here in Canada. Maple syrup on bacon, on bangers, on pancakes (with a thin spreading of peanut butter)...sigh, eh!?

Hey! Not all of us Americans are like that.

Bacon + (real!) maple syrup is gooooooood. And I say that being Dutch. I make my Dutch pancakes (bit like French crepes), and put bacon in it, and then put just a small amount of maple syrup on it. DELICIOUS. The problem with what I've seen in America, is that they just use too much of everything. Make everything (way) too sweet, too salty, etc. I always thought that was just prejudice until I experienced it myself.

I agree. Maple bacon, maple syrup IN sausages, pancakes or waffles with meat in them then covered in maple syrup. No I'm not taking about Canadians, but definitely Americans. Really? These are disgusting and way too sweet

Have you ever even TASTED maple bacon?? If you know what you're doing and put a DECENT AMOUNT it tastes amazing! Unless Americans literally use it as a marinade, I don't know (I'm Canadian and we usually only put a small amount)

Ah man they really do. I followed an American recipe for sweet tea and it was dripping like it was SYRUP and they meant it to be drunk like that. Even after duting with 75% water it was too sweet x|

And fried foods in general. They deepfry everything from vegetables to cake snacks

Oh yeah...so much sugar and it's so unhealthy. I'm with you on that one.

You take that back! Our state fairs are sacred. I don't get in board with fried butter or beverages- but deep fried Oreos are fanatastic with ice cream.

Fair food is *supposed* to be unusual, nimrod. That's the point. It isn't as though anyone eats funnel cakes or deep fried Snickers on a regular basis.

Then again, a Scottish chippy came up with the novel idea of deep fried Mars bars - but outside that single chippy, it's never caught on.

I thought the Scots deep fried everything? :)
