Tiva Is A Recently Retired Racing Greyhound Who Ran 151 Races & Hit 36mph, Ranked Grade A - She Reached The Podium 66 Times. Just Adopted Saturday, She Is Now Our Grade A Professional Lounger
A widowed woman on my street adopted a greyhound called Dave. She told me that Dave is the best thing that ever happened to her.
Yep. The "30 MPH couch potato" as one of my friends who rehabs and fosters greyhounds would say.
They are known as 45 mph couch potatoes tbf 🙄
Load More Replies...What a lucky owner ☺️. As well. Just keep your eyes open when she's on the lead, if there are squirrels or rabbits in your area. Greyhounds have truly astonishing acceleration, and if you are not paying attention, you will bite the dust.
Thank God that greyhound racing is illegal in Florida. Took them long enough, but it's done!
Greyhounds are pretty handsome to me, thanks for giving her a nice home!
with all that running she def deserves to lounge as much as she damn well pleases
Pity she only got it because she finally found a kind family and had to spend years earning greedy jerks racing winnings with no retirement plan before that.
Load More Replies...Question: does she have digestive issues?? My friend adopts ex-racing greyhounds and has had a heck of a time with trying to keep their tummies healthy and less…..odiferous
Do they eat kibble - cold-pressed or expeller-pressed -, OR fresh (frozen) meat? + a small amount of vegetables? And how about probiotics?
Load More Replies...My Girlfriend till I ADOPTED HER & She Became My WIFE .. And She Could Not and Be NOT,, Without a Greyhound and we had Three of them. Till King came inside that day,,, he told us something was really wrong. He kept putting his head under Debi's {my wife} hand and flipping it to his neck. Then he would Leap Forward. Her hand would slide to his butt area. And King would stick his Tail Up & Out. So her hand was stop by that area. After the third or fourth time Debi Rubbed that area. We thought his Hips were Hurting. We had some aspirins type for dogs. But that was Not it at all. Debi went to stand up, She Let OUT A SCREAM AND BANG ON THE FLOOR SHE WENT AND KING LET OUT A HOWL SO LOUD AND HE WENT DOWN ON THE FLOOR ALSO !!!!!! Neither One of my Loved Ones Ever Got There Bodies Up OFF the FLOOR EVER BY ,, THEMSELVES That DAY of April 13, 2010 "KING" Past Away That Day ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "DEBI" Went To The Hospital That Day,,,, Debi
I adopted one a few years ago. She's gone now, but she was so full of personality. I had to take her out once a day and let her get her zoomies out, then the rest of the time she was a couch loaf. These animals need to be loved and pampered. If I could have dogs now, I'd do it again.
He ran his races and paid his dues..Now your beautiful puppers gets to lounge at the finish line..,,sweet
I have a rescued Italian Greyhound. I got him as a 12 week old puppy. He literally saved my life 6 times now with no official training at all. I’ve had several dogs in my day and he is the most precious, loving and awesome dog that I’ve ever had the honor to have by my side. I treat him like the King that he is and we have a beautiful life together…. God Bless you abs your new Greyhound. She deserves all the live and rest that you can provide!!!
Greyhounds have a sad lonely life. She will get the love she deserves now.
I heard from a greyhound rescuer that they are some of the gentles dogs ever. They certainly are beautiful!
Greyhounds are amazing dogs, I know this from experience. They are forever grateful for their homes. When you adopt them from a track, you are giving them their very first home. Look up how they are treated when they are racers and you'll understand. GH make great apt dogs believe or not. I can't say enough good things about these dogs. My GH,"Biggie Talls” ,gave me so much joy. I miss him everyday.
A life of comfort and leisure is what Tiva will have now. The world is a tiny bit more just and kind thanks to the adopters.
Don't be fooled, they still need exercise even if they go full couch potato indoors.
True. A nice walk and the chance to run once in a while, in a safe enclosed area.

I am so glad for all of the greyhounds that have been rescued from racing. It never should have been the case, in the first place. Them racing. The way the dog 🐕 is lounging, is the way it should always be. It is so cruel they make these dogs do this. Good luck to all of you that have been rescued. And enjoy your new life from racing. 🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾
Greyhounds are the best (but not the brightest). I loved my big wonderful couch potato, Murphy.
My sister has 3 greyhounds in Scotland they are loving perfect dogs.
Greyhounds don't need as much outside walkies time as most people think. They're big Cuddle bugs..lol
She looks like she is reflecting on her past life....and being so very grateful it's over. God bless you for your adoption. May you both have a very happy life together!
Greyhounds are a loving pet, this poor darling needs a rest first!
I've heard they're actually couch potatoes who don't have an eagerness to run the way breeds like retrievers and sheep dogs do.
Our retired greyhound was perfect. She loved my 4 kids from the time they were babies. She lived 17 years and that wasn't nearly long enough.
Grey's have 2 settings - on or off. In retirement it's defaulted to off 😂. They really are lazy ❤️
They usually haven't experienced love and freedom so when they do, it's a forever kind of love. 1small piece of advice though... NEVER let them off leash unless they are in an area that has a tall fence!! They really love to run for no other reason than freedom.
I've often thought about having a retired greyhound as a pet. Tina sounds like a wonderful pet.
I hear they're great for seniors because because they enjoy resting now.
Dave needs much TLC, and he's in the PERFECT HANDS!!!! NO MORE RACES FOR HIM!!!? His heart has had ENOUGH!!!! ❤️
When I was hospitalized after being diagnosed with a rare disease, the volunteers came around with the therapy dogs. 2 miniature greyhounds. Best day ever. I hadn't seen my cat in 2 months. I loved that moment so much. Greyhounds are very sweet dogs.
My parents adopted a 30 MPH couch potato, Grover. They said the only thing he ever won was our home!
God bless you for caring for her, and I wish karma for the people who exploited her and abused her as a racing dog. Give her a big hug from me!
We had a whippet, back in the 80s, great dogs n companions GOD bless........
Awww, my family used to have a retired racing greyhound too. Miss you gerry xxx
That’s wonderful. Many racing greyhounds were in dire straits after dog racing was ended in Florida. Yeah, Florida, they actually did something right for a change.
And she deserves every second of bumdem. I feel guilty for finding excuses to sleep in.
I adopted a retired racing greyhound named Ace. He was the sweetest dog, just melted at anyone's feet who gave him loves.
My friend adopted a brindle greyhound. Molly was a race dog. She had broken a toe, which the owners amputated so she could run a race. (Grrrr) She lost, so they were taking her to the desert to shoot her when my friend intervened and brought her home. Such a sweet dog. And Molly thought she was a lap dog! Lol... Wish I had pictures!
Glad she is in retirement. Looks like she is sooo ready for nothing but RNR.
Greyhound racing should be outlawed. Unfortunately it is popular in so many countries.
How come such dog ended up in a kennel? Did her owner get rid of her once she stopped running races??? 🤬🤦🏼♀️😱
They don't end up in kennels. They have to be adopted-out by special organizations. Usually, they just get put down once they can't run as fast anymore.
Load More Replies...I've adopted two with special needs....I will never be without a beautiful greyhound in my life again! Not sure how I survived so long without one! 35mph couch potatoes!
I need about a dozen of them trained to hunt down the urban coyotes here in Phoenix.
My Wife And I Adopted A Former Feral Who “Chose People” Instead Of Going Back To Her Cat Gang. Meet Trish The People-Liker!
To find out how to deal with increased anxiety levels and whether our beloved pets could be the best antidote for our troubles, we reached out to Shari Botwin, LCSW. She is a trauma specialist, therapist, speaker, and author of Thriving After Trauma: Stories of Living and Healing.
Needless to say, it’s important to follow the news and show our support to people in need. However, "Staying connected to the media hours a day and seeing images of violence, despair and loss can change the course of somebody’s day, week, or even life," Botwin told Bored Panda.
It seems that human beings are hardwired to feel some amount of empathy and sorrow for others going through adversities. We may not be physically present, but we still feel our hearts race and our emotions going on high alert. "People report that when they are attached to social media, they experience many more feelings of depression, anxiety, and some even develop PTSD just from seeing images of trauma," the therapist explained.

My Cat Trunks Loves Car Rides Ever Since The Ride Home From Adoption!
Hearing devastating news can lead to feeling unrest and worry, which is completely justified. Yet, we need to detect these feelings before things get out of hand. Botwin said that if you notice your eating habits changing, or that you’re struggling to sleep or want to sleep all the time — "that’s an indication that your stress levels are going through the roof."
She told us that when we’re feeling anxious, tension levels might also increase in our relationships. "For instance, some people report that when they’re really stressed out, they end up taking it out on the people that they love the most." While emotions might be heightened, it’s important to remember that our loved ones are there to support and help us deal with traumatic events, so snapping at them could damage your connection to them.
"It is so easy to get caught up in the news of the world. Being mindful and aware of how much time you spend on social media is very important," she suggested. "Even when there are horrible things happening around us, ultimately, it is still most important that we take good care of ourselves."

Luckily, our adorable four-legged friends are always there to help us. According to research by the American Psychological Association, pet owners had greater self-esteem and were more physically fit, more extroverted, and less lonely and fearful than non-owners. "Pets benefit the lives of their owners, both psychologically and physically, by serving as an important source of social support," the researchers wrote.

We Adopted Willy Today
Shari Botwin agrees with this line of thinking. "Through the years, I have met so many clients that have adopted cats and dogs, and then have told me it’s changed the course of their lives moving forward. When people struggle with things like depression, anxiety, and PTSD, they use their pets as a source of comfort and hope," she told Bored Panda.
"In my life earlier, when I was in recovery from extensive childhood abuse, I adopted a dog. On many occasions, I had a choice to act on feelings of self-destruction or look at my dog and say she is the thing that needs me, and this is why I will continue to take good care of myself. Some people will tell their animals: 'You are the reason I am still alive!'".

So if you are "feeling unsafe or that your world is unraveling in front of you, be sure to find ways to create safety." Botwin advised you to stay connected to the people you love the most: "Call someone. FaceTime someone. Find a place in your home that makes you feel comfortable and spend time there when you feel anxious."
"Grab a hold of your pet and think about all the love you feel between you and your animal family member," she suggested. After all, there’s nothing like looking at our four-legged friends to feel those positive emotions coming into our daily lives. And if you don’t have a furry companion by your side, looking at this list might inspire you to become a pet owner yourself.

I started to have night asthma attacks and found out I was allergic to cats and dogs shortly after welcoming the fourth cat of my life into the family. It didn't even cross my mind to get rid of her. I'm going through immunotherapy and am using an inhaler but I cannot imagine my life without cats and pets. unnamed-62...7cfdb1.jpg
Almost the same here. Sneezing, asthma, but a lot of cat's love and joy. ♡

The cats remind me of my bois. Urianger and Alphinaud were 1-2 years old when we adopted them, they are now 3-4. I was the first person Alphinaud reacted positively towards and my husband looked at Urianger, urianger meowed at him. The shelter introduced them and both boys were indifferent to each other and only interested in human attention. Now they sleep against eachother all day when they aren't demanding attention. We were gonna adopt 2 girls but the lady fetching them for us was dumb and insisted we only see one at a time, and it wasn't until the next day the shelter tried putting the girls together and they immediately tried to destroy eachother, and we had to come back and find new friends. Alphinaud is the first cat I have ever known to hop up and get in my face for cheek kisses. He will head bonk me till I start overly dramatic kissing his cheek and he will merely and start purring so loud. It's like he had never been loved before >.<

The one thing I've noticed about all adopted or rescued pets, is that they sleep so hard once they feel safe. It is heart warming knowing that you have provided a loving home and have been accepted by the pet. I remember the first time I heard my adopted senior dog snore. I smiled from ear to ear.
