Why do some new pet parents say that they planned to adopt one kitten, but ended up with two? It turns out that the reason why so many animal shelters push taking home a pair of kittens and even incentivize it with adoption deals is because two kittens really are better than one—for the kittens themselves, your home, and everyone in it.
According to cat welfare educator Hannah Shaw, who specializes in kitten care and is known for her popular Youtube channel Kitten Lady, kittens that grow up with playmates are better-behaved. First of all, having two makes them less likely to get bored and turn to destructive behavior to entertain themselves, and also importantly, they learn not to play too roughly by testing boundaries with another kitten, rather than your hands.
You may think this only applies if you would be bringing your new kitten into an empty house, but even if you already have one cat, your older cat will thank you for getting two kittens who can keep each other company.

I did the same for a very ill cat that my dad found outside in the snow, she was blind, deaf and I don't remember what more. She lasted only 3 years with us, but I swear to god she was the happiest cat I ever brought in my life till now. I will never forget how caring and grateful she was.

I rescued 2 11 week young kittens I was going for 1 but she asked if I would rescue both HECK YEAH I don’t believe they’re genetic brothers they are the same age I believe but they are so so opposite in looks activities eating everything but it was the best decision I ever made she said when I walked in they may not come out right away they are very shy the second I walked in the room they both came running at me purring and she hadn’t even heard that yet and a year and a half later Oops sorry it’s two years since February we are all living happily ever after the joy of my life my little snuggle bunnies even though they’re kittens now cats but your baby is super beautiful precious and that smile is amazing I can tell you have a big heart as I feel I do because cats especially can read that energy Bless you for adopting that cat and I hope you have a beautiful life together I’m sure you will ❣️

Awwww, my ex and me adopted a very scared senior once. Also had had 4 previous homes the shelter knew of, he tried to scratch us at the shelter, but something told us we wanted him. When we came home we prepared ourselves for at least a week under the bed. But he walked out of his carrier, walked around the appartement and settled himself on the couch. When we tried to pet him we were coutious, but he started purring instantly. He was home <3

Gorgeous! Time for puppy kindergarten. Training in a class is always best for expert instruction and meeting other owners. Each level in its own ring on the floor, with the instructor and his/her own dog in the middle. The Q & A sessions are particularly informative. I went through one years ago with my family's dog. Imagine---wall-to-wall GSDs! Check with your local or nearby breed club.

Be sure to socialize him while he is a puppy 🐾💙🐾Take him EVERYWHERE YOU GO! If he misses this crucial time as a puppy he will forever be afraid of the world. Puppy classes,of course after he has had his vaccines. Take him around all your friends, children of all ages. Cats other dogs. Dog parks. Doing all this will give him his BEST LIFE! I wish I had a picture of my boyfriend (40 years ago!) fast asleep taking a nap with my 16 yr. old Siamese on his chest. He didn't think he was a cat person--had never had one, but had grown up with 2 German Shepherds. He's still around (not the cat, hah!), and he has forever after been a strictly and rabid "cat person"! We were together 10 years, and I never felt a bad thing about the ex, because of this.

You might be surprised how many breeders cull or dump purebred puppies that have minor 'flaws' - they can't sell them for as much money so they don't want the expense of caring for them. I got my German Shepherd and pugs this way - one was too 'big' and the others had the wrong markings or some nonsense. Just another explanation?

Never-ending source of amazement and sadness to me that some animals end up in shelters for so long. I have a sweet, sweet anxious boy who was in kennels for 5 years. He's a total nightmare to walk as he hates most other dogs and wants to chase every car he sees but he's the most affectionate and adorable little boy. Fortunately he loves the little dog that came to join us a couple of years ago.

Had two dogs that fell out after several years of happy playing with the occasional punch up. Then they couldn't be together again - had to split our house with dog gates and a lot of care to accommodate them because no way were we parting with either one! Sad when it happens.

Thank you for adopting a senior cat. My rescue pup had to be put down on January 6, 2020. Rescued him in March 2004, the rescue thought he was 5 years old at the time. He, his name was Ty, would have been 21 years old this year. He was a Chihuahua mix. On January 23rd, I adopted another Chihuahua mix, he is 11 years old and is so full of life! Acts like a little puppy! My new little boy is named Riley.

"liking"... there's jobs and other practical considerations; I won't have the time to let such a dog wear themselves out -- but then I wouldn't get one.

Working herding dogs need discipline and knowledge that you are the leader of the pack. Obedience classes in person are a must! And best with all GSDs and an experienced instructor who knows how to work with them and teach you the same. My Dad and I went to classes given by the Northern New Jersey GSD Club during the 1970s with our dog Enoch. Our instructor taught the class in a big ring with hersellf and her dog at the center. We walked around in a circle and learned leash handling and the commands necessary in a beginner class. With a sharp eye, if we made a mistake, she showed us the correct way, demonstrating with her own dog. Sometimes it was the position of the collar, leash tension or voicing commands. Classes of all levels went on in the same big hall. Wall-to-wall GSDs. The Q & A sessions when all classes met together after the formal training were very informative and entertaining. Sometimes they showed a film of a dog doing unusual tricks.

I totally agree. Not to me mean or anything, but all the small dogs I encounter are yippy and they growl. On the other hand, big dogs are just doofuses and love cuddles.

Good luck with her! She looks cute ... lets you take her hands ... is a good sign. Cats are pretty simple regarding a few things: Allow her to love you and never ever lie to her (in cat language ... you can, but shouldn't...), and you'll both be fine. Cats get when someone cares for them, and their reply to love is ... love. And they might puke in their bed they allow you to use, too.

Lately, many celebrities (recently there was a story about this regarding Miranda Lambert specifically), or other rich people will donate a large sum of money and the shelters will use the donation as a promotional event to get animals out of the doors and into good homes. The promotion is a waved adoption fee to all those who qualify as suitable forever homes.

Please keep an eye on their claws. Sometimes when polydactyl cats have thumbs like that there is a claw close to the split between the thumb and the rest of the paw and it can curl back into the paw and cause a lot of pain and possibly infection. Saw it a few times when I worked at a shelter. Not many do, but it's worth checking.

We rescued a cat last year, very cute longhaired tortoiseshell. My dad was showing pics to his colleagues and they were discussing what breed she could be, and he jokes "Oh, it's a koferman" Them: "Oh, must be very exotic, never heard of it before. Where did it come from?" Him: ".....guys, it literally came from a garbage can" (kofa=garbage can in our language).

As someone who has rescued many cats and works with local charities to chip check, trap, rescue, re-home and reunite cats, I really cannot stress the importance of looking in shelters and rescues for a fur baby. It is so important the shelters have frequently empty cages to give these kitties a temporary safe place until a foster home can be found. It's so heartwarming to see many more people going to rescues and charities instead of feeding the awful breeding industry. One of the cats who chose me was left breeding until she was 8 years old and has had upwards of twenty litters in her life and each kitten was sold for £60. It's so sad.
