It's a basketball game and that's what opposing fans do. Wouldn't want to treat her any different than if she was a boy. She was a 5 year varsity starter and was fine with the noise from the fans. Said it made her want to win harder.

MargyB, those boys are just showing school spirit! They're probably jealous that she's in the game while they're in the crowd. But, they also do this to every male player on the other team. It's done to male and female players every time every game!

No, they're not. Look at Hockey matches, behind the visiting teams and you'll see the exact same senario. Also, look at her closely; she looks like they're not there at all. And look at her biceps. Had they made dagradating comments at her, she would probably made them regret it.

I think they cheer her instead

The article is informative but doesn't make any of this better. A teenager is okay having to be "tough" because "she can take it." The parents support the heckling because basically "boys will be boys." What kind of philosophy is that?

Don't get triggered by a single photo. Read what the girl says about it. She gives an entirely different take on the events.

they are heckling her trying to get her to lose her focus. they'd do the same exact thing if she were male. that's kind of what's been happening in sports since like forever. they are treating her just like anyone else. it's called the "home team advantage" for a reason. you're immediate perception of this photo just perpetuates the problem.
