Whether or not to vaccinate your children has continued to be a hot button argument across discussion platforms. Famous make-up and tattoo artist Kat Von D got in hot water recently for posting on Instagram that her unborn baby would not be vaccinated.

While substantial research shows vaccines are safe and vital in disease prevention, refusal of childhood vaccines at the doctor is on the rise. It could be argued that having these famous allies has emboldened anti-vaxxer groups, whatever the reason never shy away from sharing their opinions online. When science isn't on your side it can make these arguments tricky, but as you’ll see in these examples that doesn't stop them from trying. Some people tried to embellish their medical background, while others could benefit from a class in logic.

Bored Panda shares some of the best anti-vaxxer fails below, to show you better have your proof together before coming to the internet. (Facebook cover image: MangoStar Studio l Cover image: Andriano Cz)

My #1 dispute against anti-vaxxers is this- the government needs tax payers to grow old and work for as long as possible to continue to fill government pockets. Why would they deliberately and knowingly make people sick/kill people?? The government would go broke. Their argument is redundant

Actually, most stuff that can be injected into you, like vaccines, would be totally safe to ingest. Worst case stomach acid or bowel fluid would degrade it or you'd get diarrhea. I dare you to try it with vaccinations. You won't get immunity, but nothing worse would happen.

At my old job, there were 5 women with 12 children under 10. When it would break out in the schools/day care, we called it Human Parvo. No one died, but they would get together and compare "how to clean poop or vomit" out of damn near everywhere!

I wonder if antivaxers ever opened their eyes and see how people who can't afford them suffers without vaccination? or those who are too sick or too young/old to be vaccinated to live their lives in fear that even a simple cold could kill them? do they believe in vaccinating their pets too? or do they just willingly watch their pets die if they ever gets sick as well?

When people say "playing God" it makes me wonder: If God never makes mistakes and does everything with the knowledge of what the outcome will be then why did he create a human being that was smart enough to invent a vaccine to help us...it may sound childish to some, but thats always been my thought process when people say something like that.

Some diseases are more powerful than our immune systems. Some people have less powerful immune systems. And like all other animals, our immune systems have been there since the beginning of time. If our immune systems were enough, there would never have been diseases to begin with. And if "self-healing" were enough, I have to presume anti-vaxxers don't seek treatment for broken limbs. Because with "self-healing", who needs to set a broken bone?

And if someone were to accidentally give you small pox, hmm? Could your immune system fight it off and not kill you, or the rest of your unvaccinated family? And if by chance you don’t die, you’ll be horribly scarred the rest of your life, and people will forever be asking you what happened... your reply? I got small pox, their reply?... you mean you didn’t get vaccinated? Are you f*****g crazy??!!?

Yep, there are at least a dozen cases a year in the US - mostly in the southwestern states. Prairie Dogs are one of the leading carriers. It's also worth noting that Yersina pestis (the causative agent of plague) is a bacteria not a virus like a number of diseases are. There was a vaccine for the plague, but it wasn't terribly effective so it was discontinued. These days simple antibiotics are pretty effective.

And actually we have plenty of vaccines for certain bacteria - pertussis (whooping cough )- bacterium . Haemophilus influenza B - bacterium ; tetanus-bacterium . Neiserria meningitidis - bacterium. Diptheria - bacterium . Pneumococcal pneumonia vaccines - against different bacterial antigens of streptococcal pneumonia bacteria. Typhoid travel vaccine - for a bacterium ... the list goes on and on. The Op didn’t mention that Vaccines are only viral so I’m not sure why everyone is attacking her with “ vaccines are for viruses . No . Many aren’t ( pediatrician here ). Many are for bacterial illness .

First I got measles when I was almost 3, then I got TB from drinking milk - 15-20 others had the same milk (on a farm) as I did, but no-one else had just had measles and they weren't affected. It's thought that if my resistance wasn't so very low from the measles, neither was I. A friend also had to have his eyes removed because of measles spots on them - that's how dangerous measles is.

And you really need to do your homework on autism. Also, that is being discovered to run in families. So take that and expose yourself to the truth, rather than a bunch of fake vac facts!

Unfortunately, I strongly suspect that they actually believe what they said. Somehow, it has to be the vaccination's fault, because otherwise it would be a senseless tragedy. They are clinging to anything they can, and probably passionately telling dozens of their friends how vaccines killed their daughter. But that's how these stories get started... thing A happened and then thing B and they MUST BE RELATED. And *that's* scary.

Is Dr. Sears another TV doctor? If Dr. Oz was investigating vaccines it's probably because he was looking for a product he could sell on his show. I admit I haven't looked in to his career all that much, but watching his show makes me cringe with some of the things he suggests.

How many other self professed fake names anti sciencers are helping spread lies and confusion by claiming expertise for. I benefit except ego stroking. Having lived in a county where a Whooping Cough outbreak occurred because an Anti-vaxer mom didn't want her kid to be autistic, I have to say..GET THE DAMN VACCINATION!. I had friends that were put in quarantine and couldn't go home to their toddlers or babies because they were exposed to whooping cough. Vaccines are 50% about protecting yourself and 50% about protecting the people around you who are unable to be vaccinated..like newborns and the elderly!

I agree. I have twins with autism and another son who doesn't. I have never assumed vaccines are what caused their autism and if I had it to do over I would still get them vaccinated. Now, as it so happens I have become a person with a compromised immune system and worry all the time about going out and being exposed to some uneducated oaf who may be carrying something awful. Some things just seem like common sense!

I went there to get ab-hepatitis (as I travel a lot) and she was like "when was your last tetanus" and I was like "9 years ago" and she was like "okay, let me put one of those too" :D :D (We take one every ten years here in Finland, it's free.) A point beng the other kid was vaccinated, had pertussis (the phenomenon of asymptomatic carriers is being unravelled - but there is a proven association btwn those getting pertussis shots and infants especially, getting infected with those who are vaccinated.)

    Chris von Csefalvay
    Community Member
7 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Now, as to pertussis shots. The great thing about acellular vaccines like pertussis and acellular diphtheria is that they can be given to children with immune system disorders or even with no immune systems to speak of (e.g. SCID). The trade-off is that you can get symptomatic disease if your vaccine failed (the pertussis vaccine has a very low failure rate, basically zero if the proper dosage and boosters etc. are given) or if you're not vaccinated. In that sense toxoid vaccines do not generate herd immunity but there's also less need for herd immunity since they do not carry risks for the immunosuppressed.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and I got the disease at the age of 4 when my immune system couldn't cope with a really really bad flu. It basically ate everything that was inside of my pancreas. I did happen to also get a vaccine against that particular flu which happened to kill a bunch of people that year. I had an anti-vaxx guy in a Diabetes group literally harass me when the topic of "How did you get your diabetes" came up because he insisted that my diabetes is due to the vaccines. No sir. If I didn't get those vaccines I would've probably died. I'm lucky I got away with an autoimmune disease. I had to block the guy.

Here's a bit of useless knowledge; Before "diabetes" was coined the medical personnel of the past knew of a disease that the sufferer had sweet smelling urine. They determined someone had this condition by putting the patient's urine in a pan and watched to see if ant's were attacked.

I was once hit by a can of green beans that attacked me from the top shelf of a super market. I thought that meant my kids and I would be immune. Alas, poor little Bobby was later attacked by a can of chicken noodle and didn't make it while suzie was scarred permanently by some beefaroni. Please don't make the assumption that just because one can won't kill you that all others are safe, too!

Most do not die from it, unless there are complications, which in the scheme of things are rare. When I was young, I was vaccinated, but I still got Whooping Cough, Mumps, Measles, and German Measles, not nearly as bad as some of my family and friends, but those childhood illnesses were more common then, (1950's) Not so common now, I wonder why?? Oh yes, vaccines.

I don't actually believe anti-vaxxers believe that vaccines cause autism. It is just so stupid and outrageous thing to think about that I just don't think people are really serious that they are anti-vaxxers.

I don't get the logic of those people. They won't get the vaccines because BIG PHARMA is trying to poison them, but when they catch the preventable disease, they go to a doctor and take their medicine. If you're gonna be dumb, at least be 100% dumb...

I'm sick of it because I'm autistic, and while it's true I'm high functioning and not that severe, it's just insulting that people honestly think that risking autism is worse than risking dying a horrible death by completely preventable diseases. Shows just how highly they think of autistic people.

Ok but here's the thing, even IF vaccines DID cause autism, how could you be so cruel and evil that you decide that having an autistic child is so awful that you'd rather put them at risking of killing other people or dying a slow, agonizing death as neurotypical people.

Oh my. They probably didn't catch it and die from it because all the sane people who are vaccinated massively reduced everyone's odds of catching it. How can these people not see that, if we all gave up vaccines, these diseases would re-establish over time?!

CArolyn Mysse - Medical Intuitive living in Iowa and working with Harvard School of Alternative Medicine. Doc calls up, says he has a woman who gave Carolyn permission to look at her psychic history for illness ( there are about 200 symptoms shared by many diseases - about 80 are fatal. If you take EVERY TEST possible - you have less than 60% accuracy in diagnosis - Carolyn is almost 90% accurate in a couple minutes) Carolyn goes quiet about 30 seconds and then asks - "Did she tell you about her two abortions?" The woman goes into hysterics in the background, doc says he'll get back to her. In Minnesota a friend told us we would need 3 parties to buy a house and end up not needing a bank. That is exactly what happened about 2, almost 3 months later... There are things out there you can't put in a box or measure with a machine. Hope the first writer is one. Maybe, maybe not?

Strictly speaking, Washington had his troops variolated - innoculated with a less deadly form of the smallpox virus, variola major. Soon after Washington's innoculation process Edward Jenner worked out that inoculation with the much more harmless vaccinia virus (commonly known at the time as copox) gave cross-protection with smallpox, and instituted the practice of vaccination. Washington's innoculation, whilst completely successful, was more potentially more dangerous, but it certainly helped to establish the principle of protection by innoculation. And finally - antivaccination is a totally borked notion...

I wish someone would explain herd immunity to her, but doubt that she could grasp that her little bovines are healthy because others are getting immunized. I'd write "ignorant cow," but that would be an insult to cows everywhere.

Herd immunity was THEORIZED by MDs in the 1940s - PRIOR to vaccines for measles. They noted that when outbreaks had about 40% or so of the children infected (and in those days with permanent immunity - not vaccine b******t "maybe" protection of 2-8 yrs) When that level was reached, outbreaks decreased until only about 10-12% of the youth were infected, at which point the outbreaks increased until the higher numbers were reached. Since vaccines can NEVER give immunity, they can't even do the protection of the 40s, lol. NOW the vax industry is calling for not 40-percent for herd protection, but it went to 60%, 70% 90% and then 95% and now some are calling for 99% and 100%. Bull. China has 99% compliance in a province with 300,000,000 people. 707 outbreaks. Not herd immunity. S Korea tried with chicken pox - now at 97% infant, 95% society compliance. Their chicken pox rate is 5X greater than when they started in 2005. You have been lied to about herd immunity. Can't with shots.

Right. Your neighbor didn't take her birth control pill so you are going to get pregnant because of that. If a kid doesn't have a disease - they don't have a disease. How can some person's NOT DOING A DAMN THING attract every damn pathogen in three counties, NOT affect the unvaccinated, and then wreak havoc and hell through the supposedly protected vaccine community? That is total b******t, faulty logic, garbage propaganda. From reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction testing- we KNOW that there are times when the virus from the vaccine - in a vaccinated person, sheds and causes outbreaks. This is documented. We've never yet found a child without measles giving measles to anyone - and if your kid is all shot up, what is your worry - or are you actually intelligent enough to be aware that in current outbreaks - MOST of the infected people are vaccinated AGAINST THE DISEASE THEY JUST GOT and the vaccine just didn't phukken WORK!

There's more to this conversation as you see the antivaxxer is replying to someone. It seems their reply was in response to someone saying mental illness is what makes these people do mass shootings. Antivaxxer says the kids are 'crazy' because of vaccines. Provax states vaccines are used globally yet only the US has a massive mass shooting problem. The gender part was a bit of a stretch since girls aren't required to get anything, but the gist was that girls and boys are vaccinated at the same rate, yet boys are the ones doing most of the shootings. So if it was because of vaccines, clearly mass shootings would happen by the hands of both genders equally.

Not enough information here. The gun "epidemic" is from people on mind altering pharmaceutical prescriptions. Every one of them so far - since the Texas Tower shooter in the 60s. While 92% of mass shootings used to take place in "gun free zones" that percentage is now 99% - because they can shoot without anyone to interfere. Don't forget - Sandy Hook had no deaths. That school district's Justice Dept statistics for crime showed rapes, robberies, murders etc for that area - and about 2 murders. NOT the claimed 20 or so. Columbine, Sandy Hook, Aurora (guy passed up about 4 theaters to find a no-gun theater) Red Lake, San Bernardino, 9/11 and more - ALL had "govt drills" in that exact same place, at that exact time, using that same scenario. So many of your mass shootings are b******t from day one. 9/11 was an inside job, and it took Cheney moving a normal Air Force exercise to a different time and location in order to insure that there was ONE SINGLE AIR FORCE JET in the entire Northeas

I think that it's the lack of discipline that is ruining children. Sure there are ways to punish children without hitting them, but I remember the ways that made me straighten up is when I was put over my dads knee to get spanked, or mouth washed out with soap when I swore. Or put i the corner when I was bad. I turned out to be a productive member of society and have respect for parents who still spank or wash out their child's mouth with soap.
