When you have flu real bad, the shadow thing is real - and it's as if your body is moving by itself and the you part of you is following just a moment behind. Perception is weird and easily messed with.

I once took the wrong bus and ended up in a town where all stores were closed and there was no one in the streets although there was still daylight. I finally met a guy and asked him if it was a holiday or something, he said no, it's past 6PM, everyone in the city has gone home and it's like that every day. It weirded me out a little bit.
