When faced with injustice, you generally have three ways how you can react. You can ignore it, keep your head down, and get on with your day without making any waves. You can try to be sneaky and make subtle 5D chess moves to outplay the situation to your own advantage. Or you can call the injustice out and shine a light on it for everyone to see, bold as brass, sometimes using humor to do it. That way, it’s harder to hide the injustice.

This list is about the times that women and men called out sexism and misogyny, as shared on the r/TrollXChromosomes subreddit. People from all walks of life, from everyday employees and parents to skilled professionals, confronted sexism on social media head-on to help everyone. Upvote the responses by these brave people that you agree with and let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Girl Scouts: Today we're going to learn how to market a product and reach out to new customers with face-to-face community action. Boy Scouts: Today we are going to shoot targets with a bow and arrow, and tie 6 kinds of knots.............So who's going to be a future leader again?

In many countries, e.g. Ukraine, scouts are just one organization. I don't see why kids are separated by gender and taught different things. I am proud of Julianne for standing up against the insult!

Yeah both in spain and belgium the scouts are unisex. As they should be. USS is behind in so many things.

It's also a disgrace to the boys, the decent ones at least - they did neither ask for being seen as superior, nor can anyone assume they'd agree, at least it isn't likely all of them do - but, step by step, beginning at a young age like this, it may corrupt a few each time into taking this, admittedly comfortable, position. Future leaders shouldn't be selected by their genitalia.

If anything, I'd say it's the other way around. Boy Scouts are a bigoted religious organization focused on brainwashing youth. Girl Scouts are in no way connected to the Boy Scouts and actually work to uplift the girls.

As soon as my son was old enough to handle things (around 12 maybe), he learned to cook (he is a great, inventive cook), do his own laundry, sew, clean, etc. He is now 44 and still does these things. His girlfriend is amazed that he can & will do all this stuff without griping about it. My dad taught him about the so called manly things, taking care of the car, changing tires, etc. but my dad also taught me those same things.

The r/TrollXChromosomes will be celebrating its 10th birthday on the last day of March. "We're currently in the middle of intensive planning for the 10th Cakeday celebrations. It'll be so much better than our 5th Cakeday shindig, folks will cry. But we can't tell you more than that, lest our plans are foiled," the moderators told Bored Panda when we reached out to them.

They’re also steadily moving toward the 1 million member mark. Currently, they’re at just over 802k, so consider joining them and giving them a boost. They post about a variety of topics. In their words, they’re a subreddit for “rage comics and other memes with a girly slant.”

However, this doesn’t change the fact that the subreddit is also home to some serious posts that show how deeply sexism is enrooted in our society. Even to this very day. And while sexism can be subtle and covert, it can also be very overt. One example of this is women getting harassed on the streets. So while it’s one thing to confront sexism online, it’s a whole other ball game when it’s done in real life.

Yup. A decade ago, single and gay, I'd tell men I was afraid of that I had a boyfriend so they'd leave me alone. I hate that that worked and hope times are changing. I also hope that other people are in safer situations, can honestly tell pursuers "no," and have that be enough.

I never thought myself as being chauvinistic or anything, I actually like women who can take care of themselves and beat men at their own games.....but when I come across stuff like this, I'm embarrassed to be male!! But I tell you what, I have woman friend that has always been a huge man-basher, as she is highly intelligent and does anything she wants, and has put several men "in their place".......but she also found an awesome man that found all of that attractive and they got married and had kids. So, there are decent men out there that don't play all those BS games, you just have to find them.

Can't say I agree with the second half --- first half obviously true. "I'll not pursue you because you have a boyfriend" is not respect, it's just another layer of misogyny along the lines of "I don't touch another's seconds/ she's impure". I think the mindset is, "give me a logical reason to reject me (and your feelings/preferences clearly are illogical)" so the BF card works the rest not.

It is. When I was in 7th grade (way back in 1992), the boys started doing the snapping bra thing. They were caught in the act, hauled off the principal's office, and my parents and I were asked if we would like to press charges. As they were being hauled off to the principal's office by our badass female gym coach, she was yelling (in front of everyone in the school) "WHAT YOU DID WAS SEXUAL ASSAULT!!!!"

I know a girl who had sleeves that had a small cutout on the shoulders. Her bra straps were still NOT VISIBLE, but a MALE TEACHER came up to her and said "I can see your bra strap." She looked at her arm, where no bra strap was visible, and said "no you cant." He then proceeds to use his finger to REACH INSIDE HER SHIRT and pull out her bra strap. "Yes I can." She didn't know what to say, so she just sat in silence, shocked. The teacher never got in trouble. THIS IS NOT OK

The idea that it's distracting for boys is just a lot of pathetic excuses. A leg can be 'distracting'. A rear in a tight skirt. This is a boundary and attitude problem. Any boy not able to just refocus their gaze and make an effort to get on with the work in hand is weak and contemptible.

Bored Panda spoke about how women should respond if they’re ever in a situation where they’re either being catcalled or openly harassed on the street with Emily May, the co-founder and the executive director of ‘Hollaback!’ The organization aims to end harassment in all of its forms.

May explained that women should always trust their instincts. “Listen to what your gut is telling you. There is no ‘right’ or ‘perfect’ response to harassment; however, studies show that having some kind of response (either in the moment or later) can reduce the trauma associated with harassment. If you decide to respond, do it for you.”

She said that it’s always all right to do nothing, smile, and keep walking. It’s always up to you to decide what’s right for you and if you want to confront your harassers. It’s always harder to do this in-person than behind the safety of your screen.

Answer that might be closer to home for the guy posting: For the same reason as racists don't post "Black Lives Don't Matter" (which is exactly the argument that the troll account "TruthMonster" posted higher up here, "Republicans don't say BLdontM, so your BLM is invalid"). For reference, Googling with double quote marks to fit exact phrasing... "i hate men" About 493,000 results (0.46 seconds)  "i hate women" About 171,000 results (0.56 seconds)   "i hate oreos" About 16,000 results (0.34 seconds)  "i hate cats" About 208,000 results (0.63 seconds)  "i hate dogs" About 112,000 results (0.45 seconds). The numbers are useless as-is (Wikipedia "Misogyny" is one of the top results for second), but at a 3:1 ratio; the poster has some ground to build their rickety argument on --- "I hate men" is stated more often. [Personally I'm most surprised by low score of "i hate hedgehogs" About 789 results (0.23 seconds); sniffling prickling little bastards.]

Comments from men, that every woman has heard, at least once in her life: you are cheap, you bitch, you whore, you are "easy to get", you are fat, you are too shallow, you may be stupid ... but a good fu.. You don't have to say, I hate women ... demonstrating it this way, is enough

Not to be that person or disagree but I distinctly remember this being said more than once in school. And it always felt like the boys were behind. Statistically they’ve fallen so far behind girls, it’s gotta be a huge problem. Boys have been getting away with doing poorly in school and being overlooked or forgiven or both. And neither is fair to the boys (or the girls).

Statistics in the UK published last year showed that the one group lagging behind all others in education were white boys from poorer households. It is a problem.

I kind of remember having figured it out when I was 12 or 13 years old. Most boys my age (including myself maybe) were just stupid, dirty sniggering brats. But I had some smart girls of my classroom as friends and they helped me grow up. Our conversations were more intellectual and mature than anything I could have shared with other boys. Besides, they were much taller and stronger than me, and I'd rather not mess with them anyway ;-)

well some men are also f*****g sick in their head, i have had guys do all sort of stuff towards me that would be considered assault, but because "we are friends, being drunk and having fun" its all good right?, these are people i dont see anymore, but the way they treated me, told me exactly how they would treat women, and probably even worse for the women. also some deranged men see women as objects rather then actual human beings. i hate that a woman has to be on her toes constantly just because men are f*****g disgusting. i have had several female friends sleep at my place while too drunk, could never imagine betraying that kinda trust, i am just happy that my female friends were trusting enough in me to see my place as a safe place, i truely wish all guys would act like that, but i guess thats just wishful thinking.

If you really want to see this in action, go to a strip club where there are horny men and horny lesbians. The men are all pigs about it and the women aren't. Sure both groups get rowdy. The both will tip the dancer and buy her drinks and the expectation is always that the dancer will owe them sex in some form. The difference is when she says no to the women, they accept it and there are no issues unlike the men who will stalk the dancer, prey upon her simply because they believe it's their privilege as men. I have seen this over and over and over again. It's sickening what men think their privilege is because they have dangly bits.

As May put it in an interview with Bored Panda, your safety is the main priority. However, if you feel safe and choose to respond to your harassers, there are three main approaches that you can take: setting boundaries, engaging bystanders, and documenting the situation. Let’s go into detail about each approach.

“Set the Boundary. Tell the person harassing you exactly what you want them to do and why. Look them in the eye and denounce their behavior with a strong, clear voice. Many people prefer to name the behavior. For example, you can say, ‘Do not [what they’re doing], that’s harassment.’ You can also simply say ‘that is not okay’ or ‘don’t speak to me like that.’ Say what feels natural to you,” May from ‘Hollaback!’ explained.

I’m 55, straight, never married and no kids. Some people assumed I was gay and that’s why I didn’t marry. Uh, no, but nothing wrong with being gay. Then it was other excuses for me. Now, when those same friends post their kid or finances complaints, I comment with, “See, you shoulda had dogs instead. It’s not illegal to put them in a crate when they annoy you. It’s not illegal to euthanize them when they get sick.” (Before you spaz out, my dogs SLEEP in their crates. They are not used for punishment. Second, I just dropped $1476.63 on cancer surgery for one of my dogs. And THAT was the discounted “member” price at Banfield Pet Hospital. Boxers are prone to mast cell tumors. Like, I never liked babies or children in my life ever, not even when I was at the same age, and I can't even sit in the same room with a baby or toddler workout getting nervous because I get mad when they start screaming. Everybody knows I can't stand children, but they keep on asking, or even trying to give me their baby to hold it (like if this would change anything for me). It's awful. Let the people have kids that want to have kids, but leave me in peace with my dogs and cats.

Hmmm, a lot of the anti-choice comments are coming from posters with men's names (I'm a man, btw). This is literally a microcosm of what is wrong in the USA - a bunch of men with no clue about science and a woman's body passing laws about womens bodies. How about this fellas, if it's not your body, you get no say, plain and simple. If technology advances to the pont where men can carry babies, you can volunteer to carry all the baies to term to your heart's content. Until then, STFU about it.

YES! I have a friend who is a foster parent and the crazy number of hurdles she and her husband have had to jump through to adopt 2 of their foster kids is ridiculous. If they want to legislate away abortion then they damn well better revamp the adoption process to make it easier for these kids they forced into the world to find loving homes.

You're referring to Matthew 5:29 where Jesus actually is preaching at the mountain sermon to both men AND women, and of course he doesn't mean to literally "tear it out and throw it away from you" if it "is making you stumble", it's meant to be interpreted symbolically. Ladies are then in, the Bible, recommended dressing “with modesty and soundness of mind.” - 1 Timothy 2:9. Just sayin'... :-)

Haha. I love seeing how people interpret things differently. Sermon on the mount, right? Love that. It's true that most of the time Jesus said "men" and meant everyone. It was customary then. Don't bash me with "Jesus is sexist" until you understand and have read everything. And gone to church and studied that. I more interpreted those verses as a warning against sin, like if your eyes defile you, then you need to confess your sins and guard your thoughts and where your eyes go better next time and ask Him for forgiveness. It was used completely out of context above though. 💛 hope this didn't offend anyone. Stay safe.

“The important thing is that you aren’t apologetic in your response, and that you don’t engage with them after you set the boundary. Oftentimes, people who harass may try to argue with you or dismiss you through further conversation or by making fun of you. As tempting as it may be to get into a verbal war with them, we don’t recommend it. The attention may further feed their abusive behavior and cause the situation to escalate. Once you’ve said your piece, keep it moving.”

The second approach is engaging bystanders by telling them what’s going on and what they can do to help you. “Not all bystanders have been trained to respond, but typically people do understand that street harassment is not okay and they want to help you, so what can you do to ask for that help? You will need to loudly announce to people around you what the harasser just said or did and identify them, like: ‘That man in the red shirt is following me. I need help!’” May explained.

Men want women not to get abortions and yet they don't want to get snipped themselves and condoms ''don't feel good''. Men want to control both their bodies and also what women do with theirs

I've heard this one before and i totally agree with it. I did have an abortion 13 years ago when i was 19 and i remember how i felt back then, like it could not go fast enough. I just wanted it OUT. Now i have two kids and i'm pregnant at the moment (and i'm happy about that). Some people dont seem to understand that its a huge difference if you want to be pregnant or not. Its not the same. If you want a child it IS a child even early on, but if you don't its just panic and a nightmare. Its just pure evil to force someone to stay pregnant and give birth against their will.

Answering a lot of 'she brought it on herself' comments here. There was a meme a long time ago, I can't find it but it went something like this: Abortion is the only treatment we justify denying based on how the person got into that situation. Climb the tree and break your leg? We'll fix it! Shoot yourself in the leg becuase you didn't secure your gun? Your doctors are here for you! Lifelong smoking caused a lung cancer? Let's treat it! Want to terminate unwanted pregnancy? You shouldn't have been a s**t!

Because they look at it like all those things are directly affecting you. An abortion affects you and another person. To be clear I am not saying I do or do not believe in abortion. I think it's a very complicated issue and every persons story is different. The one thing I personally don't believe in is when women use abortion as birth control But again all stories are different and I wouldn't judge someone.

I have kids. I was young (21), unmarried, and in a very unhappy relationship. It was my choice to keep my children. It's hard sometimes but I'd choose it again and again. But if I met someone in a similar situation and they chose not to carry to term, that is their choice and I support that just as much. Everyone is different.

Yeah these PRO Lifers say they care about children, but really all they are is Pro Birth. Once the child is born, they don't care any more. Can you imagine how overpopulated the world would be if EVERY SINGLE CHILD was born??? We would be like China and India, even WORSE really!!!

I agree with the message but I disagree that this is one of those 'things men don't understand'. Where (and when) I grew up, it was illegal. When your girlfriend told she thought she was pregnant, you both felt that same fear! It is no longer illegal in my home country, but still difficult to get help. Abortion is a subject that needs to be talked about and, regardless of your opinion, should ultimately be up to the person who's body is affected. There is no person on this planet that can give a valid logical reason why it should be illegal!

Actually that's not quite right. In medieval times a woman needed a husband to provide for her. There weren't really any 'respectable' jobs an unmarried woman who wasn't of the lowest class could do, one of the only respectable middle class professions, that earnt reasonable money, for a woman was spinning thread. So if a 'respectable' woman couldn't find a husband it was what she would do to be able to be independent. It became the term for unmarried women, because back then a 'respectable' woman didn't work after she married.

This is very incorrect. Most women worked, married or not. The difference is that most never owbed the business and worked for the family or husband. There has always been women that earned money. Not only that, in many European countries brides needed to provide a dowry and married quite late (20s and late 20s) because they worked to pay for it.

Unfortunately, this isn't actually true. Spinster referred to unmarried women who ended up working the lowest level jobs, like spinning, whereas married women in the trades had the higher status jobs. Either way, the term is sexist and patriarchal and the real meaning doubly-so: the married women only had their higher status, and therefore the better job, because they were married to a tradesman. An unmarried women never rose up in ranks and died in poverty.

In late medieval China, women who were exceptionally good at weaving were actually prohibited from marrying so as not to distract them from their trade, because the silk cloth was worth more than gold. TMYK.

That's fine but why did actress become actor? It's the masculine and feminine form of the same word. It's a lot easier to say "what's the name of the actress who was in X?" than "what's the name of the female actor that was in X?", It's just clunky, it's a pet peeve of mine.

'Actress' is a convenient way to say something that we shouldn't be regularly saying at all. Of course if you are asking for a specific name, it helps to describe them "female", but do we need to have a separate category for female actors? In sports where there are clear physical differences between the sexes, it's important to separate the two, but in arts and general professions, it's an unnecessary modifier.

The third and final approach is documenting the situation. If you feel that you’re safe and not currently in danger, you can consider taking a picture or a video of your experience. Or you can ask a bystander to do so.

“This could include the person harassing you, their license plate, or the scene. Some people use photos or videos to report an incident—for example, if the person was at work when this happened people may choose to report it to their employer.”

There are men that are complete gold diggers in the true sense of the word. I have met them before. Old adage that it is as easy to fall for a rich one as a poor one applies to men seeking out and marrying wealthy women just to have a cushy life. Meal ticket without carrying one iota for the lady. Premeditated.

    Marlowe Fitzpatrik

I don't get this one. "Gold digger" in my understanding is not gender-based (although admittedly usually associated with women). It's about someone who marries the other just because of the financially benefits that would come from the marriage. I'm not sure what this person means with "emotional labour" and what that has to do with gold-digging. Abusive and toxic relationships are a thing on their own. Even gold-diggers could have a successful marriage with their meal-package, if both parties are equally un-invested in the union (and hopefully no offsprings are produced)

Gold digger is a vintage term used in "polite society" to refer to whores. Although plenty of men can be whores, they are referred to as "latharios" or "gigalo's". Still a broken, sexist system.

It is what they call it when men talk about their feelings. They believe that a man is meant to hide his feelings and suffer in silence. This is why they rarely ever call it "emotional labour" when a woman opens up. It is a gender role they want men to follow.

Sure, assault can happen on both sides, but it's more of an issue on one. I don't really think men have to walk with keys in between their fingers, make sure they are with a dog or other company when going out, or overall being scared in general of being harassed. I don't think they have to be afraid that, if they don't do what a woman tells them, they are going to get hurt. Rather than complaining about unfairness, make a change and support our rights as women.

Then they gave him a knife and he could go away as soon as he wanted. Well, if he wanted to go of course, he could also stay there and die from starvation, he was free after all... Yes. I was 17 in a car over 100 miles away from home with my mom’s friend’s husband who was like an uncle to me. I had known him since I was 6. He told me he loved me. I said, I love you, too. “No. I’m in love with you,” and his hand went on my thigh. Patting and rubbing. It stayed there the entire drive home. I was terrified. I had no idea where I was, so I couldn’t get out of the car and take a cab or bus home. I have never felt safe or trusted any man since then. Yeah, it totally shattered my ability to trust.

I'm sure this had to do with the fact my mom was a waitress for years, but I complained to her that the neighbor boy was putting his hands on me that I didn't like, we were both 12. She said " You have to put up with it because men are no different". Well he wasn't the only one noticing the curves of becoming a woman, the school janitor did too. He was a bit gentler when he groped me, and my mom's words, he got away with it. 5 years later the guy was caught doing it to another girl. Message was wrong, and her boss should have stopped the men from groping the help. But it was the 60's &70's. The work place has changed, but still not perfect. I love seeing a guy taking a stand for a waitress when he sees her being groped. Especially if he grabs the offender between his legs and shows him what it feels like being grabbed by a MAN. Priceless!

May detailed: “Others use it to share their story on social media or anonymously through ihollaback.org. Many find it to be empowering to turn the lens off of them and onto the person harassing them. It often has the potential to be hugely transformative. If it feels right to you then do it. It doesn’t work that way for everyone so ask yourself, ‘Does it feel right for me?’ or ‘Is there another way to respond?’”

According to May, there is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ response to harassment: “There is no such thing as a perfect response, this is not your fault, and you are not alone. Take the time to recover and employ strategies for taking care of yourself.”

When women talk about the problems we face in the world, men often join in the conversation to point out something that affects them and ask why isn't anybody doing anything about this thing, be it paternity leaves or other things like that. Dudes, all women aren't your mothers. We have so much to fix that f***s up our lives, maybe you guys should stick together and work on making things better instead of just asking who's going to do it for you? Ye, sure, there are men that are working to make things better, but I'm just so tired of men busting into conversations about women's issues to bring up their issues.

Not to mention most of the men who say 'happens to men too' are the same men who laugh at the idea of a woman sexually assaulting a man or think he should have enjoyed it. They're not saying it happens to men too because they actually care about male victims of sexual assault. They just resent having to give a s**t about anything to do with women's problems.

The societal view on sexual assault for all genders is messed up. One is not like the other, but they are the same, it's rape! So how about we stop using genders when talking about it and just call it what it is, Rape! It doesn't matter which gender/race/culture is assaulted more, what matters it that it shouldn't be happening at all! 1 person is too many!

This stupid sentence both makes rape seem less horrible than it actually is (so the victim's pain could be dismissed) and makes men look like complete idiots who cannot understand the consequences of their behavior (which could even lead some of them use it as an excuse). In a campaign about consent in Australia, they had a poster. Told us all about how John was drunk, picked up Jessica, and they had sex. But John is a rapist because Jessica was too drunk to consent. Shame that they already explained John was drunk too, so why isn't Jessica called a rapist? John was also too drunk to consent. As a survivor of rape by female, I'll tell you here and now, I did not consent, and did not enjoy it. I also didn't enjoy her trying to take me to court for child support, or the lack of support from the legal system when I reported the rape

One thing that you can do is to develop a ‘quick ritual’ to help you ‘shake off’ what happened every time that you get harassed. Having a friend that you contact when this occurs can also help. Sharing your story with the people you trust can be very powerful and healing. What’s more, affirming to yourself that you deserve better and that you won’t let ‘the haters’ get you down is another response.

“The idea here is that you want you to develop resilience so that you can get out there and keep being you in the world,” May told Bored Panda.

Its slightly misleading. Kotex sanitary pads were developed during WWI in 1910s. Tampax patented tampons in 1930s. In 1950s, she patented adding adhesives to sanitary pads to keep it in place. Im all for black history and she is a great inventor improving on previous inventions - its simply stretching the facts a little too much by calling her the inventor of sanitary pads..

I wish these products were available for girls and women for free in developing countries. Many girls miss school during their periods because they do not have access to sanitary products. Never have penetrative sex with a man or go down on him until he's gone down on you and given you an orgasm. Ladies first. If he can't make you come first each time you climb into the sheets, then that is where the sex stops. This has a double benefit--you get to have an orgasm with a partner all of the time instead of rarely or never, and you'll not be just letting a dude with no skills use your body as a masturbatory aid. Only men who care about their partner's pleasure deserve to get laid. Learn it. Live it. Love it. Get yours, ladies.

My boyfriend always makes sure I have at least one orgasm before the penetrative portion of sexy time commences. He can't enjoy himself unless he knows I'm enjoying myself. He's the first one I've ever been with who thought like that though

This is such a weird concept for me. They look nice, sleek, put together why wouldn't tehy be considered "professional"? But than again I'm not from USA, for me hairstyle is a hairstyle. This one's more racism than sexism. Black people's hair is just inherently unprofessional unless they straighten it and make it look like white people's hair as far as a lot of people are concerned.

That's just ridiculous, as long as it's neat and tidy what's the issue? I'm going to speak from a viewpoint of moderate ignorance but in my experience afro hair is a LOT harder to style than non afro (I used to shave my mates hair and it took about 7 passes to get it even), I think white people are probably ignorant of the amount of effort it takes to maintain and style it.

It's ridiculous. Hair on school children should meet 2 criteria: clean and lice-free, and able to be tied back or otherwise kept out of their faces during science experiments and cookery classes.

Bearing in mind the majority of the population are heterosexual, who do all these men think that these other men are sleeping with?? It’s great for guys apparently, and celebrated or seen as a congratulatory thing to have loads of partners, one after another. But for them to do that, there has to be lots of available women also happy to have loads of male partners, one after another. That means for it to be ok for guys to do that, it literally has to be ok for women to do that too!! I have never understood the mentally and the different attitude with men vs women having multiple partners.

I don’t know if this is true, where I’m from rapists get ridiculed, beat up, not allowed to work at most places and are often required to inform there neighborhoods. If you go to jail as a rapist you are usually raped by other inmates or put into special units with other rapist. Your are legitimately the scum of the scum and you will be tortured physically and mentally for the rest of your life...And I think that’s how it’s should be

Maybe this is cultural? But, as far as I know, in my country it is literally the worst thing anyone can say about a man eg rape or molesting children. They'd rather be accused of murder than have anyone think that of them, sex crimes are looked down on even in prison and they are routinely assaulted, most have to be segregated for safety. Rapists are despised by men here..

I’m a fan of poet Dylan Thomas’ lines: “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” While the context is important, you can interpret the words to mean that you should fight for what’s right instead of giving in to the pressure placed on you to stay quiet. Just remember that your safety is paramount: online and IRL.

I got very paranoid, thankfully I recognized it, so was able to control it, with the help of family and medication. Tell me why public schools have communal sinks outside in the hallway in Jr High and High school for kids to wash their hands after going to the restroom? Imagine if you were a girl that flooded and needed to clean yourself up and wash the blood off your hands and body? He ran to the store and got her tampons, chocolate, Midol and a teddy bear. He had absolutely no problem walking down the feminine product aisle or going up to the registers with it all. I think she is lucky to have him!

What about girls who are grossed out by their periods? I'm not trying to be snarky but I'm genuinely asking. I'm not grossed out by mine, but I have a friend who's grossed out by periods. Is that bad or weird?

Well you said 'girls' so I'm guessing she might be quite young, in which case this could be the case of everything about your body feeling wrong during puberty. But if a grown woman is disgusted by her own body then I'm sorry but I'd say that wasn't very healthy (I wouldn't say 'weird' or 'bad' though).

Men in the United States are just uncomfortable because they know women will do a better job. This is why they have done everything in their power to stop Hillary Clinton from being president. She is smarter, she is more efficient and I am not even a Hillary Clinton fan. But how hard insecure Republican men have fought against her is just disgusting.

In my experience, boys are more dramatic than any girl I've ever known. Emotionally unstable , always getting offended when what you said wasn't meant to be offensive, and always causing problems. Happens. Every. Day.

One of the things I love about getting older is being able to break away from those expectations. If a creepy guy comes over and tries to interrupt my conversation with my friend while we are out having a coffee or whatever (and it happens a lot where I live) I very much enjoy the look on his face when I tell him to get lost. 9 times out of 10 I get called a bitch, because they are not used to being told point blank to go away.

Also - they accuse us of wanting mind readers - when really we've told them quite literally what we want. It just wasn't what they wanted to hear, so it's interpreted as "she doesn't get it. She isn't automatically empathizing with the narrative I constructed" so because we're not in instant wave-length harmony... we get scolded on being "difficult and closed off".

If anything girls are only " hard " as teenagers because we were grown up to believe it's basd to express emotions in certain ways and that we can't control ourself anyways. It does actually put pressure on someone. Both genders can be emotional, get over yourself. Let them have feelings, jesus.

My son (then 16) cried for hours, because his (first) girlfriend cheated on him ... with one of his best friends! He was desperate, confused and hurt ... and he decided to talk to me about it. The months after, were a roller coaster of emotions ... that the whole family, was allowed to "experience". The next person to tell me, that boys are easier than girls, should duck quickly ... or run.

To everyone who said the boys are stronger than girls, please remember at age 9, there is most likely little to no different. Even if the boys were stronger, does that mean the girls are in turn too weak to help out? Just hold less chairs. More people helping will be faster anyways.

I had a boy in middle school, 7th grade, who harassed me daily in science class. He would come up behind me and push his groin into my backside and make sexual noises. I told him repeatedly to stop, told my parents and finally went to my school counselor, who, scheduled a meeting with BOTH of us. The sexual harassment stopped, but the death glares started. Moved on to high school and lost him in a school of over 3,000 students. Saw him at a 7-11 after I graduated high school, he didn't recognize me, but I had a full blown panic attack and spent 30 minutes crying in the parking lot. SOB!

Absolutely. There isn't any disagreement about that. No means no whoever you are. One of the reasons why sex ed is so important, the more you know the more power you have. People keep their children ignorant at their child's risk. Teach all to be decent to each other and consent both ways. You'll still get some disgusting people out there as there is something fundamentally wrong with them unfortunately. Knowing what to look for can help. Hope you are doing well Robert.

And take this question at face value, because I'm not trying to make a statement, I'm genuinely curious. I mean obviously, asking again tomorrow would be creepy, but say, in again 5 years? Because people's opinions and relationships do change, so do you guys think that would still be rude?

Personally, for me, if I just say “no thanks” or something similar then there is no opening for the guy to try again. If I said something like “I’m seeing someone” or “I just got out of a relationship” then I’m not interested at this time but I’m leaving the door open for the future for one of us to ask the other out. I do try to be clear about it though, so they know for sure where we stand.

    1. That isn't as true nowdays. We aren't in the '80s. Many parents have equal custody (provided they were good parents) 2. For the single parents thing, they mean the parents who completely ditches his family, not even wanting custody. 3. Not all single parents are automaticlly women. Just like not all children with parent issues had a bad father

*PTSD is REAL. Plus it's not socially acceptable to talk about it - it makes people uncomfortable or they assume you just want attention. So many layers here on why people dont or havent, but they should. It's a serious WAY TOO F*****G COMMON issue.

100% this. When I was in high school, my boyfriend shoved my hand down his pants after I had repeatedly told him I didn't wanna touch his d**k. It was probably 10 years before I realized that what he did could be considered assault.

That is victim blaming. People want to think they would not have made mistake x so THEY would never get raped. Which isn't true, it can happen to anyone, but it feels instantly SAFE. Same with saying 'aren't you over it yet, just move on' et cetera. THEY don't want to think about the bad thing they hope they will never have to experience because they don't want to feel powerless or akward. Also tonic immobility. Over 70! % of men and women freeze or coöperate when attacked. This isn't a reaction you can train away, it just happens. So please never ask 'why didn't you say no or why didn't you scream or struggle'.

Even in this 19th century arrangement, the women did not/do not live "for free". Women have been working (outside the home) throughout history, and there was a time that the husband legally owned all their earnings. And in addition, women in a "traditional" arrangement are usually expected to do all the cooking, cleaning, childcare (where applicable), and miscellaneous housework.

I LOVE movies where the female characters are intelligent, strong, don't put up with anybodys s**t, and kick ass!! Thats why my favorite female actors are Doris Day, Claudette Colbert, Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Sigourney Weaver, Lynda Carter, Lyndsy Wagoner, the women who played Charlies Angels, etc.... They kick butt and ask questions later!!!

Unpopular OpinionChick if the Hawaiian went to Vegas to murder someone, then returned to Hawaii, they would NOT be prosecuted in Hawaii. They would be EXTRADITED back to Nevada to face the charges in NV because the crime occurred there. The only way it could be tried in HI is if it was a federal crime (murder committed on federal property) and the prosecutors and/or defendants can file a Rule 21 motion to transfer it to HI.

@Unpopular Opinion Chick.... Planned Parenthood doesn't do abortions. They do MEDICAL CARE. They risk their lives just going to work to help people with prenatal care, post-natal care, pregnancy tests, PAP smears, and pelvic exams. So... Hitler and PP are not comparable. One was a genocidal Austrian; the other is an organization of health clinics. BTW, PP also hasn't killed millions. Ending a pregnancy isn't murder until the 16th to 24th week, depending upon state law. You're welcome. Have a nice day.

When there are half a million orphans living in and out of foster care in the United States alone, making women give birth to unwanted babies is sickening. When the man can walk away and continue to live his dreams while the woman has to put her life on hold with a high chance of ever continuing down her road, forcing women to give up her dreams to have an unwanted baby is horrendous. When women's bodies contort out of shape, bones are possibly fractured and causing them to pee every time they sneeze, cough, laugh or just any physical activity for the rest of their life, making them do this to their bodies via an unwanted pregnancy is just plain mean. When forcing women to give birth to babies with severe defects who will more than likely die within the next day or so and causing extreme grief and possible suicide because she is not allowed to abort the fetus is cruel. NO ONE has the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body. It's just that simple!!!

@UnpopularChickOpinion well would ya look at that. You with probably no medical training whatsoever, and me, a doctor specializing in pregnancy and fetuses. Fetuses do not express emotions or thoughts and don’t even express their “life” (which is something they don’t have at this level anyway). Fetuses are only considered alive by trained doctors when they are on their 16th week. It’s hilarious to see these arguments by people who don’t have enough training to know anybody.

This is a simple one. The pregnant woman is a US citizen and, therefore, has the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The fetus, OTOH, is not a citizen until it's born as an infant. You can't give a fetus rights at the expense of a citizen; it's illegal and unconstitutional.

In the days of sinking ships the statistics clearly show that if nothing is said then mostly men will survive and women and children mostly die. If they are told 'women and children first' the numbers look up a bit. To have a meaningful survival rate the 'women and children first' has to be actively enforced.

In previous generations would rather die the hero than be a single parent. In those days (and don't get me wrong, its not exactly even yet) fathers worked 40 hours and came home and rested. The mother had to make everything from scratch clean cloth diapers, hand was dishes and laundry and make sure the children were safe and nurtured. Of course they would rather die then do everything

This wasn't a historic rule. There was no need hundreds of years ago, no life rafts. Likewise on the Titanic the rule was needed as there was a considerable shortage of life rafts - they were exempted from the safety rules of the time because it was considered unsinkable (due to other safety features) There's no need for the rule if there's enough rafts..

The Titanic wasn't exempted - they didn't put in all the boats they could have because the boats would have blocked the view.

I was told in a tour in historical castle in Finland that the saying had also quite grim history: Men were important part of defending a castle so they sacrificed lower class women to go out a door first to see if there was someone waiting behind it ready to strike

It's a "survival of the species" argument. It goes thusly: a man can impregnate a hundred women, but a woman can't bear children by a hundred men. Therefore, men are largely expendable, and women are "a protected resource" that must be defended against the "dangers" (i.e., opportunities) of the world. This is also likely the reasoning behind discrimination against lesbians (who could potentially "take one for the team") and especially gay men "who don't contribute to the survival of the species". The understanding that we're in in a place where BRAINS are the more likely determinants of species survival is still trying to take hold.

I was told by an OBGYN that I had chlamydia 15 times...in a row...the test came back negative 15 times...in a row. What I did have was uterine cancer. I was 32. He asked my husband if he wanted me to have a hysterectomy or just chemo. My husband, bless him, almost punched him and told him we didn't want anything from him, we were going to find a different doctor, one that respected women.

THIS! The average model for health care education on the body was, and still remains to some extent, in the US to be something like a 25-year-old *male*. Uhhh.... and the other half of the species? Also, a man comlpains "my testicle hurts" and it's a specialst in 48 hours. I complain that I have nausea every month with my cycle, and I'm blown off for 10 years, then told, "Eh, that's just part of nature." And I have a medical degree (MD). And they still do this. Really? Christians believe because Eve ate the apple all woman kind must suffer for it. And since a huge majority of the conservatives are Christians, they try to use their bible against us. They say the same thing about child birth pain. Women must suffer because of Eve. Reason #7349 I am now agnostic.

It is just a phrase they use to describe a certain stereotype of personality : fun to be around, chill... a girlfriend who does not try to be a perfect princess but who can also just be a nice buddy. It is more convenient because it carries a lot of sense without taking too many words, that's all.

My husband told me he was not comfortable with me taking his surname upon marriage b/c, as I quite clearly recall nearly 30 years on, "I don't own you!" This is one of many reasons I married him (and, no, I did not take his surname).

I took my wife's last name in Finland they get added together the person who takes the others name has it first so it should of been Kallio-Williams but it turns out nobody in the entire history of the country had ever taken their wives name so I had to have it the other way around and they had to ha e a debate about it 😂

Or you can tell them "Yes! we're both changing our names! To Skywalker! (Snickett/Alamo/Drakehold/Newton/Scissorhands)" And you tell everyone who asks something different. And anyone asks why, its because you both think the new name is so much cooler, and why else would you change your name?

I like it when couples make their own name. I’m adding my fiancé’s name to mine. He seemed kinda responsive when I mentioned him taking mine too. I’m chill across the board about this but it is annoying that this too comes from patriarchy.

I've taken a man's last name from my dad and a woman's last name from my mom. Iberian countries and their colonies usually take one of each, cos makes no sense to take only one, I am not only my father's daughter, taking only his is ignoring 50% of my blood

In my country you usually have the (first) last name form your dad and mom. A few years ago a new law was created so you can change the order (mom last name & dad last name), it's your option but it still really uncommon. So the last year my mom and grandma were talking about last names and how because my dad and his siblings only had girls the last name was "dead" in his family, I heard it and was like "no, MY lastname will be my childs first because I do not need to be married to have kids, and even if I'm married I have the righ to choose", they saw me with a surprised expression.

In Portugal and it's former colonies the most common order is opposite, first the mother's last then the father's last. But ppl has always been free to do whatever (one, both, first, second, etc). From the 10 kids my grandma had, they mixed and matched the orders and had a total of 4 different combinations, so I carry one of my grandma's surname (unfortunately I like my dad's better, so my husband and my kid took his, not my mother/grandmother's)

When my dad married, his wife was a widow. Aside from her birth surname (which has 4 names) she had one of her former husband's as well (5 total then), but she removed it and added my dad's. Would have been more fun with 6 surnames

Pay her market wage for nanny, housekeeper, cook, etc, over the years she was out of the workforce. Pay her ongoing rates for 24hr a day childcare, plus expenses, until kids leave home. Probrably would work out to more than the alimony.

Plus metalheads, we're the coolest dudes going, I have lost count of the amount of times I have seen or been part of throwing a guy out for trying s**t with girls, we don't like that in our community, everyone is welcome.

But let's further examine your dumb logic... with every scenario posed you have to also flip the script. So what's the opposite? It's a form of transphobia. Basically saying 'if you allow a trans-man to use a female bathroom / locker room / go to a female prison. That person who is 'biologically male' will use this as an opportunity to take advantage of women.' Which is absolute bullshit and leads to a lot of pain and suffering in the trans community,

I think this has more to do with drag queens. People get freaked out and pull this "it harms women" argument so deep from their nether parts it must require superhuman flexibility. I personally find drag shows incredibly joyous.

"Cis" means "not trans." There's an obsession in the USA about not letting transwomen into "women's" restrooms, for the fear that some cisman might one day try to sneak in to assault ciswomen -- even though both transmen and transwomen are WAAAAY more likely to be assaulted when using the restrooms then ciswomen especially in this outlandish scenario transphobes have dreamed up. Trans folks want to use the restrooms...to pee. That's it. But it's become a hotly contested, political issue. (J.K. Rowling repeated the bordering-on-nonsensical transphobia, which is what the title refers to.)

Yes, but I see no reason to make it easier for them to do so by providing convenient loopholes. Also, squalling "transphobic!!!!!" to every discussion about the genuine concerns about the safeguarding of women's sex-based rights and protections just shows that there is no actual good argument as to why these sex-based rights and protections should be dismantled. So STFU.

Is this about the Canadian trans-woman that invites underage children to come swim in her pool topless and goes to female waxing salons and makes a fuss about being refused (this person still has male anatomy - waxing that is a different skill set. This human can just go to a co-ed salon and just get a waxer that can do both, but refuses to, because they are a woman, but.. well.. it's complicated as heck, but something is off at least with the children's parties..)

But men who don’t go to that effort can be told to leave when you find them in the park toilets

Please tell me what offensive term I can use directed towards you in response to you using "cis"? Hard to keep up with the new terms and I want to make sure my return remark is on the cutting edge.

Sir, do you understand that cis is not an insult? It's just short for cisgender, the opposite of transgender. I really hope you're joking, because I'd hate to believe you're that stupid.

Ask a man if he still likes to orgasm with a condom. If he says "no," no sex. You'll be surprised how many are suddenly okay with wearing a condom.

Hey! If you are about to have sex with a guy who doesn't want to put a condom on, that is a huge RED FLAG, this is not a guy who respects anyone. DO not have sex with them. That is a no go.

Yeah. This is it. I couldn't laugh, though, because it hit too close to home.
