Non-Pregnant Woman Is Tasting And Rating The Weirdest Food Cravings Pregnant Women Have (30 Pics)
We all have some weird food combinations that we absolutely love to feast on while our friends watch us do it with utter confusion on their faces. Melon and Parma ham is one such concoction that I adore, but others find it strange for some reason. The truth is, I know people who drink milk with meat, so I’m really not the weird one here. However, none of these even compare to the bizarre cravings that some women get while pregnant.
Mia Challiner, a TikToker with a whopping 1.6 million followers, thinks so, too. In fact, she was so intrigued by these weird food combos that she decided to try them out! The result—a series of glorious videos where she tastes and rates pregnancy craving foods. Peanut butter & mayo toast and chicken nuggets dipped in ice cream are just the tip of the gastronomic iceberg.
The best part? Mia shows us that some of these weird combos that we’d be too afraid to try out can actually taste incredibly good. I for one am going to try them out. But I’ll start off with something easy and approachable like cheese and honey instead of the more… eldritch things.
Mia was kind enough to answer some of my questions about her videos, the inspiration behind them, as well as what her best and worst cravings combos are. Scroll down for Bored Panda's interview with her.
@miachalliner pt8 as requested! probably the best one yet ##imnotpregnant ##weirdfoodcombos

It happens in sweden too. Not super common, but common enough that people will not look at you funny.
Load More Replies...This is not weird at all. Altough the jam would be called marmalade when you put it on cheese or a toast
Really? In Norway only jam made from oranges is called marmalade, jam doesn't change it's name depending on what you put it on.
Load More Replies...Well, yeah. Who hasn't had brie wrapped in crescent roll-up dough then baked, and served with a raspberry jam?
here in Mexico we eat this on crakers when we have a special ocation!
I've never been pregnant but I do this anyway, ever since someone dared me to when I was in school.
Chicken nuggets and frosting or chocolate and Wolf Brand chili. Don't judge me!
I barely had cravings, with either my single or twin pregnancy. I was so nauseous I had to force myself to eat. With my twins I was down 17 lbs at the end of the first trimester so they sent me to a nutritionist. She suggested things like banana milkshakes that were high calorie but palatable, I couldn't handle anything with a strong smell like peanut butter, pickles, broccoli, etc. It all made me so sick. With the twins I actually had motion sickness because of all the movement, they would be doing somersaults in there trying to switch positions with each other. I have a pic of Twin A dancing in top of Twin B's head, I guess it was a dance party.
"As a content creator, I’m always searching for fun, original ideas/trends to bring to TikTok in order to entertain my audience. As I was scrolling through YouTube, I stumbled upon a video entitled 'testing women’s pregnancy cravings,'" Mia shared with Bored Panda how she decided to start making the videos about cravings herself.
"I thought it was a really cool concept that I had never seen on TikTok before so I decided to film myself trying some of these interesting food combinations. Originally, my plan was only to make one or two videos testing these weird pregnancy cravings but the response I got after the very first video was uploaded was phenomenal. Since then I have made over 20 videos entitled 'Trying Women’s WEIRD pregnancy cravings,'" she said that this video series has been a roaring success.
Hey face says it better than any comment I could make about this monstrosity.
no... when people crave stuff like that, corn starch, laundry soap, chalk.... it's your body telling you that you are missing / lacking an important vitamin.
Load More Replies...It's a sign of Pica. People with the disorder pica compulsively eat items that have no nutritional value. A person with pica might eat relatively harmless items, such as ice. Or they might eat potentially dangerous items, likes flakes of dried paint or pieces of metal. In the latter case, the disorder can lead to serious consequences, such as lead poisoning. This disorder occurs most often in children and pregnant women. It’s usually temporary. See your doctor right away if you or your child can’t help but eat nonfood items. Treatment can help you avoid potentially serious side effects.
Try mixing it in a 2:1 ratio with water. Then at least you'll get a fun non-Newtonian fluid out of it, and it's even named what you say when you try to eat it straight up. Oobleck!
Mia opened up to Bored Panda about the best and worst food combinations she's tried so far. "In my opinion, some of the best pregnancy cravings have been chips and honey, apple and cheese, and ice cream on toast. The worst pregnancy cravings I’ve tried are either plain flour, cornstarch or apple and toothpaste... ew!" And now we know what to try and what to stay away from!
Student Mia points out with a hashtag in her videos that she herself isn’t pregnant. The woman, who is British, currently lives in France. Her rise to fame on TikTok was mainly due to her testing and tasting the weirdest foods. Some of these are so peculiar, I’d be hard-pressed to find the courage to try them out. However, Mia seems to have more than enough courage.
Sounds good. I'll get some brioche and try that.
Load More Replies...They serve cheese with honey or tomato jam in restaurants too. It is common and tasty.
I feel like we're leaning heavily on ice cream here. I'm not saying it didn't taste good...I'm just not a fan of the oil and milk combo.
I agree about the oil, maybe try it with homemade stuff that isn't as oil-y
Load More Replies...I had pizza with cake frosting once. Amazed at how well those went together.
I do not understand how this could taste good. Plus--won't the ice cream cool down the pizza?
The content that Mia features is a mix of her own research, as well as the suggestions that she takes from her adoring fans. That, dear Pandas, can lead to some truly unforgivable food mixes being tried out. Like blue cheese and brownies, strawberry and mayo, and sardine with cereal. I really hope that this won’t put you off your breakfast, lunch, and dinner, dear Readers. Though it seems like I’ll be embracing intermittent fasting until I get my appetite back.
Pregnancy cravings aren’t all that Twilight Zone-esque once you look at them closer. Intermountain Healthcare points out that a number of things can cause these cravings, including hormones, nutritional deficiencies, and a heightened sense of smell and taste. Usually, cravings begin in the first trimester and are at their peak in the second trimester. Though, of course, every mom and her body are different, so how and when these cravings appear can be unique, too.
Mayonnaise is the most disgusting condiment on the planet. Yep- I said it.
Load More Replies...I've been eating pb and mayo since I was a kid. Good as a m**o, can't convince people to try it.
Why do people think my kinds and I are crazy for eating that??
Load More Replies...If it was raw it would be oreo and sashimi. The name sushi refers to the rice, not the raw fish that many contain. Not that any normal person needs to know that. I'll leave now.
Load More Replies...Something I think, I need to try since I like salmon and oreo (chocolate, for that matter 😁)
you can as long as it isn't raw (to avoid parasites) and you don't have too much (to avoid vit A overdose). One small portion of cooked/smoked a week is fine
Load More Replies...Something that pregnant women are stereotypically portrayed to be munching on in films and TV shows is a food that I personally love munching and crunching on—pickles. If you’ve got a craving for pickles, odds are that you have low sodium levels. The plus side is that pickles are also very low in calories, so you shouldn’t feel guilty about snacking on them either way.
Another favorite is chocolate. To oversimplify things a bit, chocolate helps our brains produce serotonin and, by extension, endorphins which make us feel happy. It’s a great way to get you feeling less blue when you’re down in the dumps (tried and tested, believe me), but the downside is that it’s not the healthiest of foods to binge on.
Wait, this isn't normal? I mean usually you'd have it on a bagel, but...
Or a sweet pastry -- sort of like cheesecake with a fruit topping
Load More Replies...I use cream cheese as a substitute for butter. Works with almost everything. Honey is my favorite ;)
My mom made this for lunch for my brother & I instead of the usual peanut butter & jelly. I felt she was trying to be fancy vs predictable. I enjoyed it.
I think she's british so she means french fries here :)
Load More Replies...It's more appetizing to me than the majority of this list.
Load More Replies...dont use extravirgin, use 'pan oliveoil' instead- its not so gross :D :D
Though going for organic, eco-friendly chocolates that have more cocoa in them could be a good way to satisfy your cravings and avoid some of the sugar. To be fair, when you become aware of such weird food combinations like the ones that Mia tries out on a regular basis, chocolate and pickles seem far from weird. In the mood for some more deliciously peculiar foods? Check out Bored Panda's previous post about the most bizarre dishes that pregnant women love right over here, all photographed in fine-dining style. It's a colorful way to perk you up.
Is she high? She seems to be liking most of these weird combinations. I doubt they are quite as delicious as she is claiming.
I'm always grateful my cats eat this instead of me. Just looking at it makes my tongue dry due to the amount of salt I see.
Excuse me while i make my way out for actually liking cat food- 🙈
We had banana sandwiches all the time as kids! It's even better with some peanut butter.
Very common snack growing up indeed - with peanut butter, or a little bit of cinnamon or honey!
Load More Replies...Oh yeah, with peanut butter it’s really good too. I used to eat pb and bananas on Saltines too
Plus I grew up with banana sandwiches through out my childhood, and to this day at coming up to the age of 30, 29 now, I love them and other weird food concoctions!! XD
Try choc spread banana and peanut butter sandwiches, if you fancy levelling it up ... YUMMY! LOL XD
Banana, peanut butter and Lyle's Golden Syrup. Absolutely the best sarmie ever.
Avocado's taste is buttety and somewhat neutral. So it fits in a lot of combos.
Sweet and fat is always a big temptation. Not healthy but addictive.
Load More Replies...you can use avocado to make "chocolate" stuff (like cake) without chocolate
Yes, or a wonderful avocado "cheese" cake - yummy!
Load More Replies...Elderly people used to do that because it helps with your blood pressure! And anyway raw onion is common in salads
But it's not the same in a salad that bitting it like an apple :S
Load More Replies...Lol, when my daughter was a baby we had to put onions out of reach because she ate them like apples
Wrong kind of onion. You want a sweet onion like a Vidalia, or scallions dipped in salt.
Apple pie with a slice of cheese is classic, as is a fruit cake or fruit bread with cheese.
Cheddar and tart apple is a traditional snack in some parts of the country. My grandparents would melt a slice of cheddar on top of a slice of hot apple pie. She needs to get out more.
Why would you eat raw flour? Also...if I'm not mistake that will cause serious constipation.
The point of the list is that these are *weird* cravings. Not normal. So "why" doesn't come into it. There is no explanation.
Load More Replies...My sister used to love raw flour when she was young (maybe 6-12ish). Nowadays it's know to sometimes be contaminated with salmonella so it's not a good idea to eat it.
I heard about pregnant woman who craved washing powder. She solved it by smelling washing powder and eating flour at same time.
Ugh just the thought of it absorbing all the moisture out of your mouth.
This wouldn’t be bad, I actually used to eat pickles/peanut butter/Saltines younger.
I got dared to eat a peanut butter pickle sandwich by one of my friends once and it was actually good
Load More Replies...Warm buttered toast with peanut butter and pickle slices - so good!
Heh, when I was younger after all the pickles were gone I would pour myself a glass. It’s so good, still do it occasionally.
When I used to hard core cycle, pickle juice was amazing for electrolyte replenishment.
I used to drink pickle juice often when pregnant as a relief for minor heartburn. (Had really had heartburn for all 9 months, tried to keep from taking the stronger medications as much as possible)
After a long run in summer? Hells yes. Better than Gatorade to get electrolytes.
Load More Replies...Pickle back! Whiskey shot followed by a shot of pickle juice, nom!!
With bread (in a sandwith), jamón and nocilla/nutella is a thing a lot of children in my country "invent" and like. But not adults... as far as I know.
Also, and much better! The typical sandwich with anchovies and spread choc. Sweet+salty+delicious!!!!
Load More Replies...I used to eat pepperoni and Nutella (not pregnant). I think chocolate works with many flavors.
Chocolate covered bacon, try it. I promise it’s good even if you’re not pregnant.
No- the outer lemon is edible and full of vitamins.
Load More Replies...I eat lemon slices whenever there’s some in the house. Same with lime
Load More Replies...Lol once my brother kept coming into my room with slices of lemon, I ate like 5 slices of lemon that day 😂
she must buy a different brand of tuna and ice cream than I do to call that a 10/10 cause nope nope nope
Load More Replies...Sounds like a combination my cats will love. But I'll leave it at that.
Oh, horseshit. But I suppose she'd say that was good with ice cream, too.
Hmm only way i see this working is if it's the canned tuna in oil - in which case it's probably the oil and ice cream overwhelming the tuna taste...at least i hope...
Also an omelette à la nutella is great! Better, easier and faster than a nutella crêpe!
Load More Replies...I feel like this one depends on if you like hot sauce or not... (I eat it plain)
mmm, a peanutbutter sandwich with hotsauce is delish. even better when slightly toasted
Which is the tuna and which is the PB? Looks like garlic butter dipping sauce from papa John's.
i did this once think it's but nasty and gross out my friends but it was actualyl very tasty
Obviously she's not British, pasta on toast is quite common, even posh versions https://www.jamesmartinchef.co.uk/recipes/spaghetti-and-arrabiata-sauce-on-toast/
In Mexico we eat this on a baguette like bread and tomato soup, we call it "torta de fideos"
For your digestive system it is actually much better to cook or soak them.
Load More Replies...I like jam on toast as a side for my eggs... (It helps with the sulfer maybe? )
My favourite easy chicken cook is to mix a bowl of mango chutney and soy sauce and then pour it over chicken thighs - add salt and pepper and cook in oven for 45 on a moderate heat. It's easy peasy beautiful! (works good to use as marinade and then BBQ the chicken too)
Add some olive oil, balsamic and you have an orange-mustard vinaigrette.
Definitely! Or, add some cream cheese and you have a cheesecake. (btw, I love your name. It's one of my two first names.)
Load More Replies...Kind of like dipping chips into tzatziki sauce just without the cucumber and herbs.
i'm eating a pickle, cheese, mayo, mustard, and ham sandwich while reading this post
Load More Replies...Necause you are using the wrong cheese, try with Edam or Manchego cheese and, Voila!!! Its delicious
It works, but it have to be paired properly. For cheese like brie or camembbert? only full dark chocolate - 80 or 90% cacao content. For harder cheeseboard, like Dubliner or Cheddar or some aged sheep cheese? - so-called semisweet or dessert chocolate - 50% cacao content is really good
My friend and I were pregnant at the same time. My go to food was egg rolls with chopped pickles stuffed in them. My friend's? Cinnamon rolls with mustard😱
Tomato and avocado (plus onion, cilantro and chilis) are Mexican food staples
Why so much butter? I think you are supposed to melt the butter and dip the strawberry in it.
I often make a strawberry sandwich (with a normal amount of butter). Delicious!
Omg! How much salt did she put on her strawberry? My kidney is crying for mercy by just looking at it.😆
Melons are especially good with a dash of salt. My dad and cousins liked salted watermelon. An uncle liked pepper on peaches.
Load More Replies...Does this girl not know how to eat any berries? First the unpeeled banana and now a strawberry with the green still on it
Nah in homeschool I've been taking a bowl of ice to my room while I do work
I love that. Especially in the summer it's very refreshing. Nice crunch.
I eat banana with food. Rice, beans, some meat and a salad - basically the everyday food in Brazil
Gotta add some spice and sour for that to work. I'd recommend a hint of ginger and a bit of soy sauce. Some garlic will help bring the whole thing together. Oh wait, I basically just described Thai chicken...
Ketchup is basically tomato puree. So you're eating tomato with pureed tomato.
Exactly. That should be called, tomato a la tomato.😜
Load More Replies...Doesn't she know how to peel fruits? Granted, there are fruits that you can eat the peel, and there are some that you have to peel - and bananas are one of them. Oy.
oh i always ate it when my mum was gone
Load More Replies...I once tried ketchup on a cucumber, it tasted so much like pickles!
What's the white? Cold butter? Plain orange It's just marmalade without sugar.
Maybe it's clotted cream? You're right about the marmalade.
Load More Replies...I love just coffee beans by themselves, especially with a bit of chocolate. And I think it's best to have them one at a time because they're petty hard.
I always keep chocolate-covered coffee beans handy.
Load More Replies...Had to post it again. "Does it have sugar in it? . .. Tnen YESSSS" Buddy the Elf
Add salt, pepper and toasted sourdough bread and you have a great sandwich.
Her rating system is weird, but kudos to her for trying all of these. I would be gagging just holding them on my hand thinking I had to eat all of it
When pregnant women eat food that's isnt food (toothpaste, cornstarch, etc) it is called pica. It is a potentially dangerous condition we typically only see in pregnant women and malnourished children. Scientists know why malnutrition can cause this but the cause is less clear in pregnant women.
Probably iron levels, I get pica for ice cubes when my iron levels tank
Load More Replies...My only pregnancy craving was for celery. I ate tons of it every day. There must be something about it my body needed. Can take it or leave it normally.
I could not get enough beef jerky and diet root beer. I still like jerky now and then but I have to really be in the mood to have root beer (maybe once or twice a year).
Load More Replies...It's not adviced to eat blue cheese or cold smoked salmon while pregnant. Sure these are cravings, not necessarily what people actually eat and she's not pregnant, but for anyone thinking those are common things to eat while pregnant. But then I could also say I craved red wine and a medium rare steak. Didn't have them, but sure craved them!
