As well as medical staff wearing masks on the regular, pre-Covid, they were also worn by carpenters, construction workers, car-sprayers etc to avoid breathing in dust and harmful fumes. All doing hard physical work, often out in the heat. Festival goers wear masks/bandanas to avoid breathing dust, and many traditional forms of dress in cultures from arid, desert climates include face coverings. They all manage to breathe just fine. The anti-mask brigade are just dumb, selfish and weak. If they cannot tolerate a bit of fabric over this mouth for a short time TO SAVE LIVES then they should just stay the f**k home.

Seeing other person’s perspective may also help you in an argument. “You don’t have to agree with a foe in order to see his or her perspective,” says Susan.
“However, if you want to win an argument, you do need to be able to see the world the way your opponent does. Stepping into the mental set of those you argue with allows you to figure out what’s influencing them.”
If you figure out what’s triggering the person you’re arguing with, you can direct your focus there and showing a little empathy never hurt anybody.

My area of Maine has a large Somali community that came in over the past 25 years. Mail/package delivery person here. It is a job you dont necessarily need any training for. I don't perform open heart surgery or smth. In my case, the pay is comparatively good; most of my friends earn more, but I can make a living. (BTW, none of my friends ever gave me the feeling that I or my work are worth less than theirs) Especially with Corona, people began to realize the importance of our job. We are essential workers (and I even have a paper to prove that; in case there is a lockdown and no one except essential workers can go outside) staying at home, people started ordering online more, so we had workload like christmas (which is a loooot). In short: We bring your s**t if you can't get it yourself I've been on the road in 38°C, I've been out there in -8°C. And moreover: I explain ways for people in the city, tell them where to find the best cake in town, I help whenever they need me, as good as I can. My customers trust me they are grateful for my work, and I'm proud of that.

You should take pride in having a job, and doing it well. Whether that job is delivering parcels, or driving a truck, or working in an office. It doesn't have to be high status, it's necessary work, and you deserve to be treated fairly, and with respect and appreciation for the service you provide. Society needs doctors and lawyers and teachers, and also needs cashiers, and janitors, and amazon employees. If you're an asshole to someone because they have a 'low-status' job, that just means you're an asshole.

Estonian healthcare is one of the best in my mind. Every single person who is working or is under 19, is insured. Also retired people. You just pay for your medicine which is also with a discount. Time to get to a specialist is also fairly short. No medical bills. People are not paying idiotic sums for an ambulance ride. To be exact, we pay nothing.

Canadian medicine literally saved my life in the 1970s (blood clot the size of a fried egg near my brain, I nearly died, yadda, yadda, still kicking nearly 40 years later), has helped a great deal with my autistic son (now 33), and recently saved both my hubby's life when he was hit with Stage 4 throat cancer and my Mum when she got bladder cancer. The most I've ever had to pay was 45 bucks for the ambulance ride. Yeah, I'm never leaving Canada!

Portugal here. Three months in hospital with my son. Not even paying parking. And a team of pneumologists, neurologists and intensivists. Going home today. A mini hospital is waiting for him in his room, with oxigen and cough assist equipments. A team of one doctor and two nurses will come by every day. ZERO costs.

I feel like a real comeback would include actual facts on wait times. For "serious medical procedures" with any real urgency, you don't wait. You DO wait if it's not serious or not urgent. As opposed to the American system, where you don't wait if you're rich or insured, and if you're not rich or not insured you either 1) don't get the procedure at all, even if it's serious & urgent, or 2) get it but declare bankruptcy afterward because you just lost everything. Guess which one I prefer?

I always love when this case gets brought up. I totally bought the whole frivolous lawsuit thing until I actually learned the details of the case. Amazing, the PR job they pulled on that one. Extra detail: the amount the jury awarded the woman was equivalent to the coffee sales McDonald's made in a SINGLE DAY at the time. They were trying to make a point.

A lot of immigrants work in jobs that others don’t want to do, majority have come for a better life and will take what they can, they have to start their lives all over again and they are not picky like many of us westerners (especially the privileged). They often take the lower paying jobs like trolley collectors, taxi/uber drivers, food delivery drivers and fruit pickers etc. What a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that a lot of these immigrants are well educated but their qualifications mean nothing because of where they are from and studied so they have to do it all over again.

Picking fruit is a HUGE one! And it's vitally important too. There was a news story from a few years ago out of Washington state, they had to bring in Jamaican pickers to take care of the apple harvest. Actually flew them in from Jamaica because they couldn't get anyone local willing to pick fruit for as long as it took.

I used to work at a recruiting company that helped high school kids get recruited for college sports. We all loved working with the few International students that we had. They always worked so hard, showed up on time, did what we told them to. Many of the American kids were very lazy. Not all of course. But all of our International students were nicer, more respectable and worked the hardest. I had this kid set up a call with us at 1 am his time. And then we had American families complain that we closed at 9 pm...like sorry, we don't work 24 hours a day. We have a life. But the International families never complained about the time difference and would do anything to get recruited. Many immigrants do work harder.

The cop's brutality is not a viable argument against BLM. One can condemn an individual's actions and still have compassion for members of their group. If one applies that "poisoned-the-well" logic, one could justify a wide range of discrimination. An example from years back in my town: a landlord refused to rent an apartment to a black medical student because some previous black tenants had been noisy.

Not a good comparison, I chose to go to school and acquire debt, who chooses to get the plague? I have to say, it would bother me that I managed to pay back my $50+ student loans, and it took me almost 30 years to do it, long before anyone started discussing the government forgiving student loans. New Testament (not Gospels though) also bans homosexuality. But it was written in an ancient Roman Empire, when the most common homosexual behaviour was old rich men grooming teen boys, as written above. Author of said words couldn't have known that there will be time when real homosexual relationships of equal partners, who knows what would he thinks of those? While I wish I would have focused a little more on relationships, I came out of undergrad into a recession. I worked three jobs before I landed a good one. I've worked hard and saved, I have a great job, I've also traveled, I spend time with loved ones. "Marriage and kids", while probably worth it, would have slowed me down... especially as we head into the second recession.

Are you serious? If so, the colors do serve a purpose. Blood on blue or green doesn't end up showing red, but a dark shade of purple or brown. So when someone is operating and blood gets on their clothes it doesn't look like he or she is a butcher. Important for the patient's mindset in an already stressful situation.

They wear certain types of mask, improperly used cloth mask are not them. Cloths masks stop direct spray. If you're going to act smart, try being smart and use proper logic. You're right they won't stop the virus, but they will stop direct spray which limits the viruses ability to travel. Seriously you just give the idiots fire when you reply with media talking points. There is real research and both side are a little right. There are different types of mask for a reason. The ones we use do very little to help, but do make a slight difference. Talk to them like you are not an idiot and you can help them not be an idiot and maybe wear a mask for the little help it does offer. The legal age to marry in Alabama is 18. You can marry at 16 with the approval of both parents and judicial approval. There is no exception for pregnancy. In 2019 AL passed Jessi's Law which terminated all parental rights of any person convicted of sexually assaulting anyone else. It is currently being amended to include "clear and convincing evidence" instead of requiring a conviction. I'm not saying AL doesn't have it's (BIG) issues but we are moving in the right direction. Interestingly enough, when doing my research I read that about half the states in the US don't have a minimum age to marry, but AL isn't one of them.

Stardew Valley can get a bit boring... the time limit... I enjoyed Starbound, Terraria, Craft the world too though those are not specifically about collaboration. But even world of warcraft: when you're in a guild you're likely to go fight bosses together. It can become a tight knit community. And in any huge mmorpg's there will be people / guilds you don't like. In wow, you are helping horde. Eh your side I mean. I get her point about avoiding fights though. I once played a game, I think called Glitch, that was a 2d online game, about exploring, meeting people. and.. can't remember more, it was nice but boring. In the end it was mostly farming for energy to do... can't remember. But plenty of indie games on steam that explore an alternative playstyle. About 15 years ago I played "thief" - first person sneaker, this wasn't about killing but about stealth. Loved that too, was quite a new idea at the time. Oh I can go on about games....

It's not just military. I'm in the tourism industry and I can tell you how many times some client decided that 8:00 was actually 8pm and missed his flight. If I write 20:00 it's hard not to know what time you need to fly. I hope you can add or subtract 12 from any number to get you back to what you call 'regular' time.

I had my phone on a 24 hour clock when I was taking tests and/or readying for a class. The subtraction/ thinking process would help my brain "warm up" or allow it to be more alert. I now leave it on because I play ALOT of video games, and when I need to do something else that involves math/science/school stuff, I use the 24 hour clock to get ready. It's an amazingly simple tool that takes literally 2 seconds to use.

US Customary actually. Its measures are named the same as Imperial, but are slightly off from them. Also, friends of mine in BC say they do temperature in Fahrenheit, and that a lot of roads are still marked in miles. The UK still weighs things in stones, which even the US doesn't do. And if I'm not mistaken, Canada is still using Letter, Legal, and Ledger sized paper. Simple fact of the matter is that very few countries are fully metric, most of them have holdovers from whatever previous system they used. And most US Customary measurements are defined in metric units. Anyone who's an engineer of any kind in the US can switch back and forth between them without skipping a beat. There's just not much reason for the average everyday Joe to, it doesn't offer significant advantage to most people's daily life. Plus it's fun to mess with foreigners who bitch about it on social platforms.

I've build a deck, demolished a shed, rebuilt a new shed from my own plans, built a flagstone patio where the old shed was (including cutting all the stone by hand with a chisel and hammer), landscaped all my gardens, finished my own basement, renovated my kitchen, and more. I'm not a carpenter or the like, I work in management, and I taught these skills to myself. I know many of my friends who have done the same. My dad on the other hand, he hires a contractor to do almost ALL household tasks

But, as most adults had had the disease in childhood this generally only affected children. In the western world with good nutrition etc complications were exceptionally rare. Yeah, it's pretty sad. If you really care about this, I recommend supporting your favourite creators on Patreon (if they have it). I don't spend much, only the smallest tier (so around 1-3 dollars per creators and I only support a couple I really love) but I feel like I'm properly voting with my money. And I watch their ads.

In the U. S.there have been a lot of large gatherings where people are not socially distancing and not wearing masks. This is one reason why it is spreading so fast. They then take it home to their families.

I was invited to a wedding a month ago that had over 100 people. Idk how that was allowed but whatever. I didn’t go. But judging from the videos and pics. Majority didn’t wear a mask and no one social distanced. I don’t understand why people do this kind of stuff.

My mother told me that before her and my father got divorced, he was like this. He even yelled at her for hanging up the phone before saying goodbye. She said that while they went to marriage counselling, he would call the therapist before the session, and explain to her what he wanted them to discuss, and then he would try to bribe her with money to lean the conversation in the direction that was pointing to him being right, and my mother being wrong on all aspects of parenting. Now, my mother is not the perfect parent, but seriously. I still have to live with him, and he's partially the reason I have to go to counselling too. to add to that, while the COS and the Satanic Temple exist as religions surrounding "satanism", Satan isn't a deity of destruction and horrific deeds in their ideology. There are few sects that take that to certain extremes, but on the whole Satanists have a firm belief that we are entitled to basic human rights pertaining to pursuit of pleasure and a whole/complete life. They push the boundaries of equality in church, state, and federal awareness and get a lot of push back as a result because people don't want to include "heathens" into their bubbles. i'm a millennial with a "decent" above-average salary in my country. i take of my senior mom. pay medical and utility bills. pay for transport and cooking gas. after all the mandatory expenses, there's little left for "luxuries" like eating out. in a country where onions and tomatoes cost more than OTC vitamin pills and most antibiotics, something's definitely fishy!

Not a millennial but I somehow not starve myself but only eating dinner and a small breakfast that consists of an energy drink, protein shake, waffles, or just some milk. I know it's not healthy but my body doesn't give a poop so I guess I'll just not have energy to do anything. But yet I still have enough energy to do what I need to do. I drink high calorie and high protein drinks throughout the day, I dunno if that's healthy or not but it works for me

I think we can agree that context is important. I know a client who is a single mother with breast cancer, she is taking care of her aging mother and two children. One of them is addicted to opioids. The daughter would steal and manipulate her mother and refuse rehab. My client stopped giving her money and would buy/give gift cards and clothes instead, the daughter pawned it off to afford her addiction. No matter what’s happened in their past, things can’t continue this way. I hope that anyone who has a family suffering from addiction get the resources and help they need before it spirals out of control.

Without context, it's hard for me to have an opinion on that. On the one hand, that is a horrible thing to say to your kid under normal circumstances. On the other hand, the kid could have been awful. We just don't know.
