Parents are often superheroes who receive little to no recognition. Who packed you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every morning when you were in elementary school? Who spent every Saturday for years watching you play football games, rain or shine? Who helped you with your algebra homework when you were crying at the kitchen table thinking it was impossible to ever grasp those concepts? Being a parent is such a tough job, but somehow they manage to go above and beyond to show their children love while asking for nothing in return.

To celebrate some of the sweetest parents in the world, we’ve gathered a list of heartwarmingly wholesome examples of moms and dads showing their kids love. Grab the tissues now because some of these stories might just get to you! Enjoy reading this list, and if you have the chance, remember to give your parents an extra squeeze or send them an “I love you” text later today. Then if you’re looking for even more stories featuring sweet parents to read next, we’ve got another Bored Panda piece that you’re going to love right here.

My phone broke last year and my messages and texts didn't transfer to the new model. I lost the last message my mom ever left me, and cried so hard about it!

I love my Dad, and I know he loves me. But, sadly, we've never said it to each other. It could be because we never had an intimate relationship, or it could be a 'man' thing. I don't know.

I think I am overthinking this way to much. But I think this means he is lonely or sad? I don’t know, but what I do know is that you should get the chance to spend time with him and get to say I love you in person instead of him having to listen to it on the phone over a recording

That's not it. He loves to hear his little girl say " I love you" at the touch of a button. Simply because it makes him smile.

I'm with the other commenters on this one. Does your dad need another adult child (38F) for those of us who weren't lucky enough to have this kind of unconditional love? We'd be the best adopted panda kids ever!

View more comments

Everyone deserves to have wonderful, loving parents, but some people just really hit the jackpot with parents who would move mountains for them. Whether their kids are four years old or forty, there are dozens of examples on this list of moms and dads who have made it clear that they put their kids first. And those wholesome moments will likely be remembered for the rest of their children’s lives. We may not always realize how much our parents do for us when we’re young, but especially once we grow up, we realize how many sacrifices they've made for us.

And having great parents does not only benefit us when we’re under their care, it has lasting impacts for the rest of our lives. In fact, when kids feel like they receive unconditional love and affection from their parents, they tend to grow up happier and less anxious. Receiving affection as a child can also protect individuals from everyday stresses. Essentially, when parents communicate well with their little ones, the kids grow up equipped to handle communication in their future relationships in a healthy way.

    Bro Passed Cum Laude

    Bro Passed Cum Laude

    AyAan2022 Report

At the same time, it’s very easy for parents to have a negative impact on their children’s lives too. For example, if a kid doesn’t receive enough attention or love from their parents, they will grow up seeking or demanding attention from other sources. This could include acting out in school or constantly vying for attention from a romantic partner when they’re a bit older. Psychologists believe that emotionally distant moms and dads tend to raise kids with lower self-esteem who may be more aggressive and less social as well. The effects of being neglected as a kid don’t simply vanish when someone becomes an adult; there can be life-long repercussions.

That’s why the parents on this list deserve “Mom/Dad of the Year” awards. It may seem simple to keep kids clothed, bathed and fed, but providing the emotional support necessary for them to grow into healthy, stable individuals requires a lot of effort. Of course, time is not a privilege all parents have, if they’re in a situation where they have to work constantly to make ends meet. But when they do find the time for wholesome moments like those featured on this list, their kids will never forget them.

"My Dad is technically my step Dad. He married my mom when I was 10, a couple years after my biological father was killed. He never had his own kids. He sacrificed that, to take care of myself, my big brother, and my mom. I gave that poor man absolute hell. He never gave up on me. He has loved my boys like they're his own. He's been there for every struggle, he's been there for every win. He accepted my boyfriend with open arms, 13 years ago, and was crying tears of happiness when he gave me away to him 12 years later. My husband was abandoned when he was 3, and raised by foster families until he was adopted by a single mom (she passed away in 2012). He never went fishing until my dad took him, he never fixed a car, learned how to BBQ, and so much more. My Dad loves him like he loves me. Probably more. Dad found out that Hubby had never been on a father son, rustic campout. Hubby has always talked about how he looks forward to our son being old enough, and my Dad heard him."

It's more than that: he could say he supports him but his son may still doubt he wasn't sincere or that he hates him because he was scared to tell him or anyway it's a stressful situation; in this way he can show full and true support even before they start talking

My friend moved in with my family on his 18th birthday when his parents chucked him out for coming out as gay. Lived with us for 18 months to finish school and save up to go to uni. He's done so well for himself and im lucky I've got amazing parents who not only loved my sister and I, but also adopted my friend. They've been adoptive parents to a few of my friends over the years whose real parents aren't loving and it makes me thankful that I have amazing parents but also sad that so many people don't

Don't get me wrong. This is a very nice story, but...also sad. That young people are scared to tell their parent they are gay because some parents don't "accept" it. We are in 2022, when are parents,/people in general gonna accept that being diffrent is okey? As long as we all are nice to each other it should not matter what kind of people you are attracted to. Let people love who they want without all the judge and "not accepting" things please. We are all humans and deserve to be happy, and the inside matters most. Be kind💖

Being scared to come out can be a part of the process. When I was a teen and I discovered being gay, I rationally knew that my parents wouldn't have any problems with it. I mean, one of my uncles was gay, and that was never a thing. But I still found it hard to tell them I was gay. I think it might be because I was also still trying to accept it myself. You know, being different as a teen is not easy.

A great thing about the parents on this list is that they are likely shaping children and grandchildren who will continue to be wonderful parents. As humans, we learn by example, and if we see healthy relationships, we’re going to know how to repeat those healthy habits. According to clinical psychologist Dr. Rebecca Bergen, “Our parents' relationship is our first and most influential example of how to interact and communicate in a romantic relationship. How love was shown between parents is influential on the child." She explains that people who never saw their parents show affection might be uncomfortable with it when they start forming their own romantic relationships. On the other hand, if your parents gave you a lot of physical affection when you were young, you might innately know how to show that to your partners as well.

Dr. Bergen explained in an article for Brides.com that as kids, we learn essentially everything for our parents, so the behavior we see them model affects essentially every aspect of our lives. When we begin dating, we tend to mimic behaviors we’ve observed in our parent of the same sex and project thoughts about our opposite-sex parent onto our partners. Dr. Bergen notes that this can work in the opposite way as well. For example, a straight girl might not seek out a boyfriend who is exactly like her dad, but if she had a cold and emotionally unavailable father, she might purposefully seek out someone who isn’t like him. There’s no question that having great examples of parents helps individuals cultivate their own healthy relationships.

Yup you most definitely did! My husband didn’t have a dad around to teach him how to build and stuff like that, and his mum worked almost every second of every day. So he didn’t have any teachers around to teach him things like building or being a handyman. One day the kids came up to him and told him about their friends treehouse, and how it looked like the one we had in ours (it was really big). He literally took two weekends off work to watch videos on how to build a treehouse and built one with our girls. It was such a precious moment.

Lol Two stories abt my dad: he could never do ponytails on me and my sister till one day he saw this hack where you suck the hair up the vaccum tube and put a hair tie on the end of the tube, the slide it onto the hair lol. Story Two: my dad has always had short hair but is growing it out now and he doesn’t know what to do with it or how to style it cuz he’s never had long hair before and so sometimes he’ll just shake his head around and let his hair bounce and he’ll jsut say you know I’ve never had long hair before it’s fun.

My dad was the one that came on school camps with me, and he braided my hair when i wore it in braids. One camp he did one braid and a classmate did another and i was lopsided cause he braided over and my classmate braided under XD

Having involved parents can also benefit us when it comes to education as well. One 20-year-long study found that when parents make an effort to teach their kids social skills while they’re young, those kids grow up to be more likely to have a college degree and a full-time job by the time they’re 25. And if your parents made you do chores as a child? They were just looking out for your future career, as those who grew up having to help around the house tend to take on more responsibility at work, according to Julie Lythcott-Haims. Author of the book How to Raise an Adult, Lythcott-Haims told Business Insider, “By making them do chores — taking out the garbage, doing their own laundry — they realize, 'I have to do the work of life in order to be part of life. It's not just about me and what I need in this moment, but that I'm part of an ecosystem. I'm part of a family. I'm part of a workplace."

Like they said in Harry Potter...."It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." Many people say it's brave to try new things...but it's even more courageous to admit when you aren't ready yet. My boss said the thing she admired most about me is that I was truthful about my limitations instead of staying quiet and being overwhelmed. It let her know that I was serious about learning, but I was letting her know when and at what pace I wanted to learn so I could get the most out of what she was teaching me. You have the right to say "no" or "not now" until the time you are ready to say "ok..let's do this!"

I used to be the parent that would occasionally lose their s**t and shout ugly things at my eldest child, when things like this happened. One day I realised how wrong it was, and also why I was acting the way I was. I had a long talk with my child about how I responded to her was wrong, and I have to say, not freaking out over little things not only makes me a much more pleasant parent, but in itself it makes me a lot more patient. And the way her confidence grew will make me regret my ill temper forever.

When I taught Elementary Art I saw everyone in the building PreK-6. I let them know on day one they would not get in trouble for spilling things or making a mess. They were kids. Accidents happen. All I ask is they help me clean it up. And to clean up their area as they finish each step. Don't wait until the end of class as it will be too big of a mess to straighten up in the 5 minute clean up and put away time. I started this early in my tenure when I saw kids shaking they were so scared after dropping something on the floor.

I remember years ago I'd been told to make chips and fried egg for dinner, I was 7 and did most of everything but I didn't have enough money to buy the eggs so I bought a leek instead and made potato and leek soup for dinner instead. She got so mad she picked up her bowl and threw it, hitting me on my throat. Many years later with my kids and grandkids I always say that when they have an accident, drop something, don't worry, it'll be fine. No matter what I'll never treat them the way she did to me

My gosh, I just remembered something. I was in school, around eight years old. A kid my age spilled something all over the table at lunch. He started crying hysterically. I remember thinking it was kind of strange at the time that he got so upset. The teachers looked surprised as well. I wonder if his parents yelled at him when he did something like that at home.

One mother's day, when I was 8 or 9, I made Mom breakfast in bed. I fried bacon and an egg, made toast, and a bowl of cereal. I put everything on a cookie sheet and oh so carefully carried it upstairs. There were 16 steps. On 15, everything slid off the cookie sheet onto the carpet. Mom calmly cleaned up the mess, came downstairs with me, and let me make her a new breakfast. She ate every bite.

In a piece Whizy Kim wrote for Refinery 29 titled “The Life-Changing Magic Of Having ‘Good Parents’”, she consulted psychotherapist Dr. Dana Dorfman to discuss what good parenting feels like for children. “Almost through the cells of their body, they're taking in the experience of being loved, being appreciated, of being nurtured, of being supported, of being soothed,” she said. We all know children are like sponges, and they will soak up love and affection the same way they soak up knowledge or foreign languages. Dr. Dorfman also mentions the importance of unconditional love, so children never feel like they have to do something to earn or deserve affection. It’s important for them to feel safe and loved just as they are.

Another simple feature of the best parents is ensuring they always acknowledge and respect their children’s emotions. Dr. Dorfman notes that it can be easy to minimize or ignore what our kids are feeling when we’re busy, tired and stressed because they’re “just kids”, right? What do they have to worry about? But it’s important to understand that “to a child, whatever's distressing them is a matter of heaven and earth, and a parent should try to empathize with that”. "I think there's great value to parents being able to give validation or appreciation of the child's inner experience," Dr. Dorman says. "The parent can empathize and appreciate that the child is a separate person."

Pretty sure he does ;) . My partner loved to talk to our son when he was still in my belly. Playing guitare and singing to him. I had an emergency c-section ans he wasn't allow to be with us at the moment. Our son was crying when they took him away from me as they were ending with me. When our little one entered the room where his daddy was waiting, he was still crying at the top of his lungs. My partner just said "is this my son?" and baby stopped crying and turn his head to him. 8years later, he's still moved when he talks about it.

My husband read the last Harry Potter book to our kids when they were in grade school. Our daughter was a little scared to read it after she started it. What's more wonderful is my husband plays D&D so he spoke in different voices for all the characters. I ended up staying in the room to listen too!

🤣 had a similar experience. One child for radiation treatment some years back was so scared to stay alone in the treatment room, so I read Harry Potter to him over the intercom, with different voices etc. So, our crontrol room is connected to the ventilation system and I thought nothing of it, next thing I know, in our control room is not only my coworker, but a medical physicist, a physicist, two radiooncologists and an engineer... 😅 my voice kind of "transported" through the ventilation and since I read the book in English, everyone understood. Somehow I gained an audience for the six weeks, I read to this child. Still have to laugh about it sometimes.

When I was young my family used to go camping - my dad, mom, sister, and me. One time, when i was 7 or 8, we were camping somewhere and it started raining like crazy, so we were trapped inside our tent for the day, or at least a large portion of it. I 'inherited' my mom's love of reading and we all sat in the tent while I read Charlotte's Web to everyone. That was cool, too.

While I was in the hospital for a week with a lumbar drain( had spinal fluid leak after brain surgery) every night I would video call my daughter to read her chicka chicka boom boom before bed because it was her favorite book a year ago. The nurses thought it was adorable and a couple would come in after the 1st couple of nights and listen. I couldnt be there but could still be there and it made her go to bed good for daddy lol

You poor thing. My former co worker wouldn’t let her daughter read them because they are evil. Lol. She did read them, at a friends house. Now, her daughter is grown, married with a child of her own, and rarely even speaks to her mom. I am all for faith, but when it borders on abuse, it is cult behavior. Several incidents, as I’m sure you can all imagine where she took it overboard.

Before we got married, my husband threw a Harry Potter birthday party for his 8 yo daughter (now 19). He has a very analytical mind, and in general doesn’t consider himself to be at all creative, but he made the most beautiful wands for everyone kid who came, and each one was different. He’s such a sweet and dedicated dad.

You are a wonderful parent to do this for her.

On VeryWell Family’s list of “What Makes a Good Parent”, one of their essentials is seeing our kids for who they are. It reminded me how a friend of mine who is a parent once told me that his eight-year-old was already showing distinct signs of his personality when he was about 6-months-old. And that personality has only become stronger over the last eight years, it has not changed. He told me that it’s important to let our kids be themselves, and to guide and teach them of course, but that we should never try to force them into personality traits or interests that just aren’t natural to them. As someone who doesn’t have kids, that was fascinating for me to hear. But one thing I’m sure of is that that father has done many things that would land him on this list of wholesome, loving parents.

I was this kid. Also got caught (6yo) watching a documentary at 6am before school. I was terrified because I wasn't allowed to watch tv before school. Mom just stopped few seconds, and said "oh, documentary. Fine. Keep watching, sweety" and went back to bed. Was stunned for several minutes, processing what just happened 😂 Turns out my mom didn't want me to watch CARTOONS before school 🙃

Eventually I was caught and had stricter rules about how long I could read at night, but I'm totally going to be the kind of parent OP is ;D

When it comes to strengthening your relationship with your children, there are many small things that can be done to increase your bond. As small as it may sound, expressing love more openly can go a long way. Being more vocal about how proud you are of them or leaving them handwritten notes expressing how much you care can be great reminders that they are safe and loved. Quality time is awesome, but quantity time is important too. Doing simple things like enjoying meals together or hanging out in the same room as you read or watch a movie can help your kids feel closer to you. And don’t forget how much asking them about their day and genuinely listening to them can do as well. Showing curiosity in their lives and validating their feelings will make them want to open up to you more as well.

I wanna hack the world computer system and put this on every device in the world. But I can’t. This is so sad but true. When I was a kid I told my friends who I invited to my party who else is coming. When I told them my preschool friend they were like her name sounds annoying and said,”we won’t come unless you don’t invite her.”anyways the party was 2 days before my birthday. So, I invited my preschool friend on my actual day.

I think it is always not fair to say only Humans can consume food. Food by nature is never wasted. What we call as waste is actually being consumed by millions of microbes but yes...it is good to keep in mind that there are hungry people around. Appriciate for your kind heart.

My son started special ed class in a room with 7 other autistic boys, three of whom were triplets, all non-verbal. As I dropped my son off one morning, the special needs bus arrived. The TA started hopping up and down in place. I thought she was just warming up. But the first triplet gets off the bus and starts hopping. Then the second. I finally realized it was her way of saying "Hello" to them. One looks over at me..and my son and I started hopping. He smiled.

This feeling here is why a lot of younger people have issues with getting into the workforce and staying there. Remember kiddos, just because you don't change the world doesn't mean you don't make it a better place. There's a saying: "Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person." Just be you, and the changes will hopefully cause a big ripple. If not, maybe you saved that one person, even with something as simple as a hello.

Dad Overhears His Son's Plan To Come Out The Next Day And Leaves Him A Letter

Dad Overhears His Son's Plan To Come Out The Next Day And Leaves Him A Letter

Nate, I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I've known you were gay since you were six. I've loved you since you were born.
    Dad
P.S. Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.

Genuine question, how would the dad have known that since the kid was six? Six years old seems waaayyy too young to be thinking about relationships. And relationships is really the only difference between gay people and others, right? What gives?

You guys, this is my dad. He drove to my workplace and waited for me to arrive so he could pour a trail of salt from my vehicle to the front door of my building. Just because I, his 38-year-old daughter, wouldn't slip and fall on the ice. My heart, you all. Love you, daddy.

Plane story for this thread. When we were in the air we hit turbulence when this little girl was walking down the aisle back to her seat. She flew and hit a seat. Two dads grabbed her and held her against their seats so she wouldn’t keep falling. Then a mother grabbed the kid and held her until she could return to her mother. It was really whomesome.

I just realized (through a post here on boredpanda of course ;) ) just how much my mom loves me. It was about a woman talking to her dad about how much she loves her little daughter and then realizing, that her dad may feel the same about her.
