If not for the three grey hairs peeking out, I’d feel as fresh as new. It seems like only yesterday we’d drink Capri Sun, burn CDs and listen to the Smashing Pumpkins. Speaking of the latter, kids these days call it “dad rock,” and how can you blame them?

The oldest of Gen Z, aka the newest generation that was born between 1997 and 2012, is now 24. No, it’s not you who are 24, it’s the kids who have no clue what “pick up the phone'' means.

So today, we’re diving deep into the world of no illusion, ready to face one fact we all dread (hence the booming skincare industry among millennials!)—we are old. Thanks to the corner of Reddit ‘Heck I’m Old,’ we have a collection of posts to make you feel not just old, but rather ancient. “When you look at kids nowadays and see their music you can't help but think of how everything is old,” says the group’s description and from what you see below, they ain’t lying.

Zoom Meetings!

Zoom Meetings!

mark30322 Report

If you ever feel like time is passing at the pace of a hadron collider, you can be sure you’re not the only one. Most of us feel that the passage of time is inevitable, and that it only makes us older (but also wiser, more confident and happy overall!).

Having said that, it's no secret that our modern society is obsessed with freezing and even turning back time. This ageing paranoia that’s sweeping across our society has been heavily fueled by social media, where young folks constantly put pressure on achievements, looks, and everything, really. Its competitive nature shows that someone is doing better and has accomplished more by your age than you have.

Being scared of ageing is not only nothing new, it seems like it creeps into the minds of younger generations obsessed with anti-ageing life choices earlier than ever in history. In 2018, a report from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) found that millennials felt the most negatively towards ageing, viewing it as a steep decline and assuming dementia and loneliness as inevitable.

In some extreme cases where fear of getting older interferes with your life, doctors diagnose people with gerascophobia. “Gerascophobia sufferers have very frequent thoughts about changes in their appearance due to ageing and increasingly losing control over their life as they get older. These thoughts trigger panic attacks, shortness of breath, sweating and shaking," Dr. Rose Aghdami, a consulting and coaching psychologist, told Refinery29.

"Their behavior is affected too, as they often avoid certain activities which remind them of ageing, withdraw from social contact, and become more isolated."

The RSPH has also urged people to stop using the term 'anti-ageing' popularized by the beauty industry, since it could be putting pressure on women to see ageing as something inherently detrimental. Another 2017 study found that 30% of women under 35 were regularly using anti-wrinkle products, a fact that’s so obvious when browsing through social media that you don’t need a survey for it

...which leads to the "early adopter problem": We do not only like technology, but, other than most millenials, actually still like to know HOW it works internally, as this was needed in the earlier days to operate it. So you often buy something that hits the market in an early stage and needs to be configured or adapted. Then you refuse to replace it because it still works or can be made to work, leading to a house full of fully operational but deprecated equipment. Why a smart TV as long as you can stream via chromecast? Why a new phone when you have painfully upgraded and cracked the the old one to make it run the apps you use? Your trustworty Raspberry Pi has controlled your vacuum cleaner and heating long before smart home became a thing, so why upgrade to google assistant? I know many "Generation X" friends that have the same problem. The curse of the "Anadigi", of those who had the unfortune to witness the change from analogue to digital.

I'm a Boomer, age 61, but I never had or have a problem with technology. I get mad because I think it's totally lame for 2022 and believe we should and could be using much more advanced technology. Eff the globalist elites for keeping it from us! When I was a kid in the 70's, I was told I'd be commuting to work in a flying car using reverse polarity gravitational thrust propulsion by the year 2000. No fuel necessary. So wtf, lames!!

I'm a boomer and I adapt to new technology much better than all the Gen Xers who are doing the hiring now seem to think. Thanks for years and years of gig work with no benefits and no retirement, in which I mastered at least 25 different software programs, but you won't give me a real job because you think all I can handle is a "Grand-pad".

I am a boomer and I love technology. I remember using Mobius and the joy of Netscape. At 65 I know how to use and implement my technology. Most teachers were introduced early to tech so we could teach it to our students. Stereotypes limit you. Assume nothing about people.

Very relatable. But boomers don't always get angry about new technologies. On the contrary, many of them are over enthusiastic about them - can't say whether it is sincere or they just want to look and feel younger doing so, while younger generations are rather skeptical or even critical towards the technological rush the entire society is in now. I've seen so many boomers, and by that I mean persons with money and power, completely committed and addicted to technology, and not caring at all about pollution, mass surveillance and other forms of dystopian perspectives, as long as it serves their lazy, greedy, selfish way of life... I kind of see technology as an old people's thing now.

Difference between a boomer and all the other post boomer generations which had to have names attached to their generation because boomers did… NEWSFLASH - Boomers as a whole do not have a single mindedness, nor do they respond like an ant colony of single moodiness.
