Many people and businesses hate the term "influencer." Especially those individuals who attach it to themselves and start demanding rather than negotiating. However, the growth of influencer marketing often means they're still getting offers they do not want. To deter them away, people have begun to voice their disapproval both online and in real life. Whether it's a humorous post on Facebook or a stingy sign next to their establishment, one thing is clear: influencers have to adapt their strategies and communication methods in order not to lose potential customers.

This Artist Greets All Influencers With An Offer
That's how it should be. A value for value exchange. The influencer promotes FIRST, then receives the benefit of providing value for whom they've promoted.
Any self absorbed idiot can be an influencer. Sorry people, that's not a real job.
Some people think they are entitled to live a free life. Like, wth?
Nice life if you can get it, I guess. Reminds me of the old-time snake-oil salesmen--although even they worked harder than an 'influencer'.
Load More Replies...I can believe it, I have a Facebook group and when people join just to post 'ads', I suggest that they first post a link to the group/other on their page and then ...they can post their 'ad' to my group. They also never take it up. They always want something for nothing. And that offer i only made to those with 'ads' that are less spammy and relevant to the group.
Influencer Tries To Get Accommodation For Free, They End Up Banning All Bloggers From Their Business
The entitlement of some people still baffles me, I would never dare to ask anything for free, unless I was dirt poor and going to the soup kitchen or something
Can anyone tell me please if an influencer is a real job? She wrote she works as a SM influencer, I wonder what this job is about? Does she get money for doing nothing except posting something on social media? Does she get paid for that? By who? I don't get the whole thing. I always see/hear influencer, influencer but I still don't know what it is.
Load More Replies...If I'm ever in Dublin, I will now hunt down this establishment to support them because of the backlash they received. These influencers are becoming a plague about social media and their followers writing negative reviews because their poor influencer hasn't received a free holiday is sickening and disgusting. Influencers need to realise that just by having lots of 'followers' they don't get to write to places and demand free stuff and to throw a hissy fit when that demand is denied. It's super easy in 2019 to get thousands of followers and sadly this has in turn given certain people the power trip of thinking they can use it to never pay for stuff again. I wish it would just stop!
Trust me when I say that Paul Stenson is not bothered by the backlash at all, its all getting his businesa noticed in a good way. check out his fb page for the cafe https://www.facebook.com/WhiteMooseCafe/.

First off, I don't think Orlando needs help getting consumers-been doing it WAAAY before her 20-something YO behind came along. And Second, most of the people who follow are kids at that age or below. They don't have the moolah to travel to Dublin-heck I barely do-mainly cause I work and and have a family. I know my 30-something YO behind is not going to go off what a youngin' (whom I don't know) has to say.
I was going to say the same thing. I highly doubt Universal Studios Orlando said, "Please mention us on Instagram. We need you to let people know we exist!"

There are losers and winners. Losing allows you to see where you need to work harder, to be better! Not everyone deserves a trophy! It just encourages that sense of entitlement and not working for what you wasn't, and to earn what you've worked hard for!
You get a standing ovation!!! You are very correct on this!!!

How dare they? I am not one but I am guessing ice cream vendors are not exactly upper class... How could they even think about asking Joe for 2 days worth of material, time and profit?? Damn, those people are greedy!
I’m a chef, so when I did certain events I would ask the vendors that I worked with to set up a booth with merchandise and pamphlets. I would pay for a couple cases and they would have to bring the rest. Why is there no give and take other than supposed exposure?
I feel like nobody would even care about their social media posts since this happens so often
Sick And Tired Of Influencers This Ice Cream Place Introduces A Special Offer
I love this on so many levels, so sick of being looked at like a scum because social media is not my life, I dip my toe and go. Influencer Claims Their Work Is Very Hard, Gets Shut Down
Lots of work doesn't mean that they aren't insufferable. Also, the term "influencer" makes me cringe. But at the same time, I'd like to get $500k for a single social media post.
How many really get that sort of bank though? Very very few, I'm guessing.

Load More Replies...Sooooo...because you have to create fakery (such as manipulating an image to look like something it isn't) or eating food cold (which we all have to do sooner or later and you do by choice), you feel you are entitled to free things? Get real. If you were a real business person, you would take some of these businesses you offer collaborations to up on their offers such as a refunded outfit if the discount code they offer to provide you is used x number of times. It's called long-term investment. You don't get instant gratification. But, if your business model is working, then you would still get your gratification.
I mean, most influencers out there these days seem to do nothing but show off their wealthy lifestyles and post it as their actual content, so I dunno what they even " influence " anymore.
Poor baby has to eat cold food. I worked in a restaurant once, where I dropped of the food. She literally to pictures of her food for 10 minutes, posted on all the stupid sites, then said her food was cold. My manager watched her do all of this. He said word for word: "maybe next time eat the food as soon as it is delivered instead of taking pictures of it. He advised her that he would not remake the dish but will pop it in the microwave. She wasn't happy.. I thought it was great, and made my night!
omg they work soooooo hard when all they do is take pictures and get he privilege to BE in a nice hotel! While the rest of humanity is actually trying to do something meaningful in their life by WORKING!!!! ''poor baby!'' you sound like a spoiled little child >:/
It -is- a lot of work, no doubt. But it's also a position reserved for the ultra-privileged, and is based on some extremely toxic ideas.
I'm sure there is a lot of work involved in being an influencer. But why should that entitle them to things where other professionals would pay? (e.g I've never heard a doctor say "can I have a free pizza? I save lives".)
I have a friend who has an Instagram account targeted to working moms. She has no dreams of being an influencer nor does she have a lot of followers but she likes to share her life and struggles in this format. When she first started she asked me to be a joint-instagramer with her and I quit after less than a week because it was honestly such a pain in the a*s. Trying to come up with content on a daily basis, editing the photos just so, writing the captions, trying to find situations and places to take the photos, getting the kids to cooperate, trying to increase followers by interacting with other users...I had no idea what I was getting myself into and it was my own personal hell. I do believe it can be hard work to be an "influencer" but it is so strange to me that for those who do work hard to cultivate these picture perfect lives, are spending so much time glued to their phones that they aren't even living them.

Influencer Asks To Provided Food For 300-320 Guests For Free
Even I can feel the bruning insult at the suggestion to deliver tons of excellent food that was produced with much work and love, just to have it thrown away.
Exactly! If influencers want some food to look good, get a huge stack of styrofoam boxes, spread shaving cream like frosting on it, and throw on random flowers and surround it with lamps to get good lighting THERE U GO Edit: the quality of that "cake" reflects influencers "job" quality

The "you must be new to the game" part. Nope. If a company needs an influencer, they will be the ones to either seek out for these individuals and offer them a contract, or they will publish an announcement and pick from the best resumés. Yep, that's how it works. I know because my company works with influencers as well. They are hired PR people doing actual work. It might be fun, but it's work.
"Send me free stuff", "Umm honey", using then instead of than, 1k followers, Skeletor pic in profile, :F**k you"... I bet he's a Nigerian prince too.

And you have your own website and Instagram coverage! Where do these people come from? They're stupid not to realise that every business does exactly what these predators are offering.
Yawn, too wordy for a point that can be said in a couple of sentences.
Oh, come my way, sweetie. You can start your fitness routine by bending over and cleaning the yard after the dog. Then you can move your body in different ways by cleaning my house. You'll get your 'fitness', and I have to pay someone to do that anyway!

Clothing Designer Is Surprised With Influencer's 'Great' Offer
When you have only 8k followers, you have no right asking for something for free and should just gratefully accept it if some company does want to work with you. Sure it's different when you have a million followers and an ad would reach a large number of people, but with 8k it's not worth it for any company
No matter how many followers one has. Asking for free stuff doesn't sound right imo.
Load More Replies..."I'm an influencer from Nigeria and I'll make you famous if you send me a check for...."
No one should ask for free stuff, no matter how many followers you have, If you have thousands of millions of followers, deals and promotions will come to you, there's no need for influencers or content creators to go and ask for free stuff in exchange of anything, If a business needs exposure or advertising they'll look the best way to do that, it is really not that hard if they have a quality product or service, obviously, when an "influencer" ask or offers promotion to a business, it does not look good, I don't see any big creators sending emails about offering promotion in exchange of free stuff, because is the other way around, apps, web pages, businesses in general look for big names to get promoted.
I dont know what makes me more sad, millennials thinking any of this matters.. or the fact having 8,000 isn't alot apparently... even though it is alot... anything over a couple 100 is alot, you are all insane.
Holy c**p, the audacity!!! The shirt option was A GREAT OFFER, but what the "influencer" asked for... conceited and ridiculous. Why? Just why?
Yelper Is Mad Because Restaurant Didn't Them Free Meal In Exchange For Potential Ig Exposure
The level of self-absorbent attitude is so incredible with these people. I almost have a sort of grudging respect for the kind of chutzpah that it requires to make these sort of requests.
The sick part is, they actually LOVED their food, but gave it 1 star because they didn't agree to social media coverage
FYI, in restaurants, is customary for a manager/owner to come out and greet customers and to ask them about their experience. She didn't do it special for her for I have had owners come to me when I'm eating in their establishment to ask me how things are. This is so silly. Pay for the labor you are receiving. People work very hard to perfect their crafts-if anything they need more compensation (tips) not paying their patron.
Aren’t customers people who *pay* for their meals? (Re: that last line, “The manager needs to understand how to treat customers.”)
"It was some of the best Italian food I've had." Yeah, that review will really stick it to them...??
This is the best one star post I have ever seen! I recommend posting it outside the restaurant, because then everyone will know how wonderful the food is and it will keep away the buzzards at the same time!
The food and drinks were great, but because you wouldn't give me something discounted, I'm gonna make you look bad! Seems if she really wanted to give them a bad review, she shouldn't have remarked how good everything is.
Yeah I Need Exposure, But Not This Way, Also I Think The Amount Of Emojis He Used Is Scary
This sounds like some fort of scam more than a legit influencer (if there is such a thing). The grammatical errors and how the sender is trying to create a sense of urgency regarding the money being sent smacks of scam. Plus, it's not audacious enough to be a real thing. $10 is enough to make a quick scam worth your time but not enough that it'll be too hard to get people to pay.
I think it just shows that there is no such thing as a legit influencer. It's all BS.

See, that is a relatively polite exchange. (the winery could have skipped that sentence abotu better ways to make a living, though). When I was still shooting student films, I often called rental companies for reduced prices. If somebody says yes, super, if they say No, also fine. It might have gone overboard in the last decade but generally it is not that unusual to ask for sponsorship or freebies. It really helps if both sides stay civil.
There is a difference between "reduced" and "free". I think if she had asked for that, she would have gotten a nicer answer.

Just last week I witnessed an 'influencer' get blasted at our favorite Italian restaurant. This place is always busy, packed with the line out the door. The girl in front of me wanted to speak to the owner (he's also the head chef). This guy is old-school Italian, and doesn't play around. She tells him she's an influencer, and wants a 'sample of everything ' . He directed her to the girl taking orders. No, she wanted it comped for a review. He yelled, "How's everyone enjoying your meals?" Cheers . "That's all the reviews I need". I thoroughly enjoyed watching her stand there looking like she got slapped in the face.
If you want to shame those parasites you shouldn't blur their names. They have made themsleves known as "Influenza" so let them face the consequences of their entitlement.

As a graphic designer I get asked to do free or deeply discounted work regularly. If I won't do it for the average Joe, who doesn't make much money, I'm sure as hell not going to do it for someone who chooses not to work and is only exchanging services with a post (that might only be up for an hour or two??). My time, equipment and needs are too important to just give away free to just anyone who asks. That being said I won't get rude with someone who does ask. That's equally as wrong. But when someone simply tells you no, they can't, don't go into a tizzy because you think you are entitled. I assure you, you're not.
I’m sorry. I don’t get the “influencer” thing. Who exactly are these people? And who are they influencing? Why do they feel entitled to free goods & services? I noticed that most of the “influencers” got really nasty when businesses politely told them that they need to be paid for their time/products. Can there be that many entitled narcissistic a-holes out there? Haven’t these people ever heard the word NO before?

Each and every post I wanted to comment "Wow...WTF?" I would have to type it out a lot so I decided to just say it here instead lol
