I've always wondered, though. How do they get milk out of almonds, coconuts and soy beans? (Here in Hong Kong soy milk in plastic bottles are as common of a drink as coke, maybe more, and I don't even know where they get it from.)

I'm pretty sure they mean like "vegan meals". If someone says "I've never had Chinese food", you don't go like "You've never had RICE!?"

I thought vegan was too hard for me. Then I realized sugar is vegan. nomnomnom.

Here's the thing though, we're not going to give up meat because we had one vegan dish.

If you do not find something tasty at a good vegan restaurant, you seriously have issues. Besides, pretty much the whole indian cuisine can be prepared in a vegan way, and there are countless delicious options.

What troubles me more is that the woman in the back is chocked...

I told my mother-in-law the new vegan dish I created and she just rolled her eyes. When I asked what that was about, she responded with a joke about how there was no meat in it, how could it possibly taste good. That's when I dropped the bombshell of the Chocolate Latte Cake I made for Christmas that she scarfed down...totally vegan..and Gluten Free. "Did it taste good?" She got quiet. I told her "We aren't doing vegan for the sake of the animals. We are doing it because our health was so bad, we needed a different way to eat so we wouldn't die. Do you think that's funny?" She apologized. After that..she gave us nothing but support and even started learning how to cook vegan.

When you're on a special diet (and vegan is a special diet), you should check beforehand if the restaurant can accommodate you.

I think this picture illustrates many of the misunderstanding between vegans and the non-vegans. Vegan food is more than a meat-dish bereaved of animal products. Anyone claiming that vegan food cannot be tasty and healthy (regardless of continuing to eat meat or not) either has not experiences well-prepared vegan food or is simply closed-minded.

Easy explanation, chickens, pigs, cows etc are raised for the purpose of being eaten. Cats and dogs aren't (in most parts of the world).

What does that have to do with being vegan?

I'm a vegetarian with known food allergies to nuts and several types of bean. If I had a dollar for every time a vegan purposely added allergens to my food, I wouldn't need to get generic epipens.

Same for people with allergies, only they might really have a problem if they forget. Trust me on this.
