We've all been there. The meticulously planned holiday that suddenly goes wrong in every way possible. A delayed flight causing a mishap of scheduling problems, the unsettling realization that your luggage might be touring a completely different continent somewhere around the world, or that memorable moment when the 'cozy beachfront accommodation' you booked turned out to be a scam on Airbnb. However, these vacation fails, while frustrating at the time, often turn into the funniest stories in our ‘inventory’.

After all, it's not just the picture-perfect sunsets and good food that make a trip memorable. Sometimes, it's the unplanned detours and unexpected misadventures as some would describe them as 'fails' that end up defining our personal travel experiences, reminding us of the unpredictability of life!

he was most likely lazy, not thirsty. Animals in touristic areas are smart and know that tourists are quick acces to food and water.

"A large storm rolled through in the early morning hours and the cabin took a bolt of lightning to the service mast. Flames shot out of the outlets and the entire electrical system caught on fire immediately. Thankfully everyone was already awake from the thunder and was able to evacuate. The VFD and heavy rains kept the fire from spreading so no other residences were damaged."

Omg this is bad, when I stayed in kakadu, the amount of hilarious idiots who would come up from Melbourne and be ‘too hot’ so they’d take off their shirts and no buy sunscreen, and I’d tell them, cos I don’t burn myself typically, “put a shirt on, you’re pale skin is going to fry here”, they all either laugh it off or try to ignore me cos , what would I know. The come back hours later like this. I don’t burn but I got sunburnt the first day I arrived in kakadu 😆 cover TF up

In all fairness, it is becoming less and less frequent and this picture cannot be recent in 99% of the world for technical reason. The logistical chain has completely changed over time and lost luggages are an exceptional event (the main reason being theft). Luggages sent to the wrong airport is close to non existent. The worst you may have to deal with is waiting for the next flight to your destination if somehow your luggage missed your flight (short stopover..). And it will be delivered to you by the airline where you’re staying (iata rules).

I have personally seen an item of luggage fall off the back of a cart on its way to the plane. Fortunately, it was spotted and loaded. Also fortunately, the breakable souvenirs weren't packed into my dad's bag, because they probably would have been broken from the fall...

On our last cruise leaving from Rotterdam, we flew to Minneapolis and supposed to fly to Amsterdam. Flight cancellation (7), ended up finally getting to Amsterdam the day of sailing. But my suitcase was still in Minneapolis. Took 7 days to get it.

For people wondering about why they did it despite the fog, the original reddit post explains it was pre-booked. I'm personally jealous because the one time I got to go there, our tour company skipped it because of the fog - as if it wasn't still a place to explore and experience while we were there!

That happened to me. I had to tie them to my feet with my shoe laces and try not to trip over the front of the sole flapping with each step. Fortunately I was only about half an hour from home, but still!! My mum gave me here boots as she never used them, and same thing happened!! Apparently the soles on walking boots perish after a few years!!!

Not as dramatic as loosing your sole but I suffered a lot during the next days on my hike. Luckily, a sherpa gifted me one of their straps which the tie around their forehead. Worked like a charm.

Last year, my son made his first fishing trip to Canada and then on to Alaska - a week in each place. He accidently dropped his phone in a Canadian Lake. His heart sank to the bottom as fast as his phone did. All the photos from the first half of his trip were gone. 😔 He was able to get a new phone by the time he got to Alaska, so at least he has those photos.

I once vacationed at the beach, when I making the reservations I asked for a room facing the ocean. They said they had a room available and that it also looked over the golf course. Get to my room and had to press my face against the window to get a view of the beach, I could see just a tiny sliver of it. And the golf course view? It was a Mickey Mouse miniature golf course.

They are horrible! So many accidents in my city - mostly caused by the scooter riders themselves, but still - no one deserves those kind of injuries. I witnessed a fatal fall. Person died from the head injuries within minutes before ambulance could arrive. Even professional first aid couldn’t help. If he had worn a helmet, he most likely would have had minor injuries. So sad.

In the US, you have to put anything liquid inside a zip lock bag, since you aren't allowed to exceed 1 quart / liter of total liquid containers.

Judging by the size of the bottle we can see, I suspect this was part of the checked luggage. The litre/in bag rule for cabin bags applies just about everywhere - the industry standardised.

There is a story written by a driver on the London Underground of a train (his) ending up on the wrong track - signalling/points error he didn't catch - so it does happen. However, I suspect your passenger did the same thing as OP. I'll confess, I once leapt onto a train whose doors were closing, got a round of applause from the gaggle of old ladies in the priority seats, and then had to ask them if I was actually on the train to Glasgow. It would have detracted from the entirely slick entry had I been on the wrong train. (The station in question was close enough that it had a board displaying the platform of the next train going to Glasgow, rather than just relying on the usual departure board. There was a train there when I got to the platform, I jumped. Fortunately correctly. And, given we were so close to Glasgow, I got laughed at by pretty much everyone who heard me ask. I do miss that place.)

Don't know why you got downvoted - it's a very good bit of information to know, and it does make a lot of sense. You see the characters you expect, you get on that train. I am absolutely certain there's a UK equivalent of transposed letters making a complete difference, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is.

Sat down, very happy with my seat. Someone looked at me and told me "you know this is NOT the train to London, right?" OOPS. Luckly i still was able to get out. Feeling very silly.

Near my hometown are very nice spots to go swimming in the local river or for sunbathing. A woman parked her car there, but the brakes didn't work (or she didn't use them) and the car started to roll. The car ended up in the river after rolling over some other woman's legs.

This happens all the time. If they couldn't go a day early to avoid this kind of thing, they could've easily changed their flight to meet the Cruise at the next Port, or any of the Ports on the Cruise's itinerary. This is what happens when you'd rather give up, than make an actual attempt at problem solving. No way this happened to GenXers. This is some Millennial, Gen Z/Y tomfoolery.

Mine at home did this in the middle of the night, scared the bejeezus out of me. That's when I learned glass shower doors can do this without warning as tiny invisible flaws build up over time until the whole thing gives. I took out the remaining door and put in a shower curtain instead!

Plan it out, the travel agencies should tell people about this kind of thing. People, when you encounter this kind of this tell your travel agent; otherwise they think you had a great time. Travel agents need to know about this kind of thing, seriously. Though, a truly great agent should already know.

Yes, that can happen in Ireland. And it can quickly change again. We once took friends up Connor Pass to enjoy the view down upon Dingle. But it was so foggy we couldn't even see the sheep grazing two meters from us. And then, all of a sudden, the fog lifted, the clouds parted and a bright ray of sunshine illuminated Dingle in the distance. Like in a computer game: This is the place you need to go to find the hidden boy hero.

not worth it. There's so many more pieces of art in the Louvre worth seeing tbh, because lets face it..we all know the Mona Lisa, go see it if it's quiet, but otherwise, enjoy the lesser known art and find something new. (or you can go visit L'Orangerie nearby, and view monet's work. Idk how busy it gets there though, because I was lucky that whilst the mona Lisa was packed, L'Orangerie wasn't. and was pretty empty)

The painting on the opposite wall is worth seeing! The Wedding Feast at Cana was stolen from the San Giorgio Monastery in Venice by Napoleon's soldiers during the Italian campaigns of 1792-1802. The painting is so large (6.77 m × 9.94 m) they had to cut it in half to carry it and you can see where it was cut. It's the largest painting in square meters in the Louvre's collection. It's also remarkable for its artistic composition and technique. A fascinating piece of work and most tourists don't even look at it.

Agreed. I was lucky enough to go in my late teens (70s) and it REALLY made an impact on me. Seeing something like the Venus de Milo right in front of you was breathtaking. Ironically, the Mona Lisa was a blip, I barely recall seeing it in passing. Everything else seemed massive compared to such a small painting.

Not necessarily. Labs are very mouthy. Puppies will chew and eat anything that doesn't eat them first. And other dogs will shed more under stress but labs shed *constantly*, all year long.

Yeah not thinking is a curse. Dogs first trip can't be a long drive. Like with all new things puppies need a moment of training that requires your effort to make them feel safe (in car, subway, vet, wherever they feel nervous) 🤔

Too many burns on this post 😢 if this happens rinse the area in cool water for 20 minutes and keep the area moist with a burn gel. Aloe helps a ton too. Aspercream or anything with lidocaine is a lifesaver. Prevention is key! Spf should be a broad spectrum no less than 30. The amount you apply matters. 1/2 tsp for the face, full oz for the body. Reapply every two hours or 60 minutes in water. Wear Spf everyday, not just on vacation. Driving your car or being in front of windows exposes you to the aging rays. Spf not only prevents cancers, but you’ll also age like milk and have a ton of brown spots if you don’t wear it.

One night at a hotel, right after a shower I tried to blow dry my hair a minute in and the power for the entire place goes out. 10 minutes later with the power back on I tried again.... Let's just say, after the 3rd try followed by a hotel blackout, I decided I was stuck going to sleep with wet hair. Coincidentally, no more power outages after that decision. I love the use of the passive voice "My phone fell". Not "I dropped my phone", but "the phone fell", as if it did it voluntarily. (And yes, technically this is not the passive voice, but I forget what it's called)

Sometimes you might be booking your holiday months in advance and finding info on upcoming renovations is hard to find. Also larger cities usually have at least something being renovated at any given time so there's no time when you can see all the sights

These things are old, and in a city with hundreds of old monuments you can guarantee at least a few will be having maintenance at any one point in time. If the purpose of the trip was to specifically see this thing, might have been worth a quick google before booking flights

We went to a little town in Oregon where the family has a cabin and found out that all the gast stations had closed. Forunately we realized this when we still had enough gas to get to the closest town with gas. (To be fair there were only two before and one of those looked like it was closed for renovations.)

Went to Mt Rushmore for night time ceremony. Fogged in 2nd week in September after Labor Day. This year we headed there the last week in August, the ceremony was great, but the view close-up was disappointing with lighting. I preferred a viewing at 4pm. Really wonderful pix. Btw. Even on the north pole the ice is currently cracked and melting. I managed to take some photos from above 89° North elevation a few weeks back. Not a nice summer for polar bears.

Get a big magnet and remove it. Take them with the receipt to another store and they'll remove it. Melt it off (carefully). Wear them anyway and only go into shops that don't sell Levis.

Odds are there is a Macy's within an hour or two from where they live. Take a quick trip over the border, get them to take it off, visit Trader Joes, grab lunch, get cheap liquor at the duty free, and the trip will be worthwhile.
