I knew a women in a wheel chair from visiting a chiropractor. He made tiny error and she was paralyzed. I won’t see one because of it even though I hear people say how good they are. Just can’t.

Chiropractory is quackery. There's no scientific evidence for most of it, and manipulations of the neck are extremely dangerous, they can lead to strokes, paralysis or death. It's much better to visit a physical therapist or just get a massage for back pain.

I noticed my husband doesn't turn his head to check his blind spots when he is driving. He has his mirrors adjusted to see down either side to the lanes around him. I asked why he never turns his head? He said a Chiropractor did that. He hates them. The man adjusted his neck somehow now he can't turn his head like he needs to.

You should see if your state (in America) has a Direct Access law for physical therapy. It means you can see a physical therapist without an order from a doctor (although certain insurances still require one). I've seen so many patients get help with this type of issue and no need to live like that if he doesn't have to!!

Yeah but a lot more people see chiropractors than people that see sharks. It's like saying your more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash, well duh I'm in my car every day I've flown maybe 3 times in my entire life

I don't think you understand statistics. Per mile travelled, planes are much, much safer than cars. After 9/11 there were more excess deaths caused by people swapping plane journeys for (more dangerous) car journeys than people killed in the actual attacks.

You'd have to factor in the number of chiropracters versus the number of doctors for that to be a meaningful comparison.

Y'all will think this is crazy, and maybe it is, but it helped me and I'll take the downvotes; my stepbrother was in chiropractor school and was about to graduate and was eager to try his "skills" out on all of us (family). My husband and I had been trying for a baby for years at this point (I'd been told I couldn't have kids bc I'd had stage one cervical cancer at 19 and they had to take too much of my cervix out, so essentially what we were told is that I could get pregnant but would never carry to term). I'd taken the progesterone meds, the shots, everything you can think of barring IVF. We were at the point of adoption. He told me that they'd learned there was something to be said for proper spinal alignment and getting pregnant. I was skeptical, but I'd tried almost everything by that point, so why not? He did 3 adjustments on me and about a month after our mom died (his real mom, my stepmom) I was pregnant.

Maybe totally not connected, but I was trying so hard to get pregnant before our mom passed away so I could tell her that her daughter was having a baby. But she somehow knew I'd have a boy (told me so before she passed) and I felt like that was just another connection I have to her. My son was 9lbs 7 oz and 23 inches long. Not enough cervix, my a*s!! Whether it was the adjustments or Devine intervention, I don't care bc he's a miracle. Now, I can't have adjustments at all because I have a bone disease along my spine and already have a spinal stimulator around my spine and it's starting to affect my neck as well. Crazy story? Probably. But now I have a weird story to tell at parties

Devil's Advocate here. I've been to chiropractors and only three did anything that helped me. So, I'd say that 3% of them are not quacks. Those who advertise on bus stop benches, the side of a bus or back of the phone book and especially the ones that tell you you will need to come 5 days a week-for life are the losers. I now have spinal stenosis and my "good chiro " won't touch me and said no reputable one should either. Learning to live with chronic pain is an art

Chiros specialising in babies basically just do a gentle massage and press specific points on baby’s body they don’t (or shouldn’t) do anything else . I know a few babies whose life was made considerably better by baby specialised chiropractors who adjusted their little bodies after difficult births.

In many years of law practice handling bodily injury cases, I got to know many chiropractors and observe their results. They ran the gamut from highly effective to awful.Same was true for surgeons. And lawyers. Not so sure sharks offer the same range in their human transactions, but we kill a lot more of them than they do of us.

This is all very scary. I'm lucky I found a good one. The four days after my weekly chiro visit were the only days I could comfortably walk, back when I had a two year long back issue. Apparently there are two kinds of chiros - the ones that just work on back pain, and the ones that say their back manipulations can fix other parts of the body.

A renowned Orthopedic surgeon, in his book , stated, that if you need to see a chiropractor more than 2 or 3 times, he’s not treating the cause, he’s treating the symptoms. You people who have an ongoing weekly, or monthly appointment, just let that sink in !

I knew a lady had a stroke, the chiropractor knew this could be a side effect, but he acted like he had no idea what happened, she was blind on one eye for a while. And yo can't sue them they do not need to carry mal-practice insurance, they technically are not doctors....you can sue them personally, but not he business

My friend worked for a chiropractor who snuck up behind her and cracked her neck. She said "if you'd asked me if I wanted that I'd have said no." He said "that's why I didn't ask." She had neck problems after that. After she quit, a senior lady with a cane worked for him. One day he decided that she was faking a disability so he took her cane away from her. "I THREW IT SO FAR, YOU'LL NEVER FIND IT." He told her proudly. He was arrested for that and was subsequently hospitalized.

I loved my chiropractor and for good reason. He was the first person to correct my scoliosis, show me certain exercises, and gave me pain-free days. But I'd never allow him to adjust my neck. Didn't want to risk paralysis.

A friend's father was a chiropractor. When I was a teenager, my neck used to get stuck in one place so I could not turn it and he used to put it back where it should be. I found out in my 60s through a scan for something else that I had broken my neck falling off a horse all those years ago and that I could have died during any of those sessions. But it did feel good at the time!

Chiropractors are quacks and they don't even have legitimate science behind their practices. Also, you can't really become a DOCTOR of chiropracty. You're just kind of left in the hands of someone with a bachelors degree and a penchant for cracking noises.

I remember a very publicised case in Australia about 5 years ago where a chiropractor killed a baby and it led to the media delving into how many deaths of babies there were each year, let alone adults. I think (not sure if it was enacted) to laws being changed about what age/what reason babies are allowed to see one.

I remember a female patient died due to double treatment in my country. Basically this woman had discomfort on her neck and back pain and had registered a two times a day therapy of 40 therapy sessions with an American chiropractor due to scheduling reasons. It was only her first double therapy that she felt immense pain at night and was brought to hospital. Doctor discovered she had her back of neck swollen, allegedly her blood vessel had popped. It was before MRI scan that she passed out. At 6am she was declared dead, leaving her family distraught of her passing in a short span of day. The investigation became inconclusive because the chiropractor didn't respond to the allegations and was discovered the American had returned to his country and allegedly had no permit for treatment in my country. Hence, the clinic permanently closed across the country.

IMO manual adjustments are too forceful and unnecessary. There are chiropractors that are gentle and do not do manual adjustments. But what I don't understand is that for every chiropractor that does these forceful, loud and painful adjustments, there are all of their patients that think the bigger the pain and pop the better they are and I really don't understand that at all!

I normally go to the chiropractor when my back is hurting....I have a few herniated disks. I've had vertigo three times in the past and the last time I had it it left me with ongoing issues with my balance and some dizziness when I lay down. I went back to my chiropractor because my back was bothering me again and at the end he always cracked my neck. This time when he did it I started to stand and I went down hard on my knees and ended up with very bruised knees and rug burns. It wasn't his fault....but man that was scary. You had to see him face when I just collapsed hard down onto my knees.

On the basis that sharks kill about a dozen people this isn’t significant. Drivers in the uk kill almost 2,000 annually, and seriously injure 60,000. I’m not scared of chiropractors….

Maybe you should read some of the other comments about the very real long-term damage that chiropractic treatment can have. It's not even very effective at relieving conditions over doing absolutely nothing, and it's not based on good science. It's important that people are educated about the risks of chiropractic treatment versus the very limited benefits.

My mother almost died, due to her regular doctor not listening when she told him she was deathly allergic to codeine. He prescribed it anyway, and the chiropractor was the one that noticed she had no perceptible heartbeat and 'didn't look so good' and he kept her from dying, monitoring her in his office for hours, treating her until it was under control and she got to go home. She might be a pain in my a*s, but I'm still grateful that he paid attention in medical school.

To learn more about the topic of frightening facts, we reached out to an expert on all things spooky, Steffany Strange, host of the Something Scary Podcast. Steffany was kind enough to have a chat with us about what she loves most about diving into the world of scary. "I think for most of us we can relate and say scary stories help us tap into the unknown or the supernatural," she told Bored Panda. "But additionally, we as humans have a natural tendency to seek out information in the world/society we live in."

"I love that folklore, scary stories (especially ghost stories) bring in cultural and historical elements to better understand our emotions and the essence of being human," Steffany continued. "This makes me think of my grandfather and aunt telling me Salvadorian ghost stories, and it helped me tap into the unknown elements of the supernatural while understanding my own Salvadorian culture."

“You Are Hearing Dead People Laugh”: 50 Disturbing Facts That May Leave You Feeling Unsettled **Someone you love will probably get dementia, and it will f*****g suck.** The human brain is a machine, and like any machine it inevitably breaks down. Imagine a person you love. Imagine their mind starts dying before their body. They cease to be the person you knew, a little bit at a time. They lose their memories - the cherished and the mundane. Then they start looking at their loved ones in terror because nothing makes sense and everyone seems like a stranger. It's nature at its most cruel. F**k dementia.

My mom had dementia. She started showing signs in her mid Forty's. She still had her personality for the most part. But it took a part of her and she knew it but she didn't know what she lost. It was awful to watch her slowly deteriorated. She died in an accident at 62. I miss her constantly but I'm glad she never forgot who my dad, brother or I was. My grandfather died about a year before and she constantly forgot. I would just talk about him like he was alive. I couldn't stand for see the hurt in her realizing he was gone.

We were also curious what sorts of scary things freak Steffany out the most. "The darkness!" she shared. "Your imagination runs wild when the lights go out, and the darkness creeps in. We hallucinate in pure darkness because our brains are biologically wired to fear darkness, amongst other things our brain just does for survival, which I guess brings me to exorcist movies and topics. I think it hits close to home not being able to have control of one's own body."

And as far as unsettling facts you pandas are likely to never forget, Steffany has informed us that glitter can cut your eyes. "And we have so much glitter in makeup, so I'm always weary even if it is safe," she added.

Ummm. I'm here to add a voice of hope too. There can and is health after mental health breaks and psychotic breaks. And hopelessness (often a symptom/factor chicken/egg mess) that prevents people from ever returning a state of balance is not to be denied by any stretch. But this statement is too black and white and leaves no room for growth or rehabilitation. If we believe that some bodies can be healed from devastating injuries and equilibrium achieved, why not the mind. With enough of the right supports and treatments? Sadly, mostly inaccessible since (at least for most western culture) we treat health (physical and mental) reactionary instead of preventative. And money drives everything. But as someone who's been suicidal, there can be true mental health after if you live long enough to get there.

Fear is survival, and that means coming out more courageous and letting go of unnecessary fears," the host added.

“You Are Hearing Dead People Laugh”: 50 Disturbing Facts That May Leave You Feeling Unsettled Lake Superior has dead bodies from the 1920s. With freezing temperatures and a lack of oxygen, bodies don't decompose at the rate they would under normal conditions. Sure, they don't look as "fresh" as the day they died (in fact they're covered in bodily fat from saponification), but they can be recognized as human remains. In fact, there's been this ongoing debate because of the ship SS Edmund Fitzgerald that sank in the 70s, because scuba divers wanted to explore it but the families of the deceased were upset because this is basically a mass grave. There's a YouTube channel called Ask a Mortician that just did an episode on this, and I really recommend it. She goes a lot more in-depth about the facts, and even went out there to talk with a surviving Fitzgerald relative.

I didn't think anything of it and went to bed. Our kids found him when they got up early to watch TV before school and they woke me up saying daddy was sleeping on the floor. People rarely survive aneurysms and they usually do so by getting immediate medical care. It's a miracle that he survived and is with us today.

Most of the universe is out of our reach. We can only go till the Local Group (the group of galaxies which our galaxy is also part of). It’s impossible to go past the local group into the next group because of how the universe is expanding. There will come a time when the light from other groups beyond ours will be shifted to such long wavelengths that it would be impossible to detect them. Our galaxy will be lonely and any future species won’t be able to figure out how the universe started or how it will end. Our galaxy will slowly grow darker and darker as the last of its stars slowly start dying and fading away

When people are crucified, they rarely die from bleeding out; instead, they die from asphyxiation, or suffocation. The way their bodies are hung makes it almost impossible to breathe unless they physically hold themselves up instead of just hanging there, and after some many hours it gets to be to much, resulting in oxygen deprivation, unconsciousness, and death.

“You Are Hearing Dead People Laugh”: 50 Disturbing Facts That May Leave You Feeling Unsettled Alright I collected some of my favourite scary facts from an app I really like called Thunder Dungeon. They have all types of memes and facts and stuff so it was all written in pictures I had to manually write them down. 1. There's an episode of sesame street that had to be pulled off the air in 76' cause it was so scary, parents complained their children are screaming in horror at the TV. 2. There's a disease nicknamed Ondine's Curse, which causes suffers to die if they fall asleep. 3. On August 26th 1968, every TV in America shut down for 25 seconds, there was a murmuring sound coming from the TV and people reported hearing a demon. 4. In 1994 a man was arrested for dressing as the grim reaper and standing outside old people's homes. 5. It only takes about 7 pounds of pressure to rip off an ear. 6. There is an island in Italy that is supposedly so haunted that the government forbids the public from visiting it. 7. There's a syndrome called Charles Bonnet Syndrome that have been called "a window into a parallel universe". People who has it are prone to seeing bright lights, weird shapes and scary faces. The thing about this syndrome is that all those who suffer from it are almost exclusively blind or vision impaired. 8. When a bear attacks you, he will most likely start eating you alive rather than killing you first. 9. At any possible moment, Earth could be hit be a Gamma Ray Burst which will extinguish most if not all life on the planet. 10. A woman in St.Louis was watching a TV documentary about a serial killer who tortured and killed women, when she realized she was living in his former apartment. 11. There's a Caterpillar so poisonous, just brushing your finger on to it can cause internal bleeding in your brain. 12. In 1942, a man known as the phantom barber would break into people's house while they were sleeping to steal a lock from their hair. He was never identified. 13. There's a fish called a Stone Fish, it's so venomous that if you step on it you could die in 20 minutes. 14. According to a recent study, 1 in 5 CEOs demonstrated psychopathic traits. Another population with similar proportions of psychopaths is the prison population. 15. There was a guy from New York who owned a car with the license plate 5V 1732. He died on May 17, 1932. That's all folks! Edit: fact number three, the time of the shut down was 25 seconds, not minutes.

In addition whenever they become ‘stressed’ by spraying they go dormant. Bedbug eggs are also sticky, so are notorious hitchhikers. Places like behind baseboards, electrical outlets, electronics, inside furniture, crevices in the floors, the places that they can fit into and multiply at an astonishing rate are endless. They are becoming immune to insecticides. A combination of pyrethroids, diatomaceous earth, bagging every and storing outside after laundering, keeping bed legs in containers with baby oil, vacuuming 2/3 hours per day for months might, might with diligence eradicate them. Frying anything that can be fried in the dryer. Beware of scavenging, seal second hand clothes tightly in plastic bags until you can dry them in high heat for 30/35 minutes. Secondhand purchases need to be sealed with clear varnish, steam cleaned or put I to the dryer to kill the eggs, nymphs and adults is critical.

“You Are Hearing Dead People Laugh”: 50 Disturbing Facts That May Leave You Feeling Unsettled You can have a heart attack and die at any second because of a heart problem you never knew about. There's one called Brugada syndrome which has no physical evidence and most people aren't diagnosed with it until they drop down dead and testing is done on immediate family members (it's genetic) and one of THEM is diagnosed with it. Happened to my father. We found out because I'm the one tested who has it, my uncle and brother got the all clear, chances are my grandad has it too (4 heart attacks since he was in his mid 40s)

And that is completely fine. Effective CPR requires very forceful compressions, much more forceful than what you generally see on TV. The compressions also need to be a lot faster. The advice from the NHS (National Health Service in the UK): Place the heel of your hand on the centre of the person's chest, then place the palm of your other hand on top and press down by 5 to 6cm (2 to 2.5 inches) at a steady rate of 100 to 120 compressions a minute. After every 30 chest compressions, give 2 rescue breaths. Remember, it is better to be alive with some broken ribs than to be dead with perfect ribs.

We thought it got stuck on and underwater ledge and couldn't get free causing all the men to starve to death. A few years ago it was learned it imploded for going too deep. They died instantly. It was a nuclear submarine I believe.

“You Are Hearing Dead People Laugh”: 50 Disturbing Facts That May Leave You Feeling Unsettled There is a theory in quantum cosmology. It is the hypothesis that our universe is actually a 'false vacuum', meaning that it isn't in its most stable possible configuration. Think of a ball rolling on a surface having several local minima (dents in the surface) but there is only one global minima (the dent which is the deepest). The ball may be in one of the dents which is not the deepest one. So, it is stable for now, but, given the chance it will slide to the deepest dent, which is the lowest energy configuration possible, the so-called 'true vacuum'. Now the interesting part. If our universe is, indeed, in a false vacuum, due to something called 'quantum tunneling', it may 'tunnel' into the true vacuum, creating a bubble of lower energy. Once this lower energy bubble is formed, it expands, engulfing the entire universe, destroying everything we know as is, and creating new laws of physics. The speed of expanding is the speed of light, so we would have no information whatsoever about it before it hits us. We will literally never see it coming. The really scary and really useless part? There is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Think about it, no matter what scenario you put yourself in, there will always be some sort of counter measure. Let's say you built a concrete room that is 10 inches wide with no doors and windows underground, an earthquake could happen, a sinkhole could open up, a ravine could open up, etc. No matter how safe a situation sounds, it can NEVER be 100% safe. Just because you’re dead, doesn’t mean you immediately stop perceiving stimulations around you. It takes a bit for your brain to die of oxygen deprivation and shut down. So there’s a good chance that when you die that you’re trapped in your body realizing you’re dead with no way to stop it. This fact has been semi-confirmed by people who experience temporary death in hospitals, and recall nurses and doctors rushing around them trying to revive them.

So those people are not dead, they're dying. Dead people don't feel anything. But it's a fact that things that will definitely kill you will take some time to do so, during wich you can still sense what's happening around you. Sad and horrifying fact: you can't donate organs when you're truly biologically dead. As soon as a body is fully dead, all the organs immediately start to break down and cannot be transplanted anymore. That's why the legal definition of 'clinically death' actually means you are dying but not yet fully dead, but it's extremely unlikely to impossible to save your life. And now comes the really scary part: the test they do to find out if you are truly brain dead could kill you if you're not. That's why the doctor's diagnosis must be made beforehand to say that you're brain dead, if the doctor isn't sure, the test cannot be made.

Scientists don’t know what matter is like inside neutron stars, but some theorize it’s a kind of “strange matter” that, if it exists, may turn everything it touches into strange matter. If two neutron stars collide (which does happen) microscopic strange matter particles could fly through space until they eventually reach Earth, at which point the planet and everything on it would turn into strange matter and be destroyed.

The stronger the gravitational field, the longer time is. This said, blackholes have the strongest gravitational pull in existence and as it pulls you apart atom-by-atom time will slow down the closer you get. Because of this, near the center your pain will be limitless and time will practically stop around you as you feel this pain. Just FYI.

The reason why it would get thrown out is because Jupiter is actually tugging on it and making its orbit more elliptical and may eventually get thrown out entirely.

A standard uranium fission reactor loses a significant portion of its energy of fission as neutrino (not to be confused with neutron) radiation that is not stopped by shielding. In fact the entire Earth is unlikely to stop a neutrino. But that's nothing. You are being bombarded with even more neutrino radiation from the sun, day AND night. Night too because, again, the entire thickness of the Earth does not effectively stop neutrinos. However, the thing is, neutrinos are insubstantial "ghost" particles. They pass through anything without having any effect whatsoever except in VERY rare cases. They are phenomenally difficult to detect, because they almost never interact with a detector, even the best designs we can think of.

Neutrinos are tiny little particles that don’t interact with our particles because they aren’t affected by the forces that our particles are affected by. It’s like speaking a different language and not understanding someone who speaks a different one. The neutrino doesn’t speak the language our particles speak so it doesn’t interact with it
