30 Pictures That Show Americans Freaking Out Over The ‘Gas Shortage’ They Pretty Much Created By Themselves
A cyber attack has crippled a major pipeline in the US. The administration of US President Joe Biden projected that the Colonial Pipeline, source of nearly half the fuel supply on the East Coast, would restart in a few days and urged drivers not to top up their tanks.
"We are asking people not to hoard," U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told reporters at the White House. "Things will be back to normal soon."
Care to guess what everyone did? Even though government and industry officials said the nation had plenty of fuel and the pipeline was set to resume operations shortly, nervous drivers clogged gas stations and created shortages in parts of or all 11 states.
At least 12,000 gas stations reported being completely empty, and the squeeze pushed the price of a gallon past $3—the highest it has been since 2014. It's the toilet paper frenzy all over again.

Doesn't petrol eat through those plastics, like why they have the "no unapproved containers" signs on pumps ? Even if not...the fumes, the skin burns and fire risk is, well. I just can't explain how confused I am by using a bag of all things, to keep petrol in your home.

This is a rumor that has taken on its own life, as usual and the media is BSing about it. "A video that shows a woman filling up a plastic bag with gas from a Kroger gas station was posted online in 2019. Users recently shared the video as new, but the scene does not show the effects of the May 2021 gas shortages affecting the East Coast of the United States. Examples can be seen here and here . The text on one post reads: “This lady straight buggin! I know Issa gas shortage but In a plastic bag? Lol” The earliest instance of the video Reuters could find dates back to Dec. 11, 2019 here . It is unclear why the woman is using the plastic bag as a container for gas." ONE person, two years ago.

Those are water barrels, not safe for gasoline. Also, that is now a hazmat violation, not using an approved container. Second, the DOT limits personal transportation to 440 pounds of gas, which is approximately one of those barrels. This guy is flat out stupid.

Many of these shortages have been caused by people's irresponsible hoarding. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, for example, told CNN on Wednesday that panic buying caused a gas supply problem in his state. With about 70% of Charlotte's gas stations out of fuel and price gouging complaints piling up across the state, Cooper said that they are working on multiple fronts to mitigate the problems at hand.
"I want this gas supply problem fixed as quickly as possible, and we are working with the local and federal officials, and the company to get that done. I have declared a state of emergency which would allow the transportation waivers for more trucks and heavier trucks to come into the state to bring gas, and we have a waiver from the EPA to increase the amount of fuel coming in," Cooper stated.

It doesn’t absolve the stupidity, but this has proven to be from December 2019.
The federal government, meanwhile, has loosened rules to make it easier for suppliers to refill storage, including lifting seasonal anti-smog requirements for gasoline and allowing fuel truckers to work longer hours.
CNN also reported that ransomware hackers demanded nearly $5 million from Colonial Pipeline, according to two sources familiar with the incident. But at this point, the company has not paid the ransom.
Colonial Pipeline restarted operations about 5 p.m. ET, the company said in a statement.
"Following this restart, it will take several days for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal. Some markets served by Colonial Pipeline may experience, or continue to experience, intermittent service interruptions during the start-up period. Colonial will move as much gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as is safely possible and will continue to do so until markets return to normal," the company said.

She fills the tub but then realizes she shouldn't lift it alone, but lifts it anyway. Gas spills on her clothes and in her trunk putting the tub inside. She's not dumb though and drives home slowly so as not spill anymore, but she starts to feel woozy, the fumes are getting to her and she is seeing things in the road. She turns the corner and there's a cat (or was it a cat) and hits the breaks, sloshing gasoline all over her trunk and doubling the volume of fumes in her car. She drives on but is not feeling good. The car slowly rolls to a stop hitting a post box. She's passed out but at least she's got another day's worth of gas to get her by. America F*&K Yeah!

About 15 years ago I used to work at a gas station. I'd get yelled at a lot because I would shut off the pumps of people using inappropriate containers like this. Gas will melt through some items, and guess who's stuck cleaning it up. They'd yell at me, I'd point to the sign posted by the state that said authorized containers only, and let them know they could take it up with the police if they wanted me to turn their pump back on

This dude might be a farmer with that set up. In rural NC the tankers that do deliverys to farms for equipment are being delayed or diverted. The equipment they have uses both gas and diesel depending on the manufacturer. For a small farm thats like a weeks worth of gas. Obviously i don't know for sure.The people with brand new Jarry cans staked in the back of there mini van have no excuse.

I really needed gas and was close to being empty and filled up yesterday in Wilson, NC at an Amoco station - $2.79/gallon. I went inside and thanked them for not gouging. I'd hate to see what would happed if we had a depression. It would be like a cross between "Lord of the Flies" and "The Hunger Games." The next time someone tells me the US is a Christian nation, I think I'll show them some of these images. They are proof there is a real disconnect between what is professed and the actions of those same people.

Since I was a wee one in the 1970s gas shortage, when you were limited to 1 gallon at a time, and that was when you got maybe 5 miles per gallon... yeah, they're all gonna have full or near-full tanks. People on low fuel aren't even risking the drive to look for gas where I live. If they run out, it's all over.

A lot are, but if its a farmer who explained hes got an empty tank in his truck cuz the weekly delivery of gass to his farm didn't show up and hes f*** if he doesn't get some for his equipment the staff may say ok. I keep mine full. I rotate them, but usually not more than one is every empty at a time. I sleep much better knowing that my generator will power me though what ever outage I need it to. And when my wife comes home, sometimes her car needs gas (nearest station about 15 miles away). This is where most of it gets rotated out. The mower and other things don't use much.

There may be a gas shortage but this country has no shortage of selfish people. These are probably the exact same people who have 2,000 rolls of toilet paper and didn't learn a thing.

The people this most sucks for, are the everyday average joes, whose cars just happened to be on empty at the wrong time, and who just want to fill up their car and go home. Or, God forbid they needed to fill up on the way to work...

Since 9/11 in the US, and even since 1995 OK City bombing, that much fuel at once is a red flag to the ATF, FBI, et al. Which basically means a lot of these people just got put on a watchlist, for gas they won't even be able to use, and will try to sell, and then end up in prison and I'm really okay with that. I really am. .... Signed, saw this in the 1970s, that was an actual shortage

I am really surprised they were able to fill so many containers. In France, you can only fill the car reservoir. It is allowed to have a 20L jerrycan at home for mower or other appliances, or to transport in a 5L jerrycan for emergencies.

I live in the South. By what I'm sure is 100% sheer coincidence, the vast majority of the people in my area who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated look awfully similar to the people in these pictures. Again, I'm sure there's no connection in mentalities whatsoever. None.

In most contries you can't fill cans, plastic bins with fuel. Its illegal to do that, because of the safety hazards.

If I was down there right now (parents live in western NC) I’d go up to each of these fat f***s with my camera going and ask them how they feel about endangering people’s lives. My dad is 86 and just had a triple bypass. He’s got kidney disease. This means that he has to be able to get to the hospital fairly easily (he was actually rushed to the ER three times in the last month). He’s never done anything to hurt anyone including hoarding. There are thousands of people like him all over the place. But do these people care? No. Why? Because they’re disgusting greedy fat assholes.

Despite the (perhaps deliberately) extremely misleading title, we did not make this shortage. It was a ransomware attack, according to the most recent information I could find. Thank you! And considering many of these people live in states where the ruling party’s answer to public woes is that people need to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps,” they’re getting boot-strappy. They likely assume the cyber attack won’t be resolved any time soon, and since they have at-will employment, they may be fired if they don’t have enough gas to drive themselves to work. No public transit in rural areas.

The shortage is already over. Biden said it would only take a week and to not panic. Only red states act like this. Trumpers are the most selfish and the most easily triggered. It's so weird they talk about everything they hate all the time and they don't even realize they're completely talking about themselves. They are not self aware in the slightest. Projection is crazy. I want to know how they keep their children alive being that stupid??
