If there’s one place we expect to feel safe in this confusing world, it’s definitely the doctor’s office. We step foot through the door with concerns and thoughts ruminating in our heads for days, hoping to find some comfort in their words. But as it turns out, that’s not always what we get.
You see, while becoming a doctor takes enormous amounts of grueling hard work, talent, and knowledge, not everyone in the field has a sympathetic bedside manner. One Redditor who goes by the handle MCKlassik decided to find out about off-putting experiences people lived through at their most vulnerable. They reached out to members of the Ask Reddit community and raised the question: “What’s the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you?”
Thousands of people came forward to share their blood-boiling stories that might rev up your heart rate. We at Bored Panda have collected the most illuminating replies that prove some medical professionals are completely out of touch and aloof when interacting with their patients. So continue scrolling and let us know what you think about them in the comments.

Wasn’t a doctor but a nurse. While taking my history she asked if I was on any medication. I told her birth control & an anti-depressant. She looked at me and said “You’re so young, what do you have to be depressed about?” I thought about it and realized I had nothing to be depressed about and was cured! Thanks random nurse! /s
When I told my doctor I suffer from depression, he said "Why? It's not like your whole family was killed in a plane crash."
Not only is that ignorant of how trauma works, but also that’s part of the idea of depression. I have a friend with clinical depression, lives a good life, great job, own home, loving friends, but her brain just doesn’t make happy juice without assistance. Sometimes it’s a illness and not an injury (if that makes sense)

That's beyond unprofessional! I hope you found a decent doctor after that.

At my very lowest with my depression went to my doctor to change my meds and he turns round and say just get over it!
Ugh. Hate this ppl. They just don’t understand that depression is a real and serious thing.
Load More Replies...You should have reported the ignorant cow. Depression can hit a person at any age. I despise opinionated people and to make it worse SHE should have known to keep her stupid opinion to herself. Maybe one day she will get a taste of it and know exactly how others feel xx
One of the most freeing things for me has been coming to terms with my depression. I knew I couldn’t help it, but a small internal part of me was still feeling guilty and blaming myself. Through therapy I’ve managed to let that feeling go and it’s so freeing. Depression is what it is and no amount of blaming changes it. I am just depressed. That is neither bad nor good, it just is. Big weight off my shoulders.
I call my approach to depression and anxiety "the management model" - I accept that it won't be cured, but I can manage it reasonably well.

"You weren't sexually abused, that doesn't happen to boys."
I hate hate hate these double standards. If we reversed the gender then people will care but otherwise they’ll dismiss the suffering and the fact that the experience happened
People don't believe most women who are sexually abused and they believe sexually abused men even less. If the abuser is famous, well liked, rich and/or good-looking, no one is going to believe the victim(s) - even worse, the mob in the comment section will mercilessly attack them and then wonder why most sexual report isn't reported. As a male victim, you almost have to "hope" your abuser is an ugly old catholic priest for people to believe you.
Load More Replies...I am so very sorry, both for the abuse you suffered sexually, and the abuse you suffered by an ignoramus. I hope you found a good doctor and a good therapist.
I'm so sorry they said that instaid of listening to you... it can happen to everyone and has nothing to do with gender or age
OMG!! My baby brother, from the ages of two to six years old), was horribly and SADISTICALLY abused by my ex-step father!! As we're myself, age six, little sister, age four, and HIS infant daughter, my half-sister. Sexual abuse knows no gender nor age. OP's doctor is a fu*cking idiot!!!! ;( I hope you are well now, my friend! Love to you and hugs! ;(
Forced oral sex and other deviant acts not normally even consenting adults would do. Believe me, I know!

Yet it also works the other way - a friend's daughter was sexually abused and the police told her to bring her down to the station. A boy of the same age in the same town had it happen and the police were round there like a shot, talking to neighbours etc.
"A little back pain is normal. You should learn to live with it." Later: "It's probably mental", and when I tried to kill myself: "You're psychotic". Four decades and numerous passed mental examinations later i was finally diagnosed.
I had a slipped disk.
The ignorance is actually disgusting. Unbelievable, doctors are supposed to be happy and willing to help you! Not brush you off
A for-profit health care system results in a lot of incompetent "doctors" who are only in it for the money.
Load More Replies...That's awful. Sounds similar to my experience when I kept being told that low back pain is normal and to stop slouching etc. After finally getting an MRI it turns out I had a disc herniation. Two actually but one was way worse.
My GP arranged straight away for me to get an MRI and i was quickly diagnosed. Not much they could do with the various issues found (painkillers, physio etc can't help much in my case) but at least we knew why i was in pain.
Load More Replies...Omg that's. So unfair chronic pain is a nightmare to live with . I struggle with back pain and the problems it causes me mentally as well as physically are really hard to deal with. I hope your ok .
I was told my flank pain was mental. After 2 years goy diagnosed with a large kidney stone.
WTH kind of doctors do you all have? A slipped disk and kidney-stones are pretty common and nothing weird or exotic!
Load More Replies...I had to argue with my doctor to get an MRI for my back pain and he finally agreed, you'd think I was asking him for heroin or something. Turns out I have 5 herniated discs and degenerative disc disease.
Being a woman, the next best thing is being told...you should lose weight!! But in the US getting diagnosed is a hit or miss anyway. 5K into various testing...oh, you have a cold lol
Oh yeah. That's such a great advice for someone with sudden back-pain! I mean sure, I'd like to lose weight but my fricking back is fricking hurting NOW and not in ... Idk how long it's supposed to be to lose weight. Never lost weight... lost the backpain, though. Huh. Weird, how that goes.

Not once was she sent for an X-ray or scan. It was cancer in her spine and by the time she did get checked ,,, she went private,,, the cancer was all through her.
always make the doctor write in your file that your request for further examination was denied on their behalf. If they're on the hook for it, they'll make sure there's really nothing wrong with you. (my doc told me it was just a cold and sent me home but i said i wanted to do at least the blood test, but they said that wouldn't be neccessary, it's the season y'know cold, so i told her can they then write that in the file and i didn't move from the seat until they decided they're not going to risk and they did send me to do the blood test-i had pneumonia, few days later i'd be dead without the medicine)
We managed to get in touch with the creator of this thread, Redditor MCKlassik, who was kind enough to have a little chat with us. The user revealed they got the idea to post this question and start a discussion on Ask Reddit after their friends started sharing their own unfortunate experiences with medical professionals. “[I] wanted to see if other people have similar stories,” they told Bored Panda.
However, the user did not expect the thread to blow up as much as it did. As of today, the user’s post has amassed nearly 30K upvotes with more than 19K commenters opening up about the inappropriate doctors they ever had the “pleasure” to deal with.
“In terms of going viral, Ask Reddit is hit or miss because so many people post questions every day in hopes of making it to the top. I understand where they’re coming from because Ask Reddit is one of the biggest subreddits on the platform. So I was quite surprised that my post just happened to stand out enough for people to give their stories and to respond to others,” MCKlassik said.
Went in for a lung infection. Was told that my asthma was caused by my breasts being “too big” and they were crushing my lungs and that’s the cause of asthma in women. …. I asked what online university he got his MD from and if he could get a refund and left to go to a different clinic.
What did you do about your crushed ribs? Or did the doctor think you had nothing between your breasts and your lungs?
I cannot spell all the irate sputtering noises I just made at this story.
I was in the ER in the last few years, and the subject of my weight came up. I've struggled with my weight my entire life.
ER doctor: "Have you tried pushaways?"
Me: "What are those?"
ER doctor: "When you push away from the table. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA."
He thought it was the most hilarious thing any person has ever said. I can assure you it was not.
What's also really sad is no matter how successful that ER doc has become, they're still the school bully , hiding their insecure, powerless, incompetence, and toxic shame, trying to impose those feelings onto someone else. They are sad people who are afraid others will see their weaknesses and bully others to appear strong, even though to most people they seem small minded and disgusting.

I see the doctor is a firm believer in pushaways. Pushing people away from him with his terrible jokes.
Doctors don't care. Whether they are just jerks, on a power trip, egotistical narcissists, burdened down by a healthcare system that turns them into paper pushers and debt collectors, or drowning under the crippling debt they owe for medical school loans- 99.9% do not care about you on any personal level. If you are dying and leave their office and never come back? They will not care, nor will they call you when you miss your chemo or appointments. They may not have time to care or they may be overworked or, most likely, they are just not the kind of people who give a c**p. Maybe if your case is interesting enough for them t publish a paper, but even then they are only interested in what you can do for them and their career. BomBombardbwith
Please prove me wrong with all your stories of a genuinely caring doctor. But, if during the time you or the person you knew was being treating, if you stopped showing up to appointments, do you really think they would check up on you? No. You're not a friend and unless you or right in front of them, they won't spare a thought for you. At least that's how it is in the good old 'greatest country on earth, the USA'. (Hashtag sarcasm)
Load More Replies...A nurse, after I requested a Benadryl for intense itching after a c-section: "I can't give you anything for random itching. You are breastfeeding and it will cause drowsiness for you and baby. You'll have to suck it up." She handed me my son from his crib-thing and told me skin-on-skin was best. I was burning up and my son, while content, wasn't latching or otherwise interested in eating. She put the crib just far enough that I couldn't move over enough to put him back. Every part of my skin burned like stinging nettles. 45 minutes later I was covered in hives, crying from hormones, itching and my pain levels and thought I was having an allergic reaction to something. My son was falling asleep on me while i was itching until my arms bled. I rang my bell. A different nurse came in and says "Oh good Lord, you are having a reaction to something! Poor thing, you look uncomfortable, let's get you sorted out!" I asked her about breastfeeding and she's like "Baby won't starve and you won't be feeling much like feeding if you're scratching your breasts off, now will ya?" She gave me Benadryl in my IV, and a bit of extra pain medication. I guess I had some weirdo immune response, not an actual reaction to anything like medication or whatnot. She took my son and dressed him all up in a couple outfits I brought (he was born on Hallowe'en) and kept him up at the nurses station for about 90 minutes while I slept. When my husband came up later (he was taking my older son to my brother's after grabbing him from daycare) the nurses were all taking turns holding my 8 hour-old son and I slept a solid 3 hours. I felt like a million bucks. Didn't see Benadryl-Denying Betsy again. B***h.
It's not just some people. The whole world - including most women - believes the suffering of women is totally normal. Especially anything in regards to menstruation and child bearing. Just look at how effing long it took to get any awareness of endomytriosis.

You're absolutely right! My sister in law is one of the second options. Some people become nurses for the power tripping, control over patients and staff, and are evil ânâl retentive bîtches. I worked under one on 2nd shift for some time and thankfully for me, she liked me, because I did my job with no nonsense and she could count on not having to check behind me or ask more than once.
Load More Replies...Seems odd that the nurses were in effect babysitting a newborn. Wasn't there a dedicated place for the baby to go?
I wondered that too. The hospital I was at recommends the baby stay in moms room 24/7 but had a dedicated nursery for if mom needs a break or is having complications, it would never be the regular floor nurses.
Load More Replies...I had the opposite after having my second baby - midwife's and nurses in and out asking if I needed pain meds/sleeping pills/help breastfeeding what felt like every 15 minutes, waking me up each time- I was only kept in because my son was born late and night so easier to discharge me in the morning I guess, I was ready to throw something at the next person to wake me up. Was so glad to get home
After my C-section I was having a really intense itching and somebody left me with a washcloth so that I could rub my face and not scratch it. I was left unsupervised for about 30 minutes and I rubbed my face raw so that for the first two weeks with all the pictures everybody felt like taking, I had scabs all over my face from where I had rubbed with a washcloth for so long.
Oh my gosh! How awful! Nurses should always listen to the person always! Especially with pain and itching!!

This thread serves as proof that some doctors can seriously cross the line, whether intentionally or not, with what they tell their patients. However, it’s important to remember that many people in the medical field are amazing at their jobs and deserve countless awards for taking care of someone else’s life. It’s reassuring to know that many doctors take extra steps to make sure our physical health and our state of being would be in a good place. MCKlassik believes that when doctors are unprofessional, they don’t do it intentionally. “Sometimes the phrase or action just slips out,” they said.
“Quite frankly, I’m not surprised that doctors can be unprofessional because doctors are human, meaning they’re not perfect,” the user added. “Sometimes a doctor’s negative emotions and comments are brought into their workday due to potential personal issues and let it impact their performance.”
“I MUST examine you internally. Don’t be a wuss” (This GP was 6”6 and built like Goliath)
At my 6 week post partum check up after a 4th degree tear. And a letter from the surgeon saying “do not examine the patient”
I was 20 and ‘let” him, crying the whole time.
Bastard.
If he ignores another doctor's written recommendations, he's just a sadistic pr*ck. I'm pretty sure you didn't lodge a complaint - and I understand if you didn't - but I don't think that was his first rodeo.
Sounds like a pervert to me. When you're young and/or unsure, it's always best to take a friend to Dr appts if you can.

That's sexual assault. I had a gyn give me an incredibly painful pelvic examination that he clearly enjoyed without explaining what he was going to do. Doctor or not, it can leave you feeling damaged.
I was 12 yo when I had a first internal exam (finger in vagina). I gained weight when I started puberty - like loads of girls - so my mum took me to this gynaecologist. After that exam - the bastard insisted on it - he proceded to open up my blouse and 'fondle' my breasts. My mum was standing two meters away. This was over 40 years ago and it still upsets me thinking about it. I hope the bastard died in a LOT of pain. There was no good reason to do that kind of exam on a twelve year old girl. I felt so humiliated.

This is why I go with my wife to new doctors. They act differently when a 6'4" grizzled oilfield rough neck is standing there beside his wife. When they fuss about me being there, we've turned around and gone to a different emergency room more than once. Doctors aren't gods....they are humans, and usually cocky assholes...you have to make them behave sometimes, and I do.

“Nope, I can’t feel any lump”
I was convinced I felt a lump in my testicles. The doctor couldn’t feel it. Ended up taking way longer than acceptable to get an ultra sound (roughly 6 weeks).
And yes, it turned out to be cancer.
I’m all good now but that was BS.
Edit -due to the attention this is getting I added some info about testicular cancer below:
Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer for men aged 20-35. It’s also **the most treatable form of cancer** nowadays so don’t panic if you feel a lump.
The lump itself felt like a small bb inside my testicle. Hardly noticeable. The consistency was hard and it didn’t give at all when pressed. Usually there is no pain accompanied with the tumor. I could feel it when holding my ball between my thumb and forefinger.
I should also add I had to insist that I felt something when visiting the doctor and if I hadn’t I don’t think I’d have gotten an ultrasound. If you feel something isn’t normal trust yourself.
You advocated for yourself. We should all be doing this. So glad you're all good now.
Nikki this was posted on Reddit. You're not speaking to the OP.

Husband had a testicle removed for the same reason. Guys, don't dismiss it. There's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about going to the Dr to get checked out, especially for something like cancer. Makes me upset this guy's doctor, DOCTOR, wanted to dismiss this.
People insist a lot on "check your boobs" to save lives, but check your balls also.
Couldn't exactly miss mine. One of my testicles swelled to almost the size of a tennis ball in the space of a week. Doctor thought it was a cyst, and whilst the swelling was a cyst, it was caused by cancer. That was 23 years ago! Testicular cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer because it is so agressive and so responds well to chemo that targets rapidly dividing cells. The earlier it is caught, the easier it is to treat and the lower the chance of any secondary tumours. Check your balls, fellas!
I found what I thought was a lump, was very nervous about the ultrasound because a) cancer b) someone handling my junk. And I get this really cool gay ultrasound tech, he was awesome, we double entendre'd our way through it, turns out I have veiny balls. It totally did not go the way I thought. But as the OP says, check yourself and don't sweat the exam, these guys juggle jewels day in day out, they know what you're thinking and how to put you at ease.
That was a great comment. I especially liked how you were put at ease by the gay tech 😁 I hope you (and your balls) are doing well these days! (And also, I love the username 😅 Galaxy Quest is an amazing movie.)

You're absolutely correct! My sister dated a young man many years ago that had testicular cancer in his early 20's. He lost a testicle but his life was spared. It's very important to check anything out of the ordinary at all, from the tiniest little lump to a odd hair follicle guys! Get it checked!
Load More Replies...Back in 2017, my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The first surgeon we went to see said he wouldn't even consider doing surgery, then stood about a foot away from us and said ,"You might have 3 months. I would get my affairs in order". It felt like he had sliced our hearts open, but as we left, I told my husband that the doctor was wrong. We met with another surgeon at UCSF, who recommended chemo to shrink the tumor, which my husband did, until he felt the chemo would kill him. Since the chemo did shrink the tumor, he then had surgery, which resulted in the complete removal of his pancreas, spleen, and gallbladder. This was followed by weeks of radiation. I am so happy and feel so blessed to say that, in October, it will be 5 years since the surgery, and all is well. So-secomd opinions? Absolutely.
I was looking for a surgeon for my gallstone operation and he asked what meds I was on. I mentioned my antidepressants and he started saying I didn't need to take them I just needed to pray. I was pissed and replied "I guess I'll just pray my gallstones away too then". Needless to say, I went with a different surgeon.
You can’t just “pray” depression away! I mean for some people having faith in something does help them, cause that’s what they believe in and gives them comfort. But you can’t just tell a random person to stop taking medicine that’s may or may not be working for them and pray instead!
I once prayed for my depression to go away and He gave me a trauma-educated phycologist who properly diagnosed and medicated me.
If all you need is prayer, then why is that *sshole a doctor and not a priest?
A few yrs ago I was choking when asleep.Went to GP, she sent me for a sleep analysis at sleep clinic. They diagnosed me with sleep apnea and I bought a CPAP machine.Still choking when I sleep but also twice in the day I went back to see the sleep doctor. I told him it feels like something is Getting lodged in my throat and he said no there isn’t anything there. I even asked for a scan but he said no. I felt frustrated and terrified I would suffocate in my sleep. Anyway a month later I woke up with one side of my face drooping and went to the ER. They thought I was having a stroke, did loads of tests and brain scan. Not a stroke but Bell’s palsy. However my thyroid was 3.5 times bigger on one side I need emergency biopsy. A month later I’m having it removed as it’s potentially cancer and the surgeon told me I’m so lucky not to have suffocated because the lump and thyroid was pushing into my windpipe. I was so angry, wrote to sleep doctor, never heard back.Arrogant Asxhole.
I'm a Christian, but that's just damned ignorant. Yes, sincere, self-motivated prayer CAN have positive effects on your emotional health. But relying only on prayer to get rid of depression is no more sensible than praying to get rid of an infection. A hope in miracles is NOT a substitute for the practice of medicine. If he thinks it is, he should quit medicine altogether.
Any doctor tells me to pray, I'm getting the f**k out of there before the exam is over. I'm paying you for your scientific expertise, not your opinions on mythology.
This isn't against Jewish people at all but I had this specialist I never met before. He was doing an exam around my stomach and asked what happened to my bellybutton. I told him it's a piecing. He let out this huge ugghhh. He stopped doing the exam right there, all of 20 seconds. When he came bac
Thankfully that would be enough to get a doctor struck off over here, I would be fuming if someone said that to me.
But when patients hear highly inappropriate and extremely ignorant comments from professionals who take care of one of the most important things in their life — their health — it can easily make them feel distraught. Without trust, you have nothing, as they say. So no wonder many people turn to other doctors after living through these uncomfortable experiences, hoping to get better treatment.
We want our physicians to be personal, caring, and understanding. We wish to receive sympathetic smiles and authentic human connection. But it turns out that empathy has been significantly lacking in medicine recently. Over the past few decades, many doctors have developed a reputation for being cold.
“It’s your fault, know better next time.” This was in response to learning I was raped while drunk. She said I shouldn’t drink around friends I don’t know for positive I can trust too. Also, “You should’ve protected your virginity better. I’ve only slept with one man.”
Never blame the victim! But as long as certain men can't behave themselves please ALWAYS have a good friend with you while partying that can have an eye on you. It safed at least two of my friends from getting raped cause someone dosed their drinks.

I would, but its not socially acceptable to wear a full medieval plate harness in public. So until it is, men are just gonna have to stop sexually assaulting people.

Same happened to me. I was told it wasn't rape because I had no bruises and maybe this will teach me never to get drunk again.
I hope the douchebag who said this to you gets fired or disciplined in some way. You could be face down drunk in the street, and that's NO excuse for rape! You are not to blame, in any way.

It wasn't what was said, but I did have an appointment where the doctor just never showed up. I was in the examination room for about 45 minutes when an MA walked in and asked me what I was doing there. When I said I was waiting for the doctor, "the doctor already left! We're closing". Instead of calling the doctor back they made me schedule another appointment. I found a new office instead.
Same thing happened to me. I took off half a day from teaching for a 1:00 appointment. Sat in the examination room until 3:00, then told them I had to go pick up my daughter from school. When I returned 20 minutes later, the dr. had left for the day. I refused to pay and never went back. Also told everyone I could think of.
That is awful. You are way more patient than I am. At the end of the first hour I would have been asking (politely) at reception how long I was expected to continue waiting and that is in the NHS. We are often informed of delays (even if it is a board in reception giving a rough idea!). I was annoyed at a 25 minute wait to see a nurse two weeks ago, who did at least apologise when I was called. When I have gone private in the UK I have definitely expected them to be far more considerate of my time. I'm paying directly for a service after all.
Load More Replies...I was at a pre surgical appointment with my GP from 10am until the entire office up and left for lunch leaving me sitting outside the x-ray room in a paper gown. Went to have surgery later in the week, told the surgeon why there was no pre-op report, and he walked straight to the phone, called my GP office and reamed them up one side and down the other. He also did the surgery (gallbladder), thank goodness. Changed GPs.
That happened to me too. I sat for about 2 hours and when I went up to the receptionist she said the doctor left around 30 minutes ago. No he wasn't called back and it took another 16 months to get another appointment. I was livid because the doctor I was waiting to see,,, who knew me,,, walked right past me on his way out. I then thought maybe I'm seeing a different doctor today but no. He deliberately ignored me on his way out. You can bet I seen a different doctor after that. They may be educated people but I find a lot of them are ignorant pricks who make you feel that you are wasting their time. Since covid seeing a doctor has almost been impossible even with the relaxing of the rules yet I see our doctor in Starbucks4 out of 7 days a wek
Sheesh, don't get me started. After showing up on time for my appointments for years only to find a waiting room full of people ahead of me with the same appointment time, I've learned to get there 20 minutes early, which usually cuts my 90-minute waiting time in half. The only difference between doctors and the post office and the DMV is that doctors get rich while treating us like c**p.
My obgyn never showed up for my oldest's birth, a scheduled C section due to him being breach and other complications on my part. I had picked that day because he was supposed to be there. I started to wonder why it was taking awhile to start-it was because they were trying to find another doctor.
I've worked in medicine since 1996. I can't tell you the number of times doctors have had staff reschedule their whole day because they want to go off and have some fun. (Often it's some pharmaceutical or medical equipment company wanting to take the doctor out for a day of golf) Occasionally, we wouldn't be able to reach the patient and had to leave a message. Patients would show up not knowing we were trying to reschedule. Pisses me off because some of these patients waited months to be seen. Doctors do what they want and there's very little any other staff can do about it. We're the ones left to explain it to the patients and to deal with their anger while the doctors are off not having a care in the world. With that said, not all doctors are this way. I've also worked with very caring doctors who would never do something like that.
i had an appointment at 8, because of the bus i was there at like 7.30. i saw my doctor arriving, leisurely walking towards her examination room at 8.35 with her cup of coffee while five of us were waiting for her to show up to work.
“Your child will never learn to read”. Said by “the best developmental doctor” at a very well known hospital about my then four year old son with Down Syndrome. This was in 2001:not 1901. After a very one sided conversation on my part that channeled Cher from the movie Mask, the doctor left the room and I was then escorted out by security. Parents believe these “professionals” and don’t expect much from their kids as a result. William is 24, reading on a 5-6 th grade level (we had a goal of 4th grade as that’s what a newspaper is geared to) and lives in his own.
Not to mention there are all sorts of levels of Down's.
Load More Replies...Good on ya! According to the doctors testing my son (autistic) when he was about 3 (31 years ago), he would never talk, never show affection, just never get better than he was at the time. "It would be best if someone more qualified were to raise him." Excuse me, doc? You mean an institution? Well, yeah, but they're much better now. Whatever. I thanked them for their time, told them where to shove their diagnosis and told them, "I have more faith in him than you do." Now, he chats up a storm, loves hugs (very angry that he can't hug people right now), tells corny jokes, is an awesome bowler and artist and just generally a pretty damn cool dude. Some docs are indeed quacks.
Yeah that 'one size fits all' diagnosis is often wrong. Each child with Autism (or many other things) is different and their symptoms can vary. I understand that they like to give the worst case scenario to prepare parents to avoid 'false hope' but it can be a problem. Thankfully there are lots of parents like you who are prepared to be their child's champion and raise them with a whole lot of love and get to celebrate those amazing wins!

My best friend's son, is 33, has more medical issues than you can shake a stick at, and is developmentally delayed. He is mentally about 8, but trust me, he is smarter than most people who live in Florida. A cretin with a Dr. in front of his name., told her to take her son home, because he would never live past his first birthday. Determined to prove him wrong, she sent him a card every year on her son's birthday. She stopped when he turned 18. He promised me one day that he would take care of his mom and me when we were in the nursing home. I love that young man!
My older brother had some issues when a baby. He puked his milk back up... Mom went to the doctor, Brother was examined, Doc said: "Don't get too used to the little one, he won't live much longer anyway..." WELL THANK YOU, A*****E! (My brother lives, he is now in his 40s)
My brother was a bit slow developer, aged 5 a doctor told my mum that he is “ret@rded” (commie era doctors generally lacked bedside manners). That she will be lucky to teach him read and write. He caught up within a year, 40 years later he’s got masters degree, successfull career and a family.
I had a lovely boy in my preschool class a couple of years ago who had a developmental delay. I'm not sure what his dr had told his parents, but his mum was super anxious about how he would go in preschool because of it. I worked with him all year and he made so many achievements, which at first his mum didn't believe when I told her- like using full sentences including adjectives. He also made some friends, which to me was the most important part, and he continued to do well the next year too, though then I lost touch with the family.
Load More Replies...Good for you! I was born with Goldenhaar syndrome (cartilage disease, born without an ear) and the docs told my mom and dad to consider putting me in a home before they got too attached to me. I won six games on Jeopardy as an adult! Neener Neener!!
Put you in a home just because you were missing an ear?!?!?
Load More Replies...Bravo. Doctors are not educators and anyone who tells you what your child will not be able to do cognitively, should stay in their lane.
Kind of ironic given that "doctor" was an academic term originally used to describe someone very well educated in their field.
Load More Replies...More and more patients are coming into contact with medical professionals who treat them more like objects rather than humans. Chris Lovejoy, a physician-in-training at St. George’s Hospital in London, told Quartz that one of the reasons behind it could be that they simply don’t have time to show empathy at work. “Quite easily in medicine, time pressure becomes just another excuse to avoid difficult conversations,” he said.
But while we can sometimes justify their impersonal treatment as an obvious symptom of receiving better expertise and correct diagnosis, compassion is essential in medicine. “Empathy is, and always has been, a core part of medical practice,” Lovejoy added. “I remember a psychiatrist at medical school who would always say ‘the first thing you prescribe to a patient is yourself.‘” We can just hope that we will see more prescriptions of good bedside manner and basic human decency to avoid breaking patients’ trust in the future.
This wasn’t a doctor, but a couple of years ago I had to get blood drawn at a lab. When they called me in, I sat down in the chair, and laid my arm out on the table so they could draw the blood.. At that point, some old self harm scars on my arm were still pretty visible (and it’s something I’m very self-conscious about). The phlebotomist gasps when she sees it, says “How ugly! What could have ever made you do that to yourself?” and stood there waiting expecting an answer. Her tone was not of genuine concern, but was sort of disgust. I told her it’s private and asked if we could just start the blood draw, and I had to repeat that multiple times before she actually started. While she was doing it, she continued on telling me that I’m “too young to be depressed” and that the scars were “such a horrible thing to do” to myself. I couldn’t get up and run out the door because there was a needle in my arm. My face was so red, tears were in my eyes, and became so embarrassed and upset that I couldn’t say anything. I just waited for it to be done, and ran out the door. I found an online feedback form for the company and left a complaint there, and left a voicemail on their customer service phone line. I got no response, but I just hope someone spoke with that person about it. And that no one with self-harm scars is made to feel as embarrassed and ashamed as I was.
Omg, I’m so sorry that happened to you. You shouldnt be ashamed of your scars. I get they give you bad memories, but look how much you have grown past it. That doctor was a terrible person.
Wow thats so nasty. Ive actually had a convo with a lot of people about tattoo artists, especially the queer friendly ones being more considerate than most doctors. A lot of the tattoo artists in my sphere do coverups of self harm or scars in general. This can obviously be extremely delicate business, because not only do you have to discuss a sensitive topic but there will be questions about placement, design and limitations. Things like certain scars not being completely coverable or working with certain designs. And when youre talking about breast cancer scars or remnants of abuse or anything like that this is obviously a very delicate conversation. One that a surprising amount of docs have trouble navigating with grace. Idk if that because docs in general are kinda taught to look at people like "bodies" rather than persons, and most queer people who end up as tattoo artists have probably been through some s**t or know people who have, but either way, i have never been in such space
Someone with scars of her own... My attitude is summed up by the tattoo I'm going to get: "My scars tell a story, they are reminders of when life tried to break me and failed" Don't be ashamed, they are like Superman's S. They show others how strong we were and that we were able to survive!
I'm so,so sorry. SHAME on that person. I'm sending you a virtual hug to tell you that I love you just the way you are. Signed someone's mom!
I don’t haven’t ever cut myself but a lot of my friends have before I met them and they are always so concerned that I will do it and we all do wrist checks every once in a while, and I would never ever ever shame them for doing it! Infact, I congratulate them when they start healing and they haven’t done it in a while.
Next time, try saying "Battle scars." If they ask anything more, say, "Is there a medical reason you're asking? Because I'd rather not talk about it, thank you."
Omg she needs to fúck off that's extremely personal
I had developed DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) as a result of being bad at having type 1 combined with a severe stomach bug. I hadn’t eaten in days and was having horrible diarrhea. When I was getting treated in the ICU, I had an accident and s**t the bed- I wasn’t allowed to get up on my own and no one was answering the nurse call button (I don’t blame anyone for that- people are actually dying in the ICU and I just needed frequent monitoring for an insulin drip). The CNA had a new person shadowing her and when I got up, the newbie audibly gagged and acted super grossed out, swearing under her breath while changing the sheets. I get it, poop is gross, but I was already super embarrassed and ashamed. The main CNA told her to leave and apologized to me for her reaction. I just asked that she not come back, which they respected.
Wrong profession. Wtf did they think they were gonna encounter? Flowers and cupcakes? Medicine is gross and brutal.
Which is why I never plan to go into medicine. Know yourself before you pick your profession

One thing we got told before working on the floor was, being a clean set of uniform/ scrubs, socks bra and underwear. Poop vomit pus and various other secretions were seen and cleaned frequently on our floor. Be reassuring and never make the mistake of embarrassing the patient. Its all stuff that will wash up and out. If you dirty those, the OR had extra scrubs and a shower if it was really bad, like in tour hair. And the head nurse was correct. Blood was the worst and you just took care of it and worried about yourself last. If you were exposed like in the eye or mouth or ears, you were sent to the showers and paid while you got cleaned up!
Load More Replies...It's a super awkward situation. TBH, I've worked as a nurse/hospital/blah blah for 10 years and have dealt with a lot of literal sh*t. I have a strong poker face and stomach but every one and a while the sh*t randomly gets me like that. I'm not excusing this or trying to say you're wrong. We just acknowledge it's awkward and uncomfortable for all of us, reassure the patient it's not a big deal, and move on. I'm so sorry you felt so uncomfortable like that. From my side, we feel just as awkward when a "with it" patient has an accident, but it happens ALL THE TIME. Medical people are human, we don't have super stomachs, we just deal with it to care for the people who need help.
Audibly gagging and swearing isn't dealing with it.

That's awful! When I was a teen, I just delivered meals in the hospital. We were all just teens without medical training and while there are moments of gross sights and smells in any hospital, none of us would dream of visibly reacting in front of a patient.
Please don't say that you're "bad at having type 1." Type 1 diabetes SUCKS. I don't think ppl really understand the toll it takes on your body. Any part of your body. It does not discriminate. I have been T1 for almost 37 years. It's had its ups and downs (hahahahaa see what I did there) but at the end of the day, type 1 will be there doing its thang no matter what. Don't let the numbers defeat you. What goes up must come down. F*ck diabetes.
i went to the doctors' to get my breasts checked (he basically just held and caressed them in a manner he wouldn't have had a chance to feel anything potentially dangerous) and due to them causing me a lot of physical pain i asked him about my options regarding breast reduction surgery. he got visibly angry and told me to never even think about it, and called them "beautiful and tender". he was well in his 50s and i was 18-19. i paid like 50 dollars for master roshi to ignore my health issues and make me find another doctor who actually wanted to help people
That’s not harassment, it’s full-on assault. Also, I really want to believe that I would sue the fūck out of his sorry áss, but we don’t know how we would be able to respond in that situation until we do experience it (not that we should have to).

My granddaughter,, 14 at the time,, needed to have her tummy examined and the doctor put his hand up just under her bra. She felt really uncomfortable and I seen she looked embarrassed I asked her what was wrong and she told me. I went straight back in and asked wtf he thought he was doing. He of course denied it. I wanted to take it further but my granddaughter just wanted to go home. Fast forward 2 years and the same child was I'll and admitted to hospital. She was terrified the entire time. It really affected her views on seeing her doctor
I went to a doctor because I had a blocked duct in my gallbladder (age 19) and it caused me a lot of pain. It ended up resolving on its own but while I was on the exam table, the doctor pulled my pants and underwear all the way down to my knees. I was lying there completely exposed while he pressed on an area just below my ribs. There was absolutely no reason to have my pants down that far. I walked away feeling violated and that he just wanted a perverted thrill.
I was 17 and had found a lump in my breast. I was terrified.
My mother took me to her gynecologist because she didn't trust mine, who she'd never met. The doctorexamined me and told me I had something called Fibrocystic Disease. He said hormones make it worse. Since I was on oral birth control, I asked him if I should stop taking the pill.
He said I shouldn't be on the pill in the first place and walked out of the room without saying anything else. No explanation of what Firbrocystic Disease was, no further instructions for care.
I waited about 20 minutes for someone to come back and then I just got dressed, including putting on my winter coat and waited. Fifteen minutes later a nurse comes in, looks at me and says "You can get dressed now."
I said, "I AM dressed."
She looked at me again and turned around and walked out without a word.
I left and never went back. I ended up looking up Fibrocystic Disease at my college library, but really couldn't tell how bad it was or what I should do.
Ended up going to a different gynecologist. I didn't have Fibrcystic Disease, I had fibrous breast tissue. I ended up having that lump removed because it caused so much pain. Haven't had any lumps since or any pain.
That first doctor can go f**k himself.
Oh yeah, and my mother, who is the one who put me on birth control, said the doctor was right, I shouldn't be on it. Nothing like feeling cared for and supported by your parents and doctor.
I was diagnosed at 27 with a pituitary adenoma. I found a lump in my breast and was lactating 3 yrs after breastfeeding stopped. I was diagnosed 1st given pamphlets and sent home to think I had a brain tumor and was going to leave my 2 year old behind with no mom. I told my mom who was a mess and had just lost her husband. My regular gynecologist was notified of my impending mammogram and ordered blood work for me which was normal. My scans showed a mass so I had a biopsy on Christmas eve because it was the soonest appointment. No cancer 6 months I thought I was dying because nothing was explained to me, no help was given and the dr didn't know s**t. Also the surgeon who did the biopsy wouldn't remove the tumor which was not cancerous from my body when asked. Fun times that was.
Clarification: I did not in fact have a pituitary adenoma it was just a benign tumor in my breast no brain tumor at all.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry this happened to you. A good friend of mine had anxiety issues when she was about 16. She was still a virgin, and she told me about one night she had a panic attack and was taken to the ER. Instead of helping, the doctor started harassing her, insinuating that she might be pregnant and just doesn't want to tell her mom. She says the doctor was so cold and firm on what he was saying, that she started to think maybe I am pregnant, and in her mind she started to wonder whether she had been abused, or something happened that she didn't know. She said it was a horrible experience, and going to the ER that night left her in a worse place than before she went.
Here's something I utterly don't understand. If you believe a 17-year-old shouldn't be having sex, why would you want her to quit birth control instead of quitting sex? I EVEN have serious problems with the notion that it's OK to teach kids to simply rely on birth control if they don't want to have babies, because to do so supposes that birth control is 100% effective. But NOT taking birth control and having sex anyway is 0% effective.
i agree with you, although i want to note that op never mentioned why she was on birth control. there's a chance she was using it to help with symptoms of her period, or something else medical.
Load More Replies...Arrgh!I Was taught young to not trust doctors, always go in from a position of knowledge and verify what they say. Now that is quite overboard, but it comes from a good place. We need to know when something is not right and when to get medical attention. If a health professional decides that we should or should not be doing something because of a moral position, then they have crossed a line. The same with relying on prayer to cure or 'fix' something. You are seeing them for a medical opinion. If you wanted religious healing you would have gone to a Christian Science reading room!
I mean, it's kinda early cause your body is developing still, we all know you wanted to be in birth control to fxck without ending pregnant, most gynecologist don't recommend pills if you are under 22.
Well, unless you really need it, it is indeed not a good idea to take the pill. But that's for health reasons.
When I was in junior high, I went out for the basketball team. I had to take a physical and it had to be done by the school's doctor and not my own. I went in to do the physical and had to get naked. I did so and the doctor looked me over. He saw that I have an inverted breast bone and said "Wow. That is freakish. You can't be on the team with that." I know that my breast bone makes it look like I have a whole in my chest, but I had never been self-conscious about until that moment. Because this examination was taking place in the boys' locker room in front of other kids wanting to go out for the team too, everyone started laughing at me and calling me names. I grabbed my s**t and left. My mother took me to our regular doctor who reassured me that there was nothing wrong with me and that there are plenty of people who have breast bones just like mine. It didn't help but I appreciated that she explained it to me. I stopped taking off my shirt in front of others. I was harassed and bullied by my entire classic for years to come because a doctor made an comment that he shouldn't have made.
The craziest part of this story is that a full medical exam was done in front of a bunch of kids. wth
You're exactly right. That's despicable. There's no reason for preteens to get naked in front of each other. That's ridiculous.
Load More Replies...To someone in the UK this just seems out and out weird. You play and get assessed by how well you perform to get on a team at this level. Why the need for a medical? Why did it have to be the school doctor? Why the need to be naked? Why the need to do it in front of others?
In Ohio, US, our High Schoolers are required to have a medical exam before they start practicing, then usually a few weeks of conditioning & practices THEN you try out.

Wth why do you need a physical to be on the basket hall team that's weird af. Also he's a total ah who shouldn't be a dr or around kids .
You had to strip naked in front of all your other teammates? That is outrageous! ;(
Hold up - why are kids getting naked in front of each other to play a sport at school? Why does a doctor require them to be naked? What the f**k is that all about? No way I'd let a school do something like that, if they need a medical fine, but they're keeping clothes on and doing it in private, or with me present depending on my kids age. It's school sport, not the olympics. What the f**k.
In two different states we lived in, neither I nor my children had to do this with a team doctor at school. They got private physicals at our doctors office and returned a paper to school.

I had taken my 92 year old mother to a recheck appointment to her PCP.
An apparently new medical assistant was dutifully getting her history by reading off a checklist. When she asked when Mom's last period was, I looked at Mom a little nervously: she was VERY old school, very dignified and would typically never acknowledge to her sons that she had female parts.
I saw a rare twinkle in Mom's eyes as she calmly replied, "well, I can't give you an exact number of months, but I'm pretty sure it was sometime in the late 1960s."
The assistant had the good grace to laugh with us, apologize, then read the next question.
"do you think you might be pregnant?"
Edit: changed PPP to PCP.
Actually vaginal bleeding in postmenopausal women needs to be checked for malignancy (endometrial cancer). If your 2 years past menopause and start bleeding again see a doctor! Trust the checklist ;)
And when the checklist ticks yes for pregnancy, your next call is to the Guinness book of world records!

LOL. My first checkup with my PCP after surgery and treatment for uterine cancer (including everything from the cervix on up being removed) included the nurse asking when my last period was. I answer with a date about a year prior. She didn't say much except to say I was overdue for a pap smear. I replied they were welcome to try, but might be hard since I no longer had the equipment to smear. That did get her attention, she looked closer at my record and apologized.

When I was 21 I dislocated my shoulder and it continued to hurt for weeks. Went to a specialist, he suggested the pain was all in my head! After an MRI he realized I had a SLAP tear in my shoulder, so I said, looks like it's not all in my head, and he looked at me with such contempt, I never went back to that a*****e.
Pain is always in your head. Did having a child tear a woman from her V to her A. They blame post partem(not the fact it tore her urethra and now intercourse was painful). Oh the reason why your depressed is because you have bad coping mechanisms not because your in chronic pain from a car wreck and had to relearn how to walk again. Don't get me started of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue diagnosis not being looked into.

He told me I needed surgery to keep from having lock shoulder syndrome and it become permanent. LOL! I told him that his colleague told me it was in my head. He told me that his colleague was a jackass! LOVE WORKING WITH HIM STILL!!
UGH I'm currently dealing with severe shoulder pain..I've had 2 surgeries on it in the last 2 years, injections, MRIs etc..my new doctor is currently diligently taking all steps to figure out why nothing seems to be working :( but at least I feel like he's taking it seriously and not treating me like a hypochondriac.
Took 20+ years and numerous doctors telling me my symptoms of ringing and pressure in my ears were all in my head until I finally got the diagnosis of Meniere's disease.
That's a very debilitating condition, I have a couple of friends who have it. They're on various medications and undergoing vestibular rehab which seems to help. Hope you're getting the treatment you need. Best of luck.

Usually that particular subspecialty love to do all kinds of imaging, physical examination maneuvers, and diagnostic exams and rule out everything that may be going on from a musculoskeletal issue before considering a psychosomatic cause of pain. That's disappointing though if this were true.
I was told by an orthopedic surgeon that the pain was in my head, because 'a spur doesn't cause pain'. The spur was in my knee and my muscles etc rubbed against it when I moved my knee, but of course it couldn't cause any pain!

Convinced I had broken something, my mom took me to the doctor who told me it was just bruised and the pain was in my head. My smart mouth instantly said "if you're having problems with your vision, try glasses", basically all but called me an idiot and asked who went to medical school. 4 days later, swelling is still massive, pain still bad. Got an x-ray, turns out several bones in my wrist weren't just broken, they were crushed. Hey doctors? You may have gone to medical school and have done the work, but most of the time we know our own bodies.

I had a 20+ day period two months after a miscarriage. It wasn’t slowing down. I went to a dr at 9 days. He told me I wasn’t having a miscarriage. He was also standing in the hallway next to the waiting room and yelled it it it the room I was in before walking away. I went to another dr on day 18. He told me to calm down and it will stop. I was calm. Went to another dr on day 20. He gave me medication to clot my blood. It stopped on day 22. A month later I had excruciating pain in my left ovary. So much pain I’d puke and pain killers didn’t touch it. I went to the hospital 12 hours after the pain started. The dr there didn’t run any tests or even touch me or ask me any questions. Then he went on a rant about how women are hysterical and run to the emergency room for anything. Like soaking a pad in an hour or passing huge blood clots. Which are things we are told to do by drs.
Horrifying and disgusting! Doctors are SUPPOSED to help! If you don’t like to help people than quit!
Should become standard practice when a doc has this attitude to their patients. "Hey doc, think it's time you retire and start bird watching or something. You've run your course here."

Load More Replies...Actually there was a study done that showed that women are much less likely to be prescribed painkillers and if they are they usually get weaker ones than men. This applies interestingly enough to both female and male doctors prescribing. The whole who is more pain tolerant if the sexes is a bit of a reductive question and is getting an appropriate amount of scrutiny right now. Its complicated, but theres some suggestion that women tend to develop pain disorders more often and suffer more frequently from chronic pain, i wont bring the childbirth/menstruation argument into this, because thats banal. Even without that women seem to suffer from headaches and muscle pain more often, so it seems the whole "women are used to dealing with low grade pain often" isnt exactly untrue. Men on the other hand seem to have a higher pain threshold, which isnt the same as tolerance. Basically more and more were finding that pain affects the sexes differently, with differing reaction to same stimuli
This makes me so angry. I had endometriosis for 10 years and they kept treating me like a "hysterical woman" When I finally saw a specialist, he approved a hysterectomy after exhausting all other options for pain relief. My insurance company denied the claim saying it was "elective" surgery. I decided to fight back and wrote an appeal to Blue Cross and sent a 4 page letter describing the hell of endometriosis and what it was like living with it. They actually approved it after months of fighting and I've been pain free ever since and have my life and sanity back. Oh...and when he did the surgery, he found all of these other things wrong, like tumors and scar tissue so extensive that it was going into my other organs.
Wow, that is so sad. I wasn't having a miscarriage, but started bleeding one evening and it wouldn't stop. Finally we called 911, didn't know what else to do. They came and agreed I needed to go to the ER. We got there, me on one of those gurney things. The triage nurse said I was going to have to go sit in the waiting room, that it wasn't that serious. One of the EMT stood by me with his hand on my shoulder, the other 2 went over and had a quiet conversation with her. Next thing I knew I was in a room getting examined. I've always wondered what they said. We have great EMTs in our area. A few months ago I was dealing with very painful spinal issues. One morning, I couldn't get out of bed. I felt like I was going to pass out when I tried, everything went red. So we called, they came out and were so kind as they got me up. We were heading to the living room, passed the bathroom and one asked if I needed to stop there first. They also said if I needed help again, to call.
HIPPA Laws were broken by the first cretin seen. Make a written complaint.
It's appalling and terrifying how little information there is out there about miscarriage. I can't even imagine how many women probably go through absolutely intense pain and are dismissed by doctors and can't even find information on the internet about how common it is. It took my 5 hours of deep internet search to find the smallest bit of validation
Happened to my wife. Went to the ER for terrible abdominal pain. The doctor told her it was just a tummy ache and she should stop complaining. Gave her a Pepcid, charged $500 and sent her home. The next morning her abdomin was distended, she looked six months pregnant overnight. Went back to the ER, and her abdomin was filled with blood. She had a ruptured ovarian cyst, and had been bleeding all night.
The medical world is very biased against women. Our pain is often dismissed, especially if dealing with a male doctor.
Not just the male doctors but the female ones too, always the same c**p when you go to have your bits looked at,"try and relax, put your hands under your back, take a paracetamol before your next visit" . Always make you feel like it's your fault they can't get the speculum in correctly, even after you tell them your bits aren't like they are in the text book you read at med school, like a lot of ladies, mine's angled slightly forward, none really listen to you,. I'm 52,been having horrendous monthlies for years, usual bs,"it's your age, blah, blah, blah, probably IBS, when was the last time you had penetrative sex? No we can't give you a hysterectomy, we'll try you on the pill first, then maybe the coil or an implant" Doc, are you listening? I'm 52, in pain, and certainly don't need my uterus anymore at my age, plus, I'm in a same sex marriage,. Please listen to us, we know when something is not right.

Load More Replies..."aids is a gay desease" ah, so not only idiotic, but (maybe) homophobic as well!
Same thing, idiocy and homophobicy. (I know homophobicy isn't a word, but English is weird)
Load More Replies...Wow! Do you know what they call a person who graduates LAST in their class? Doctor! Not all of them are GOOD doctors!
A GP ought to know more about common diseases than lay-people. AIDS is an STD, that can also be contracted through blood-transfusion and other mixing of bodily fluids. It STARTED as a gay disease, and had gay people been able to be out in the open and seek help right away, it wouldn't have turned into a gay epidemic.
Goes in for severe cramping on my side, Find blood in my urine “you’re just on your period” I try telling him “I’ve been off of it for awhile now and these are not what cramps feel like.. even bad ones” he insist I’m on my period and sends me home, I had gallstones
Is this person aware that women don't menstruate from the urethra or urinate from the vagina??
While you are right if you are on your period its difficult to not get some blood in the urine. I used to bleed constantly because of endometriosis and my urine samples always had blood in them. But a decent doctor would have checked with her if she was on her period or not
Load More Replies...I was told my excruciating stomach pains were just my period. The bastards in the ER didn’t seem to like my reply, “I am not on my period, you wanna check my underwear?” Nearly got security called on me because I refused to accept their diagnoses that it was all menstruation related. Turned out my bowels were necrotising. But I was a female with lower abdominal pain so OF COURSE it was menstruation. Ugh ….
I had all the signs of a urine infection once and I was told by the A&E dr I was just constipated. Like wtf? He didn't even wait for my lab work to come bac and discharged me. I was so ill I didn't question it and just limped home. Next day, vomiting and fever. Yeah, I had unilateral hydronephrosis and a kidney infection. Then, after admission, they refused to believe me when I said my catheter was blocked and I ended up with bilateral hydronephrosis (that's both kidneys swollen with urine because it has nowhere to go). Ended up in the hospital for 5 days and had to go home with an indwelling catheter for about 2 weeks after and a hell of a lot of antibiotics. I have PTSD from that. Doctors should just listen when we tell them things about our bodies and not make assumptions.
Sorry, this got long. This one triggered me and I had to vent tbh. Thank you for reading.
Load More Replies...I had gallstones, and the pain, though terrible, was not even remotely in the same part of the body as cramps.
I went to the Dr once for blood in my urine. Dr did an exam and found a drop of blood smaller than a grain of rice and insisted red urine was from my period. I was damn near 40 at the time and knew what a period was and that wasn't it. I never did find out what caused the blood as it only happened a few times that day and stopped. What really gets me is that the Dr was a woman, yet still blamed my issue on the period I didn't have at the moment.
I've heard similar stories before and I'm baffled. Are male doctors aware that women can usually tell the difference between period blood and blood in the urine? They don't look the same!
I know that's not the point, but gallstones don't cause bloody urine, so I'll assume the OP meant kidney or ureter stones (which supposedly are among the most painful conditions the human body can get into)
I’m… confused. If OP means kidney stones, then sure, this doctor (if that’s what he is) is a moron (kidney stones really aren’t very difficult to diagnose with symptoms like this). If OP actually means gall stones, MANY people have them asymptomatically and while they can cause severe abdominal pain, they will definitely not cause bloody urine and are most likely a coincidental finding.
For the umpteenth time; women know what a normal period feels like for them!
A doctor put a fetal heart Doppler on my pregnant belly, moves it around a bit and says…”it’s dead.” When I said through tears, what?!! He just casually replied, the Doppler wasn’t working.
I think this one was just an unfortunate choice of words. Not ridiculously insane like others in this list.
Let's hope he apologized profusely when he realised what he'd said

This happened to my mother. She was told my brother was dead and to head to the hospital for a D&C (basically, a medical abortion to make sure everything comes out) at about 20 weeks pregnant. She drives home to get some clothes and sees a sign about God and decides against it. Went to another doctor the next day and there's a heartbeat.
Pediatrician looked at our toddler, standing with a swayback (lordosis) posture, then without considering anything else turned to my wife and said, "she stands like that because you baby her too much."
That was only our first clue that the doctor was a f*****g moron.
Aren't they babies? Shouldn't they be babied?

Grown ups can't be autistic.
Dont you know autism just goes away if we shame people enough? Im 27 and just had a conversation with my therapist this week about the fact that i probably have Asperger's. (We've both kinda been aware of it, we just dont usually bother with diagnosises like that because we both find the usefulness of just adding a label rather limited)
wow what an idiot. i was diagnosed with autism at age 14. im 30 now. Yay i guess im cured then.
Oh I want to say so many bad words with F's and E's and C's and MF's and AH's and the big fat S#!T for brains. I'm so sorry there is so much 'dumb' in this world. They need to be seriously educated.
Ohhh yes we can. I just got my diagnosis a little over 4 months ago, the week after my 50th birthday. Apparently we women are masters at masking, too, so you need to find a specialist who is aware of this. ...Unlike my PCP who snorted derisively and told me I couldn't be autistic...because I made eye-contact.
I am nearly 17 and I have high functioning autism and your dumb a*s of a doctor would tell me it would go away when I turn 18?! Bull s**t it’s not a disease or disorder it’s a archetype of the formation of our brains! Sure some of us are slower but you can be mentally slow because your were born like that as well! We are extremely misrepresented just because someone is an a*****e in a group of nice people does that mean they have a “disorder” no it doesn’t, it’s has ti do how their brain have formed over their life time experiences !
Gotten this one too. There are a scary lot of people who seen to think that autism is just code for "children pretending" or children acting out for attention", a a good number of them are in the medical industry.
same with ADHD, people act like it's an excuse to "not pay attention" or "they just don't want to work" it sucks having adhd and even have proof (i take medication) that i have it, yet sometimes people just go "nah, its fake."

My mum had some symptoms that resulted in a scan of her brain. It sort of looked like she might have a tumor or water on the brain or something.
When giving her the results the doctor said, "Maybe this is God's way of saying it's time."
My Mum, who was in her 50s at the time, went absolutely off on them - God has nothing to do with this etc.
Turns out she was fine. Symptoms were related to something else, and the ambiguous scan results could have been machine or human error.
What the actual f**k. What school of medicine is this? The "we figure out whats wrong just for curiositys sake, then just let you die"?
I used to think doctors were these brilliant people. Highly educated, highly intelligent. Like, emotional intelligence. After going through the cancer marathon with my dad I learned most of them are idiots beyond one narrow field of knowledge but they'll still act like they have the expertise on everything else then. His doctor's didn't much care for me. I challenged them on anything that seemed corner cutting or sketchy.
I've come to believe that highly educated doesn't always mean highly intelligent.

She may have been jealous, and needed treatment herself. That IS NOT an excuse. She should have referred you to someone who was a who specializes in eating disorders. I hope that you are doing better now.
Downside of fat-shaming: if you're to thin you'll get praised and your medical condition ignored! Healthy-thin is o.k. but unhealthy thin is more dangerous than being fat. (But if you're fat like me: get help from a doc, it'll ruin your health!)
this happened to me too! Dr told me people with actual eating disorders actually look skinny, unlike me
When I broke down and confessed my anorexia my family encouraged me to see a doctor to help start eating properly. The doctor referred me to an eating disorder clinic, I asked what I should do until I get the assistance I need from the specialist, he told me to "eat something"!
I was losing weight (hadn't realized how strongly depression was hitting me this time around) and ended up shouting at a doctor that "when a woman says she wants or needs to GAIN weight, YOU *FUKCING LISTEN!!*"

I’d been having acute elbow pain for a while. The doc walks in and just goes “you should cut out all dairy”, without any sort of diagnosis. Then says to cut out all dairy products and lists milk, cheese and eggs. I told him eggs were not dairy. He insisted that they were.
well ofc they are! they come from chickens which are related to cows, which means its obviously dairy! /s
Omg! Don't know why I find this funny, maybe it's the absurdity of trying to imagine it...

Gentle yoga can be good for some pain conditions, but obviously you should have a diagnosis first!
Load More Replies...Is there any medical basis for this? What could dairy consumption have to do with elbow pain?
Yes, it's been shown that the protein casein in dairy products can initiate or potentiate joint inflammation in individuals who are sensitive to it. There's actually a lot of conflicting data whether dairy products alleviate or exacerbate inflammation, but the short answer is "it depends" on the sensitivity and reaction of the individual

I was so f*****g angry.
Totally wrong and unethical by the doctor, yes, but why assume it is the US?
Load More Replies...I'm not in the US, but my MIL came dangerously close to finding out my personal medical history because for a time we were registered at the same GP and my MIL is a nosy b*tch who will ask and pester and throw tantrums and cry if she doesn't get her way, and even the most professional NHS nurse has a breaking point. I prewarned them, and MIL later complained *to my husband* that the nurse wouldn't gossip about me to her after MY gyn exam! She was almost more upset when we registered with another surgery than the fact we'd moved to a different postcode. MIL thrives on crisis (genuine or made up) and we've gotten very good at down playing all medical (and other) issues as far as possible - she *does* respect do not disturb when it comes to migraines and contagious viruses, so I've had more migraines than can possibly be healthy, and my husband has had four "colds" this year alone.
Wow, what a b*tch! Good thing you switched doctors! And the "migraines" & "colds" are absolutely the best way to handle her.
Load More Replies...I messed up my hip a few years ago. Went to urgent care and they told me it was a strained lap band. I told this to my sister-an athletic trainer- and she told me to lie on my side with a pillow between my legs and that would help with the pain. It did not. In fact, it hurt so badly that every muscle I had locked up. My husband has to push me onto my back. Made an appointment Monday morning. When I came in I told the doctor the above, and she rolled her eyes. “It’s a strained lap band,” she told me. “You’re overthinking this. It will be fine if you rest.” I repeated the bit about what my sister told me, and she basically implied my sister was out of her league in dealing with injury and that she’s just making me paranoid. I fought her on it a bit and finally she agreed to examine me. And let me tell you, I have no idea what she did, but whatever it was it was not gentle and it hurt so bad I actually yelled and started crying. Then she had the nerve to look at me and say “Oh. That’s not your lap band.” No f’in s**t, lady. And then she wanted to immediately get back into examining me. I was so pissed I actually put in a complaint. Turns out I’d torn several connective tissues and chipped off a few pieces of the bone. I ended up on medical leave for almost four months. (Worked retail) But I was being a hypochondriac, y’all.
I had a surgeon come in to examine me after installing some hardware for a badly broken bone. Ham-handed bastage poked the incision (nearly 18 inches long) hard enough that the pain made me reflexively punch him in the face. He was not amused. He WAS, however, more careful with me after that.
I had something like this happen when I was young. I worked in retail, and cut my index finger while changing a razorblade in my cutter. The cut went from the middle of the tip , under the nail and to the side. It was deep. At the clinic, the doc comes in, picks up my finger, and pulls open the flap of flesh! I nearly went thru the roof. Then he came back and did it again! He's damn lucky it wasn't me now, I'd have punched him in the face!
Load More Replies...I hate the hypochondriac stuff. I've had specialists and other medical professionals tell me that, when my GP was the one to suggest I see them. It would be for stuff I wasn't there to see her about. She noticed and decided it needed treatment. Last time I had PT, the PT person said I needed to think about how I classify pain. That if it's a level 2 or less then it's basically no pain and I shouldn't seek treatment. It was a fripping 8 when we started four months ago.
I don't understand how these assholes can be so dismissive of people's pain?! How the hell do YOU know what I'M feeling? Are you in MY body? Just because you can't see it or feel it with a basic a*s cursory exam doesn't mean it's not "real". How are so many of these people still practicing when they've let down so many patients?
Don't forget that half of those who graduate from college have a C average or less.
Define unprofessional. I think it is unprofessional to lie to people's faces, but what do I know. For Context, this takes place in Germany. My Grandfather in Law has severe Dementia. He lived alone but my MiL and me visited him 3 times a day to make sure he eats and takes his meds and keep him company. A few weeks ago, he couldn't get up in the morning, said his hip hurt. So, my MiL drives him to the Hospital, but because of Covid she isn't allowed in the ER. So this demented old man sits in the ER for 4 Hours and guess what he told the doctor when he asked him what was wrong? "I don't know" Of course he doesn't. He sat down, right now his hip doesn't hurt so much, he has _no Idea why he is there_ . So, the Doctor calls my MiL and tells her he's fine and can go home. My MiL was sceptical so she asked _point blank_ "Can he move? Can he go to the toilet alone?" And what did the Doctor tell her all _three times _ She asked to make sure? "Yeah, he's fine." He then proceeds to load my GiL up with to Guys to _carry him into the house in a special chair because he cannot manage to walk even that little piece alone_ All of this transpired on a Friday, and we proceeded to spent the Weekand at his place to look after him and help him to the toilet, for instance. On Monday we brought him back in the ER and guess What? No really guess what was wrong with him. _He had broken his Hip_ . This man walked around _3 Days_ with a Handcart with a _broken Hip_ But, sure. He's fine.
In situations like that, they should have allowed his caretaker to be with him
One of them would have been allowed in if they had insisted enough because gramps was definitely not able to speak for himself. Even under Corona regulations you cannot send a completely helpless person alone! People are sometimes too nice - there are indeed situations where you have to channel your inner Karen and make your opinion known!

One Sunday I get a call "I'm on the floor and I can't move", she's got out of bed and her hip's given way, she's crawled across the floor into the kitchen and pulled the phone off the counter. We phone an ambulance and I charge over, ambulance crew are awesome, take her into hospital, check her out again, nothing diagnosed except mild infection. Pain continues, goes to A&E again, "there's a small crack in your hip, it'll fix itself". Eventually she gets a referral to go private, doctor immediately notices that her hip has necrotizing fasciitis, i.e. it has blood poisoning and the joint is dying. She needs a hip replacement, we're now a year down the line from the break and she's in utter agony, nearest appointment 3 months. 2 days before the appointment she falls over and cuts herself (because she can't walk properly).

I love Germany but do they have socialized medicine like England? We, as an American military family, experienced how laid back socialized doctors are compared to American doctors. It was crazy.
Not exactly the same. We have two ways of medical insurance, one being private and one being ... uh, "Gesetzliche" (compulsory health insurance, my dictionary says), in which everyone goes automatically if they don't opt to go private (Or, in case of freelancers and self-employment, you can opt to go compulsory - it all depends on how much money you make). There are several different compulsory insurances and of course several private ones, too, so you have a pick. It is a bit of a two-caste-medicine that way, because private insurances pay more (the doctors get a fixed salary for everyone who is compulsuvely insured but can bill the private patients a bit ... freer) and also pay for more procedures than comp ins. I can't tell you, though, how laid back our doctors are compared to American ones since I never went to an American doctor. Personally, I never had a problem with any of my doctors, no matter what I went for. But I'm pretty healthy, so they never had much to do with me.

I went in to the doctors with a very painful UTI. Doctor said if I wear a skirt as short as I did in these temperatures theres no wonder my “lady area is suffering from a cold”. I needed to go home, change and wrap a blanket around myself to warm it up. She reluctantly agreed to do a urine sample; which showed up blood and a lot of protein. Gave me some antibiotics after much debate and gave me the skankiest look as I walked out. I swear I’m not making it up.
Med school doesn't teach good sense, compassion, or empathy.
Load More Replies...Ive had the opposite issue. My mom and grandmothers would always lay into me to not sit on the ground, or like a concrete barrier or the cold floor because basically it would chill my ovaries/uterus which could cause one to have trouble or be unable to have kids. I was a pedantic nerd and really into biology, so i thought it sounded bogus pretty much from childhood and later confirmed by google, but i just could not get my mom to stop about it. So we were at a doctor, and once u asked him to tell her that its bs. He very logically went "think of the amount of tissue between your outside and your ovaries, you would get hypothermia by the time cold radiated that far up through all that". She says its ingrained in her so she just cant really shake the habit that its something you shouldn't do, but agrees that yeah its probably silly.
I'm not a doctor, but I still know that bacteria can't magically appear just cause you wear a short skirt. The bacteria needs to be there in large enough numbers to start a UTI. Getting cold (sitting on a cold bench or stone for some time, for example) can weaken your immune system, especially if you've had UTI's before. But it doesn't CAUSE them, and you still need to treat it, if you've gotten a UTI.
First of all, obviously what she said was c**p, but you don't even get a regular cold from COLD WEATHER!
Not every Dr can get a 100% pass in exams. Just hope you don't get one with a 51% pass!
I honestly think that health care workers (my daughter is a nurse) are getting so pushed over the dark edge from their endlessly battle of fighting to save the lives of so many mentally ill lost souls, plus … the self-destructive alcoholics and drug addicts … that they are beginning to feel useless and are losing all faith in their own abilities to heal. It's very sad but it's so true.
I do know that it does work in reverse. You can have your personal parts get too hot and too sweaty in summer. But if you address it immediately you can dodge a UTI.
A doctor once examined me for a genital area irritation. He sent away samples for tests. While waiting a few days for the results to come back, he told me I had Herpes. I had been with my wife 10 years at that point. Imagine the next few days where we go off on each other for giving the other one Herpes. Imagine the strain that puts on a marriage with all the implications/accusations of being unfaithful, deceitful, etc... the anger, the hurt, the emotional damage, the betrayal.
I had a bladder infection.
If OP had researched herpes infection, they would know it can be dormant for a decade. Would have avoided some drama.
You mean if the doctor had known about it and informed his patient that it could be a possibility. The burden of education shouldn’t hang completely on the patient.

He is, for all intents and purposes, a gay man but we were together for about 5 years in a heterosexual polyamorous relationship during our 20s. Well, one of those summers, he comes out of the bathroom and says to me "I've got these weird bumps on my junk" and asks me to look. Sure enough, there's red irritation and bumps all over his shaft and pubic region. He goes to the doctor who diagnosed him with herpes (before getting tested back). We both were so damned crestfallen...we'd been hoping to have a baby together and he felt immense guilt at the thought he'd infected me, not to mention the calls we both had to make to others. Week goes by and the doctor calls him back with the results - no herpes, just HEAT RASH! Of course we were relieved but also very angry, we'd told everyone of our diagnosis! Thankfully, our people were just glad we were open and honest about it and harbored no resentments. It could've been handled so much better 🤦🏻♀️
I had been with my partner for 2 years when I was told I had an STI but never once did I think he had given it to me or had been unfaithful and not once did he ask me if I had been unfaithful. Turns out I only had a bladder infection but not once did we turn on each other while waiting for the results.
Herpes can also be dormant in you and break out years later. It's not necessarily an STD
I've never had warts or anything close to it. I had never had any symptoms and never have since.
Similar thing here. I got told I had genital herpes 12 years into a marriage. Cue some tense days until the test results came back that I didn't. But everybody very confused as to what it then was. The third time I went in about it with still multiplying weeping sores I ended up with basically a crowd peering at my undercarriage. But at least one of them finally figured it out. You have young children? he asked, and when I confirmed that I did...Any of them have school sores recently? Sure, I said. Yep, I had school sores down there. Must've transferred on my hands from bathing my kids.
I was weirdly sick for days, so went to a walk in clinic. After a couple tests the doctor walks in and says: who manages your diabetes? I reply: Wait, I have diabetes? She rolls her eyes at me and says: well, you're in your thirties, this is what happens when you get old. Don't worry, the diabetes will take about 30 years to kill you. That's not bad for a man.
So everyone in their thirties and above will just magically get diabetes because they're old? Tell that to my 87 year old grandmother who's never had a blood sugar problem.
And to that Florida pedophile congressman who thinks exercise and weight loss will cure it.

I panicked and talked to my hepathologyst. I dont have diabetes and he was just trying to scare me off. He also got abgry at me for not exercising without reading my reason to be there (general testing for excesive fatigue). It turns out that I have chronic fatigue sindrome and exercise will just make my condition worse. But hey lets give damaging advice to your patients. Why not?
Wow did you see the same guy I did? Lol. I have had CFS for decades but since I had COVID I have breathing issues, like I can't walk through the house without wheezing. Got referred to the cardiologist who told me it was because I'd put on a lot of weight in the last year - yeah no s**t, lockdown and a complete inability to move will do that dumbass - and then confidently diagnosed that I'd had pneumonia a few years ago according to an MRI in my file so my breathing issues were from that. 1. The MRI was 10 years ago; the breathing issues are 2 years old 2. The MRI showed my gall bladder had exploded and flooded my chest cavity with fluid and such not pneumonia. Bitched at my GP and he shrugged and said he's an expert on your heart and said that was fine, ignore everything he said that isn't related to that and we'll move on to the next potential cause of the breathing difficulties. ie the man needs to stay in his lane!

I have never heard one good thing about a walk-in clinic unless it was urgent care.
I'm 53 with a family history of diabetes. My Dr checks my blood sugar levels at every appointment. So far no diabetes. I don't know where these so-called doctors learn this c**p.
My 6 month old son had an appt. with a developmental ped. I was clueless but they kept doing all these physical tests, can he put a raisin in a jar, etc. I asked multiple times, what are you looking for with these tests?? She said, oh we're just seeing where he's at so we can track his growth. I went home and googled it - cerebral palsy. He has cerebral palsy and I had to find out on Google b/c the a*****e doctor would not tell to my face. He's 12 now and I'm still fuming at the doctor.
How on earth can a 6 month old put a raisin in a jar? 99% of them if not more would not understand what they were being asked to do, nor would they have the fine motor control to do that. Something is off here.
I agree. Cerebral palsy is not always known about right away when a child is born. Depends on what happened during pregnancy and birth as to whether they suspect it will be an issue. Infants are only just developing their muscular system so it would be really hard to ascertain this from tests of this nature at 6 months old.

Went in for a UTI and was chastised for being sexually active (and we were trying to get pregnant )at 30 with my husband of 10 years because I “looked young”. Was then sent home with antibiotics only to find out after I finished the round of pills that I was indeed pregnant. Never went back again. Baby was healthy.

My mind actually blew up at that. Chastised for being sexually active? WITH YOUR HUSBAND?! Who cares?! Husband, boyfriend, multiple partners? Keep your damn opinions to yourself and order a blood test or something, yeesh!
I used to only be 42kg (90 - something pounds) and was that weight for about 10 years, so it was actually normal for me. Well, when I was 20 I fell pregnant, and Dr literally had the AUDACITY to tell me to have an abortion, because my body obviously wasn't ready.
"You're not depressed, you don't look sad. You must just be tired!
Here, take these sleeping pills, but don't take them all at once!"
Yay, handing out sleeping pills to a depressed person... Did he win his degree in the lottery???
"Don't take them all at once"?! WTF?! Did this Dr think they were being funny?
I feel like there are too many doctors who don't even have a basic grasp of what depression is, and isn't.
True story. I live in NZ and mental health care here is... It's atrocious. I went to the ER because I was suicidal. Logically, if someone's suicidal they should be put on a mandatory 72 hour hold, right? Nope. Apparently telling the nurses and the "crisis team" that I'd been saving up my meds to overdose on wasn't "bad enough" for inpatient care, and the psychiatrist on call prescribed me MORE MEDS to help me sleep before sending me home. To the house I'd been hoarding pills in. To overdose on.
For the umpteenth time; depression and sadness are not the same thing. Tiredness is a symptom of depression, and you should definitely not give a depressed person a lot of sleeping pills, just in case.
When will people (not just doctor, although definitely in this case) realise that most people (I know because I've battled depression all my adult life) put on a mask such that their inner feelings don't show through. Generally if you see someone with depression looking really sad, worry (and if they're a friend, talk to them), they've likely hit a low point and are struggling more than usual.
Well I’d probably only do that if I was extremely depressed, which you’ve just assured me I am not so…no need to worry, right?
"I honestly don't know what to do with you" - My psychologist at a mental health clinic on an airforce base, who proceeded to never schedule a follow up appointment again.
I was 19 and diagnosed with clinical depression. Dude had a PhD in what to do with me. If he couldn't handle me breaking under the stress of college then I really wonder what the hell he tells veterans.
He’d probably go “so what if everyone died? It doesn’t matter if you have PTSD. It’s all in your head”. I hate such people

One psychologist accused my husband of marrying me for my money (I don't have any). I went to him for anxiety and panic attacks. Used to be a rabbil Go figurel
Possibly he could handle depression with an origin but not a "nothing bad has happened" illness. Doesn't excuse him though, he should have been able to.
Holy $#!+ I wish you'd lodged a complaint. That's exactly the type of person who should NOT be working with our veterans. Or any mental health issue that needs a professional's assistance!
When I was 13, I started the birth control pill for my acne. I was not "active" but this new pediatrician kept asking me over and over if I had a boyfriend and I kept saying no because I didn't. And then she was like "you have a boyfriend" and gave me a look and turned back to her computer. Super frustrating and embarrassing to go through as a literal child.
I was on birth control in high school for bad periods, still am. I make it VERY clear to any doctor that I am in no way active. I just got sick of feeling like death once a month. And then they still proceed to do a pregnancy test on me.
Same thing happened to my little sis, doctor essentially accused her of wanting the pill so she could "f**k around". He was eventually put on leave due to "stress" because there were so many complaints about his attitude. When he came back 6 months later he behaved like he'd didn't give a c**p, he'd give you any meds you asked for without questioning it
>Heart surgery is an out-patient procedure My insurance companies board certified doctor on justifying why no intensive care or recovery would be authorized. In the end, at least on paper my unconscious a*s, with multiple chest drain plugs and on oxygen had to be wheeled out onto the curb, then wheeled into ER and readmitted on account of being in critical condition after heart surgery. Blue Cross really upped the ante on bullying me into dying instead of going though the bother of trying to live without bankrupting myself.
I have blue cross and confirm they're awful. I've had several coworkers qith cancer who come to work in between treatments because insurance says they should be able to work 1 day after chemo
Just wow! In the hospital I work at (not in the US) we routinely send all patients who received heart surgery to the ICU for monitoring afterwards, and we don't even do the really big, complicated procedures
Everyone here in the US complains about our medical care but we will never get socialized medicine because too many people think that will turn us into Venezuela (not kidding).

Back in the 90's, I had a temp assignment once at their office in my city, entering billings from doctors. They put 5 of us in a 20 foot square room with no windows, one AC vent, and those long banquet tables with folding chairs for us to sit in. And they made us keep the door to the room closed. After 3 days of this, I called the temp agency & told them what was going on. The following day we all got moved to cubicles in an unoccupied part of the office. The following week, I requested & was given a new assignment at different company. Horrible company with awful people.
After an appendectomy I had a follow up. Instead of inspecting the incisions on the table like normal, he grabbed my hips and looked down my pants. He said "everything looks really good.... especially that bottom one" then winked at me. The bottom one is just above my genitals. Turns out the top two were infected.
I didn't say male or female patient. I wanna go on record that is not ok to do this to anyone. Some doctors think flirting is ok. It's not.
Load More Replies...An appendectomy should only have one incision, unless you have complications. I know, my drunk doctor removed my appendix, without noticing it had ruptured. So I have an appendectomy scar, a scar from a drawing tube & a doozy of a scar from my belly button to my groin, with an additional silver dollar sized scar from when I woke up & busted several stitches This wasn't repaired, just told to pour peroxide in the hole in my belly.
These days you can have a laparoscopy to remove your appendix. You would then have several small scars. One for a light source, two for instruments and your belly would need to be inflated to allow space to work in.

Had a bad head injury when I was a kid (12 or 13) and saw a bunch doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. Got a little snippy with one of them over something I don’t even remember. Pulled up the medical record years later and she referred to me as a “child of the devil” in her report. Had to make some phone calls to get that “diagnosis” removed from my record.

had a primary care provider write on my med record that I was "Exaggerating and not telling the truth about her medical issues and patient is lying about her eating issues" Had to make a formal complaint against my provider to have it removed from my records and then suddenly a few months later she was leaving.
One of the other doctors should have insisted the comment be removed. Weird religious beliefs should not be a part of medicine.
I was in a nursing home with two broken bones. My roommate left her t.v. on 24/7, even when she was out of the room sometimes for hours. By day 5 I begged the nurses and doctors to turn it off if she was gone, and after 11pm and not turn it on until 7am. They refused. I found out later a nurse wrote 'patient is selfish, demanding, and a bully'. I had bought my roommate a few pizzas and other nice things. I wasn't mad at her (she was a double leg amputee), just the lazy bums that wouldn't honor written guidelines for excessive noise in the rooms, especially at night.

Friend went in to hospital via ambulance, collapsed, severe pain etc..junior doc suspected aortic dissection, no seniors said, she's not dead. Panic, emergency surgery, right kidney had died by then, left 20% damage, never got an apology, despite several meetings later.
I have posted this before, but it seems appropriate. A physician friend asked me one time if I knew what they called the person who graduated last in their class in medical school. "Doctor"....they call that person "doctor".
My physician is a young Korean woman. I chose her for that. She had to work very hard to get where she is, and I respect that.
Nice! So he was free to take you home then? Finally a story with a happy ending. Are you still together?
My meniscus completely tore off + few ligaments in knee and I couldn't straighten my leg. I was forced 7 times to straighten it under different doctors only to pass out or stop it on myself. I was denied MRI because of it. The doctor said it was all in my head and although he didn't say it he sorta insinuated that I was "faking" it. After 3 days of sitting in a hospital the head orthopedic surgeon said I will get the arthroscopy. They found pieces of meniscus that broke off and torn ligaments. Never got an apology from the doctor for saying "it's all in my head". Years later on almost daily basis I have fear from that moment. I feel the pain and any and every slight pain in knee brings back the memories and terror I felt.
Pff of course there was no apology. You gotta throw it at them! "So nothing was in my head it turns out. Was a bunch of bone pieces inside me. How. About. That."

Sadly the medical profession will seldom, if ever, apologise for things. It is partly a holdover from when insurance companies would deny liability for a claim if a party has admitted liability (which apologising is seen as) leaving the, in this case doctor, to pay the entire payout. This is essentially the same as if you've been involved in a car accident, and admit that it was your fault (even if it actually was). In some countries this has been loosened to allow for genuine apologies to be considered as more a "I'm sorry for your current circumstances" rather than "I'm admitting I did something wrong"
So, in EEUU social security services they charge you to breath hospital air, but, do they pay when they commit bad praxis?
"I'll be speaking to your employer later today to inform you're not a real doctor. It's all in your head."
Went to a university gynecologist when I was 19 because I was experiencing persistent/every day breakthrough bleeding for weeks. He asked when the last time I had sexual intercourse was, and when I told him it was a few days before the appointment he said (disgusted sounding) “Euuhh, your boyfriend doesn’t mind that??”

I took my mom to see a neurologist as her PCP suspected she had Parkinson’s. After waiting almost an hour, the neuro came into the room, took a look, told us she had Parkinson’s, then told us to watch some YouTube videos describing what Parkinson’s was, then left the room. The whole encounter was under a minute.
[**Edit**
This seems to have struck a nerve, so I added some info:
Yes, I’m in the US. Bad clinicians can be anywhere, so I don’t think this apathy is due to location. He was also private practice.
We found a much better neurologist who has been treating Mom.
Yes, they still charged insurance. Mom is on Medicare, so it didn’t become crippling debt.
I did not report the doctor because I just didn’t have the bandwidth.]
I was turned down by my PCP for a neuro referral in 2019 to see a neurologist for Parkinson’s because “Why do you want to know?” I’d been really depressed over my deterioration and she probably didn’t want me to go down a rabbit hole she thought would turn up nothing. I moved since then and saw a third specialized neurologist who told me 2 months ago it’s like Parkinson’s but it’s a rare brain issue that has no treatment or cure. It’s kinda like ALS. And that PCP thought I was depressed in 2019! Really, I’m so relieved to know I wasn’t nuts all along that I’m calm about it all for now.
Parkinson's is horrible. If you haven't already, please check out michaeljfox.org
Waiting to find out if husband has Parkinson’s, family dr thinks, hopes it’s a non essential tremor but as we haven’t been able to actually see a dr in the family practice, who knows. I suspect it is. The tremor is now in both hands, has become more pronounced in the last six months. It’s a waiting game for sure.
Going through the same, so far my husband has been diagnosed with Parkinson's white matter brain disease and chronic liver disease. I was not even given a website to visit. ( just finishing a hospital stay for the doctor over prescribing meds and almost killing him with toxicity ( since he did not die, no charges will be brought against the dr.) I don't think this is a reportable offense. You can, however, make a comment of it through the patient satisfaction survey.

My GP asked me if I was feeling depressed. I was exhausted because of insomnia and didn't have a normal facial expression. I told her to ignore it and why. She had to send me to a specialist for my knee. The specialist gave me a lecture about not walking enough outside and kept saying I don't need anti-depressants. 'I'm not on any and not asking for any.' He said I was faking the pain for drugs. Reminded him that I hadn't asked for pain meds either. I asked for you to find the reason my knee is killing me. Told me he knew I was really there just to get pain meds.Told him to not give me any then and just figure out whats wrong with my knee you SOB! Looked at the scans my GP had ordered and said I'd torn something. I'd need pain meds and PT and maybe surgery...and maybe anti-depressants because I seemed to have anger issues and that can be a sign of depression.
Did you lose the 20 lbs? I mean if 12 years of psychiatric care didn’t work…maybe he was onto something?
When I was 18-20 years old, I had emetophobia (fear of vomiting). If I heard that someone in my vicinity had stomach-flu, I couldn't eat, I only managed a few wheat crackers per day. I soon weighed 45 kg to my 160 cm. Now I weight more than double that, and feel much better. The phobia has all but vanished, and I like myself much more than I did back then. In short, depression hits you, regardless of weight.
I had chronic back pain which my (then) doctor thought was all in my head. I walked with a limp because it hurt to lift my left leg. One day as I walked down the hall to her office she said "look at you, walking around like a leper". I changed doctors and the new one ordered an MRI which found two collapsed discs and one collapsed vertebra. Got a cage put in and am now 100%

I went to an ER because I had been having severe, kind of odd, stomach pain (left side), and then my left shoulder started to hurt. A doctor walked in the room, looked at my paperwork, said "You have leukemia" and left. Never said a single word of comfort, or I'm sorry, or anything. It turns out the stomach pain was from the leukemia destroying my spleen. And there is a nerve that runs from the spleen to the top of the left shoulder, which is why my shoulder hurt. I have to say, I called a nurse and told her what had happened and asked if someone could come and sit with me for a few minutes. She was great, very comforting, and other nurses came in later to make sure I was ok. I hope they are rewarded in the afterlife, they will never know how much they helped me that day! Edit: the next day I was transferred to a hospital that is well known for treating cancer, got a great oncology team and wonderful care. I've been in remission for over a year and a half now.
That's horrifying. I'm so sorry you were treated like that. Very glad the nurses were able to help you and so happy to hear that you're doing well right now. I wish you continued success on your journey.

"You should read [Christian self-help dude] to cure your anxiety. Do you want to be taking a *pill* for the rest of your life???" Tbh he may have been an NP, but I wanted to strangle him. To push a religious solution to a medical problem, without invitation, is so insulting and unprofessional. Especially to someone who is, by definition, too anxious to push back. Also, joke's on him. But lets think about it for a second, is it really so horrible to take pill every day? Like what is the actual thing to be scared of. I have healthcare, so theyre free. Its not like its some huge inconvenience. Medication has turned my life around. Occasionally my family asks me how i am, and im like im good, and then they always ask if im thinking of stopping my medication then. And now im like "why the f**k would I?". Its helping, theres no guarantee that once i go off my problems wont come back, i dont have side effects. We have to keep telling people that just because your diabetes medicine worked doesent mean you now dont have diabetes, and not to stop taking meds just because you feel better. But here its the opposite? And yes, there are times where going off your meds is viable and may be a good move, but not just cause you feel better.
Good for you that you know & accept that you literally have to take medication to live a good life! My half-brother had a horrible time with his necessary meds - every time he got better & could actually function in the real world, he thought he was "cured" & stopped taking his meds. He did this for at least a decade before winding up in a mental hospital prison, where he eventually ended his life. Accepting that he literally HAD to take meds would have turned his life around & saved it.

Was given a condescending lecture on how I shouldn't have come in if I just had a cold by both a doctor at a walk in center and my GP in a follow up appt the week following. I ended up getting rushed into resuscitation a few weeks later with a punctured lung that caused a one way valve in my lung where air could escape into my chest cavity but not get back out. Because it was brushed off/not properly investigated it caused a life threatening condition called Tension Pneumothorax where the pressure that had built up over time on one side of my chest caused my lung to collapse completely and started crushing my heart and other lung, and compressing/bending the arteries, veins, and esophagus in my neck. When they put a chest drain into me my chest cavity literally sounded like it was deflating like a car tyre puncture.
This is exactly what I wrote about in the above post, about how that type of doctor is just asking for a incident to happen due to their arrogant and condescending wrecklessness. This kind of behavior is so disturbing.
After having chest pain for 3 months straight everyday, I finally got insurance and went to the doctor's. Told him I'd been having tight squeezing in my chest for 3 months, multiple times every day. After just going through a quick physical, he was getting ready to let me go. I asked if we could do some tests concerning my heart. Doc: "How old are you?" Me: "28." Doc: "You're too young to have heart problems. You're fine." I was just stunned. He wouldn't even run any tests. I quickly switched doctors.
When I started having chest pains 4 months ago I went to the ER. They ran a basic EKG, said it wasn't a heart attack. They said it was my GERD (heartburn) acting up. Got sent home. 4 months later, same chest pain, same ER. This time the doctors actually cared and ran more tests. Turns out I had 3 blocked arteries and had a heart attack. Had heart surgery about 2 weeks ago.
Oh, no! A troponin test takes less than ten minutes and can indicate if you’ve suffered heart damage! It should be the standard of care.

He went to the doctor for chest pains and the doctor refused to do a cardiac cath because he said for someone his age and in his health, it wasn't necessary. He had a completely blocked artery, also known as the Widowmaker. The cardiac cath would have found his condition, he could have been treated and would be alive today. I still think about his wife and kids. They were devastated.
Doctor told me if I wanted to pursue treatment and get a spot on the ward, I'd need to shave all my hair off. Worth noting that the treatment had nothing to do with my head lol. She had no bedside manner at all, was rude to the other medical professionals, etc. I told the nurse I was having doubts about agreeing to stay on the ward, but she convinced me to give it a try. First thing the doctor greets me with that first day was, "Hi, remember me? I'm that doctor you hate." What the hell kind of way is that to talk to someone sick and mentally distressed???
Years ago I had to have a small procedure in a day hospital. As I was going to have a general anaesthetic I had to have someone with me so my mum offered. Had the procedure and came out of the anaesthetic and the surgeon arrived to discuss care etc. As he was leaving he said "Oh, get your hair cut and shave off that beard....you look a bloody disgrace". I was still a bit groggy and didn't really react but my mother went off on him! I've had dealings with him since and he is still an arrogant d**k! He's a highly regarded and respected surgeon but even his nurses dislike his attitude.
That's disgusting. He shouldn't be allowed to speak to people like that by the facility that he works under.
Load More Replies...No, just arrogance, and thinking it's funny to do things like this to people with mental illness.

When my thyroid antibodies were sky high (indicated Hashimotos) my fertility specialist said “we will deal with it if and when you get pregnant”. I ignored her, found an endocrinologist, and was pregnant within 60 days.
Untreated Hashimoto can actually prevent women from getting pregnant or cause a miscarriage along the way. What an idiot!!
When I was 8 years old I was at the dentist for a cleaning. He mentioned that I had a frenulum under my tongue, which is a small, unneeded extra piece of tissue that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth... He said that he could remove it, his reasoning being that my future girlfriends would appreciate it if I had a more mobile tongue...
They cut this when i got braces at 9yrs old, accidentally or on purpose i don't know, and then told me not to worry, it's excess skin and will only hurt for a day or 2. It was years!
We all have a frenulum under our toungue (and between our upper central gum and the tissue above your lip). The size varies from person to person and only needs cutting if it is excessive as it limits the mobility of your tongue and subsequnetly may interfere with swallowing and speech but in such cases it is usually dealt with long before 8 (usually before 12 months). Wouldn't be letting my dentist do this either
I told the doctor I had IBS, and he said "It's just stress! I'll bet if you got an all expense paid trip to a nice beach you'd be cured." I had that exact scenario happen to me several times (Rich Uncle), and I still spent most of my time in the bathroom.
Funny how IBS just doesn't go away because of a pretty location. It didn't for me either.
IBS is stress related, but not to stress situations, just more to constant basic tension level of your personality. Still you need some medication for it and it definitely isn't easy to live with.
I went to see a doctor for a potential hearing problem. This a*s of a doctor clearly didn't think I should have problems like that, because he looked at me with the deadpan expression of someone working very hard to keep his face under control, and said *Have you tried paying attention?*. Well, thanks, doc! I wish I'd thought of that earlier!
@Stephanie L. Thesing Whats wrong with you? I've seen you comment things like you were there, but you weren't. How do you know they were lying?
She really is getting quite boring, isn't she? No creativity at all.

Not a doctor but a nurse
And it just happened recently
I was hospitalized with due to a pretty bad car accident. Unfortunately due to the surgery and general trauma while I could feel the urge to urinate I could get the muscles to relax so I could urinare on my own. For the first day they were just doing in an out catheters whenever I said "hey I got to p**s and I can't please help" it was uncomfortable but I managed till I got to the night nurse
Told her at 8:30, hey need help with this, she does a bladder scan says "not enough urine right now", 10:30 rolls around and I tell her again and she's like I did the bladder scan you're fine, 12:30 "I did the bladder scan at 10 its not enough urine" so now she lies to me
I finally get her to do the catheter at 4 in the morning where she proceeds to take out 1.3 liters of urine out of my bladder
The fact that I’m currently holding a 1.25l bottle of coke makes this comment even more frightening to me… that something that size can be inside someone and be declared “not enough urine”
that is approx. 800% filled urine container (dont know the english word atm)
Load More Replies...I know nurses are deeply stressed and overworked right now, but this is still not right. She could have figured out some way to help you.
The nurse probably needs to either check the batteries on the doppler or read the manual on how to use it... That much urine in a bladder can cause significant damage to both the bladder and to the kidneys as the urine will start backing up. The body will, to a certain degree, compensate by reducing the amount if urine being produced but it can't unmake what's already there.
We already know you don't know what you're talking about, but Google "distended bladder" and get back to me

He told me nothing was wrong and I don't have the capacity to handle a simple sprain. Sent me off with few basic painkillers. After a second opinion and few scans, found out I had 2 disc bulge with thecal compression. Also had an inflammation in my SI joint.
That's so awful op, i feel you. I was bedridden in agony for almost 2 months before my dad had to angrily demand my doctor give me painkillers and come and have a proper look at me because this was obviously not just a strain. The doctor janked me upright and when i cried out in pain he told me I was overreacting but he did order an mri. I had to be brought to the hospital on a stretcher but even the nurse there basically told me I was overreacting and treated me with indifference. After the scan she came running at me all worried and apologized because i had a herniated disc that was so bad that my nerves were basically unable to move within my spine and i had to be operated. "You must have been in so much pain?" You don't say??!?!? Hugs for everyone on here that wasn't heard or treated properly, we deserve to be heard and we matter!!!
My mom never went full antivax, but she was very into holistic type medicine and other nonsense. When I was in 5th grade I needed a vaccine for school so she sent me to some holistic place. The alleged doctor seemed like she was very nervous from the start of the appointment. She stuck the needle in my arm, let out a quiet “uh oh,” then collapsed to one knee on the ground. The needle was still stuck in my arm, gently bouncing up and down. The “doctor” stood back up and apologized for almost passing out. She said she had never given a vaccination before. I’m kinda surprised I’m still alive at this point, and I’m curious about what was actually injected into my arm. I googled the doctor later and she does have an MD listed next to her name on her website, but I’m suspicious that stands for “mock doctor” or something.
I give injections (not vaccines) on a regular basis as part of my job and for the first few years after I graduated (25+ years ago) I'd have to face away from the patient so they couldn't see how nervous I was (it also helped hide the needle/syringe from the patients sight so it was a double bonus)- never passed out (nearly when I was viewing a surgery in the OR and had to make a quick exit) but á few light-headed moments. doesn't faze me in the slightest nowadays
My parents are only antivax against HPV vaccine because "i am a boy and won't have sex till i am 40". Normally it is now for every adolescent but i will get that when i am 25 or so because when they see a missing vaccination they will do it.
You don't say what country you are in, but you can get any vaccine you want as soon as you are legally an adult. It's also more effective if you get it before you turn 25.

She didn’t do any tests, just asked me If I had a husband or a boyfriend, when I said no, she deadass said I should find one and get some d**k because that’s probably all that was wrong with me. And then she prescribed me an anti-depressant which I didn’t find out it was an anti-depressant until I went to get it from the pharmacy. Never went back to her obviously.
It would seem that along with Stephanie L Thesing, gynecologists are high on the list of not believing patients!! 🧐
Its because medicine was never focused on women. Only now medicine research is done in female patients. Most doctors learned extremely sexist things in med school and gynecologists, dealing with women, seem to be the worst.

Went in because I thought I had a UTI. I had been on birth control for awhile, so having to go do the whole “pee in a cup” thing wasn’t new to me, but I did have to give a sample at this appointment. No big deal, I know the drill.
The doctor gets really weird about it. He keeps asking me if I know how to give a sample, if I need to know any details on how to do it. Mind you, this after I’ve already completed the sample, which he is aware of, and it’s literally clockwork at this point it’s so easy, I know I didn’t do it incorrectly. He keeps pressing me on the whole peeing in a cup thing, and he goes “do you ever get any on yourself? Do you get pee on yourself?” To this day, I swear it had to have been some fetish or something, because I was appalled. One, no, I don’t have that issue, and two, why is he so interested in it???
Actually, most people do give samples incorrectly, but yeah, this sounds a little weird. For reference, to give a sample correctly: you need to clean the area around the urethra with a wet wipe throughly, uncap the container and do not touch the inside of it or the cap. Release some urine into the toilet to clear you urethra of bacteria, collect the needed amount in the cup still being careful not to touch the inside, the finish peeing into the toilet. Basically its about only getting any potential bacteria in your bladder and not the stuff thats generally on your hands/surfaces/genitals and in the bottom of your urethra. If a sample is contaminated, they can usually tell, but it does make it diagnostically worthless and you gotta do it again.
The procedure you describe is for a "clean catch" urine sample. Not all urine samples require that.

Doctor: Staring in Shock Me: Staring in Anger Doctor: Well the nurse can help you at the front desk He walked out very quickly.
Stephanie L Thesing is just sharing their opinion. Ignore and move on. Don't let one's comments ruin your day. Its more annoying that so many people are bullying and pointing out their comments, drawing more bullying attention. If you don't like it, or don't agree, either respectfully declare you don't agree or just move on.
During a gynecological appointment, my male gynecologist, prepping me for an exam, begins dousing my vagina with the lubricant they use and tells me “We just need to marinate it first”… which seemed a little inappropriate but I have to be honest it gave me a good laugh.
Unprofessional, but at least you weren’t dismissed about something
Another one of those "know your audience" moments where that would be a good laugh with the right person.
Definitely. Once you've established that report with your patient, comments that, in another context, might be slightly inappropriate/weird can certainly help allay any anxiety/stress.

My doctor through the whole this was lovely - explaining everything and keeping it lighthearted. Anyway, as she was applying the gel to my chest and (slightly too large) belly she asked if I wanted to know the sex! Did the scan and told me that my heart was fine but as she was leaving she turned and said "Oh, by the way John.....congratulations! You're having twins" 😁 Know we're supposed to be complaining about the doctors but she was brilliant and had the best bedside manner ever.
And it can go both ways. One of my mom's older friends went in for a gyno exam, and she draped some fake spider web over her crotch, complete with a plastic spider. She said when the doc lifted the sheet to start the exam, he just about fell off his stool laughing.

Should have asked how he paid for his medical degree. Bet the money came from someone.
I would have told the doctor "he's a Nunya". That line of questioning is completely out of line.
It's even more out of line if you think of it as the doctor hitting on them. He's got a well-paying job and is saying that? Plus, he knows OP has a boyfriend and says it regardless..

You have my deepest sympathies. I hope things are better for you now. It is so hard to be a child and not be able to advocate for yourself or make decisions.
I told the doctor I think I have a drinking problem and he asked about how much I drink a day. I responded like six pints of ipa. He said that’s not really a problem. Also failed a hearing test and I asked what should I do next. Try again next year
Was this the NHS? Brilliant if there's blood, not so good for non-emergencies - can't afford to treat those, even though early intervention would save money in the long term.
I think you walked in the wrong door. The room you accidentally ended up in was clearly hosting an audition session for either idiots or clowns. Drinking guidelines are no more than 2-3 standard drinks a day with at least one alcohol free day a week. 6 pints equates to 10-12 standard drinks a day (assuming its 4-6% alcohol by volume). Hope you found a real doctor and got the support you needed to turn things around.
Alcoholism is not really about how much a person drinks. It's more about being unable to stop when your really want to.
She tried to give me essential oils and told me to come back tomorrow while I was having a life threatening allergic reaction. My throat was swelling up and I couldn't breathe, my eyes were swollen shut and covered in puss, my whole body felt like s**t. This was all after she had been advised by the ER to give me a shot if I came in with the reaction. Her office is closer than the ER so they told me to go to her next time instead of wasting that precious time driving myself all the way to the ER. In the end I had to drive myself the 45 minutes to the ER AND the 10 minutes to her office plus the time that was spent arguing with her to save my f*****g life. Yes I have an actual doctor now, even though she used to be an actual doctor.
Went to GP because I felt a lump/pain in my left breast, at 26 y/o. "Don't worry, 99% it's nothing." - ended up being cancer. Thankfully I went to get scans done privately instead of listening to her & am now one year past treatment. I know she probably meant well, but just don't say stuff like that just because your patient is "young". :)
When I was a kid I had to get dental surgery and have a few teeth removed. I was probably 5 or 6 at the time. When they gave me the Anesthesia I had a really bad reaction that made me feel like I had to pee. I kept trying to go but nothing came out, it was just a strong sensation. After 1 or 2 trips to the bathroom the dental surgeon got really frustrated and yelled “just sit in the chair and pee your pants, I don’t care”. After the surgery we left and my mom refused to pay him. Still hasn’t been paid to this day.
Good for your mom for standing up for you! I had a similar procedure at about age 8, and I had an out of body experience from the anesthesia. I can remember floating near the ceiling and seeing the dust on top of the glass globe of the light fixture. I had the whole experience, just like you read about near death experiences, I could look down and see my body and the dentist, saw the Light, traveling through what I perceived as "the universe": and this amazing feeling of being loved and safe. I remember every bit of it even now, and that was 55 years ago.
My stomach doctor told me there was no way I had sjogrens when a week before I was literally in the same office she worked in, getting a lip biopsy to see if I indeed had sjogrens( I do). She didn't believe the notes she saw on her computer and left the room to go consulted with her colleague who did the biopsy whether I was actually diagnosed with sjogrens

"You have a deviated septum" "How can you tell? I'm 25 and it's the first time anyone's told me this." "Dude... just look at your face.."
To be fair, it was pretty obvious I had a deviated septum from the 4 times I fractured my nose. It is something that can be diagnosed visually without a physical examination.
I had a deviated septum, but they kind of.. you know... had to scan my head first.
I had the same problem been with an allergist since i was like a baby. The doctor i saw changed periodically but the office remained the same. Right after high school i got a new doctor and he said i had a deviated septum. First time i was told that. Had the sugery and now i can actually breathe thru my nose. It was always mega clogged before. Same office this year, the lady i saw asked if i snored at night and that my mouth seemed narrow. Suggested a sleept study. First time hearing that. Would have help every dental visit that made me feel like i was splitting my lips to open enough for them.
