Beyoncé is overrated
Her company Ivy Park pays workers in Sri Lanka 64 cents an hour. "Queen B" runs a sweatshop and sells overpriced trash.
Sorry but true... don't get me wrong, I like some of her songs but everyone acts like every single thing she does is magic and some of it is just ok.
I cannot agree more. Not a fan of beyonce, the last song I liked of hers was "If I were a boy". I actually prefer her music when she was a part of destiny's child.
Any song she covers, especially holiday songs, is torture. She adds way too many flourishes and runs. She's a great singer but it sounds like she is overcompensating
Preaches about rights and has her clothes made in sweat shops 🙄 but she was also in an interview regarding her perfume and was asked to spray it on one of her pulse points and she sprayed it in her hair... So
hrm. since that's blatantly and obviously true...i'm not sure it ought to be considered an unpopular opinion...
Ask her crowd. The bee hive!!! Strange ppl who will fight you whenever you question your royalty!!!

Sometimes producers should have more credit than artists
Since a producer can record a fart and process it into a Beyoncé hit, that so true.
And all the singers do is screech out some bad vocals and then autotune and stutter them until you can't understand what they're saying.
Load More Replies...Update: sometimes the producer IS the real artist while the "artist" is just a puppet
Some artists are like the people doing commercials. They show up, they get paid, but the product they are peddling has almost nothing to do with them.
Just recently have I been put up to paying attention to production. I think people should know more about that art. Also - if a producer is good, he gets a lot of credit. Just not publicity, but that's maybe also a bit by choice.
Most mainstream musicians focus more on their theatrics and personas instead of music so a lot of it sounds the same and it’s bland
And then there was Freddie Mercury's Queen...theatrics, personas, AND awesome music. Hat trick.
Theatrics à la Freddy Mercury can add to a show but the music has to be solid.
Browsed 400 songs yesterday to find some songs that stood out for one reason or another. Found exactly 6 songs which I found good enough to save. And another 1,7 TB of music files to go.
Isn't that kind of true about performers across the ages? I don't think true talent is always as appreciated as spectacle is entertaining.
That's a big reason I don't like BTS (don't attack me.) I feel like they focus more on their age than their music.
I am a bit scared of the perfection they depict. I'm not hating on them, they're probably truly talented. I'm just wary of how much of that is true and how much is 'made' and what the costs to the singers will be in the end. Also ... what if they#re basically fraud, how many kids and adults will shatter when their idols aren't what they appeared to be? (Not saying that is the case. It's just what makes me a bit scared of and about them)

Instrumentals are heavily underrated
500 years of dominating the classical charts has already established that; can't see how that's flying in the face of public opinion.
Most young people are unaware of musical history, even 20th century music, so they don't even realize they're being fed oatmeal when past generations grew up on full flavored variety. Now is five main producers churning out the same sounds with a drum machine. Banal has always been with us, but now it's all banal.
Old Apocalyptica and their metal is and has always been fantastic. Especially the album that they did with many other prominent rock artists that actually sang songs with them. It was fabulous. Not too many things are better than being able to feel the music. While I love artists of many genre, music alone can be extremely powerful.
YES! Such a great band. Their self titled album is epic
Load More Replies...I love listening to instrumentals, often you notice subtle melodies in the instrumental that you wouldn't normally really notice otherwise. x3
Unfortunately, there is too often a person who sings meanwhile and who ruins everything.
perhaps i took crazy pills this morning inadvertently....but again....this is nothing at all like an unpopular opinion...
I don't mind some instrumentals but I do prefer songs I can sing to. My faves are secret garden by zimbignew, explosive by bond, wizards of winter by trans Siberian orchestra, roundtable rival by Lindsay stirling, bloodstream by Tokio meyers, just to name a few.
Elton John doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves as an all time great. He should be discussed as a Top 5 solo career all time with only Elvis and MJ really being clear cut above him. But no one ever even brings him up in those discussions. I've never seen anyone able to write a coherent and borderline hit level song as quickly as Elton. Give him a sheet of words, they don't even have to be lyrics, and you'll have a hit in 5 minutes. If you don't believe me search "Elton John oven manual song" on YouTube.
Come to think of it... can't disagree with this. That being said, I'm off to listen to tiny dancer
Don't forget to credit Bernie Taupin when you credit Elton. He was lyricist on many many songs.
Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics of many of Elton John's hit songs. Watch the movie Rocketman where this is talked about or this article https://www.grunge.com/315365/the-untold-truth-of-the-man-who-writes-elton-johns-lyrics/
Absolutely. The magical combination of Elton John's music and Bernie Taupin's lyrics is *chef's kiss*.
Back in the 80's/90's I remember seeing one of those 'an evening with....' type programmes with him in, and he had members of the audience calling out lines for him to put to music. I seem to remember him creating a cracking melody for some washing machine instructions!
Soundtracks from tv show, movies and videogames are as good if not better than original music.
Final Fantasy, Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, Dragon Age, D:BH, Shadow Warrior, Bastion (so incredible!), Brutal Legend, Yakuza... I could go on, but I would like to hear the video game OSTs others enjoy.
World of Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Guild Wars 2, Halo, Hades, Destiny amongst others, the list can be very very long. I bet I forgot to mention a ton as well : D But it's cool to know others, like you can appreciate OST-s, be it for video games or TV shows or movies.
Load More Replies...Soundtracks continued on with symphony level creation while pop music stagnated into repetitive formulas.
U2 is boring
I loved their early music as a teen in the 80s. Joshua Tree was a masterpiece, so was War.
As a U2 fan I am offended - but like what music you like, I guess.
Naw, this is an "unpopular opinion" that will soon switch the other direction, when some Gen Z kids discover War and The Unforgettable Fire.
Indeed, 1991's "Achtung Baby" was their last really good album.

You can still be considered a fan if you’ve only listened to one song but still respect the band. It’s so frustrating seeing people call others fake fans for only knowing like 3 songs. It doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy the music
this is super true; i believe it's worse to be a toxic fan who says stuff like that than a "fake" fan
No, you can be considered a fan of the song in question, but not if the performers if you don't even have the interest in know what else they have to offer. Nothing particularly wrong with that, is but liked being a fan of an artist is an exclusive club that have any real benefit (well except maybe actual oficial fan clubs) is irrelevant really, but words have meanings
Yeah, no! You're just justifying &making excuses for the "you're not a real fan thing. People can be a fan even if they only like or know 2 songs. Yup.
Load More Replies...So we now are even polarizing fandom? If I like 3 songs from one group or singer I'm not calling myself a fan. I like the songs, that's it and they just are coincidentally performed by that group or singer. Could have been any other artist as far as I'm concerned.
Exactly. I always liked the songs that were played on radio of Fallout Boy, and I have a few songs that I truly love. But I wouldn't even think of calling myself a fan. Once you become a fan of someone, you know the difference 😁
Load More Replies...Many bands don't have more than one or 2 good songs, so if being a real fan means listening to crap just because It's Farty and the Hootfish, then no thanks.
Fandom in general. "You didn't know that Batman once had a tiny clone of Bruce Campbell from Army of Darkness on his utility belt in the background of issue 4.500,500 of the 50th incarnation of the character for one frame? How can you call yourself a fan?"
I can't stand the hardcore fans who'll interrogate you about band member's birthdays as soon as you mention you like the band. I don't know man, I'm not a Wikipedia page, I just like the music.
Yeah so true and just cause I only the chorus and you can go word for word doesn't make you more of a fan than me lol
Yes! I find it so hard to remember all the words of any song, yet I still love the song itself.
Load More Replies...The word fan does come from the word fanatic. A casual listener is not the same thing as a fanatic. Fanatics are extreme obsessives. Think Grateful Dead fans that can tell you what cassette recorder was used by which fan at which free concert was used to record that particular version of a song.
Okay you've changed my mind with logic and reason. You're not by definition a fan unless you're obsessed. I'm definitely not a fan of any famous person. It's truly unhealthy and strange to worship a person like that.
Load More Replies...Even though it droves me crazy, you can still enjoy the song even if you don't know (or can't understand) the words. 🎶 When a man loves a walnut 🎶
As everyone above has said, it does come from the word fanatic, but I don't think it has that literal meaning anymore. It is more synonymous with 'like' now in my opinion. As in 'I'm a fan of ice cream' means I liked it, not that I am obsessed with it and research the history of it.

For the most part the past 2 decades have been more about the marketability and/or ability of a person to be controversial than actual musicianship and talent.
I believe what this means is that the past two decades have been more so like this compared to the past? I don't know, that's questionable. Controversy sells, it's been like this for ages.
I agree with you but I’d also add that prior to auto tune and digitalizing everything, the pick still had to be from at least semi-talented folks who were also controversial and hopefully good looking. Now we can just take marginally well known people with good looks who are also controversial and make them a whole singing career. It’s a subtle difference but it’s there.
Load More Replies...Longer than the past 2 decades. Nostalgia is distorting your perspective of the times before that.
That and people don’t consider the implications of the internet and how digitalizing the music and production and access really amped up what was already there.
Load More Replies...Case in point...Taylor swift and Justin Bieber, neither one can sing at all. They're both auto tuned. Listen to them live...cringe
A brave point, well made. But now you're gonna have to reap the whirlwind of Bieliebers! They're coming for you! Beware!
Load More Replies...I mean... we can argue it was just as prevalent in the 80s, don't get me wrong... love me some 80s music but it was all about who could wear the tighter pants, the more hairspray, act the most outrageous on stage... for every talented 80s musician there were at least 3 mediocre or even bad ones.
The last time the charts were full of people who got there on merit, playing popular original music WAS the 80s! That whole OTT thing was what the 80s was all about.
Load More Replies...Eras of consumerism and capitalist expansion say the pop of the 80's and the last twenty years seem to coincide with a marketing first attitude. The era of 90's indie / grunge bands and early rap were real outliers. Whether you did or did not like the music, those acts were not the easiest to package and sell.
"Last two decades" HAH HAHAHAHAHA! Please name that halcyon time when artists were truly revered for talent and musicianship, and marketability was secondary.
From the late 60's to about 1977. The golden age of Classic Rock. Music mattered more then I think.
Load More Replies...Well, that's what you get when corporate execs make music instead of artists. They know it'll sell because their research and development accurately delineated the lemming demographic. 90% of the music industry is just a popularity contest.
Every time somebody says that rock is dead I laugh really hard because I’ve heard it before... in 1978 from disco kids.
Yea, rock is very much not dead, since a rock band won one of the largest song competitions in the world (Eurovision)
There is always good rock music, if you are willing to find it. Rock has an amazing ability to reinvent itself every decade or so. Anywhere there are angry/frustrated young men and women willing to pick up a guitar and express their anger/joy/frustration/hope, there will be many youthful ears to listen and inspire and be inspired by them. It may have been replaced by hip hop as the dominate expression of youth culture, but its pulse still beats strong. The kids will always be alright.
Pffft, Rock is alive as ever before. In 1978 I was an anti disco kid in that respect, Punk and Hardrock were booming underground. Now, as an old metalhead, I still am overwhelmed with plenty of new stuff.
I waas a wee child told "rock is dead!" then told "disco is dead!" and I was listening to punk, so eff 'em all!
Gatekeeping is just as toxic in the music fan base culture as it is in any other fan base. I don’t need to know everything about someone to enjoy their music. Thanks, though.
Sometimes.... it's even better not to know. There's artists who make great music, but then you find out they're assholes at best, literally criminals at worst.
you can say asshole but my w***y gets censored!?
Load More Replies...Agree! I'm awful for remembering names of bands/songs etc - just let me like what I like - if I hear a song I like I just get Alexa to add it to my playlist so I've a total mix of everything and know no one
Agreed. I made the mistake of classifying some group in the wrong subgenre and some guy reacted as if I'd slapped his mom.
hrm. yeah, unfortunately with the Big Brother mindset that's become all the rage....this pry is an unpopular opinion. but it shudn't be...
People who only listen to one genre of music are suspect to me!
My 15yr old cousin filled her Blues & Jazz folder on her Ipod with rap music. Fooled us all lol
Why? It is you that seems irrational & strange to think someone who only likes 1 type of music is suspicious somehow. Smh.
Duke Ellington said - "There are only two types of music; Music and Music done badly."
Agree. I used to loath country music. Mostly because I loathed red necks--but that was pretty foolish of me. Music is everything to me, so why would I cut myself off from an entire, massive genre of music because of my own petty prejudices? My mom loves old country and western, so I began listening to it with her to make her happy. Guess what? I learned that there is a vast amount of country music that I enjoy. Mostly stuff recorded before 1980, but not only.
Load More Replies...I listen to a wide variety of genres, from rock to work beats. If the music is good, who cares what it's called?
There was a study recently that people reach a musical "peak" at ... uh, I think their thirties or forties. They have settled into their world and like to stay in the known of their comfort-music. I never reached mine, so I'm still exploring other things than I used to. But I've got a very colorful playlist already
I have heard that, but I hope it's not true. I only actually started enjoying music at 25, 7 years ago, so I don't want to only have about 10 years of enjoying new stuff.
Load More Replies...Rock, classic rock, soft rock, country, country western, hip-hop, even some Mexican music I've forgotten the name of. My playlists always have odd stuff showing up.
Mine too. I never liked rap very much when I was younger, but then I heard some Aussie rap so added that to my options. I don't think there is any genre that I don't like at least one song.
Load More Replies...Blasting your music makes no sense to me. I hate loud music. Play it at a volume you can hear it at. That’s all you need. Your neighbors don’t need to hear what you’re listening to.
I dont agree, I love loud music, I love to submerge myself in the music so it drowns everything else out. It is my safe place and it is where i go to escape the world.
Yes, blaring your music is obnoxious. If you do this, no one thinks "Wow, what a great song!".....we think "Wow, what an inconsiderate a s s hole!"
sometimes its a way to let out your emotions, or drown out the other sounds of the world
Some artists need to be heard loud to appreciate them. The band Live is so much better loud
I want to feel that music, all over you, all over me.
Load More Replies...To paraphrase Mr. Rogers, you have a right to listen to your music and make noise but I also have a right to quiet. You can listen to your music without me hearing it. If you can't you need to see a doctor (not Mr Rogers).
I don't always listen to Megadeth. But when I do, so do the neighbors...
that's true, i enjoy my music most when i listen it with my headphones on
I don't like it but I can put up with it if they're in their car. The one that drives me berserk is when they get out of their car to go inside a store and leave the music blasting. I guess we're supposed to be impressed with their playlist.
It's a cry for help. Possibly a kidnapping scenario. Regardless, it's in the same thing as lift kits, low riders, etc. (i.e.-"Please...tell me I matter!")
Load More Replies...While I do not enjoy trunk-rattling music at a stop light, or driving past my house in the middle of the night, I do enjoy some loud music. I have a standard-issue stereo in my car, that I like to play loud on the highway, but I try to be respectful. In my house I have a decent setup, with a couple tower speakers, a sub-woofer, and some remote speakers around the house, and when I'm home alone? I blast that thing. My house is far enough from the neighbors that I doubt it bothers them (never had any complaints), but I have seen people walking down the street out front, looking at the house like, "what the hell is going on in there?"
Just because it’s classic rock doesn’t make it good
True. But just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not good. I'm not a fan of freeform jazz, but I can still respect the musical talent that produces it.
I can't listen to 'Classic Rock' radio stations, they all play the same overrated "Hits". Where is the real rock music?
I hate it! How can they only play 3 Toto's songs or like 5 Elthon John's? Led Zep: Stairway and like 2 more... give me a fakin break!!!
Load More Replies...sure. just like all cars qualified to called classic....are not necessarily good, or even decent, or even acceptable. not seeing the unpopularity here, though...
there are The Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks etc., and then there are Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Boston and Boston.
"Classic rock" is the genre you listen when you turn suddenly 50. Very standardised catalogue of "hits" taken here and there randomly off some artists' more huge body of work. If you're a fan of "classic rock" firstly you ditch completely the radio (or worse, Spotify), go to a record store and buy a plethora of stoner/prog/space rock cds or better, vinyl records (if used, even better). You drop Hawkwind's "X In Search Of Space" (we're talking '71 here) in your player and your speakers will be blown away. You're lucky if daddy left an interesting record collection behind.... My record collection is way more huge than my dad's (30.000 vinyls here) and I'm glad there's a good selection of sacred records from the golden age of great rock even if isn't my favourite genre.
Listening to music in languages you don't understand is far more enjoyable than listening to music in languages you do because you get to enjoy the human presence without having to engage with their problems.
I prefer songs in my language so I can sing along to it, but if a song has a good beat, tempo etc then I don't care what language it's in.
I don't speak German but have no problem singing along to Rammstein
Load More Replies...Sometimes you learn a new language by listening too. Music and video games helped me a lot with my English.
Definitely! I learned a bunch of Japanese phrases and it helped with my Spanish as well.
Load More Replies...Don't know why, but I cannot understand the words to the vast majority of musical genres, (except for country & western, which I do not like...go figure). Listening to foreign language songs transforms the voices to another instrument whose sound I can enjoy, rather than part of my brain trying to process and understand the words. I really prefer instrumental music because of this.
Not me trying to sing along to Japanese anime openings and accidentally summoning a demon or something
I can speak 3 languages and understand 5 or 6. They all sing about the same crap.
Yep. Sandu Ciorba--king of Gipsy music. You're welcome. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xd96rp This song is from the soundtrack from the movie Liberte ( also called Kokoro) about a family swept up in the gypsy holocaust during WW2. Heart-breaking but incredible movie, filled with amazing music.
This is very true. I enjoy listening to French Rap, as it's very melodic and story driven. Not about which other rapper has pissed you off.
That I never grew out of my edgy phase because I still enjoy punk and alt rock
I grew up in the 2000's so my go-to's are: Green Day, Rise Against, The Offspring, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Sick Puppies, Paramore, Thousand Foot Krutch, Tonight Alive, Avenged 7x, Red, and Evanescence. There's more but that's a good list. I also have expanded my tastes, but I will always love punk/rock
Me three. Someone else who knows about Red. FINALLY!
Load More Replies...Erm.... I don't see a single punk band listed! I see a lot of Alt rock, grunge and pop-punk revival. Punk is The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, The Runaways, The Saints, The Ramones.
None of that is punk. The Sex Pistols is punk. MC5 is punk. The Misfits, Iggy Pop, The Clash, The Damned, The Adverts...that's punk.
Out of that list there are MAYBE two actual punk rock bands, though: Green Day and The Offspring, and even then I wouldn't be 100% confident in calling them "punk rock". The rest are in absolutely no way "punk rock". Get back with me when you've listened to The Clash, 999, The Damned, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, and (in a rare contemporary example) Rage Against the Machine, and then we'll talk about whether you actually do like punk rock.
The Offspring started out punk, but none of their radio stuff is punk. Green Day is pop punk. Love your list of actual punk, though. 999's "Obsessed" is one of my all-times.
Load More Replies...ahahahah those are not edgy or punk rock. those are main stream radio music. Punk is Propaghandi, The Expoited, Agiasnt all authority, Lars and the Bastards, 90lb wuss, Screeching weasel, jugheads revenge, AFI was really punk before the gender change; than they were just emo goth music. Guttermouth are still going and still vegan and making inappropriate songs, Lag wagon, Social Distortion, Minor Threat, Bad Religion,
Amen! Man, that original hardcore era was fantastic and Black Flag was the best of them all. Greg Ginn is easily my favorite guitar player and I never go far without a little Black Flag (if I may steal a line from The Mats). Rock at its purest and finest! I see kids today wearing The Bars and I love that they truly get and appreciate the music, but can't help thinking, ahhh, if only you were there!
Load More Replies...I grew up in the 70s/80s. Your "punk and alt rock" is my watered-down fluff.
George Harrison was the best Beatle and had the best career after they broke up music wise.
Harrison continued to innovate with great lyrics and melody. This is the man who gave us "While my guitar gently weeps."
Totally agree..most of my fave beatles songs base on his talent
Load More Replies...1000 times yes from me personally. Most of my favourite Beatles songs are written and or performed by George. I just connect to them more. And his career post the Beatles, well my favourite movies were also largely made possible by George. His solo work was good, and then music with the Traveling Wilbury’s was also great.
Hmm, I disagree. Harrison was talented for sure, but what about McCartney and Wings? Can't discount that.
All of the Beatles members had great solo careers. Love all of their solo work.
i dunno if i'd say he was the best. maybe more likely: paul and john monopolized things when the band was together, but he was always just as talented as they were, if not quite as prolific. this will surely hit wrong with a segment of beatles' fans, but wud it be widely unpopular?
I find it impossible to rank them - all have done songs I really love. Three amazing songwriters in one band... The Beatles were just phenomenal.
Eminem is very talented and I can appreciate that. However, to me he just sounds like a p!@#$d off chihuahua.
He is a genius at what he does. I can understand why he lacks broad appeal but if you like the genre then there's gonna be at least a few Eminem tracks on your playlist.
im actually a huge fan of his. beatiful is one of my favorites. i always loved how u can actually understand every word wen he raps no matter which song it is. beautiful however is moving and actually got me thru a bad time which is odd since its a rap song but a song bout walking in each other shoes lets just say someone who harassassed and make fun of me is now a close friend bc i asked them how theyd like it. that song gave me the courage to stand up to her.
More like a poodle.😁 But what I truly appreciate is that he's enunciating very clearly. Everything he says is said very, very clearly. (Yes, even the really fast parts. You just need to adjust to the speed) I love this pissed of poodle. And at least nobody will ever say they only liked him for his voice 😁
I think they're referring to his old pre-2010 stuff.
Load More Replies...You'd sound like a pissed off chihuahua too if you had his upbringing.
Mariah Carey is in fact a musical genius.
What I mean is that for a singer with that kind of voice to have written, co-arranged, and co-produced 95% of her own material is pretty incredible, especially when you take into consideration the way her vocals are layered, her knack for engineering her own vocal climaxes and the way she weaves in different flourishes in each register. Its like she’s paints a canvas with her voice. I simply don't hear as many artists fill an entire song with a range of vocalizations the way she does despite the trashy diva image which I suppose turns most people off.
well, i dunno about genius, really. talented sure. clever enough to understand what works with her voice, sure. but genius? yeah, i have to say that's pry an unpopular opinion.
Meh. Having worked with her, I would say she's very talented. She also has an incredibley talented team of producers and editors. And her diva drama completely turned me off her music.
The most overplayed Christmas song ever. That and Last Christmas from Wham!
Load More Replies...She's overrated for her voice and underrated for her writing, producing and technique. Despite being 50 many people still don't know she writes
I do not like this one so well. All she does is yell, yell, yell. There, I fixed it for you. It's the same caliber of writing as her songs, just in case you want to play it on the radio 300 times in a row for no reason.
Hamilton is so massively overrated it hurts
Hamilton is great, but this is true. people act like it's the greatest thing to ever grace the broadway stage, but in reality it's not. but it is very wonderful!
Hamilton is excellent. Very catchy, and it's educational. People do go a bit nuts for it, though. There are other good musicals too, but some people think that Hamilton is the best one ever.
Load More Replies...It's a good musical, the dancers are talented, the music is good, but it didn't reinvent Broadway. It's not something from heaven, but it did introduce me to musicals
Sometimes musicals drop at the right time. Grease was wildly popular even though it was trash.
I dunno...I was skeptical until I saw it on Disney Plus, and now I want theater to return so I can at least go see the traveling performance live.
I'm so f!@#$%g tired of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They play on every radio station from classic rock to contemporary to weird alternative stations. I can't escape them, and all of their songs sound the same, and I've heard every one a thousand times, I'm just sick of them.
Maybe it depends on what country you live in, cause I never hear them on the radio. I like them.
If you never hear them on the radio that's the reason you still like them.
Load More Replies...That was an amazing album though, probably more so because of my age. I remember it being the soundtrack to one particularly memorable teen summer.
Load More Replies...
Kpop as a genre demands intense amounts of talent. You can watch one of their live performances and it would be clear. That being said, i despise the industry and how it treats its artists.
I like some k-pop songs, but I don't understand those super-fans. A lot of people around me have their faces and merch everywhere in their lives. One friend even made a "shrine" where she kept many posters and photos of them in her room
I enjoy some of the music, but I hate the way most of the industry treats artists, there are better companies out there, like Happyface, who manage my fave kpop band, DreamCatcher, but with some groups like blackpink and bts, I also hate the "stan culture" parts of it are just so toxic and insane...
I have nothing against the artists who perform the songs - but every K-pop song sounds the same to me.
I mostly despise kpop. the artists I respect, but mostly their music is less enjoyable than Skillerex having a seizure on a keyboard. Which is only slightly better than Skillerex not having one.
IMHO...the recording industry is dominated by a bunch of shitty salesmen who just want to move PRODUCT regardless of how similar it sounds to what is popular.
K-Pop artists work hard for their craft but honestly the companies are shitty af.
Even as man of a certain age, I like BTS and admire their talents...their music is fun, but does not strike me as particularly original or memorable. I am sure they are more capable of a more unique sound.
You don't need to be an amazing singer to be a worthwhile, talented artist. Taylor Swift can carry a tune but she isn't incredible, yet she really puts on a show and is a great songwriter. I don't really care if an artist autotunes or edits the sound of their voice, especially if it works with the song. Can't sing or play instruments but youve got Garageband and Autotune DOWN? Cool. You can still make good music in my eyes.
Well, maybe OP is a bit different . *c***s gun* let’s get this alien
Load More Replies...The dude who invented Autotune bloody HATES how singers misuse it. It was intended to be a tool for sound engineers to correct microtones off-pitch without having to re-record the entire vocal line.
Taylor Swift IS incredible and I will go down with that ship if absolutely necessary
Many punk bands couldn't really play their instruments, but learnt by doing. All they needed was having something to say and a place where they can play. Later on, as I just said, some would eventually develop some skills in the meantime, others wouldn't have such long careers. Anyway, be it music, be it painting, or something else - while having skills is important, art itself is not necessarily about technique.
It’s called marketing and many talented people are denied a shot at making it big because they don’t fit the image the industry is trying to sell conversely there are people with little talent but have a huge selling power. The entire industry is so messed up. I bet half the songs popular back in the 60’s and 70’s could get nowhere today
I also like the creativity in her videos and how she does not need to do over the top ridiculous antics to stay in the charts.
“Songs About Jane” is Maroon 5’s only good album.
Adam Levine and his crap band must be one of the most, if not THE most, overrated musical act of the 00's. He can't fkcn sing and his falsetto is utterly annoying.
I don’t know if it’s growing on me or what but after these years I’m actually stating to like his voice
Like lichen - they grow slow but you can#t get rid of them 😁 Honestly, though - there are a few songs I really like. I kinda like "Animals":
Load More Replies...the only unpopular part of this opinion is the fact that Maroon5 don't really have a good album...
I never got the hype for 'Stairway to Heaven' being some all-time great song. It's a good song but that's about as far as I'd go with it.
As with all Zeppelin songs, it's about all aspects of the composition, music vocal and lyrics. Part of you opinion may be the overplay. Try the song performed by Heart. Both Bonams and Paige are amazing. Sorry, have to agree to disagree.

Load More Replies...What I do like about Stairway to Heaven is how it starts out all mellow and then builds and builds in intensity, so that by the end of the song its borderline frantic.
Same thing about Metallica's "One", or "Fade to Black"... or "The Day That Never Comes"... lots of their stuff really. But yes, I do love a good building intensity/theme
Load More Replies...Well, stairway is meant to be a long song, it rises in tempo. In 2 to 3 minutes, you might as well listen to good times bad times or black dog
Load More Replies...Yea, and Hamlet is just a violent and bloody story about some neurotic dane.
The romance between Romeo and Juliet lasted three days and caused six deaths. Truly a love story....
Load More Replies...Try Jimmy Hendrix's All along the watchtower or Voodoo child slight remix both are better then stairway
Nah, that "soaring-ness" three-quarters through is the feeling that ALL MUSIC is trying to capture.
Yeah, im more of a "Highway to Hell" type of person, a song from AC/DC
I think there is just something about it. Whenever I listen to it I find that it is constantly playing of in my mind for the rest of the day, more than with any other song. It is like a musical vortex.
Indie music nowadays has been relegated to Ukuleles, random timed beats and nasal voices
Someone is clearly uncultured. Ever heard of ajr? Half alive? Penelope Scott rings a bell? Caravan palace? Cavetown? Alec Benjamin?
There is more indie music happening right now than you could listen to in a lifetime. A lot of it is garbage - but the good stuff will change every idea in your head.
So looking at another comment on the Indie music post, I wonder why the Indie Music fans thinks they are cultured and that whoever don't know the bands they like are uncultured. What i think when i hear people talking about Indie bands is that they are pretentious.
Does liking indie music and saying I'm not pretentious, in fact make me pretentious? :)
Load More Replies...I LOVE Alex Benjamin but his album 'These Two Windows' gives me PTSD because I listened to it a lot when I had my severe anxiety phase
The first Limp Bizkit album wasn't bad. S#$t went downhill fairly quick after that. Same goes for Kid Rock.
First Limp Bizkit I never heard of, on my opinion their third one, Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog Flavoured Water was their very best. It has its ups and downs though, I never liked the skits. But an amazing amount of singles came from that album. It was funny to remember that when like three years ago I could see them live on stage, about 75% of tracklist were from that album.
Bong with a thong orangutan biggie biggie tiddies had the boogie said dumptruck the wookie (or whatever Kid Rock said)
So glad to see I am not the only one who thinks this. Those 2 albums are amazing, then it went a bit wrong. Overall I prefer Versus.
Load More Replies...Sorry but I strongly disagree - Kid Rock is way underrated and underestimated because most people only know 2-3 songs that have been on the radio stations all the time. If you only like the syle of these 3, you won't lile the other. To me the most known mainstrem "hits" do not reflect Kid Rock at all.
Anyone heard of Limp Bizkit´s The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) EP? It is one of my favourite. It is dark but very heavy. Well worth the listen.
Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
having seen them in concert, I'd say that they're good but not THAT good
nods. yup. unpopular opinion, stolen from a film. swell. very original take..
I love them in concerts, they love playing and it shows. Great energy between them and the crowd. They get into this groove musically together and it's amazing. I have been to see bands that
Sorry , Continued-didn't want to be there or play and just weren't good experiences.
Load More Replies...Jazz is s#$t. It's a group of alleged musicians playing different tunes at the same time. Jazz aficionados that try and claim there's some sort of genius to making a god awful racket talk more s#$%e than wine experts.
You have good jazz and bad jazz - bad jazz is bad, good jazz is good.
I am friends with Hugh Masekela grandsons and I've known the cousins for a decade! Really love the music! A lot of African music so happy and fills my heart! Even when I don't understand.
Load More Replies...lumping all Jazz together only shows how much you don't comprehend music. That's about as stupid as saying "all rock sucks because I don't prog-rock". There are dozens of sub-genres of Jazz, some of them are what you describe, but many are not. There are plenty of Jazz artists where all the musicians are coordinated and playing the same tune.
This kind of thing only comes from people that think 'R&B' is all Hip-Hop! Don't even realise Jazz has been going since before the 1920's! Never mind Mile Davies, pay no attention to Louie Armstrong, forget about Ella Fitzgerald.
Ha! This reminds me that every certain amount of years I decided to buy a ticket for a jazz concert wondering why I didn't go to jazz concerts more often. As soon as the concert started I was reminded of why I didn't go more often... but then years passed, I forgot, and repeated this same story 3 times more until I finally got it 🤣.
Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Eric Dolphy, Charlie Mingus, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Shirley Horn, Betty Carter, Ella Fitzgerald, Wes Montgomery.... Apparently all discordant noise.

Music piracy made music better.
Money as a motivation to make music was basically removed from the equation. Nowadays, the people who make music do so mostly because they're artists. Loads of musicians these days are compelled to create to express themselves, because making music is in their soul, not to pander to an audience and make cash.
Obviously this doesn't apply to mainstream music. Luckily for all of us with Spotify, it's now super easy to ignore trashy mainstream nonsense, dig deep and find some real gems.
This one was written by a choosy beggar. Apparently singers should sing for exposure. For free.
Look this a long winded way to say: "I not only entitled to free stuff, but I'm actually doing them a favor!" Which is BS, based on noting
I am pretty certain the artists want to make a living doing their art.
@ Tom Susala : You mean they got f**ked twice? Firstly by the record company, secondly by piracy.
Load More Replies...No. Nobody has any incentive to devote life, time, resources, attention and discipline to become a good performer, and all we are left with is synth and loop based very basic forms of music. Piracy has led to mediocrity. Please close that filthy jabbering hole, dude
They posted this on Reddit. You can't reply to them here. They won't see this.
Load More Replies...Wow. What an entitled justification for stealing someone else's hard work. Do you think that "loads of musicians" don't need to pay the bills? Have a roof over their head? You're like those annoying influencers: you think you're doing the artist a favor by stealing their music.
They posted their comment on Reddit and will not see your reply.
Load More Replies...Bollocks! Today's music, especially chart music is all about production and marketing. Justin Bieber better for music than Sex Pistols or Bowie? Apparently, artists should work and give their work away for free? Perhaps Pfizer should do the same?
Artists not being able to make a living off their music is a stupid idea.
My unpopular opinion is: sometimes the worst f!@#$%g people make great art, and there's nothing wrong with finding things that appeal to you in the worst people's music (or painting or film). I won't judge you if you like Mayhem after the Dead drama, or Burzum after all the everything that is wrong with that f@#$%^g awful dude who does Burzum.
I must admit I have songs I like to listen to from some really awful people. I like the song but not the person.
It can go too far though. After the lead singer of Lostprophets went down for serious (do not google it) paedophilia, the rest of the band broke up and didn't record again for a few years. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone here who admits to listening to their back catalogue now. No judgement, just it's become so badly tainted.
Yeah, I won't admit to some of the songs I like because of what a singer or band has done.
Load More Replies...If I like a song, I'll never hide it. Throughout the whole MJ business, when people were refusing to listen to his songs, I'd still play them because very few people knew their way round a beat like that man! Charles Manson wrote songs, some of them had great messages, don't mean I like everything he did.
Kind of similar to the sitiuation with JKR and Harry Potter. If you feel the need to boycott something because of the creator then do so, but if someone still enjoys the creative content they can and still think that the creator is pile of lukewarm dog poo
Varg made the worst songs ever, but the "Carioca Funk" and "Sertanejo Universitário" still are the bottom ones
the creator is NOT the created thing. the created thing might be holy hell great....and come from a truly awful creator. (shrug)...not sure this is an unpopular opinion, though...
It is an interesting dilemma, though. Because if the creator is nothing and art is everything, how did the art come ot be in the first place? You can't separate the artist completely. And very often, music becomes tainted (as does other art) by the things the creator has done. As it should, I think - especially if they still get paid for that art after doing awful things
Load More Replies...Foo fighters are average / middle of the road at best
Yes, they're not the best or groundbreaking, i don't think they every claimed to be, but their music is good and fun and they do have evolved
Disagree completely. From the standpoint of a musician, David Grohl's songwriting is brilliantly nuanced and his arrangements are thoughtful and pay a lot of attention to detail.
Plus his collaborations with other artists. He did Probot which was a tribute to all his Heavy Metal influences.
Load More Replies...the answer your looking for is trash. Dave Grohl did his best work after getting out from under Kurts influence
Load More Replies...@Eslamala, I dont know why you were downvoted, its your opinion. Ill probably be downvoted to oblivion, but i agree
ok. I know this is your opinion, and this is meant to be a stream about unpopular beliefs, but really? Red hot chili peppers and nirvana and you say they're bad. Next you'll be saying The Rolling Stones were bad.
Load More Replies...Have to disagree. Dave is an incredibly talented musician and Foo Fighters have a lot of amazing songs.
Dave Grohl is an awesome musician - have a listen to 'Mantra' where he plays with Trent Reznor and Josh Homme.
Modern metal is better than classic. Lots of that is due to better recording technology, I will admit. But also, having decades of other artists to be inspired by means that we get all these awesome fusions of styles, and I f!@#$%g love it. I respect the trailblazers, but the stuff coming out today is better fleshed out, on average.
There's genres of music, but metal is a universe of music on its own with many genres within it. Metal is the only music where national borders mean nothing.
IRON MAIDEN WILL FOREVER BE AWESOME! They have survived for years lol, still active
Most of the old metal artists didn't have a proper musical education. But that's why they were able to invent new music styles and different innovative approaches to playing music. I mean, no one ever thought Jimi Hendrix how to play his version of the Star spangled banner.
*me* correction: metal where they're just screaming their heads of is bad.
Load More Replies...My dude. Has your review of classic metal completely skipped Judas Priest? The counterpoint between Glenn Tipton's classically-inspired, melodic solos and KK Downing's lightspeed shredding is genius. You will not find a better "fleshed out" song than "Beyond the Realms of Death." It includes the most beautiful guitar solo of all time.
Priest rulez!! also Maiden, Manowar, Helloween, Slayer, etc... I'm pretty sure the original post is made by someone who thinks Metallica was the best metal band ever.
Load More Replies...Black Sabbath still sounds amazing today and Tony Iommi basically invented every riff, so all bands that followed are walking in the path they created.
BULLSH*T. There is SOME good modern stuff in any genre and a whole lot of garbage, just like there is and was at the time, a whole lot of crappy classic in any genre.
Nah. It's all great. Though I can do without some of that soft metal from the mid-80s through mid 90s.
mumble rap/trap has its place in hip hop, not all hip hop has to be lyrical miracle.
sure. but i kinda wonder, rap (not hiphop) is about the words...and lord, it has to be, since rapping is about the words....then mumbley stuff is...like a middle finger to the rap genre?
It has its place, somewhere in the Marianas Trench seems about right.
"Get that fuc king audio out my audi yo - I can see why people like Lil Yachty but not me though" I seriously question the place of something like "Panda" or that blingblingfaced color-vomit that calls himself s6xn9ne.
It may have it's place, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. There's a rare few that I like but otherwise no.
Listening to a full album is always a tiresome and unnecessary endeavour. Just pick out 1-2 songs you like and only listen to those. I don't give a damn about the "intended experience".
Some albums were absolutely intended to be a musical journey (The Wall, for instance) while others are just however they were able to fit their work onto a disc.
Load More Replies...Exactly what i was thinking. There's so much more to music than just nice songs.
Load More Replies...This is truly a lazy "opinion". If you like a couple of songs off one album you owe it to the artist to check out the rest of that album. If you can't be bothered to listen to an entire album you don't deserve music.
Depends on the artist for me. If I notice I like more than 3 songs, I'm motivated to seek them out. If I like enough songs by the same artist, I'll gladly take the album and get the "intended experience". Then, when I had enough of that experience, I'll pick my favourites and add them to my personal playlist of varieties. After that, I may return to listening the album, depending on my mood.
And don't forget mac Miller's Circles album, it was released after his death and it's profoundly human and touching
Load More Replies...God forbid you try something out of your comfort zone. I love that above someone complain that modern music is all generic ultra marketed stuff... How do you think that become the norm? By realizing that u can push one song and sell records, and then homogenize the next songs to that hit.
What if I want to listen to the entire album? If you're only going to like 1-2 songs from the album then don't bother buying it geez...
When LPs were the format, musicians wrote for the full LP experience. Now, people listen to the songs they like so there's no reason to listen to the whole thing straight through. The medium affects the music.
Lots of great concept albums that tell a story. Sgt Peppers, Dark Side of the Moon, Thick as a Brick to name a few. These have all good songs, not just that 1 good and 11 tracks of crap
Here is my very controversial and very unpopular music opinion. You're free to downvote me, but I warned you. Country Roads and Hotel California are so overplayed. Pretty much like All I Want for Christmas, but at least that one is only during Christmas time. There, I said it.

The Beatles were so groundbreaking in many ways. They were the first true rock *band.* Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc, were stars, of course, but the emphasis was on their voice, not the music. With the Beatles it was a collective effort that produced hundreds of great, original, catchy songs.

Christmas music is the worst. Honestly, I hate it and it makes me want to listen to nails on a chalkboard FOR RELIEF. I have only ever liked God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and I'm not even religious, it's just the least terrible one I've heard. Even then, I only like the slowed versions.
