It’s hard for many of us to imagine better comfort food than pasta. Now imagine devouring a noodle that rather looks like a work of art. Chef David Rivillo is offering exactly that - the pasta he makes seems too beautiful to eat and has earned him almost 40K followers on Instagram.
“Although I have eaten pasta all my life, I started working with fresh pasta in 2016 when I started my professional culinary studies in Porto Alegre,” David told Bored Panda. “Since then, I got my first pasta machine and never bought pasta again in the supermarket.”

The pasta looks just as good once it's cooked and ready to taste

Goddamn it. Pasta is ruined for me now. It will never be this good.
“Everything started in 2019. I was already experimenting with colors in pasta when I made my first design to pay tribute to Carlos Cruz Diez. He is my favorite artist, and he has recently passed away. I reproduced the Cromointerferencia de color aditivo, an artwork he created for the Simón Bolívar International Airport, one of the most representative artworks for all Venezuelans. Since then, my mind has never stopped thinking about it and how to get different designs and patterns,” David told us.
This looks nothing like pasta. I have some ribbon in my ribbon box that looks almost identical, but it's blue. It's amazing! I would like to know what is making it sparkly.
That’s really amazing! Though I’m not sure, the sparkles might be either some non pigmented spots due to the kind of flour (if it’s a grainier texture related to the coloring method) or just food grade glitter (I use it to decorate cakes, but never tried cooking it, as it’s done with pasta).

When asked about his inspirations, David replied: “My inspiration comes from everywhere: nature, any artwork, architecture, textile, and fashion designs. I’m constantly thinking about making any design that looks interesting into pasta. Before the pandemic in 2019, I had some ideas in mind and did some minor stuff, but I didn't have the time to develop those ideas entirely because of my work. It was just in the pandemic, throughout the lockdown, when everything started to take off.”
Looks like the flowers are made out of a much harder material than noodles
these look so... amazing, beautiful, baffling... so much in a piece of pasta!! Amazing work from the chef!
I guess this is just about making millions of different layers and running them thru the pasta machine to meld them, but I have so many questions... what are they colored with, why are they sparkling, and what do they taste like?
my guess is that the process of putting the colors where he wants them would be similar to those used in polymer clay art, where a *pasta machine* is key to certain techniques. but the fact that he had to take into account the flavor, ingredients & how the cooking process would affect the outcome- that really elevates what he's doing to a whole other dimension!!

So I knew that if I wanted to make better and different designs keeping the structure and the colors of the design before and after cooking, I had to make my research study. So I studied the science behind every ingredient involved in pasta, including the natural colors, to get the quality that I'm getting now,” David told us about his learning process. “My research skills and knowledge in chemistry and food science helped me throughout the process. All of them were crucial in the development of all the techniques.”
The talented chef says he will never be fully satisfied with the level of his creations: “There is so much to accomplish in pasta design. It is just the beginning of something great, at least for me. When you are genuinely interested in something, you never stop learning. I never thought that I would do what I'm doing now. It wasn't easy, but everything that I have achieved so far is a result of hard work, tons of patience, a lot of constancy in everything I do.”
That he can put two ribbons of pasta together, and marry them perfectly without distorting either of them is miraculous.
I'm amazed that not a single piece on this entire thread is distorted at all! The cells, stripes, blocks...they are all perfect! I'm in awe!
Load More Replies...I wonder if these are cheese or spinach tortellini... either way, they're beautiful.
I don't know, but blue color just doesn't look okay for me in food. Especially the bright blue shade.
How does he get the stripes so perfect? I couldn't do this with paper and ink.
I don't know but I'm sitting right here in amazement as well! My Millefori canes never come out this perfect 🤣

Load More Replies...Yes, on his page he says everything is 100% food grade.
Load More Replies...I wonder if these can be purchased ...and if I could bring myself to eat them. This would be perfect for a NYE dinner, because they're so elegant. I won't create an Instagram account so I can't get more information.
The ends are cut so cleanly... must have really good tools and a very steady hand.
Nope, don't like the snakes. I think I'd be anxious if these were served to me!
If this man isn’t making a ton of money with these, he’s doing something wrong, and it isn’t the pasta
These are all very beautifully made, and while not all of them look exactly appetizing (some colors work better than others for me) the work and time that went into them is obvious. I wish there was a website, because the only way to get prices is thru Instagram, or maybe TikTok.
Wow! That must take a lot of time and effort. I wonder how he colors the dough.
Hopefully with squash, spinach, squid ink, hibiscus, that sort of thing.
