We usually expect things to go the worst possible way—whether it’s failing that crucial exam you need to get into uni, or getting painfully rejected by your best friend who you’ve been in love with since childhood. There’s something liberating about expecting the most dreadful scenario, but nothing feels better than when it turns out the opposite.
Luckily, the internet is a magical place and there’s a little corner for everything: the bad and the impossibly good. Like this community on Reddit, r/UnexpectedlyWholesome, which has been sharing incidents and cases that took a U-turn for the wholesome for the past three years since its launch on February 19, 2017.
From a boyfriend praying on Twitter for his girlfriend’s period to come today, to a landlord who said no pets allowed in the property, some things are made to have exceptions and the most wholesome outcomes. No spoilers, but who doesn’t love happily-ever-after endings?

Wholesome 100
It feels like we’re living in a drought of good news. The past year hasn’t been an easy one and the general emotional state of people around the globe is not the best one. And how could it be otherwise with what we’ve all been dealing with lately?
But it turns out that feel-good news like this wholesome post can bring much-needed health benefits, especially in times of crisis. One study from Brigham Young University proved that sharing positive experiences, events, and stories has immense perks. The researchers invited participants to keep a journal of grateful experiences over four weeks, and share them with a partner twice a week. Those partners who received good news reported being in a better mood overall.

That is so sad that no one would give him the time and patience he needed. So glad he eventually found someone to talk to.

Moreover, reading bad news is able to stir up the hormones and spark the neurotransmitters that alter our mood. In the same way, exposing ourselves to positive information has a calming effect. According to the positivity advocate and writer Celia Abernethy, human-interest stories not only make us feel happier, they also increase trust and hope in humankind. “Stories about improved living and health conditions are uplifting and encouraging.”
Stories with happy endings, wholesome twists, and wonderful people assure readers that whatever happens, we will be fine because the world is full of great human beings. This hopeful thinking is what we critically need these days.

An Unexpected Friendship
I don’t understand that logic, since when can you only call your friends by their first name. I understand there is an etiquette when it comes to teachers, elders and royalty etc but not every Tom, D**k or Harry.
Goby Saves The Day
Instead of placing garbage cans around this beach, the city made a giant see-through fish out of some barbed wire and meshm and added a sign that says "Goby loves plastic, please feed him". Kids love feeding Goby, who is usually full by the end of the day, and taken away by the city.
Boys Like Flowers, Too
Don't be fooled... We are lizard people with human skin suits.
Load More Replies...My hubby *loves* carnations. I don't, but hey, he does, so I get him carnations.
I agree. I started bringing flowers to my bf shortly after we met in 1978. He's over 80 now and I still love to do this.
All of us gay guys LOVE flowers. They are FAB-u-LOUS! You didn't know that?
I was talking to my male friend when i read this, and asked him to see if boys rlly do like flowers. i was expecting a snarky reply but instead got the answer 'columbine flowers'. it warmed my heart for some reason.
Gave my ex the best purple rose from my garden. His reply was " What the f**k am I supposed to do with this?" One of many reasons he's an ex
I absolutely LOVE roses. Long stems preferred but really any kind of rose. Followed by hyacinths, wisteria, lilacs, honeysuckle, gardenia... Hey flowers rock!
One of the life skills I taught my son was how to arrange flowers. Every girlfriend he's ever had thanks me as he makes sure I get the credit.
Isn't it kinda cool? Our local main weather guy until he retired also did a regular gardening and floral segment. I learned a lot from him!
Boys/men don't get gifts or recognition very often, As the mother of my only child, a boy, it makes me sad to see and hear his girlfriends are expecting valentines gifts, Christmas gifts, 1 mo. anniversary gifts, "Why don't you bring me flowers anymore, etc. I don't see THEM doing anything but expecting gifts at the alter.
My dad loves sunflowers, so I always plant them randomly throughout our yard and beside our house. Also when my friend came out to me as a trans dude I promised him I'd get him a massive bouquet when he got top surgery. COVID and all I delivered a Queen Anne's Lace bouquet this spring.
I'll cut this really short, but a couple are having an argument and she says 'I bet you don't even know what my favourite flower is, do you?'. With a triumphant smile, he says 'Yes, I do! It's self-raising, isn't it?
My son loves Squash blossoms. Cause I grew a lotta Squash when he was little.
My son is 7 and his favourite thing is walking through flowershops. He loves the smell. One day he said 'I will NEVER forget this smell" ❤️
Sad, Man r like box. U should never show your emotions specially if u r not isolated, cuz it isn't manlism. that's why they became more and more aggressive these days. That's what happened when u pushed someone too much. To all the boys it's definitely okay to cry. Luv
For years I've mad it a point to find out if the men in my life like flowers and if you I will get them pretty bouquets on birthdays and such. Most never get flowers, because apparantly "we" don't do that for men. Every single one always comments on how nice it is and how they love getting them and how they wish they had the guts to gift their guy friends flowers
My fiancée loves gardening and I used to love helping her in the garden. We didn't have much laid out in the garden but when I wasn't able to help any more after my heart failure. I gave her £20 a week to buy seeds and plants and once a month £50 to get something nice. We call it a Flower Allowance. I came home from a hospital appointment to a garden bristling with flowers in planters and a muddy but happy Baba (I call her Baba). Turns out she was using the money to get things together at her parents, and they planned it all for over a year. She still gets her Flower Allowance and I get a garden full of pretties. I also bring her drinks and food while she is working on the garden too.
Hmm...I wonder what my husband's favorite flowers are? I'm going to surprise him.
My mum buys her partner flowers coz he likes them as much as she does. My hubby on the other hand is not a flower person and would probably laugh and say “where’s my fishing gear” if I bought him flowers lol.
It’s the thoughtfulness of it. If anyone did it for you, you’d feel happy they cared for you in that way. Nobody actually cares that much about the organic flower matter. It’s just the sentiment.

So much oohs, aahs and awws and I absolutely loved it. This post has made my day and I certainly needed this. Thank you 😊
I read through all of them. This so wholesome, that’s a guarantee. ☺️
Since we are telling wholesome stories, I got one: One day, heavy wind knocked a tree branch onto my apartment sidewalk. When I came home expecting to have to walk around it, it was gone. Turns out the short and small elderly lady who lives next door to me moved it all by herself. I plan to do something special for 🎄 for her for doing that.
I love it when neighbours connect :) I used to move a lot and never really knew my neighbours, but I've been in one house since my kid was born, and I've gotten to know my neighbours on either side: we can natter for hours, I come and fix technology things or do computer help, and they can watch my son on the odd occasion I need to pop out to get groceries and my kid is in bed etc. It is nice :)
Load More Replies...My wholesome story: The summer before I went to college, I worked in the same manufacturing plant as my dad. One of the fork truck drivers, Rodney, was a big guy. Six foot six, 270+ pounds. Rodney had a tendency to get angry and yell. What did he tell about so much? He was angry that he was moved to second shift and he couldn't be home with his son in the evenings. His son was 14, had downs syndrome, and Rodney wanted to teach him how to swim.
