I get that it's a joke, but I've actually, seriously wondered about it before. It seems fairly pervasive in American movies, people getting drunk and then finding out they are married. Is that just a well used trope? Or is it actually a thing that happens?

this is clearly a joke. If a thirteen-year-old is a Trump-supporter, the parents are likely those, too. The kid being white is definitely not something he could be singled out in the family (okay... i'm excluding adoption right now as a possible reason) so that's not hing anyone would attack their kid for. And if my 13yr old would start supporting Trump, I'd have a long talk with him and since he's a teenager, he might very well think it's an attack.

Being harassed for supporting one of the most notorious harassers of this day & age is more than fair. People who choose to support bigots deserve to get a taste of what happens to the marginalized groups that are being neglected basic human rights thanks to the person they support. People should never be harassed for something they can't control (race, gender, sexuality, mental/physical disabilities, etc) but when someone makes the conscious decision to support a racist, sexist, ableist, lgbtqphobic, xenophobic rapist who will do anything to benefit himself they deserve to face consequences from the public. If a kid decided to become a Neo-Nazi, join the KKK, or be a Proud Boy, they would (hopefully) face repercussions for buying into a toxic belief system that devalues the lives of other human beings. Guess what? Trump supports these groups. He's the Hitler of the 2000s. Support something harmful, get harmed in return. It's not just karma, it's common sense.

Aragorn, there are numerous examples, both in history and in literature, where a group of vigilantes enforce "good" and defeat "evil" by any means possible, only to realize in the end that they are the evil for acting exactly like an evil stereotype would. Best not to re-invent the wheel.

While I would probably agree that a Neo-Nazi deserves to be harassed, it also messages others that it's ok to harass those who you disagree with. this leads to things such as the 2017 survey which found that 19% of college students think it is ok to use violence to disrupt a controversial speaker. This is not how we should be dealing with these things.

It's the difference between "I choose my behaviour" and "do as I say not as I do".

It does matter because his supporters still exist & they still have toxic bigoted beliefs even though their leader is gone.
