i related to this so well. my daughter in law is african american who was adopted by white parents. she told me that she had to learn all the things of how to care for her hair on her own. she has what i have now discovered to be what is considered a "4b" which is very very thick and curly. fast forward to her marrying my son & i now have a grandson w/mixed he textured hair. he also very tenderheaded. there are no salons where we live that know how to work on natural hair. thankfully, she allows me to help her tame his mane bc i get to spend time and help him. recently went to youtube w/questions regarding how to make it easier to comb hair. soo many black stylists reached out w/recommendation, giving me the confidence to try relaxing the curls. turned out great & my grandson loves his softer curls. don't get impression my DIL doesn't want to do it. i like working on hair.

That is absolutely beautiful. I love that this older woman went out of her way to ask for help and that the OP went out of her way to help her. Also, the husband going to African braiding shops to learn how to do his daughter's hair correctly is adorable!

There's a Yiddish word - mensch. It's often translated to "good person," but it actually means "real person,l or "real human."

Think about it. If you're a gay boy in high school and you have a crush, you have about a 1 in 10 chance that your crush is even into guys, let alone you. Go to a conversion camp and your odds skyrocket. Plus you can bond over a common enemy

My dad, a tatted, old school southern born and raised man in a very conservative and Mormon household always told me when the conversation arose that we shouldn't try to 'teach' people to change what they cannot change about themselves but should teach others to change the very changeable hate they carry. RIP Dad.

I wish they had something like this for abused adults. I lost sleep & threw up all morning & had an anxiety attack when I went to court only to find out they mistakenly let him out of jail instead of transporting him to court. 30 years later I still cry if you bring him up & he's serving 2 life sentences in another state so no way to get me

In the US there is also a similar group called guardian angels that will do this for adults. Girls from dorm were getting attacked at night so groups of them started showing up at night. No one called them they saw it on the news and just came

As far as I know they don't only show up in court, the kids can call them when they feel scared and they'll show up to stand guard or accompany them to hearings etc. At least that's what I read about the US bikers, Guardian angels or something? It's a commitment for life, once you've been one of their kids, they'll still be there for you as an adult.

Big burly biker guys seem to be split into two groups - violent criminals, and the kindest human beings ever. And honestly, I think the latter group is larger, the criminal biker gangs just get more headlines. There are biker groups who will go to funerals that people like Westboro Baptists are trying to disrupt and form a human barrier to keep the a******s out of view.

Not everyone is a fan of surprises, understandably, but there’s nothing better than a pleasant surprise. Expecting standstill traffic when you’re running late for work and being blessed with all green lights and not another car in sight, finding flowers and chocolates on your desk that your partner got for you “just because,” or finding out that your best friend will be in town for your birthday can easily make your day. Many of us are taught to hope for the best yet expect the worst, and thankfully, all of the posts on this list don’t disappoint when it comes to providing the best possible outcomes.

The Unexpectedly Wholesome subreddit has a simple concept: members share things that end up being, well, unexpectedly sweet! And clearly, Redditors can’t get enough, as the group has 210k members, or simply people as they call themselves, and is full of uplifting posts about anything and everything. Many of these pics have the potential to be sad, hateful, disappointing or terrifying, yet they all take a quick turn and end up bringing pure joy to readers.

I knew a goodest boy named max as well, but he was a golden. I miss that fluffier, he was as sweet and gentle as anything I could imagine. The worst part about having pets is knowing that you're going to lose them, and probably long before you go yourself. Over 30 years of fuzzy companions, and it hurts just as much every time as it did the first time.

Many people haven't flown in airplanes, let alone been to Australia, or BBQd a steak at sunset either. I think he means in a general sense, humans live now with the highest advancements in technology, vast grocery stores of food availability, and the privilege to relax and enjoy the sunset with certain luxuries in such a way that was never available to humans that came before us.

My 34 yr old son had stage 4 Melanoma right at beginning of pandemic, they gave him 6 months...he just had 3 month old daughter. He did clinical trials, radiation, and surgery where they had to remove his left jaw to front if face, made a new jaw from his leg bone...after all that they gave him 5% chance...today he's cancer free, just had 2nd daughter. Those ads on TV for immunotherapy do work..it's not chemo...it's a miracle.

I'm so happy your son made it. I'm sure his daughter will be so proud to hear his story when she's old enough. My geology teacher in college had the same surgery/jawbone replacement, decades before I met him in my classes, and he looked great, so you can assure your son, if he has any worries about the legbone replacement affecting his speech or appearance later on in life... he will look great! ;)

Yes for some of us the blessings of this time are incredible. I also think about the fact that it can only apply to about one in ten people too though. The third world in many population centres is even worse off than the western world was 200 years ago , especially I terms of clean water food and disease.

As I’m sure you know, pandas, we love wholesome content here at Bored Panda. Whether it’s adorable photos of baby animals or sweet pics of elderly people standing up for gay and trans rights, these kinds of pics will always be precious. But the word ‘wholesome’ hasn’t always been a compliment, so Sadiba Hasan wrote a piece for The New York Times discussing when this word became a term of endearment for Gen Zers. Apparently, the word started gaining popularity in 2018 and peaked in September 2020.

But when Celeste Scott referred to the content at the lifestyle blog The Good Trade as “wholesome” during a meeting in 2019, she learned that her colleagues had a negative connotation with the word. “Maybe before, ‘wholesome' was used to describe something a little more conservative,” she told The New York Times. But nowadays, especially amongst the youngest generation, wholesome is not associated with outdated, traditional family values and virtues, but rather linked with kindness, positivity, sincerity and anything cute.

I’d go as far as to say that most average people don’t mean to be offensive in situations like this. But it’s sometimes hard to keep up with what’s currently acceptable and it changes so much over time. My white mother used to say that little coloured babies were the cutest thing ever, or that the opening hours of the corner shop near us were great because the owner was Indian and they have such a good work ethic over there. She was the sweetest, most inoffensive and caring person. She just grew up in a different time.

Perhaps part of the reason Gen Z has decided to cling onto the term wholesome is because of their positivity overall. One 2022 study interviewing college undergraduates found that this young generation highly values optimism and contributing to social change. So it’s not surprising that Gen Z would also be a huge fan of “wholesome” memes and pics that promote gay rights, disability rights, taking care of the planet and anything else that makes us feel warm and fuzzy. Especially in times of turmoil, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, this content can be a welcomed escape for young people to dive into the world of all things wholesome.

I started playing Minecraft with my teenage son. It was the only thing we could find in common. He's grown up now but I still play. It's on a family friendly server so I spend a lot of my time helping other kids feel welcome and give them good gear.

storytime: my wife and I were trying to have another child but found that we couldn't. my 12yo son, who wanted a little brother, was telling me about all the things he was sad he wouldn't be able to share with a brother now. I told him that we were sad too, but I then reminded him that I've gotten to share a lot of the things that I love with him. So his dream of having a little guy to share his passions with doesn't have to be over. Just now the dream can change from having a brother to having a son.

I don't mean to sound like a pessimist but also, having a brother is not a guarantee that they would want to do things together- especially when they're young, siblings are more annoyed with each other than anything else.

Millennial memes of the early 2010s were often full of dark humor and sarcasm, but we live in a very different world now. “Sometimes those ironic and satirical memes are too heavy-handed, and they go into things that, at a certain point, it’s not really a joke anymore,” Enzo Luna, a 22-year-old communications consultant, told The New York Times, noting that he particularly loves watching cute cat videos. “I really enjoy seeing that type of content as opposed to people making fun of others.” We’re in an age where young people are increasingly valuing social justice and kindness, and it’s reflected in what’s popular online.

I make a habit of learning basic greetings in every language that I come across, I find language interesting and have found that even a basic greeting said in someone else's mother tongue can really open dialogue with that person.. I always find it really fun when in an uber with someone from a different country and I can open with their native greeting :) good times

What I wonder is- why does ANYONE give a flying s**t about who or how other people f*ck? Why is this even an issue? Why is there a seperate community? It's ridiculous. There shouldn't be a separation because NOBODY SHOULD CARE WHO OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SEX WITH, unless you are the one they are screwing. Then you can have an opinion. This baffles me that people obsess over other people's sex lives. Stupidest thing ever.

Constance Grady also wrote a piece for Vox explaining how she has seen the word wholesome undergo a complete revival in the past couple of decades. Gone are the days where the word signified being behind the times and reminding people of their grandparents (in a bad way); today, being wholesome is aspirational. Anything from snacks we buy at the grocery store to music we listen to on Spotify can be wholesome, and many of this comes in direct opposition to the alt-right movement that gained traction online around 2014. “Part of the way the alt-right spreads its message is through internet trolling. When it is ascendant, the internet landscape around it starts to feel more than a little toxic,” Grady writes. “And wholesomeness becomes an appealing escape.”

Former BuzzFeed staff writer Natalya Lobanova also told Vox that, “Wholesome memes will always do well after something devastating (Trump, Brexit, whatever) because in those moments, people crave to be reminded of good things, and to simply just switch off from feeling uneasy or angry.” It seems like we have barely had a break from bad news in recent years, with school shootings, war, the pandemic, inflation and much more. So can we really blame anyone for wanting to have a few minutes of peace, intaking refreshing, wholesome content?

If you’re feeling deprived of wholesome moments in your own life, remember that they likely appear more often than you realize, you just might have to train yourself to be on the lookout for them. “I imagine it like a nutrient deficiency; my fingernails are brittle when I’m not taking my calcium supplements regularly,” Emily Torres writes for The Good Trade, explaining why we’re all craving something wholesome. “Likewise, my heart gets brittle when I forget to practice presence—to slow down and smell the clean fur of a sun-drenched puppy. (Is there any other smell that matters?) Wholesome moments are everywhere, if only we’ll pay attention.”

This is how it started for me and my hubby, too. It led to me finding full on walkthroughs to direct him to every pick up in the games, then to me playing the games, too. Now we are in our 50's, and we sit side by side in our recliners, each with our own tv and console spending our time Co-Op gaming together.

Ooz, I blocked off 2 lanes of traffic without a second thought because there was a lost pup in the middle of the road.. jumped out of my car and he ran up to me, (his name is Marvin 🤗). People were initially honking like crazy and cussing me out, until they all saw Marvin in my arms and both sides of road became dead silent. Super thankful no one hit me... and super glad Marvin was friendly so I could scoop him up. (Had to take him to a non-kill shelter because his chip showed his owners moved away 😭). This was stupid, reckless and I'd do it again!

I recently pulled up to a junction behind a learner driver and was patiently waiting. The car behind me honked. And the teacher in the learner’s car gave me angry hand signals for several minutes until I turned off. “It wasn’t me!”

Good For You! I stopped my car middle of a four way intersection, to get a family of ducks safely across. Horns honking, people yelling, but you would have to run me down before you hit these ducks. :) I felt good about it, and the ones who smiled at me and did not yell or honk.

The great thing about ingesting uplifting content is that you can find whatever you love the most and dive deep into that wholesome hole. Perhaps videos of fluffy bunnies are right up your alley, or maybe you’re more interested in satisfying cooking videos on TikTok where the chef tells stories about their own life while perfectly chopping veggies and crafting warm, comforting meals. Whatever it is that brings you joy, make time for it. And be cognizant of media you in take that has the opposite effect as well, such as toxic reality TV or depressing news programs. Life is about balance, and we can stay informed without missing out on the wholesome joys in life.

My grade school used to also have the classes for those with special needs. This was the early 80s it was referred to as the r*tarded class. When they went to high-school it was a different school than the rest of us. But anytime we saw them everyone said hello and asked them how things were. Basically, treated them normally. One night on the bus there were some of them being made fun of and harassed by a few guys. There was also 6 guys on the bus from grades shool. Those six followed the others off the bus and "had a word".

There's a story I like to tell about a couple of guys I know from the Scottish Star Trek scene, Colin and Simon. Both have special needs of one kind or another, and at a convention in Glasgow one time, they started getting grief from some local hooligans. Suddenly the hooligans found themselves surrounded by a couple of dozen *very* angry Star Trek fans - some of which happened to be off duty cops - who demanded to know "Why are you bothering our friends?"

If this is true, the wholesome story would be the gangs telling the homophobe not to mess with their friend and why it's not cool to hate gay people. Beating on someone greatly outnumbered is not okay unless that person is in the process of seriously, physically harming someone else. Educate bigots, beat child molesters. Let the punishment fit the crime.

One of my favorite calls when I worked in a bookstore was this lovely old woman who opened the call by apologizing and telling me she is old and doesn't understand what the kids are into. She wanted to get her grandson a nice gift. He had told her his favorite thing was YouTube. She asked if I knew what a YouTube was and if I could help her find one. I explained YouTube and told her we had many books by famous YouTubers and if she finds out his favorites I would love to help her

Boomers and/or the elderly get a bad rep for being close minded, and most of the time, that plain old stereotyping. Most older people I know love to learn new things, but can find technology intimidating or are worried that using outdated vocabulary will get them attacked (like learning more about the LGBTQ community but using vocab that was acceptable 30 years ago).

I'm super short and at pretty much every concert I've ever been to, tall people have been very considerate. More than once, my siblings and I (we're all hobbits) have been more or less pushed in front of all the taller people until we were in front of the stage. Happened most recently with The Hu, and Clutch. Metal fans are very kind.

My kids grew up doing community theatre, and one of the techs was this gigantic man. We're talking 6'7" and a good 300 lbs. When he came to our house he would fill the entire front door frame. I'm 5'2" on a good day, but when one of my kids was in a local production, Giant Tech Guy had a seat right behind me in the audience. I asked him if he could see over me, just to be polite. He assured me he could see just fine, lol

This reminds me of a time I was at a conference and a guy asked me randomly if I was allergic to peanuts. I was confused but said no. He then whipped out a peanut butter sandwich he brought from home. I have never been asked something so considerate before lol

I am so short, I've had average height people check on me to make sure I can see. We don't trade places, but they often make sure there is a gap big enough for me to have a better view of the stage. I appreciate all of them.

When I was in college, you were not allowed to walk on the grass unless you were OPB. "On pleasure bent." That tiny bit of time you need to restore yourself that comes from being on the grass rather than galumphing crankily on the sidewalk. OPB is the best way to walk.

For some reason, I have a LOT of handsome male friends. When they'd come to help my grandma at the farm, she'd get super flirty. Before she could get awkward, they'd offer to do some chore. She forgot every time, but would brag for days about how much they liked her. This is rad.

I remember that from when I was in my 20s and babysitting! I didn't understand the appeal but the kids loved it. Now it's in my head again! There were plenty of other songs like that too. My very first time meeting the kids I was going to look after, I was picking my sister up after school and we walked with them and their mum on our way home. I bonded with the youngest (who had undiagnosed Autism) singing 'this is the song that never ends' and that's when their mum knew I would be a good babysitter :)

You cannot solve an equation if there is no equation to be solved. "9x - 2 + 28 + 93x - 39284" contains no equal sign and so is just a variable expression. It does simplify to "102x - 39310", but that expression could have any value you like (positive, negative, or zero), depending on what x is. I'm glad the responder was so helpful about the computation, but he really misled the questioner by using the word equation. If the this causes the questioner to confuse expressions and equations, the responder may have done him more harm than good. (Math reacher venting here.)

IDK. This kind of upsets me. My Mom (passed 1 year ago Thursday, kicking off the worst year of my life) and Dad (passed 13 years ago today), as well as my brother (passed 2 years ago in January) are all buried in Fort Indiantown Gap military cemetery. I was there Sunday. I always see pennies on graves there but it would feel SO wrong to take something given with such love and also pain from loss of someone who honorably served their country. Sorry. I'm just too close to this one, and it still hurts too much. And now I'm crying. I'm sorry.

Usually a hot single mom in an anime/manga would be sexually aggressive woman who took the boy's virginity or some such. Here the mom is 'hot' because of a fever, nothing sexual going on
