You know the feeling when you anticipate something so much that you tend to idolize the picture and when it actually happens, it turns that your expectations surpassed the real thing by miles? Yes, it's called a disappointment, and it happens way more often than it should when traveling to the most famous vacation destinations and places to visit. These days most people don't wear rose-colored glasses, they opt for an Instagram filter instead. Which is why traveling has become so disheartening—where are those idyllic beaches that you saw online? It was better when we could only read about those exotic places to travel and imagine them; now, ruined by Instagram, your travel ideas will never match up to reality.
So come, join us—pull back the veil and see the Truth of travel impressions for yourself. Bored Panda has collected this list of travel expectation VS reality. Which false advertising photo has the best let-down photo? You can also check out these famous places to go zoomed out to show their surroundings.

Visiting The Great Wall Of China
sandra247BEST@GMAIL.COMcontacted them and got my wives Facebook password it appears I have just been deceiving myself on this love matter for over a two years cos my wife already had another family.sandra247BEST@GMAIL.COM was really helpful
Load More Replies...I don't think this photo has the real truth in it. As you can see there are 99.9% Chinese shown in this photo. So it must have been when there may be some festival held there. There are totally no foreign tourist in this photo..how come? When I was there last year there were many international tourists all over the world but not as crowded as shown in this photo. So I will say this photo is very misleading.
China has the most population and they might've been Korean or Japanese. I'm not trying to be rude but maybe next time don't judge a book by
Load More Replies...This is only in October, and in certain sections, namely Badaling. Other sections are empty, trust me.
Most ppl that know they dont go to Badalin just becose of that !!
Load More Replies...Okay so I'm one of those who adore BoredPanda.. But this new clip to flip/slide to flip.. It does not allow me to look at both photos at the same time.. Fine use new controllers.. But keep two windows side by side for comparison.. Takk
Agreed! Thanks for saying what I was thinking.
Load More Replies...Been there many times and never seen anything like this!! Must be a special event in China.
it was not crowded at all when we went. we had a great time and got great pictures!

Been there - so true. The first photo is probably just like the second to be fair though. You just can't see the other people. All about the angles.
People need to get some originality! Why would you do the same as everyone else!
except normally you can't even step on the grass there. Otherwise it's spot on indeed
Admiring Mona Lisa In Louvre Museum, Paris, France
I was there, totally true There was people waiting only for the selfie, nobody was even looking Lisa :(
This is so stupid.. everyone can see an image of Mona Lisa everywhere. What's the point of taking one more picture than enjoying the painting?
Load More Replies...why do they have to take photos? thousands of better photos could be found easily on google with one word...
I guess they really just want to prove they were there. Humans...:)
Load More Replies...Look at the bright side: since everybody looking at Mona Lisa you can enjoy every other art in Louvre peacefully. :)
oh, yes... there is other masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci, people even didn't see it ... 652__795de4_0.jpg
It depends on the date and time you visit Paris. If you get there as soon as the nmuseum opens, you will be swarmed by gawkers. If you wait till off season and go near the end of the day, things wind down quite a bit, but don't count on getting that close to the artwork!
I was there a week after the Paris attack. There were mainly Parisians in Paris. I've never seen it so empty. However, the Mona Lisa was exactly like this and it was a weekday.
Load More Replies...Having A Picnic Near The Eiffel Tower In Paris, France
that`s not fair, when i went to paris im may 2015 it was like the first photo
noooo I've picnicked there and had plenty of space. It's only been crowded on Bastille Day in my experience.
This is not actually true...I been to Paris for some time and it was never like that on the Eiffel tower area, it was free you could set up a massive ballon on it, like no people and I was ther for the whole day
Learning A New Hobby On A Ski Trip
Totally me as well. Cortina slopes were my nightmare. My fault for sure.
I disagree! This year I was back to ski after 1st years without even seeing snow and I did fine, plus I brought my boyfriend who never saw snow in his entire life and only fell twice, and I was his teacher.. Don't see where this example can be true if u take it slow and don't think you can learn everything in one hour
Sunbathing In The Famous Beach Of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
that is not quite fair :-) that is during a concert on that beach :-)
I've been in peak season and wasn't even close. Those are giant tvs and this is the World Cup. Lol. Not quite fair indeed
I was in Rio and it was NOT like this. There was room for everyone and there were no stands in the middle of the beach, so I have to ask what was going on at this time? Was there a concert or the world cup?
This is was when we have Pope's visit... Although during the summer, beaches use to be a little crowded, it's not like this!
Taking A Peaceful Gondola Ride In Venice, Italy
been to venice a few times its worse than this picture most of the time - greed and money rule not romance
Load More Replies...Plus this costs you a whole fortune (as everything in Venice does)!
I've never seen it quite this bad there - really depends on when you go
I used to go there almost every weekend, and I never saw it that crowded
not really true.. likely taken on a saturday in the summer.. go in the evening at 8pm ( $100 though)
I have been going to Venezia Every year since 1985. I have never seen this happen.
Relaxing On The Gorgeous Beaches Of Maldives
Actually the difference between this images is simple. One was taking in expensive hotel where probably someone cleans the beach and other was taking on the public beach where inhabitants don't give a sh*t about it.
Agree, I've been there two times and both it was like paradise
Load More Replies...this is the world over - you get sold a b******t vision but what you find is humans are a*s holes and s**t up their own environent - i have campaigned and fought against litter all my life but its a battle we are losing - land on mars? solve world poverty? find peace in the middle east? yeah right we cant even keep our own streets clean because of lazy vermin throwing their fast food c**p everywhere......
Do not forget the smokers! The world is their ashtray! Disgusting.....
Load More Replies...I live here and this is only true in a very few local islands, not the resorts you guys will vacation in
You can see scenes like this on some islands but not in tourist resorts.
That's not quite true... I've been to the Maldives and it was real paradise! Not a bit of trash anywhere and white soft sand for miles!...
This is not true, Furanafushi island is exactly like the first picture :)
Walking Around Santorini Island, Greece
Hahaha. No, this is just what happens in one particular spot, where everyone goes to see the sunset. The rest of the island is not even half as crowded. Don't change your mind. Go to Santorini. Just make sure you pick a slightly off-season time to visit (ideally May or September).
Load More Replies...That's when people watch the famous Santorini sunset. The island is known for that so of course you'll have people sitting around to see it especially in high season. The good thing with the island is that it has different levels so everyone can see the view.
Yeah I went there last year to take pics of sunset. It was totally like that! lol
Load More Replies...The flipped picture is NOT from a "usual day" in Santorini. It's from the annoual "Red Bull Art of Motion" Parkour world championship! Get your facts straight. Cheers
It all depends on the season. I went in early June and it was AMAZING!
Been there, totally true :( For a peaceful sunset, climb onto remains of the old castle Skaros.
Checking Out The Breathtaking Glory Of The Taj Mahal, India
then people have to go there at 5 since you said that
Load More Replies...Go early in the morning, it's cooler and less crowds. Go anyway, any time, it's absolutely beautiful and to stand in front of this incredible monument to love is breathtaking. Even the best photos can't compare to seeing it for yourself.
The Taj, Pride of India..Everyone who visit in India, Wants to see the Taj at least one. Best time to visit is winter or morning in any season. http://betraveler.in
When I went to the Taj Mahal, it was a foggy day, but the next day was better and we visited Agra.
The first picture is not even a photo...or is it that heavily photoshopped?!
There is an app available which removes all moing things like people. Mount your camera on a stand and click multile picture. The rogram deletes all moving people and presto! you get a clean picture
Load More Replies...Well the first picture is clearly photoshopped. So its not really representation. But yea, i would assume its emptier at different times. I've seen collegues take pictures with less people in the background.
Getting there 6am n u will see long long queue outside the gate. And the haze is that bad!!!
Load More Replies...Awww, it's really pretty and worth it though. And HUGE, so you don't even notice the people.
Enjoying Your Private Moments On The Beaches Of Thailand
This place was way more crowded when I was there. And the petrol fumes were stifling... I was sooo upset.
You can go to Vietnam, there are many many beautiful private place for you to discover ;)
Load More Replies...This is the place where "The Beach" was filmed close to Koh Phi Phi. Why people want to touch the dirt that Leo touched 15 year ago is beyond me. There are beaches across the bay from this one totally empty. If you end up going to Phi Phi... just skip this tour and do some scuba diving or snorkeling instead ;)
I visited this place in September and there were only like 30 people there. If you pick the right time for your trip, you should be just fine! Here is the picture I took - imag0628.jpg
I was in Rayong in November and the beach was empty and gorgeous :)
When I was on phiphi leh nobody was there, beacausr the waves outside were so high that no longtail-boatsman drove to the island. After making a good offer one boatsman brought us there. It was incredible
i have been to a few thai islands - thomas cooke sell you the first image the reality is VERY different - Ko Phi Phi had so many plastic water bottles in the sea i was literally crying - paradise lost......
Admiring The Trevi Fountain In Rome, Italy
Not true. The left out the dozen guys trying to force your man to buy you a rose.
Just makes me realize that people need to stop breeding...there are wayyyyy too many as it is. Damn, best to just check stuff out online or on TV
Absolutely true. I lived in Rome for 10 years and had to pass this area daily by bike for a while. I would leave myself an extra 10 minutes just to get through that one block. It didn't matter what season it was or time of day. It was always this crowded. I suppose it wold be empty when people usually sleep, but it's still packed even up to midnight or so, and as early as 8am. You can still squeeze through to the front to get a decent pic, though.
Watching The Stonehenge During Sunset, United Kingdom
You can't get close to the stones now because some idiot decided to leave a mark he/she was there.
Been there done that...it's not always quite this crowded, only on the Solstace days, but you have to park across the street, walk under the road through a tunnel, and you are very restricted as to how far you can wander on the site.
@Debbie is right, the picture is misleading. When I went, we and two other families were literally the only people there.
Agree it's on summer and winter solstice where you are actually able to enter and touch stone henge, otherwise you can only circle the monuments from 10 metres away
It is not allowed to go to the stones. There is only a path around. 1230064_33...576_n1.jpg
I was there 2013. It is not allowed go to the stones. There is only a path around. 1230064_33...5576_n.jpg
Visiting Pyramids Of Giza In Cairo, Egypt
Best to arrive either very, very early n the day, or later in the afternoon or evening. And bring a lot of bottled water, it's hot as blazes and waiting in one can be very overwhelming. Plus I wouldn't advise going up in the pyramid if you have any claustrophbia. It's hot, dark, and has no air flow.
Great advice, had to come from a cat person, with all respect :)
Load More Replies...It is hard to be crowded here, it is so big area! And in february temperatures are like spring in middle Europe.
Well actually the postcards are made so you can't see how very close Cairo is to the pyramids and the Sphinx. And don't get close to camelguys they will charge you for anything possible. Even pictures taken with your own camera and they will yell and make a scene if you do not pay. Might even try to force you up on the camel.Wasnt a fun experience.
you say b******t no one force you to do anything
Load More Replies...I was there iin June 2015 no waiting almost no people in the middle of day... yes very very hot weather so recommend to take plenty of water but it was worth it :)
no one there at the moment since the terrorist attack..again this article is just nonsense
I have never seen so many spruikers and dirt as I did at the Pyramids and Cairo in general. Plus, the government had just shot 680 people at Tahir Square.
you forgot about the rubbish place just behind the corner of pyramids:-(( so dissapointig
Climbing Mount Everest, Nepal
Hillary Steps always crowded , beside there is 4-6 weeks weather window and from it only 2 weeks for summit attack , as well sinc 90's commercial tour operators took over this rock , from first climb in 53 numbers of 'climbers' went ballistic , you have money , you go everest ... Fukcud up a bit
How many people can conquer the summit in a day? Do you think its always like this? Had it been like shown in the picture then hundreds of people would be reaching the summit which is not reality. It might have happened at some point of time but that is not the justified reason to generalize.
This is already near the summit right? Damn movies exagerrating stuff
Not to mention the corpses on the way! http://sometimes-interesting.com/2011/06/29/over-200-dead-bodies-on-mount-everest/
Hanging Out At The Spanish Steps In Italy With Your Sweetheart
Who is this model?? I swear to god I see her everywhere it's starting to get creepy
This is inaccurate: the spanish steps are usually full of illegal vendors ;)
While they are usually crowded, you'll find it less so, in the evening or early morning. There are higher priorities in Rome, so it's usually crowded only when the shops are open. Go before or after closing times and you'll find lots of space. Don't go alone when it's too late or you'll find it's quite desolate, which can be dangerous.
Lol! So true!!! Never been able to have a decent picture of the place... Not even at night! But to be honest you shouldn't expect Rome to be like in the movies ever! It's crowded by tourists all year long! I can promise you that 'cos I live in Italy and I've been there many times!
Just got back and no one on the steps......because they are blocked off for restoration.
not everybody can afford to pay to close the circulation to take a few pictures
Admiring Little Mermaid In Copenhagen, Denmark
No matter what, the first one is photoshopped, she is not sitting with open water in the background but in the harbour of CPH. And yes she is tiny, hence the name, Little Mermaid.
Thank you JesperBove for this moment of sanity
Load More Replies...That mermaid is totally overrated. As someone who's been living in Copenhagen for quite some time..it's really not worth the fuss. There are way better places to visit in the city.
It's a beautiful statue, it's a sad and beautiful children's story that many people remember having read to them as children. I would love to see her some day!
Load More Replies...The first one is photoshopped, and the second one is taken from the worst angle possible. It's not hard to get a good photo with her, especially if you go early in the day.
Enjoying St. Peter's Square Before Entering The Beautiful Basilica In Vatican City
this line moves very fast. it's just for the metal detector and dress code control
they didn't allow me due to my sleeveless (but very decent) shirt when i was a kid. wasn't interested anyway at that age. now i wouldn't go just because they didn't let a child in. keep your golden idols for yourselves, people!
Load More Replies...The line does move fast and if you make sure that you aren't wearing shorts or tank top you will get in quicker. It's well worth the wait, though!
haha the first image is laughable - it is NEVER like that the Que here is appalling yes it moves fast but its miles long and you end up paying greedy guides that hassle you to death to 'escape the que' its also so packed inside you cant really enjoy it.....its an amazing place still but again NOT like the first image - this is the dream we are SOLD to get tourist money it is a lie
Very fast...just 2-3 hours you have to wait for metal control in the line
and the light of the first one indicates it has been taken very early in the morning! the vatican must be closed at that hour
I got fedup because of the vast and thick crowd in the museum. We can never appreciate the arts and artifacts on account of the crowd
Walking In Sheep Meadow, In New York's Central Park, United States
its not even the same day wtf lol one is winter and one is summer what a joke how many of these are lies like this
most of the "crowded" photos are probably taken at some sort of concert or event.
Load More Replies...When I saw the first picture, I was like "Where's the sheep?". Guess the second picture answered my question
The best part of going there is to people watch, so this is not a bad thing. You'll always find a spot and it'll always be interesting.
its often not busy - and central park is massive and loads of space but yeh its never like the 1st image unless the weathers terrible
Central park is awesome. I went on a very nice day in May, it was an amazing walk.
Visiting The Acropolis Of Athens, Greece
Well, the photo "after" shows Propylaia of Acropolis and not Parthenon. The temple is at the back of the photographer.
So, the crowd is still outside the Parthenon? Which is the point of the article?
Load More Replies...The second photo is not Parthenon,so misleading photo. The weather in Athens is almost always shiny, all the beautiful area around Parthenon is only permitted to walk by feet so no fuels. The feeling of having this incredibly beautiful monument in front of you just can not be described, pictures really can't show this because the monument does not just stand on the ground, but its like if its lifting to the sky.And where it looks ruined is because Turkish put bombs to destroy it and an English man called Lord Elgin stole pieces of the monument and transfered them to England where they still are despite of so many calls to return them to Parthenon.
1st Picture: Parthenon 2nd Picture: Entrance to Parthenon -Depiction of crowd true
When I was there in November some years ago it wasn't crowded at all! If you really want to see everything, summer is not best time to go there I guess :)
I love the everything what has something of the stories of gods, all the mythology, thoughts, customs, rituals, etc. This piece of history, brings a lot of stories and myths
I was alone on the Acropolis with five other people for more than 25 minutes. Again, get up early and move ahead of the crowds.
Not yet but saw the lost city of ( tablet won't let me type word) in Libya.
Visiting Hall Of Mirrors In The Palace Of Versailles, France
I was there and hall wasn't full like that, just few groups of people
This is exactly what it was like when I was there. I really think they need to limit the number of people who come at a time. There were so many people, it was hard to breathe in the heat with people squashing you every which way. The palace was beautiful and I would probably go again, given the chance. But really, you should have to buy tickets for a particular time like you do for the movies, theatre or football game. It would be a far more pleasant experience for everyone. Maybe not as much income, but better for all.
Oh stop with this s**t... you can clearly see the picture has been digitally f****d with VREENAK.jpg
I doubt it, this is what it was like when I was ther in 2013
Load More Replies...I was there on my vacation four days ago and this is completely true! Couldn't even enjoy it with so many people! On a normal Tuesday :/
Admiring The Glorious Niagara Falls, Which Marks The Border Between Canada And USA
The Niagra Falls one is not true. I live 30 mins away. It is not that busy. Usualy very calm.
Load More Replies...lol what a lie!! That was when Nik Wallenda walked over the Falls on a tightrope!!! It is NEVER that busy lol
Exactly, this was the Nik Wallenda tightrope walk. I live 10 minutes away. It's never overcrowded. You can really enjoy the beauty without being pushed or shoved.
Load More Replies...I've gone to Niagara Falls all my life, and it is busy on occasion, but not like this. Only during special events, like New Years and Canada Day. The busiest part is the line up for the maid of the mist. Other than that, it's very easy to walk around and take in the beautiful view.
I can see Superman flying into the falls to rescue that kid !
Load More Replies...I have been there more times than I can count and it's NEVER been that crowded
That was taken when Nik Wallenda walked the tightrope across the falls. It's a busy enough place, but not that crowded!
That was when Wallendas walked the tight rope. Normally not like this
this was taken when the due was on the tight rope. Its always quiet at the falls.. lots of spots to view and relax!
Exploring Arashiyama Bamboo Forest In Japan
It really isn't that bad actually. Quite a pleasant walk and not that much people, especially in the morning.
Agree with that. Just come early or late, and you have no problem at all enjoying it. I came there around 18:00, and my son and I were almost alone, with only a group of french tourists.
Load More Replies...This is very true.... but you can still go early in the morning and have it all for you !
looks the same. I would assume that there would be other people there, since its open the public.
The first photo was enhanced and used a slightly convex lens, or a slightly-fish-eye lens...the second one was not enhanced and used a normal (flat) camera lens.
Camping In The Himalayas
Not really fair, as the 2nd photo was taken during a concert by Yeti McYeti and the snowglobes.
Load More Replies...Come on there are loads of places to camp in the Himalayas without people.
Walking By The Howrah Bridge In Kolkata, India
They couldn't remove it all using Photoshop :))
Load More Replies...india is a filthy place the rubbish is shocking - and no one seems to care - there's people sat around everywhere just looking at it - this is a country with a billion people a space program and nuclear weapons yet they cant keep their so called sacred land clean.....horrible
This river is considered to be the most holy and pious river those are people of kolkata who probably go there every day to take a bath i do not see any tourists there. Every morning there is the same view. :/
Exploring Antelope Canyon Arizona, USA
We were there in august. A group of altogether 6 people. You just have to wait a moment for the others to go on. :-)
During high season it is so much better to take a photo-tour here.More time, less people.
Who took this picture? I am in it while taking snap of my wife..
I went there four times trying to get a perfect shot. Never gonna happen unless someone sneaks you in. Tour groups enter 24/7 from BOTH ends, ensuring foot traffic.
Having Family Fun Time At The Water Park
The family appears to be in a hotel, and swimming pools in hotels are often empty enough. As for public pools in China...I'm sorry but no amount of heat would ever make me want to dive in there. How is that remotely enjoyable? I'd have a panic attack.
Picture of a bus in UK and flip it with a crowded bus pic from Bangladesh. Its the same as these two images cropped Chinese public pool and a pool at a hotel. This doesn't fit in with the title.
That's a water park somewhere in China...it's really that full. And while most water parks are crowded in the summe it's nowhere nearly that bad. xD
Well first of all you have a very clearly, not Asian family in the first pic( which looks like it was taken at a resort) and the second pic is clearly taken somewhere in Asia.....I'm not impressed or convinced
Admiring Wat Rong Khun Temple In Thailand
We've been here on a touristy season and there's not this much people. Maybe it just depends on the time and season? These two photos are not even the same angles! lol. So one-sided.
Been to this temple 3 times...im sorry but all the times i have been there its never been like this. I have some beautiful pictures of this place! One of the best places to visit a must on a Thailand trip!
Exactly true. Been there last year in March 2015 and it's super crowded with tourists even during hot and humid days..
Enjoying James Bond Island In Thailand
I went there on a boat during the spring there, it had no people and was beautiful!
This is very true. I went there in May 2015, and was disappointing. People and tourist stalls everywhere. Ruined a lovely national park area. Finally managed to get a picture without other tourists in it!
Getting Goosebums In Front Of The Ancient Temple Of Abu Simbel In Egypt
I don't know if I'd want to get the "goosebums." Is that like the chicken pox?
unfortunately not true, I've been there this summer and we were nearly the only group there as everyone is afraid to go. And this is an incredible place to visit
I just learned about this in school! Not suprised that its that crowded
Walking Across The Capilano Suspension Bridge In Vancouver, Canada
It's better around Christmas, in the evening as it gets dark, the whole areas is decorated in lights.
have to disagree with this one also, i was just there a month ago and took a picture just like the empty one with just me and a few people in the back
2nd picture is nothing. There were absolutely no space for yourself anymore
Visiting The Forbidden City In Beijing, China
I suppose it can be called "The Busy City. Formerly known as The Forbidden City."
Load More Replies...When I went, it was just like the first picture, but that was earlier in the day. By the time the sun starts setting, everyone clears out, and you can get some amazing pictures. My pictures are empty of people.
We were there in October, pre-COVID, it was packed shoulder. Very similar situation along the Great Wall.
Not as bad as people make it out to be. The pic captures it quite well; crowded sometimes, but not umbearably crowded, if you remember to stray just a little away from the central south-north axis of the Forbidden City.
Swimming With Dolphins
you don't swim with dolphins! You touch some poor animal prisoner in a few square meters. Please don't do that!
Im still wondering why my body dont look like that when i go swimming???
I've always wanted to do this, but only in the wild and if they choose to come to me. I'm happy just watching them free and jumping in a ships wake or basically anywhere that's free. Such beautiful, intelligent creatures. They should never be kept in cages and/or tanks. It is very possible that they are smarter than humans.
So true, swimming with dolphins is not a glamorous, glorious activity
Visiting The Sydney Opera House, Australia
This is another exaggeration....there are plenty of times you can visit the Opera House when it is not crowded.
Not the same angle. And youve included crowds of people at bars / restaurants between Circular Quay and the Opera House. Which is probably from a Friday or Saturday evening. The front, as in the first picture, is not always crowded.
I've walked around there with hardly anyone in sight. Nomadic_Ga...3b63ee.jpg
I stayed near the opera house. Was amazing after midnight. Almost no people
Tasting Thailand’s Exotic Food In Bangkok, Thailand
These two photos are from different places, one photo is from a floating market outside of Bangkok way less crowded than the one close to the city.
The best food comes from places like the after pic. The before pic is from a tourist trap thats a HUGE ripoff. After living here for 5years now I can tell you that if you see many thai people at a street food place... thats the food you want. If you see many white people... stay away.
It's totally different place! The first one is from floating market, but another one you can find from any street in Thailand. Please check before public the picture. Tourists may misunderstand from your post.
I don't see anything wrong with the before or after on this photo. This is why people hate tourists. It's called living and culture not going somewhere just because you want your life to feel like a postcard. This is one of the most ignorant posts I've ever seen from you guys.
Anytime You're Admiring The Blooming Sakura Trees
These two photos are from different places, one in in Kyoto and the other probably Ueno park in Tokyo. This comparison makes no sense.
Oh, it does. Whenever you try to admire the blooming trees there's always a horde of tourists with soap cameras, iPads and phones trying to take the perfect shot. Or actually, just any shot, from 10 angles, with zoom and so on. Just not admiring the blooming.
Load More Replies...If you're admiring the blooming trees you wouldn't point a camera at girls in bloom.
You can still find a bunch of places in Kyoto without this crowd when cherry blossoms are at their best
BEAUTIFUL. The "bad" pic makes the trees look even better, from contrast <3
Yes, because I would surely expect that no one else out of the 125 mill inhabitants and the 30 mill yearly tourists to Japan will ever go hanami'ing :-)
So...a mountaineous island with a pop density of around 350/sq.km. - kinda impossible not to have crowds somewhere sometimes. That being said, you can definately find quiet and uncrowded places in Japan. Just not in the middle of Kyoto or Tokyo in the hanami season.
The first photo is one of the bridges over the Meguro river in Tokyo, just next to the Naka-Meguro subway station, very close to where I work. The second photo seems to be either Ueno or Yoyogi Park. Not to say these places don't get crowded, but it's not as bad.
Exploring The Amazing Architectural Details Of Gaudi's Casa Mila In Barcelona, Spain
Casa Mila was covered for restoration in 2014, that's old news! Last October was amasing and fully uncovered!
I went in 2014 and it wasn't covered! Maybe for a little while, but I definitely saw it uncovered.

Ohh I expect to take all this awesome pictures, and then the outcome is you take s****y photos or your expectations about your trip being legendary turn out to be just pretty regular places. I don't think they're trying to say it's bs don't go there, they're just poking fun at tourists and photoshopped awesome photos travel agencies show you.
I've bien there 2 week-end ago and it was the same as the "expectation" picture and not as the "reality" picture...
Admiring The Breathtaking Machu Picchu Scenery, Peru
GO EARLY! I was there before the influx of tour buses came in! And it was sooooo worth it!
Easy to miss the crowds. 1t_machupi...44df15.jpg

Sad that it is closed because of tourist damage. Most people who go to these places have no idea what they are looking at or the history behind them. They just go to say they've been there and think they impress their friends. There are enough pictures and videos without people destroying magnificent sites.
When i went there, i got the feeling that all that people wanted to do was take a selfie. It was really crowded (and i got there very early, earley enough to go on the first climb to Huayna Picchu) and because of the terrible need that people has of taking a 1000 selfies everywhere, everytime you can't really capture the magic. I love this place, but i wasn't the magical place i thought it would be. One picture is great, even five.... but why twenty on every damn spot you could find?
First thing In the morning and it is clear, even with a couple of hundred people, the place is so big you don't see them in the shot.
Exploring The Pristine Temples Of Angkor Wat, Cambodia
The premise of most of these is some variation of "oh no, there's OTHER PEOPLE here, vacation ruined." You're not the only person in the whole wide world, you know. There's a lot out there, difference being most of them don't consider each other's presence to be a scenery-spoiling, expectation-destroying hindrance. If anything, it shows just how awesome these places are that folks from around the whole world come to enjoy them together. Grow, and lighten, up.
I was there in 1996 - two locals in that second pic at 1:30pm Nobody round half the outside of Angkor, nobody at Ta Phrom at 8:30 am. You suckers missed the good times. Sorry...
Not 101% correct, but I really enjoyed this article. It is a very good example of what to expect and not only count on research info before the trip. As a photographer this is a situations of frustration, but as a professional being able to take the max out of every situation I could tell you it is quite easy - go there early in the morning or late in the evening. Everything shall be better and the overall feeling is completely different. Thanks for putting the article together.
Enjoying A Hike In Yosemite National Park, United States
Having spent considerable time at Yosemite I can say the second photo is of a very touristy 'scenic view', but there are plenty of places to be all alone, if you are willing to get out into the woods.
Exactly, this isn't a "hike" this is just standing at the viewing platform. You can go deep into the park and be away from people. However if one plans to do this then they should also prepare as there are things to be weary of and going deeper into parks without enough water and supplies, even for a day trip can be hazardous.

This is Glacier Point where a ranger is telling the story of Yosemite and showing you the surrounding. so these are just people who stay there to listen.
These photos are from one extreme to another first photo is like brochure, but day for a picture, the 2nd is the busiest day or the year for each place.
I went during the week in October. It was gorgeous and nobody was there.
To sum things up we need Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet to set all things right
Wonderful, what a weblog it is! This blog gives helpful to now new tourist places around the globe.

Come to Lithuania - there's a lot to see and like 14 people live here.
These are funny, but not entirely accurate. Of course it will be more crowded during events. And does any tourist honestly expect to be the *only* one visiting a famous landmark?! I can also say from experience that it's possible to get that "perfect" shot, but you can't expect to do it at Noon. I have some great "quiet" photos, but I had to get up at 5am to get them!
exactly. and most times if you get up early the sights can be amazing. I was driving back to Telford after a holiday, and the sunrise at half four was stunning, just wish I had photos

If you wake up early, you really have gorgeous pictures! I have them! no people around.
I think these expectations are a bit far fetched, but the reality doesn't have to be as bad as they make out. For example - Yosemite - going in the summer, to the most popular viewpoint at sunset is going to be busy - but there's plenty of wilderness and other times of the year to feel like you're the last person on earth.
Thailand Floating Market it True. I was just there a week ago. Thailand still has many other Amazing places.
I've traveled to many of these places, and a lot of them were taken during festivals or tourist seasons. It's very misleading.
I have been to Greece and Paris, and some other European countries and can relate to all of these images. Great to be able to visit all these beautiful places and historic sites but love the take of this.
