Nature can be far more bizarre than you might expect. What animals get up to when there are no human beings around would remain a complete mystery if not for the existence of trail cameras.
As autumn sets in and the days get shorter, we thought that it might be time to get you all in a spooky mood. That’s why the Bored Panda team has scoured the far corners of the internet to bring you the creepiest and most unnerving photos ever captured by trail cams. Scroll down for the eeriest pics. But keep in mind, it’s not just animals that ended up in the frame…

Possum Pulling Ticks Off A Deer's Face. Tick Infestations Are Serious In The Dry Months And Have Even Killed Young Ones. Possums Love To Eat Ticks. This Trail Cam Photo Shows How Nature In Balance Works
And to think Flower could have been a possum instead of a skunk in Bambi.
Load More Replies...How did their paths cross? Is that a tick eating station, like fish have ras cleaning stations?
I love possums. Literally the best critter to have around, they are so helpful at keeping away pests and don't bother humans. They are also naturally resistant to many viruses
I knew it! Opposums are very practical and friendly animals! Preserve the opposums! (even if they eat cat food)
I think I have one that visits my outdoor cat food bowls - I’m thinking of getting a ring just to see. I should be mad, but I just like them so much! I just worry about it getting dependent on the food.
Load More Replies...It gets pretty bad. My uncle has a lake house where the deer will walk up do you to see if you have any corn, one buck's ears were covered in engorged ticks. It was disgusting and sad.
Trail Cam. Raccoons Stack Up For The Feeder
I'm waiting for one of them to produce a screwdriver.
Load More Replies...They are so smart and will coordinate too. When camping with my dog (the door zipper had broken and there was a tarp over the door.) A couple would make a sound and lure him out to chase them while another would sneak in the door to get his food. He just looked at me like uhhhh you don't see me and then took off with it. Fearless, smart, and scavengers.
Trail cameras are incredibly versatile tools. They allow researchers, conservationists, and photographers to take pictures without disturbing the local wildlife or ecosystem. Though some wildlife photographers prefer lying in wait for the perfect shot, in some cases, that might be impractical, so they rely on trail cams.

Pupper ancestors, then. They are most assuredly NOT puppers.

Bald Eagle Size vs. Grey Wolf, Caught On Trail Cam
This image is Photoshopped/fake. That’s not even a gray wolf, that’s a coyote. Also, a bald eagle’s wingspan can be 8 feet or so, but they weigh like 15 lbs tops. They’re also rarely taller than 2-3 feet tall. Gray wolves, on the other hand, can weigh upwards of 100-150 lbs. Even coyotes (adult) will outsize and outweigh a bald eagle, though - coyotes are usually 20-40 lbs depending on location, and around 2 feet tall at the shoulder. So, even though this isn’t even a wolf in the image, the eagle is made to look larger than it actually would be.
Load More Replies...I don't know who needs to hear this, but that is photoshopped. Bald eagles do not get this big, and this photo has caused wide internet arguments.

Load More Replies...Generally, trail cams are motion-activated, weatherproof, and have infrared capabilities for taking pics in the dark. These tools are also known by a variety of different names, including wildlife cameras, remote cameras, game cameras, and even camera traps. The very earliest cameras of this type actually used tripwires to trigger the tool.
Black Panther Caught On Trail Cam In Georgia
It’s cute, but it’s not a “black panther” from “Georgia”. Both melanistic leopards and jaguars can (and are) called “black panthers”, but NEITHER are native to Georgia. This is a black leopard from South Africa, specifically.
Load More Replies...What the hell is a black panther going in Georgia??? Who abandons such an animal in the wild? What happened to the poor thing?
Because it was never in Georgia (neither the state or country). this image has been doing the rounds for years now, it's actually a photo taken in South Africa of a melanistic leopard that lives in captivity. It's name is/was Cole.
Load More Replies...There is an American black panther according to google.
Load More Replies...In Georgia? These big cats are not found in Georgia, usually one bobcats. Someone pulling a fast one over on us?
There have been sightings of them in the mountains up north (nearly to Murphy) for many years. I always thought it hilarious that folks would not accept the possibility of them (panthers) but will absolutely believe that Bigfoot roams the mountains.

Load More Replies...Trail cams can help gather visual data about the animal population in a given area and track their habits. For instance, you can use the photos and the time they were taken to track what animals feed when, how large their social groups are, and how different species interact with each other.

Given how small the wolf population is US-wide, it's far more likely these are Coyotes.

Owls will attack almost anything if its' nest is thought to be in danger.
Yes I saw on TV some people dressing up to go putting rings on baby owls. They wore thick protective cloathing and gloves, helmet and visor. Some passer by asked why, and were told that owls could be really dangerous (at least for peoples eyes) when defending their babys.
Load More Replies...For example, by tracking the local wildlife you might learn about some rather unusual but wholesome cross-species cooperation. Badgers and coyotes, both the top predators in their own respective food chains, actually hunt together for small animals in the American West. It’s the type of camaraderie that you’re likely to see in a Disney animation.
My Uncle Has A Trail Cam At My Old Grandparents House Which Are Both Dead And The House Is Abandoned. The Camera Takes 3 Pics Every Time A Motion Is Detected.this Thing Only Appears In 1 Out Of 3 Of The Photos. No Idea. Not Saying Is A Ghost Cause I Don’t Really Believe Them

Opossum Pushes Skunk In Pond
possums are really out there in force, eating ticks and living their best lives
Skunk: *Sprays* Opossum: "You dirty f*cker!" *Pushes skunk into pond*
As National Geographic points out, coyotes and badgers don’t just have a transactional relationship either. They’re friendly with each other: they’re actual partners and suddenly friendship doesn’t seem like a ‘human-only’ trait anymore. Many of us wouldn’t have known about this without nighttime footage taken by the Peninsula Open Space Trust, a nonprofit group.
Trail Cam Crawler?
There's a forest demon that honours the hunt. It stalks the forest looking for hunters and watches them. If the hunter wastes nothing and takes what he needs and not what he wants he will be safe. Whoa betide any hunter that hunts for fun and leaves his kills after taking a trophy for this creature will confuse the hunter until they are lost in the forest and then it will strike! Taking all but the skin which it hangs on a tree branch with the skins of it's other kills

However, it’s not just animals that can activate trail cams. Any significant or sudden movement can trigger the motion sensors. That means that these cameras can pick up people walking around the forest in the middle of the night and spooky, blurred objects that you can’t quite make out. Naturally, our minds go wild when looking at these photos, with our imaginations filling in the gaps and weaving theories about what exactly happened out there.

What The Hell Is This.. Trail Cam Ghost?
So we're all just ignoring the top left huh. "Add to creation". Or the top right "undo changes" icon. Okay then.
Body heat can also activate these cams, when within a certain range of the detectors. This is a practical design decision. Trail cams don’t take photos or videos continuously because that would drain their batteries incredibly quickly. Some cams come with the ability to connect them to an external power source or even solar panels, so this gives them extra longevity.
Taken On Friends Property Says He Feels Uneasy When He's Near This Spot
He sat as he watched the man go by. The man shuddered as he neared but went past. "I hate this place, it's creepy" said the man as he hurried on. He took the last of his sandwich and ate it delicately and drank from his water bottle. He stood, stretched and put the lid on his bottle. Time to go back to work he said as he picked up his scythe
My first thought was "Outline of Brendan Fraser. Body by Encino Man, hair by George of the Jungle." I really need more sleep.
"From a certain angle, some people would say he looks like a smudge." Iykyk
Looks more like a double exposure to me; but I do like the effect!
Shawnee Oklahoma Trailcam
When I was kid in SmallTown California, there was a lady who wandered the streets between 1am - 4am wearing a ballgown and screaming about the Nazis so who knows?
🎶 Oooooo-klahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain. 🎶 The state with a state license plate saying "Oklahoma is OK" because they couldn't spell "adequate."
So, my question is, if we do remain as ghosts, what are we wearing for eternity? The clothes we died in, were buried in, our favorite outfit?
Oh God, I hope it's our favourite most comfortable outfit. However, maybe I should start wearing jammies everywhere so that when I die I can wear them for eternity! And not an outfit with one of those damned scratchy tags!

While some cameras store all the photos on internal memory cards, others can transmit all the data to you, wherever you might be. That means that, depending on the gear that you’ve bought, you could watch what’s happening in nature live, from the comfort of your office or home.
10.19.19 My Trail Camera Captured A Strange Image. The Previous Owner’s Ashes Were Spread On Our Property
I scattered my husband's ashes in my garden. I sincerely hope he doesn't visit bc it would p**s me off !
I spread my dad's in an area where dog walkers go. He will 100% be coming back to try and pet the dogs.
Load More Replies...Notice how all the 'scary' pictures are super dark / grainy / blurry? Either fake or just so bad you can't clearly see what it is to give it a logical explanation.
She looked forlornly at the area where her ashes had been scattered. A ghostly tear rolled slowly down her cheek. She looked toward the house and saw a light on. 'He is still up. It is so late... good' Her face shifted into a vicious scowling skull as she drifted toward the house 'Now he will pay for burning me to death!'
We had a friend who was a medium and who said, "There's someone in your house dressed up for soccer." (He explained what he looked like, etc.) I said, "Sounds like my dad." Then said, "Ask him what he thinks of the improvements we've made to the house since he died." The medium said, "He's laughing." So, definitely my dad then!
Taken On My Elder Family Members Trail Camera In Ky
Someone walking down a short incline, the 2 tree trunks behind him makes it look like they’re his horns.
Time to invest in a better Trail camera, with auto focus and more pixels. . .!
It’s perfectly all right to feel creeped out or unnerved by some of these pics. However, most of the photos featured in this list (probably) have a logical explanation about what’s going on. Faults with the motion detectors, infrared tech, flash, and the memory cards themselves can mean that some photos get taken when there are only harmless shadows around or that the image gets corrupted somehow.
Meanwhile, dirt on the lens, weird angles, the wind, animals too small or too quick to be noticed, or even random people passing by can make the entire scene seem creepier than it actually is.

This is clearly a demon from the seventh level of Hell. You're perfectly safe as long as you remember to feed it 12 virgins each fortnight. As an added bonus, it will protect your land and befriend you if you throw it the heart of a unicorn every once in awhile.
Trail cameras offer a fascinating glimpse into the unseen lives of wildlife, capturing heartwarming and surprising interactions. In particular, they have revealed how animals, like opossums, play critical roles in natural ecosystems.
By showing their helpful nature in reducing tick populations, these unexpected interactions between species highlight the interconnected web of life, offering us a deeper appreciation of nature's wonders.
How to think logically: “I see a blurry, low resolution image. It must be a ghost.”
One always has to wonder if these are real or they had someone dress up weird and walk through the property once within range of the camera. Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble of be,if, but there are lots of charlatans out there who would do exactly that and claim it’s supernatural or Sasquatch or aliens or something, just to bet their 15 minutes of fame. Don’t get me wrong, I truly think these things just might exist, but I also need concrete proof, something set up using strict scientific method, 100% fraud-resistant, witnessed by unbiased scientists-and for the FIRST time, getting clear high definition pictures and videos where you can see every single detail. I am sick to death of fuzzy pictures that could be anything being touted as the real thing. I’m not gullible, I have to see clear pictures and proof they’re not faked, to even try to believe they’re real.
