As the days go by, time seems to move faster and faster. It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It feels like only yesterday that we were celebrating the start of a new year.
At the same time, our perception of time is subjective. Some will say that they just had the longest week, others will argue that the whole year, if not more, has passed in a glimpse of an eye.
Same with decades, and even half centuries. Most of my fellow millennials who were born in the '90s and are now in their 20s or 30s will feel like only yesterday we drank Capri Sun, listened to Avril Lavigne, and watched Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.

This changed EVERYTHING. This was when parents were still pulling their kids out of school with Ryan White because they thought they'd get teh AIDS from a drinking fountain. This is when Republicans actually wore masks because they were so afraid of gay people. Someone like Diana touching a man with full-blown AIDS, bare-handed, was something we didn't see... until she did it. This was one of her most important acts of service.

30th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew is 8/24/22. My in-laws were at ground zero in Homestead, FL. & lost 6 roof tiles. The home behind them was flattened. Miami Metrozoo, as it was known then, was devastated, as was Monkey Jungle. I'm a bit north of where Andrew landed, but still felt it. I'll never forget that day.

Some countries will give nationality if they were born in their airspace. This is all I could find about this specific operation. “Eight babies were born during "Operation Solomon". Five boys and three girls. On most of their identity cards, in the section "Country of Birth" they have written "en route to Israel." Almost all were born pre- term. Their first names were given to them by medical staff on the plane.”

I was at the infamous Montreal concert of that tour on August 8, 1992. Faith no More was the most concert we got that night. Then, James Hetfield got burned on stage (pyrotechnics issue) during Fade to Black intro. Waited 2,5 hours for Guns to show up onstage, they played only 45 minutes and quit. Frustrated people then rioted the place (Montreql Olympic Stadium). I was 16, had just gotten my driver's license and drove from Quebec City in ny parent's borrowed car. So many memories.

The 90s were so amazing for great movies. It was hard to choose a winner back then. Now it's like...kind of obvious who is going to win and it's usually fairly easy to see which movies will be nominated. For instance, in 1993 Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Philadelphia, In the Name of The Father, What's Love Got to Do With It, The Piano, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, In the Line of Fire, The Firm... were just a handful of the movies that came out that year. I would put any one of them up against any Oscar nominees today and they'd win. Hell, Adams Family Values and A Nightmare Before Christmas came out that year, too, and I'd vote for them over some of the movies that have been nominated in the last few years, lol.

The wording confused me a little too, because I know there were survivors who died at later dates. But it says “oldest living survivor” which I’m assuming just means she literally lived to be the one of the oldest age, not the one who died last.

Killing, maiming, injuring, dropping lethal tons of Agent Orange on civilian populations....as well as missiles and bombs. The M16 (predecessor to AR-15 was very advanced compared to their weapons. So.....we abandoned them, but brought the effects of Agent Orange home. I have friends whose children and grandchildren are still affected by this insidious poison. I'm sure the US used all their modernized implements to engage with Afghanistan and Iraq. We never find out how much illegal, deadly things were utilized there. Just relieved Biden extricated military from Afghanistan.

Mine survived a night I fell asleep with it in my hands and I peed to bed. A little water logged but ended up working again. Don't make things like they used to. Henry Rollins is such a great musician. He really knows music and music history and he's not just a rocker. I watched this special he did on how he wished kids would learn more about the history of the type of music they love. He spoke about blues artists and R+B, and how blues helped to evolve rock music to what it became. And he spoke about classical music and a number of other styles with such a wonderful knowledge and understanding I was really impressed.

I saw Sister Act and Honey I blew up the baby at the movies and it’s wild to think the cinema probably looked like this. I thought it was so modern at the time. It had a Baskin Robins and a pick n mix sweet bar (candy bar). Good times with my best pal Jodie. We aren’t close now but she’s doing well and I’m so glad. Such good memories.

Near the end of the 2001 season, Tim "Rock" Raines was traded from the Expos to the Orioles so he could play with his son, also named Tim (must have been confusing for the announcers!). This has just reminded me of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993. The Bosnia and Herzegovina group competing had literally had to run across a field to a waiting helicopter whilst snipers fired at them to get out of the country to compete. And then during the voting when it went to Sarajevo for their scores everyone clapped really loudly but then had to ssshhh because you could barely hear the person speaking. It was sort of shocking but also amazing that the spirit of Eurovision was still so strong despite what they had been through.

This war is still vivid in my mind, more so than any others that occurred in my lifetime, until Ukraine. Maybe it was seeing and reading about people my age fighting for their survival and the fact that there was more footage of civilians than I had ever remembered seeing before. I had a friend who was an exchange student from Sarajevo who also saw, in fairly real time, the horror that was unfolding and she couldn't do a thing about it. Her parents escaped to Spain and I was with her the first time she was able to speak to them - I'd never seen emotion like that. I lost track of her after we graduated and she joined her family in Spain. I wish I could find her just to know how her life is now.

OMG about five or so years ago, I had a wrong number text from some lady, asking if I had "found the bananas". I feigned concern, and told her I didn't realize they were missing, and that this was terrible. Then I asked her if she'd filed a police report about them, and if she'd last seen them in pajamas, coming down the stairs. She must have been older, because she had no idea what I was talking about. Then I excitedly told her I thought I'd got them, and sent a picture of the bananas from the show, asking, "Is this them??" She was so confused, LMAO! She legit thought I was her family member, messing with her! It was one of the funniest things I've ever had happen!

When you hear her talk in interviews you realize how scared she was doing this kind of publicity. She had a crippling fear of public speaking and even had a hard time acting in front of a set full of people. You can see it in some of her dialogue when she's in movies- her mouth becomes a little shaky. But it just came off as a quirk and worked for her. She was and still is so beautiful. You can see a lot of her daughter in her.
