For those who think that few good things, if any, came out of the pandemic, let me remind you how we all became at least a little bit more mindful and self-reflective. After all, many people developed new hobbies (or at least tried them!) like knitting or baking, while others took on projects they never had time for, like renovating an old garage in their backyard.

And those who were especially dedicated have turned up with some seriously impressive results. Thanks to the corner of Reddit known as “Something I Made,” we have an amazing collection of DIY projects to get you inspired.

Think of a beautiful handmade gown, a Roman bust aquarium, iridescent stained glass—it seems like nothing was impossible for these creative people who gave their idle hands some work to do.

Psst! Part 1 of the article with more incredible stuff people made while in quarantine waits right here.

“Eventually, this morphed into making stickers of other subjects. I opened an Etsy shop as a platform to sell my work,” the sticker artist recounted. However, during the turbulent election in 2020, @weenphisher76 became inspired to make not only lighthearted and fun stickers, but also ones that elicit conversation. “I usually choose subjects that are controversial or demand conversation. I like to offer a counter-narrative to the hegemony of American culture,” they explained and added that “I try to stay abreast of pop culture phenomena and political current events.”

Not too hard to do: Get a projector ($60?) connected to a laptop and scale up a drawing as needed. [First project a grid so you see how precise it is or not, and do 'lens correction' filter in photoshop, tweaking parameters until the grid looks good, then apply the same settings to the picture.]

When it comes to the whole process, @weenphisher76 said that “I make my stickers after I come home at night. I usually design a sticker in one sitting, that’s how I work.”

The sticker artist said that the support from people who appreciate their art is very important. “I love how my ideas and art have been accepted by many who have been suffering through the pandemic and need a laugh or feel that they are empowered and that they are not alone in this fight,” the artist concluded.

It’s worth noting that their bumper sticker which says “I like my women how I like my coffee… Strong and Valued in the workplace” has amassed 5k upvotes on the r/SomethingIMade subreddit, where people share all the DIY projects they create.

This is what acrylic pouring is, as told by google Acrylic Paint Pouring is a fluid painting technique used to create art by pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas. ... The Acrylic Pouring technique allows artists to apply colour in puddles, pools and marble-like patterns. Pouring results in a smooth, glossy paint film that is perfectly even and blemish free.

Love this. Just wondering if you'll set the birds looking for how to get into real security cameras. Can see a lot of confused CCTV operators with birds pecking at the lenses! :D

This happens already. Some birds will peck at their reflection because they think it's a rival.

The maker has a video on how he did it. I had initially assumed the pieces were steam-bent, but it actually much simpler. They are laminated from edge-banding veneer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHe1QZBfn8g

You have to be careful to choose the right paint. Some paints react chemically with the plastic and weaken it.

This is very pretty although ill advised as some paints can damage the integrity of this vital safety equipt. Sorry to be the buzzkill, but as someone who has worked in the bicycling industry for nearly forty years, one has to be careful and check with the mfr. before exposing these to any kind of chemicals no matter how benign one might think they are.

I love this portrait so much. I keep seeing artists on Instagram etc and there seems to be a school of thought that art has to be hyper realistic. I really prefer this style where you can see the artistry, see the brush strokes and still get a sense of the subject, even though some of it is left for the mind to fill in. I’m not detracting from realism, but sometimes I think you may as well have taken a photo.

People should not feel ashamed. But sometimes they get bullied so hiding obvious signs can be a way to avoid abuse. (I train Service Dogs and Therapy Animals for people with disabilities so I've learned a thing or two.)

Start with the prices. My dad's cost $4000. Then most of those have the microphone in the little case that goes behind the ear. That means folks can hear stuff from behind louder than in front. And they've become so "smart" that a lot of old folks can't figure out the app that controls them.

Is this the Harry styles cardigan that went viral in tick toc? It started with someone (maybe the op) swing Harry styles where a cardigan like this and recreating it during lockdown. When she posted it to tic tock hundreds of other people made it too. It resulted in the actual designer releasing the pattern and there is now the original and the first home made one in the V&A museum.

It depends on precisely what it's made of. I recognize the hobby-store faux moss, which should be flame retardant. The twine is really my biggest concern here. Jute just LOVES to catch on fire.
