You are completely right. The problem is that a majority of people lack the ability to use common-sense or think for themselves.

My even spicier take is that influencers do orders of magnitude less harm than the people who sit in the corner office and order the enslavement of children so that they can buy another yacht. Hell, they do less harm than every middle class person who buys up a house and uses it as an AirB&B, leaving other members of their community without housing. It’s just that influencers tend to be young people, particularly young women, and hating that demographic is more popular.

Not the same thing. People share a wide variety of opinions here. You might get downvoted for a different opinion, which is a bit toxic, but besides that we usually make fun of the influencer articles

Think it is just BP? Anyone who wants to make money on YouTube has to censor themselves to the nines to get past censorship or be demonetized. Sex, porn, drugs, suicide, or any other unwholesome topic.

Another argument is that term-limits are anti-democratic. If the people in a congressional district want to have the same person represent them over and over, that's their democratic choice. If you want to remove the bad career politicians, reinstate some real campaign finance laws. Under the current system, the more corrupt you are, the longer you can stay in office.

When the U.S. formed, government service was a SERVICE. People served their country then went back to profiting from slavery. Since slavery is frowned upon (technically: for profit prisons, nonlivable wages, credit scores, horrible loan rates), they turned politics into a major profit center (see Citizens United as an example).

The problem is that people who’d be a great president don’t want to be president because they understand all the responsibilities that come with it, and people who want to be president often shouldn’t be president because they just want the power. Also these days you pretty much have to be rich to be president cuz you need money for your campaign, and rich people are often detached from reality and don’t really fully see the problems that the less fortunate face.

Jacinda Ardern was a lifetime politician. Our new prime minister is a former CEO who hates Māori sovereignty and letting disabled people have enough to live on. I know who I prefer.

Your counterpoint would have more merit if the long term politicians actually showed an aptitude for administering a country that is greater than their aptitude for toeing the party line. A combination of enforcement of or changes to term limits, salary caps and in office/retirement benefits would go a long way toward getting politicians back to being people who actually want to do the job as a way to affect change within government and society. As it currently stands we've got people who spend exponentially more money to get a job that pays a pittance in comparison and there has to be a reason for them to do this, and there's not a single one that I know of that shows or proves that their reason is for the betterment of their government or society.

Or at least pass a cognitive ability test. Senile president is a recipe for disaster.

Hearing loss issue.

I am deaf with two cochlear implants. For some reason, bluetooth sound gives me a headache. If I didn't use the speaker phone option, I would not be able to use my phone - that's why. And, I always go to the least public space possible to hold my conversation.

I just turn their way and stare at them without blinking. It makes most people so nervous they stop - or move elsewhere.

Some of us don't hear that well if there's a lot of noise around us.

There was a lady on the trolley talking LOUDLY on her speakerphone about some argument she'd had. So I leaned over and put my face on my upturned palms, in an obvious I am SO listening posture. She looks at me and goes, "Do you mind? This is private". So, I, being the absolute smart-a*s I am said, "Yes, I do. And I'm pretty sure I can speak for the rest of the passengers when I say, if it's so f*cking private STOP TELLING EVERYBODY ALL YOUR BUSINESS. Use some headphones and a lower voice. F*cking dumbass".

Yes, we need to be more accountable to how much we contribute to the things we don't like in this world.

There are far more 'average' people compared to the politicians and rich people. What power do the politicians and rich people actually have over the masses? Why do the masses keep bending to their will?
