I had to look up A'tuin: Great A'Tuin. Great A'Tuin is the Giant Star Turtle (of the fictional species Chelys galactica) who travels through the Discworld universe's space, carrying four giant elephants (named Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon, and Jerakeen) who in turn carry the Discworld.

The Washington coast is spectacular, but most of it is difficult to access. One of my all-time favorite backpacking trips was hiking the coast northward to Cape Alava. Scenery like this with bald eagles circling overhead, and nobody else around once you get a few miles from Rialto Beach.

From a European perspective we refer to saltwater "turtles" as Turtles, with freshwater "turtles" being Terrapins and land types being Tortoises.

*crawling out a wikipedia hole* from a scientific perspective, this creature could be called either a turtle or a terrapin because it belongs to the order "testudines" (turtles) and more specifically the genus "terrapene". Also the common name for this animal is the "North American box turtle". So basically, back when it was discovered they called it turtle, and since then scientists decided to distinguish between different types of turtles by calling some of them terrapins or tortoises, but it's really hard to retcon reality like that and the common name "turtle" has stuck. --- TLDR: the animal in the picture is a turtle (order) and a terrapin (genus) and a "box turtle" (species) all at the same time.

Turtlenecks came about in the Middle Ages to prevent neck chaffing from chain mail. BTW, you're correct. The English name is derived from resemblance of a turtle's head coming out of its shell.
