We often form opinions about others based on the words they say, the actions they take, even the clothes that they wear, and since it's impossible to see the world through their eyes, we have to be extra careful with our perceptions.

At least, that's the theory, which in practice can be really hard. So when Reddit user DolphinsR4evr made a post on the platform, asking everyone "What is something you have a hard time not judging people about?", many had something to share.

From littering to neglecting pets, here are the submissions that received the most attention.

"People With Enormously Obese Pets": 35 Things People Can't Help But Judge Others For Poor treatment of pets.

u/FirehawkLS1 added:

I see that often (I volunteer at our local shelter) and it really makes me angry seeing the people come in and just surrender the dog because they couldn't be bothered to put in the time and dedication. Dogs aren't a damn appliance. They are a living breathing being with feelings. There honestly should be a database that those people get added to that prevents them from ever having a dog in the future if that's the reason why they are surrendering a dog (or any other animal). And I get that there are legimate reasons for surrendering an animal (owner dies and surviving family cannot properly care for it, loss of housing and job, etc).

I work in a restaurant and just today I had to dodge 4 kids doing somersaults on the floor while carrying very heavy trays of food. This isn't a one time thing. Not only is it disrespectful, it's dangerous. I have like 200lbs above your kid, without carrying heavy trays. If I trip and fall on your kid, they could get hurt. I really don't want that on my conscience

Bragging about *reading* books, too. I don't mean people who read something they enjoyed and want to share it with the world. I mean people who make reading their whole personality, talk only about how they're better than others because they read a lot and shame people who don't have time or prefer other hobbies. Or say that it's not a *real* book because it's fanfiction or from the mainstream. Unfortunately I've tons of book-snobs around me - for a few years they legit caused me to dislike reading. Fortunately, it passed.

equally bragging about reading specific kinds of books or putting people down for reading certain kinds of books. i adore childrens books. i spent years reading books from almost every genre (i only say this because someone online called me a childish idiot who obviously could only read kids books because i was stupid and incapable of understanding more mature books). but now i mainly read childrens books. the stories are incredible and i tend to find the stories more exciting and less pretictable than a lot of the other genre. but i also hate people who are like 'if you aren't reading all the classics then you aren't a real reader'

Yet Jamie Oliver has ADHD and dyslexia. He struggled to learn to read as a child and finds reading hard work as an adult. He said "I'm dyslexic and until recently I'd never got through a book". He recorded his first books on a Dictaphone instead of writing them down because of his struggles with dyslexia. It is estimated that one in ten people have a form of dyslexia and many aren't going to find reading a book easy. Doesn't mean they don't enjoy a story or learning, audiobooks have been a real boon for a great many people.

As a smoker, I know it's disgusting. I never smoke indoors and always try to avoid people. If I'm smoking in public, I find a spot far out of the way if people approach I hold my cigarette over my head and try to move further away. I'm especially always watching for kids, they don't need the smoke, neither do any other people. I never, ever smoked around children and indoor smoking is even more disgusting and I don't do that either. I know my habit is gross, it's my choice (hubby and I are trying to quit, it's not easy but it's a goal) but no one else should have to put up with my smoking. I also don't leave the butts lying around, they are field stripped and properly disposed of.
