Well, that's the thing about growing up and gaining what people usually call ‘wisdom’ - that over the years, we change our views on things, and what we believed with all the fervor of a neophyte in our youth seems ridiculous years later. Social media in general. Too many people believe every clickbait headline, or buy in to whatever trend is taking over. Feels like people can't self soothe and need the validation or something, it's just weird.

Having a loud exhaust or sound system in your car.
If you have a car where peak performance is the goal, loud exhaust is just a side effect of making the engine perform better. If you're building a car to take to the track then more power to you. If you have a loud exhaust on your daily driver you're just doing it for attention. There are plenty of performance exhaust systems that have valves to keep noise down at cruising speed and only open up over a certain RPM or with wide open throttle. If you want some more power in your daily go with one of those, keeps everyone happy.
I have a neighbor with an obnoxiously loud car. He parks it behind the house not far from my bedroom window. I'm not sure which is worse: in the warmer months when I want my window open, or the colder months when he lets it run for 30 minutes to warm it up.
Buy him a block heater for Christmas. 30 minutes is a huge waste of energy.

One of the people who lives in my complex and rents the parking spot right outside my window has an extremely tiny penis. I know this because every single morning, he revs up his pseudopenis loud enough to wake me up at 5AM.

Yeah, what I want is an exhaust that sounds good (a lot are very annoying) and is loud enough to be heard but not enough to annoy others, just so I can enjoy it myself and not make others have to deal with it

I like fast cars but not the noise. Honestly the loud pipes are cool for the once in awhile where you want to play race car but the car always sound like that which makes it suck as a daily driver. Some people just way over do it too. I can’t believe it doesn’t drive them nuts. It’s drowning out my music in my car and we’re not even moving.

Having a sound system isn't bad it's believing anyone else wants to hear your music choices.
omg the sound system. I have sensitive ears and this drives me nuts. my work is right next to a self service car wash place and we can hear it horribly loud inside our building sometimes.
It makes me laugh when I hear some little car that has obviously just installed a pair of glass packs (exhaust) or similar to try to make their car sound "bad a*s". As a teen of the 70s I know the satisfying 'gunk gunk gunk' sound of an idling muscle car. (sorry - don't know how to type that sound but if you know you know.) These days a modern small car can also be quite powerful (think Tokyo Drift type car) and they sound different. But both of those types of cars sound different than just sticking noisy mufflers on your car.
I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I grew up around mechanics and car guys, so there was a lot of American Heavy Metal. Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Pontiac, etc. I grew up with Camaro, Impala, Nova, Mustangs, Trans Am's, etc. My childhood was filled with classic cars, Harleys and bikers ( The Outlaws, who are a notorious biker gang ) so speed and how loud you could be were top priority. You would hear them, before you could see them and if not it wasn't loud enough. Everyone had a loud stereo and that was also a point of pride, homemade cabinets and kicker boxes, what kind of sound system you had. The only thing I'm not a fan of is a really heavy bass system that is set so that's all you can hear and it rattles the windows on my house. That is unfortunately popular with the gang and dealers in my hood, so you damn sure won't complain. Especially at 2 am, but I'm not about to tell them to turn it down. I guess it comes down to there is a time and place.
Oh, my neighbours are obviously having a mid life crisis. They've both bought vroom vrooms and delight in revving up in their driveway before turning onto the road.....
