Since I haven't had the luck to be born and to grow up in The United States of America, or any other Western country, but rather an occupation-torn post-Soviet state that has just regained its freedom, I've never actually seen or touched half of the things on this list. And, yet, looking at all these Poo-chi dogs, Polly Pockets, and things like phone charms, I feel a massive wave of 2000s nostalgia!

That's probably because we, as kids, were glued to our screens whenever they showed something like Dawson's Creek or even Hannah Montana, absorbing not only how the characters looked and talked but also the things they had. It was almost like having them yourself! Though speaking of the nostalgic series we used to get during the early 2000s, we'd more often get something as old as The Little House On The Prairie or Doctor Quinn rather than the newest episode of, say, Phineas & Ferb

Nevertheless, I can definitely feel the importance and the impact of the decade on our lives and the early 2000s nostalgia we all collectively feel. Things were changing ever so quickly. Straight from oblivion, we went to the Western civilization and its pop culture with half-naked ladies, boy bands, electronic toys, TV series, and even portable phones (those definitely came out of some witch's brew)! Also, the sense of liberation - both literal freedom regained by my homeland and the one given to us by the ever-expanding World Wide Web - was just overwhelming. So many new cultural experiences and opportunities were never present. Starting, of course, with 2000s nostalgia toys and ending with poking someone on Facebook, this decade was moving into the future at a breakneck pace.

But, without any more of my essayistic babble, let's dive a few decades back and reminisce on the things that we all loved dearly when growing up. From Tamagotchis to pencils with cartridges, and from the old Cartoon Network to flare jeans, you'll find many things that'll remind you of your careless youth. So, share these things from your childhood early 2000s nostalgia list with someone susceptible to the same kind of feelings that you are, and tell us which of these items, pop stars, or games you miss the most!

Today they are, but in the 80s and 90s, during the pre-led, pre-lcd, pre--plasma screen days of old CRT screens, they were literal screen savers. The image on the screen was literally painted on leaded glass by an electron gun. If it stayed on the same image too long, the painting and repainting could literally burn a shadow of the image onto the leaded glass like a photo and your screen would be ruined. I've seen screens with a permanent shadow of an image, and I've seen old TVs with a permanent test pattern (put on old TV stations after they shut down for the night) burned on the screen by people who fell asleep watching tv at night.

Before there were the 2000s, the '90s Paved the Way for Iconic Toys

To find out more about where this 2000s nostalgia is all coming from and what games from our early days we have long forgotten, we reached out to Qudsia Shakeel, the content manager at Moonpig, who recently found out the most iconic gifts of the last 50 years.

It turns out that just before the early 2000s, it was the golden age for toys we consider iconic today. “The '90s were an especially iconic time for toys. Technological advancements presented new opportunities for toys to be much more interactive, making for a truly exciting time for the toy industry,” Qudsia told us. Moreover, she added that “there is a great sense of nostalgia brought back by these toys, the Gameboy and Furbies are seen to be true icons of the decade.”

"The 2000s saw no slowing down in the momentum of great toy production. Those who grew up in the naughties would remember some of the true gems of the era, including the Teksta Robotic Puppy and Beyblades. Not to mention the infamous Tamagochi, which saw children across the world cherishing their very own virtual pet," Qudsia commented. According to her, a combination of new technology and quirky crazes made the early 2000s a standout time for toys.

Why are the 2000s so Nostalgic?

Early 2000s was the time of our childhoods, and if you were to ask anybody how they feel about their childhoods, the answer would always be the same - nostalgic! Yes, it's as simple as that.  Now, Moonpig, a brand that specializes in gifts, has seen a huge surge in interest in 2000s nostalgia aesthetic and nostalgic gifts lately. “We are unsurprised to see a number of Gameboy cards and retro gifts being purchased today,” Qudsia said. And that’s mostly because we, Millennials, are exactly the age of starting to feel nostalgic about the good ole days and want something to remember the times by.

What were the most Wanted Toys in the 2000s?

So, which 2000s nostalgia toys are we talking about, exactly? Well, you probably remember Furby, a chatty furry ball that became a must-have for children all over the world. In 1998, Furby released its first model consisting of 48 colors and 22 special editions. The same year, a whopping 1.8 million Furbies were sold, and the toy was translated into 24 different languages.

Furby paved the way for other robotic toys of the 2000s that became incredibly popular. Like, the famous Teksta the Robotic Puppy. This little doggo started a huge craze in the early 2000s when kids realized they could literally fulfill their dream of having a pet, minus all the hassle. Parents were also excited with the idea, so over 7 million robotic puppies were sold in the first year. As a result, the Robotic Puppy became one of the most popular birthday gifts of the new century.

Tamagotchi, a virtual pet, is basically a symbol of the 2000s nostalgia. After its launch in 2005, children would carry it everywhere they went, attaching it to their belts and backpacks, in order to be always ready to take care of their pet whenever it needed them. Feeding, training, and playing were part of the journey of raising a Tamagotchi, but in turn, it would grow and… not much else! Yet, many millennials still remember it with great nostalgia.

If you want to delve on the past for a little while longer, check out further submissions on our list. Besides serving well for a walk down memory lane, all of these items are a great inspiration for a nostalgia 2000s-themed party if you were planning on staging one!

In 4th grade, my teacher had those wooden ones with the metal edge but it was super easy to pop out the metal piece and we would always look for the rulers with the pieces still in so we could take em out and play with them. I realize now how that was disrespectful to the teacher’s materials, but we were just kids

As a 10th grade science teacher, I couldn't pass out the rulers until the last minute! If I didn't I'd have a class full of "spinners", kids never grow up (I'd catch myself "spinning" while the kids were working).

I remember in 3rd grade being out in the rain scrubbing the tires with a brush. Every class had to work on part of the playground because the school "wanted all of us to be a part of it". My guess is it would cost them less if we did some of the work and it was free child labor. No way that crap would fly today.

I had authentic U.S. Navy bell bottom trousers. My father served 25 years in the Navy and was able to purchase them from the uniform shop at the Navy Exchange on base. I felt so cool wearing authentic sailor's trousers!

Nothing wrong with them. They won't get wet or dirty if you're wise enough to adjust the height right. They are way better than those skinny jeans that the manifucturers forget many people have feet.

I hate these so god damn much. I started doing art club since it’s my first year of highschool. One of the projects were five bracelets for 1 hour (we give them to students at an art gallery “ to share art with the community.” HOWEVER. So far I have made one one okay looking bracelet and it is the diagonal stripes looking one, the simpler one than this, and I am struggling. So even though she upped it to 2 hours for five since a whole lot of other people gave up too, I’ve decided I’ll just paint rocks. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

May sound really bitchy, but this reminds me of getting the first linkin album from my now brother in law, despised them, popped it in the bin. I was maybe 13, music was my everything. One of my favourite singers, Mr. Cornell ended his own life, as did Chester, his kids godfather. Made me think about time wasted on hating things that don't apply to me, a waste of energy, and an immature view on human life

Here most people used them when walking in shallow water, to avoid slipping on rocks or injuring one's feet : when picking up shellfish or shrimps, when canoeing, etc.

I was so proud of the fact that I'd been able to buy an iPod back in 2008. Long story short: I'd left my abusive marriage in 2006 after 7 years together and was able to go back to university and finish my degree. My ex had made me drop out of university because, and I quote, "women don't need an education to have babies". After finishing my degree, I got my dream job as a microbiology lab tech and was making more than enough money to support my then two year old son and myself. I was so happy that I could afford the nice iPod! I wish I knew what happened to it. I reckon it got lost during one of our many moves 😞 we moved house several times after the divorce because my ex was stalking us.

I still use my old iPod. It sits on a speaker with the old apple connection and it still has most of the music I like to listen to. Sometimes I fire it up, choose an album and listen to it, in order. Yes, I know I can do that by streaming, but my iPod has digitized copies of my own CD (and a coupe of vinyl's). It's the closest I can get to the way I used to listen to music (at least until I fix my turntable and find a spot for it). Some albums were meant to be listened to in sequence.

Miniclip died when they pulled its animator. No point going to Miniclip if you can't watch any Boiledsprout. This is when Notdoppler and A10 became the kings of second-rate gaming websites. Kizi and Begamer were pretty cool too. Anyone remember that one game site which had this builder mascot and used the ant march (eh-eh-eh-eh-eh) sound effect on the title?

I just spray painted a lunchbox using cutouts in a kinda similar pattern for a friend'S daughter and fellow vegetarian a week ago. I think she likes how it looks ... it will wear off eventually, and then, she'll get a free repaint, slightly different ... because I have too much lunchboes - forgot at home when off to work, and one week buying breadrools with stuff inbetween is cheaper than buying equipment to make them myself...

They were recalled because some kids ate a bunch and the magnets connected in their intestines and clogged everything up. Not Geomag, but Magnetix, which were a cheaper knockoff. At least one toddler died, but it happened hundreds of times before the recall.

Seriously, I wish publishers didn't think we Americans are completely stupid. Or at least thought we could learn something from just not changing words, because they are different in the US. There was no reason to rewrite them in American English.

Didn't the fact that the film refers to it as the Philosophers stone all the way through either 1] confuse the Americans or 2] show how little credit American business gives their customers .... Mind you, in UK we had the whole 'Top Cat' / 'Boss Cat' debacle !

When I was a senior in college to become an English teacher, we had a Children's Literature course. We had 8 books we had to read and one of them was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Now, at that time nobody knew HP, so we were all like, 'A book about a sorcerer's apprentice? Come ON! Nobody has time for that!' And then one of my classmates read it and was, 'People, this book is actually really good!' Still amuses me to think how scathing we were.

We still have and use ours but the internet isn't reliable on it. Spent 2 years with low resolution until I found the HDMI hook up. But now there's green pixels separating shadows and light in high resolution videos.

In some ways, CRT is still superior to the flat screens we have now, but a 65 inch CRT would be really power hungry and you'd need a team of people to move it.

Is this the US version of Bravo (girl)? Probably not. At least I cannot imagine an US Teen magazine having 2 whole pages of one naked teen girl and one naked teen boy standing straight. Very sterile pictures, not in any way „sexy“. It was educational and to promote body positivity. In every issue were new people. I think the important bits were labled too. Yes our culture is way more open.

I found the book in my home the other day, apparently it was a gift but no one had read it. So I decided to try it out before donating. After many chapters I must say it's a bit boring, lots of details about what the main character had for breakfast and what the dresses her friends bought looked like. Is this just a technique to fill up pages? Anyway I can't seem to find the vampire remotely attractive unless I imagine he looks like some former crush. And then it's still a stretch. The part when he explains the advantages of celibacy (he could crush her if he's not careful) sounds like he's just trying to impress her. So my advice: just go and read Dracula instead.

A friend of mine asked me to go to this movie with her. I did expect something along the line of "Interview with a vampire". I got sparkling emo-kids in the forest. I think I was too old to watch it. But sure - it's a movie and if someone likes it, why not. (as long as they don't think breaking into someone's bedroom and staring at them all night is a sign of epic love, of course ;-) )
