50 Nostalgic Things From The 2000s

Today they are, but in the 80s and 90s, during the pre-led, pre-lcd, pre--plasma screen days of old CRT screens, they were literal screen savers. The image on the screen was literally painted on leaded glass by an electron gun. If it stayed on the same image too long, the painting and repainting could literally burn a shadow of the image onto the leaded glass like a photo and your screen would be ruined. I've seen screens with a permanent shadow of an image, and I've seen old TVs with a permanent test pattern (put on old TV stations after they shut down for the night) burned on the screen by people who fell asleep watching tv at night.

That's what they've evolved into.

Entertainment and literal screen saving. Made to prevent images from burning into the screen from being on the screen too long

Sitting by the radio with your finger hovering over the record button, trying not to miss the beginning of the song but also trying not to get the radio presenters' voices in there . Truly an art!

Don't forget to have a pencil to roll those tapes that decide to spill their guts

As young as he is, even my 18 year old son thinks cassettes are the superior audio experience and I heartily agree with him.

As someone who grew up with tapes, nahhhhh, thanks goodness for audio files technology. ♡

i still own those tapes but I cannot find my ghetto blaster to play them, its in a box somewhere.

They used to have them in the UK too. Used to love them. I'm literally looking at a book now I bought in one when I was around 6 or 7 (41 now)

I'm in Canada and we had 'em. (I was in grade school late '80s to mid '90s). I was a big reader as a kid and it was very exciting.

I had them at my (Canadian) elementary school! Every kid in the school looked forward to this day.

No, far from it. We had them in the UK and were discounted too and helped fill my book shelves.

We have annual book fairs, in outer spaces in Greece. And they are very nice.

We had these at Primary School in London in the 90s/early 00s

We had them in Canada as well. We would get the catalogue earlier, and spend days deciding what we were allowed to buy. It was like a second Christmas : )
