When I was at Primary School, in the UK, in the 1960s, we used to sing a song 'Pick a bale of cotton, pick a bale a day.' I hope it's long gone, it makes me cringe to recall it.
His hands would have been so sore as well poor little people. Child labour was always appalling. Still exists in many countries in lieu of childhood and education.
Notice that this cotton picker is Caucasian, which has hardly ever been talked about. Poor is poor.
Being white is why he was paid to do this. Horrible conditions and ridiculously low wages, for sure, horrifying poverty, yes. To look at white privilege, you would need to compare equally poor people from different ethinicities, in the same local, time, context, and see how opportunities/treatment differ for them. And how were poor caucasians not talked about? They were the topic of lots of news, photographs and books such as The Vines of Wrath.

Is it so difficult for you to consider that life and trauma do not exist in exclusive absolutes? Eg POC were much more likely to be subjected to these harsh conditions than white people? Therefore the consequences of it may be more widespread among POC. And does that change or have any bearing on the suffering that this little kid experienced? Of course not. He would have also been damaged by it. Trying to polarise an argument instead of understanding the history is lazy and doesn't help to heal the situation.

I always love to see those. I have a lot of them, people that I knew when I was a kid, people who died before I was born but that I knew from the stories I was told. All those people were real, each important in their own way. They were nice, or not, or anywhere in between. They all lived, laughed, cried, loved, went through sh*tty or happy times. They existed, and all of them took à part, however small, in shaping the world as we now know it.
These are great! I have a whole bunch of similar photos. My parents were born in 1928 and only had me 21 years later, so I have a weird perspective on things - from people more than a generation older than me! (My mom's sister, born 1930, is still alive and kicking.)

I have a picture of me early 1970's as a toddler in the family frame tent somewhere camped in Wales, UK. That tent gaves us some great affordable holidays. Had to laugh the other day as I saw a festival offering expensive glamping option were they had repurposed old frame tents similar to ours. Mind 50 plus years ago Dad had to put it up first, the beds had to be inflated then made up and there wasn't carpet with a sheep skin on it. Mind we weren't paying daft money for the privilege.
