Imagine what a scandal this was back then! It's amazing how far we've come, and yet we still have a lot of remaining bigotries to expunge.

When I was at Primary School, in the UK, in the 1960s, we used to sing a song 'Pick a bale of cotton, pick a bale a day.' I hope it's long gone, it makes me cringe to recall it.

Being white is why he was paid to do this. Horrible conditions and ridiculously low wages, for sure, horrifying poverty, yes. To look at white privilege, you would need to compare equally poor people from different ethinicities, in the same local, time, context, and see how opportunities/treatment differ for them. And how were poor caucasians not talked about? They were the topic of lots of news, photographs and books such as The Vines of Wrath.

From certain republicans " but he is out in the fresh air and sunshine, helping to feed his family, since mama and papa only earn minimum wage. and their combined incomes wont pay the rent. It could be worse - he could be working in a meat packing plant ... sorry he has to wait 5 more years for that ( for now)."

Is it so difficult for you to consider that life and trauma do not exist in exclusive absolutes? Eg POC were much more likely to be subjected to these harsh conditions than white people? Therefore the consequences of it may be more widespread among POC. And does that change or have any bearing on the suffering that this little kid experienced? Of course not. He would have also been damaged by it. Trying to polarise an argument instead of understanding the history is lazy and doesn't help to heal the situation.

Today's child labor is the children of illegal immigrants. Those kids are working in mat/poultry packing plants in the midwest and south. Biden is responsible for all such abuses.
