This. It looks like every child's doll I have seen photos of from 18th century new Canadian families who made literally everything themselves. There was no store bought back then for a poor family literally living in a tent while they built themselves a house in a Canadian winter. This, like those, appears to be hand sewn using blanket stitches (sewers forgive my ignorance if that is not the correct stitch) and made from the clothes that no longer fit just like they would have been. Those kids never turned to their parents and said thanks mom but if it isn't aesthetically pleasing I'm not into it, they said holy cow a toy made with love by my mom who had to stay up late and sew it by hand instead of sleeping, which this parent also likely had to do. I say you are channeling thousands of years of doing your best for your children with or without the training, skills and experience.

I don't know about sweet but it's definitely worse they'll be carrying it around for years. It looks creepy now, can you imagine how creepy this is going to look when it's been played with and it's stained.. features are starting to rub off.. maybe an eye is missing. Like.. the more "worn" this doll looks the worse it's going to get.
