There are always people who think they deserve more than everybody else. They constantly ask for a discount, try to gorge on more freebies than they can carry, never tip, and always try to get things for free. And there’s a specially dedicated place for them called “Choosing Beggars,” a 2.2M-strong subreddit that collects the most hilariously embarrassing cases.

And you may think that Thanksgiving, a national holiday which essentially encapsulates the word and the meaning giving, would stop them. Well, not really. Apparently, the festivity may as well serve as a perfect opportunity to have all its perks without putting in all the effort or losing a dime.

So this time we collected some of the most crazy examples of beggars in action: Thanksgiving edition. After you’re done, be sure to check out our previous posts with people whose ego and entitlement is too big for this tiny world here, here and here.

Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia

Invite Us To Your Thanksgiving! But Only If You Have These Things And We Will Only Bring Dessert. Tia

okimadeone Report

This Thanksgiving may have been the most expensive one for the host so far. How come? Well, it turns out that agricultural economists, farmers and grocery executives predicted that nearly every component of the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, from the disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan to the coffee and pie, come at a higher price this year.

Interestingly, last year, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 was the lowest it had been since 2010, the American Farm Bureau reported. So what on earth has happened? Turns out that last year, during the height of the pandemic, everyone was laying low with celebrations, and very few people were buying groceries for big gatherings. Grocery sellers were keeping the prices of the Thanksgiving staple—turkey—pretty low to attract the shoppers.

But after the global vaccination, the world has opened up and big gatherings resumed as if they had never stopped. So did the demand for turkey and other foods, whose prices have been soaring rapidly this past year.

The New York Times suggests that we shouldn’t look for a single culprit to explain the phenomenon. According to them, the nation’s food supply has been battered by a knotted supply chain, high transportation expenses, labor shortages, trade policies and bad weather. Inflation is at play, too.

I don't see a problem with this? If she's no takers, then no one with $15 is interested. But I bet there are people that can swing for that amount that can't or don't want to cook their own dinner. She's not expecting homeless people to buy it.

Ya' know, that's a good point. I must admit, I felt a slight twinge of that "majority mob mentality/social outrage" when I started reading it, but after reading your comment, I agreed with you, she's really not doing anything wrong. She wasn't forcing anyone to buy anything, just advertising a service, which for all we know, she'd already been doing on a smaller basis 🤷‍♀️🤔🤷‍♀️

This is actually a whole business model in some cities - it's an everyday thing. It gets buyers quality home-cooked food they collect on their way home from work, and sellers cook twice what their pwn family need, portion it up, and cover their grocery bill. There's an app, you list the menu plan, and the number of servings available, and they're presold before you start cooking, so no wastage.

That's exactly the point. The choosy beggars are the complainers, not the cook. If I could get a plate of this quality, and not have to put up with some of the family crap I've seen in my far back past ( I don't put up with it now), it would be would this and a $15 tip, plus a socially distanced air kiss, plus a God Bless!

As a trucker I really appreciate the people who are open on Thanksgiving. Black Bear Diner had a pretty good turkey dinner with fixing and the server's were so kind that I had to hold back tears. Some of us don't get to be home or have the energy to cook after driving 600 miles 7 days in a row. I paid $24 with tax plus left a $20 tip. Nothing wrong with her doing that as well.

This isn't too bad. Many people can afford the $15 a plate, but not the $150+ to purchase all the ingredients and condiments. Also, not everyone has the physical ability or knowledge to prepare that bounty. She makes a small profit, several people get a traditional meal for a damn good price . . . Win /

So what's the problem? This could be perfect for a single person or a couple. They get a full on Thanksgiving dish (delivered!) without have to cook the whole meal.

If you don't like that it's not free, then don't order and STFU. There are people without families, like me, who would very much enjoy a home cooked Thanksgiving meal for a reasonable price that I would not get to have otherwise. There is nothing wrong with this at all. There are a bunch of restaurants in my city who sell thanksgiving dinners to people. Do you also think those should be free?

My friend does that all the time, sell meals. Mostly barbecue. I would definitely have considered purchasing a meal from this woman. Such a pity people hate on her trying to make some extra money. Who knows what she does with the extra meals, she may give them away.

I wish someone around here would offer such a service. I live alone, don't drive, don't feel like going anywhere on Thanksgiving anyway, and it's a pain to have to cook all that stuff just for one person. Too many leftovers. If someone around here were selling single portion Thanksgiving meals for $15 and delivering, I'd give them $20, the extra $5 being a tip, maybe to help pay for their gas. I see no issue with anyone who wants to make a few bucks, if they are offering a product/service that people would be willing to pay for.

I actually love this idea she's doing. So many single people don't have the means or funds to cook a full turkey & fixings so a homemade plate all fixed up is perfect.

I have a meal prep business. I offer plates like these for holidays. Most of my clients are single or older and have no reason to cook full meals. I also make full meals for one family. This year I was able to also provide three huge bags of food for this same family thanks to my neighbor and the selling of the meals I sell, so nanny nanny boo boo to these people. And "Less unfortunate"? Those would be the fortunate people. Lol

My mum will be alone for Xmas this year as I'm working Xmas day so I asked on a local facebook page if there was any businesses delivering meals the day before. We were expecting to pay for it, we were not expecting a free meal. However a local pub has offered a free meal to be delivered, hot on xmas day itself. We are more than honoured that someone has gone out of their way to offer to do this. I offered payment but it was refused. So we will be buying a box of chocolates at the very least for the person delivering the meal to mum.

Numbers also speak for themselves. The Consumer Price Index for food was up 4.6 percent from a year ago in September, while the prices for meat, poultry, fish and eggs soared a whopping 10.5 percent. For those wondering what’s up with the sky-high turkey prices, it may have to do with the fact that the price of corn, which most commercial turkeys feed on, more than doubled in some parts of the country from July 2020 to July 2021.

The Department of Agriculture turkey report released on Friday has also stated that whole frozen birds already cost 25 cents/pound more than they did a year ago. With much bigger holiday celebrations than last year, the demand for festive foods is likely not going anywhere, so there’s a slim chance you’ll get your hands on a turkey bargain.
