OK, folks, you might want to keep your GPS on while scrolling through this one because we're heading into the land of 'Terrible Maps.'

It's a bumpy ride, full of wrong coordinates and not-very-helpful legends, however, the unexpected twists and turns are what make it so memorable.

This fun online project, dedicated to geographically incorrect entertainment, features such gems as 'The World According To Fish' and 'What Pedestrian [Signs] Look Like Across Europe.'

Even though its content might not get you from point A to point B, the pictures can, in fact, teach you something and put a smile on your face.

This map is really good, if you know anything about survey, cartography, geodetic datums, seamanship etc. Very handy for understanding our oceans and how they interact. Just because you dont understand it, don't project that lack of understanding to the map.

Sure, silly maps can be really amusing, but with the growing importance of issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation, spatial epidemiology, and inequalities, you could say that geography has become one of the most relevant subjects you can study.

The UK's Royal Geographical Society, for example, is certain that geography helps us to explore and understand space and place, recognizing the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes, and environments across the world, and exploring the links between them.

aww you think that is the most odd name in New York? (not using any Native American based names that Europeans butchered the pronunciation of like Ronkonkoma) we have Butternut, Big Flats, Calcium, Never Sink (I have been to Never Sink, there is a reservoir there also called Never Sink), Triangle, Throop, Friendship, Ausable Chasm, Cumminsville, Feura Bush, Sugarbush, etc. And of course we have Coxsackie, the town the scientific name for Foot in Mouth disease is named after. While a native american name, today the name has a very different meaning.

People love to dump on the makeup of the Senate and say it was created by slave owners, which is only partially true. The original plan was for a unicameral legislature akin to the one under the Articles of Confederation, just with more representatives per state (the Virginia Plan). This would have benefited states like New York and Virginia at the time. The smaller states wanted the to only be one representative for each state (the New Jersey Plan). Virginia wanted to count every single inhabitant to determine representation under their plan, whether they could vote or even were citizens. This led to a series of compromises, most notably the Connecticut Compromise. The legislature would be bicameral. The House of Representatives would represent the people and be based on population. The Senate would have two from each state and represent the states.

Senators were never supposed to represent the people but their states, like the old confederation Congress. If not for ambiguities in filling vacancies it would probably still be up to state legislatures to fill Senate seats, but after some states went without Senate representation for several years, it was decided to pass the 17th amendment to allow for direct election of senators.

The Senate is not supposed to represent a population, it represents the States. Two from each state. The House of Representatives is supposed to represent the population. Of course, the only ones who are actually represented are the wealthy elites.

This is true ... but it was meant to balance the House of Representatives, and ensure that politicians didn't cater to the needs of ONLY those in major population centers.

For all the people talking about the House of Representatives: you do know it's useless without the Senate's agreement, right? And even the House is not actually proportional to population. This whole system is effed up.

that's kinda the point though... to give every state it's equal representation so the high population states can't just steamroll the rest of the country on every issue. also there's a house of representatives too sooo

Grey doesn't have to mean none, it can mean below threshold. This is a population density map with three containers - alot, some, few. There are .14 people per square kilometer in Greenland. If its 1 person per sq km, they don't show up on a map this scale. Even its largest city (Nuuk) doesn't show up with 19608 people in 690 sq km. London is 607 sq km and has 8 million people and its on the same scale. There are 33.2 million people in Siberia but like Greenland, the density is below threshold because there's so much land.
