Mathias Wasik is a street photographer known for capturing the raw energy and small, fleeting moments that define city life. Born in Poland and raised in Germany, he has been photographing urban streets since 2015, turning everyday scenes into powerful stories filled with character and emotion. In this feature, we’ve brought together some of his photographs where animals make an appearance, adding humor, surprise, and charm to the urban landscape.

I think that's a Puli. Their hair grows in dreadlocks naturally. Never seen one shaved though.

I think you may be right. There was an elderly one that had been abandoned by his owners many years ago here. He gravitated to the town center where the shops and restaurants kept him fed and watered. I paid to have him shorn and shaved every year in the runup to summer. Everybody called him "Muhallebi", a kind of bland, rice pudding.

There are breed specific rescues that pull their breed from city shelters to make sure the people that adopt them know what they are getting into and have the right home for them. This gentleman maybe working with one of those rescues or just really loves to adopt this breed. :)

I have had up to 8 rescues at one time, from Dobermans and German Shepherds to Yorkies and Shih Tzus. Everybody had their assigned eating areas and waited there for their meals. Dogs love routine and it was easy.

Yall commenting on his nails. Take a look at the mask and remember Covid was a thing. As the owner of a dog that ABSOLUTELY will not sit still for me to trim her nails, I rely on my groomer to do it with help from other people. It takes two people to do her nails.

Believe me, Shaun Coleman, if that doggo didn’t like wearing that outfit, he wouldn’t be wearing it. Some of my dogs tolerate clothes, some don’t. We only use sweaters and coats for inclement weather but if the dog doesn’t mind I think these outfits are cute.

I am glad to see that someone is considering how hot the ground can get for dogs when walking on concrete/asphalt. If you ever need proof, try taking off your shoes and walk around barefoot when the sun is out and shining bright. Image how the pads on their feet must feel.

Reminds me of when I first moved to The Big City. We were driving down the road in the Bohemian part of town, and I saw someone wearing a snakeskin boa. Nobody else was paying any attention, which was weird, but not as weird as when said boa TURNED ITS HEAD TO LOOK AT ME! That's when I knew Big City was NOTHING like Small Town I originally came from.

oh, the chicken is wearing a little chicken harness. That's great. My neighbors late chickens often came visiting us on our porch. I loved it and they loved to cuddle. His new ones are shy and have to stay in the enclosure, because you cannot pick them up easily.

Many of these were great but some of them looked like it was someone trying to look "edgy" by having an animal that doesn't fit into the environment. While people like to frame themselves as "look at me I'm unusual" by having an unusual animal, please make sure that the animal is comfortable in the environment and is treated as a creature that deserves to be comfortable and safe. Taking a cat or a chicken out where there are a lot of dogs isn't always what is best for the animal.
