It amazed me to hear people stating it was "just (x)." Just a protest. Just peaceful. Like did you watch the same footage everyone else did?? how did you get peaceful protest out of that? They were calling for the hanging of the VP! We all saw and heard that! Boggles the mind.

Living in the US and watching it on TV, it made me have second hand embarrassment. Just could not believe how uncivilized...

The people are idiots. But it is true that a large amount of idiots together is downright dangerous…. This is a perfect example. If enough of them band together there is no telling what they’ll think is “okay” to do.

Totally disagree. Examples: carry a few reusable totes with you instead of putting purchases in plastic bags every single time; use washable cloths instead of napkins and paper towels; use one steel thermos for your entire life instead of buying and rebuying drinks in plastic bottles; use compostable garbage bags, reusable silicon ziploc bags, etc. There are many small lifestyle changes that are up to each of us. It's not just on manufacturers.

Yes, but the consumer also has to support the businesses that offer alternative packaging. Companies that have no incentive to change will not, especially if it's not profitable. Companies care about money, not sustainability.

And it is primarily only about a dozen corporations responsible for most of the pollution and global warming. And our Republican leadership continues to give them tax breaks. Trump even virtually shut down the EPA in an effort to save corporations even more money by rolling back the clean air act.

Sorry, it has to start with consumers. Your attitude passes the buck to organizations who have proven that the couldn't care LESS about the environment.

you have options in life, what you are saying takes away all the individuals responsibility. you can buy things that are more environmental friendly, people are just lazy. and blame the big companies to feel better about themselves.

I used to use grocery store bags for my kitchen garbage - now I BUY them! That’s really helping, isn’t it? I looked into buying paper bags for kitchen garbage but they were 4 or 5 times the cost. Insane.

Correct. And with costs of living rising up its simply either too expensice or impossible to buy stuff without such plastic.
