Not everything in nature is as beautiful or as hilarious as we're mostly used to. It has a dark side, too, and I'll completely understand if this list by Bored Panda forces you to build a pillow-fort in your living room and avoid going outside for a week.

From a mama centipede protecting its babies to a wasp colony building a nest around a discarded doll, these pictures feature some of the scariest things Mother Earth has to offer. Scroll down to test how brave you are, and vote for your favorite entries.

I've seen this on television. There's a species of desert frogs that bury themselves in the mud after it rains. The mud dries, and they stay underground, sometimes for years, until it rains again. They come back to life. Then they have a mating frenzy and bury themselves again. Or something like that...

We had this huge toad in our backyard as kids. We would unbury him and play and then put him back. He was there for years. Weird?

Incredible! We have frogs here in the Sonoran desert (Arizona) which only come out during the summer monsoon storms- and we find dried out husks of frogs once the storms go away... I've never tried to "just add water" but that's certainly a plan this year! I will FREAK OUT if it actually works!

I realize you were astounded at this miracle of nature but I don't think its necessary to be so vulgar about your surprise. Kids read these post too. Its possible to make your point with much more intelligent language and still be acceptable to everyone. Let's put it this way... ..if you dress as though you live in the gutter and you speak as though you live in the gutter in the gutter you will remain.
