One of the most common questions regarding aesthetics is 'what things count as art?' To Adam Hillman (previously here), the answer to this question is as broad as it is narrow. Adam arranges everyday objects into dynamic patterns to subvert their traditional use and redefine them as tools for artistic innovation.
"I grew up fascinated with art history, so it seemed natural to want to create my own art," he told Bored Panda. "Instead of traditional painting and sculpture, I wanted to use materials that reflected the time I live in, which is why I use everyday objects."

Well, after she had to eat them. It's not fine to throw food, you know ;)
Load More Replies...Food is arguably his most common choice. "Unlike more permanent mediums, food is transitory, and can only be preserved through methods such as photography," Adam explained. "Because I use Instagram account as my way of exposing my work to a larger audience, I use food because it is something that is unique to photography because it can only be experienced through reproduction, unlike painting or sculpture which are better experienced in person and can be bought and sold as an object."
"Likewise, unlike mediums designated as high art, food art can be more readily understood and enjoyed by everyone, making it a more democratic option."
Please forgive me for wanting to faceplant straight into this and NOM NOM NOM
OMG...My FAVORITE CANDY! That's a mountain of delish! Anyone else getting hungry?
"As we live in a time dominated by widespread food-based advertising, I think food art is becoming especially relevant. Rather than seeing grocery stores as merely a means of sustenance, it redefines these seemingly utilitarian stores as areas of artistic possibility, making viewers more perceptive to the aesthetic possibilities of everyday things that they would normally take for granted."

I am so impressed with all the art in this article. I love it, it is a feast for the eyes and unusual. I want to know how the flesh of the fruit doesn't go brown though.
Noooo. They mix exposed/cut inside and outside of the square. Kiwi is the cut part inside the square while all others are the skinned part. Ditto with sweet potato and squash in the orange square.
I don't think that's the point they were trying to make. It's the play of colours, darker on the inside and lighter on the outside, not the inside and outside of the fruits and vegetables.
Load More Replies...Get some chopped ham, onion, and bell pepper. Would make a damn fine omelette.

Anyone else NOT notice the tiny spot on that one egg? !!
I hope you invited all of your Friends to drink the coffee after making the photo. Same with all the tasty fruits and sweets in the other pictures.
That's what I've been thinking. I hope they eat all that food after taking those pictures.
Load More Replies...Simply stunning! I'm glad you can't see any cup/mug handles...that reinforces the simplicity.
Spring onions are so good that they make other s**t irrelevant!
I was just about to comment the same! Hersheys is an insult to chocolate

I've made Dum Dum trees, and just found instructions for Dum Dums made into rosebuds. This makes craft #3 I'm gonna try.
No, it's a pastry bread. It's soft and squishy and it comes in chocolate, lemon and vinnilla . It might sound a little weird but once you taste it you'll understand
Load More Replies...Hummm...chocolate or cinnamon? I'll take either one. Yes, even furry bread stimulates my appetite.
so far one with the shallots/green onions is my favorite.
Load More Replies...I thought the same thing! He should have been in the picture :-P
Load More Replies...OK, so when I eat M&M's it take one of each color and put them aside and eat them last. Since I was a wee little tyke.
I dump the whole bag out and sort them in rows by color in descending color. I eat them from fewest color to most in that color. PS, most fun size packs have 17 m&M's in them.
Load More Replies...I want to do this for a party and see which of my guests will mess it up.
Showcasing the lovely colors that nature can make while giving the contrast that can be found on/in the same items- it's weirdly beautiful. And seriously such clean lines.
I never realized so many foods were red on either the inside or the outside.
They forgot to edit out the red on the onion... they are never that red; more purple. And if it is that red, then I'd be apprehensive to eat it.
Yes, he could have been on Bored Panda instead of doing this ...
Load More Replies...Fun Fact: That painting was his view from the mental institution window that he was in.
Load More Replies...I really want to know how they worked with the banana flesh without it turning brown.
A dab of glue to hold them in place, use tweezers, easy peasy.
Load More Replies...My hands are far too shaky to attempt something like this lol
I would have to glue each one down, to avoid bumping the piece and making them scatter.
In any other post I would 100% assume this is a set of images in a collage. The clean lines and spacing that are achieved in these designs is really impressive.
The artist must have the patience of a saint and very steady hands. Then there is getting the photo shoot just right before any material looks "icky". Marvelous.
I thought there was just a frame above the fruit... then I looked closer
When trying to imitate Mondriaan, you should at least respect Mondriaan's dedication for ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. Crooked lines, bad symmetry & bad knife skills, unfortunately in my POV, is certainly no homage towards anything Mondriaan. At least this one has better use of lighting & it does not shows too many stained pieces of fruit (or he finally started to learn how to use lemon juice).
Hey Buddy, at least he tried. If you really hate imperfection so much here's a tip for you; don't look in the mirror. Nobody's perfect.
Load More Replies...<---------dreadfully uninformed. I did not know what these were. Fruit Roll-- Ups ?
Another stunner. I would actually copy, print, frame and hang some of these. They're FUN!
You can order different color M&Ms and even have things printed on them (seen at bridal and baby showers)
Load More Replies...I really like the asymmetry/symmetry of this one and the little surprises like the star in the middle.
I'm starting to think this person much work in a candy shop. How else would you be able to get all of these different colors and varieties?
I swear I'll never again be satisfied with my ability to fry an egg. Damn.
Monika Soffronow: Me either! I'm feeling quite inadequate at the moment.
Load More Replies...I'd cheat and throw half a canned apricot on there. From a distance it would be impressive.

Now you're halving...HALVING cereal pieces? Little cereal pieces? Seriously? Gold star for Adam the artist.
These all get eaten at some point, right? I hope all this great produce doesn't go to waste!
It wouldn't be right to throw away your own artwork, so I'm guessing it's eaten.
Load More Replies...Amazing when the blank spaces become as important to the artwork as the filled in areas.
The most creative & unique use of food for excellent photographs!!!
Round or square, soft chocolate or hard metal, monochrome brown or multicoloured? My brain answers: yes. (Please, someone help me, quick!) :-)
The struggle of finding the sweet setting on the toaster (all shades were between 4 and 4 1/4).
Any idea if this is an actual cookie type with the multiple flavored filling? Asking for a friend...
My guess is they are assorted flavors of Oreo. filling carefully scraped off and then cut into shapes for the pattern.
Load More Replies...That has GOT to be casting resin. No other way... (It sets up white) See the cup on the bottom right, the little anomaly in the 'milk'?
In my mind, I walked up the stairs like climbing an ancient Maya temple.
"Bob! You had ONE job... ONE. All you had to do was sit up. Seriously."
Load More Replies...I wonder why the egg yokes are so small in the middle. Tiny eggs, or replaced by something the same colour as yoke???
It wouldn't last long, for one reason or another...
Load More Replies...You can order bags of special colors from them. Mostly for weddings and baby showers.
Load More Replies...I see this could have been much better with good lighting :-(
Load More Replies...ah, here's the original spiral stack. this is what was used to make #5, only mirrored!
i know it;s supposed to be calming and satisfying, but i find each picture intensely disturbing. anyone else?
Jep me, al that wasted of food makes me angry, knowing that there are lots of people who has nothing to eat at all
Load More Replies...OK, these might be a little better than pasta shapes glued to cardboard and spray painted gold. Not saying I ever did that.
Exactly HOW is this satisfying? Here is the definition of satisfy: verb (used with object), sat·is·fied, sat·is·fy·ing. to fulfill the desires, expectations, needs, or demands of (a person, the mind, etc.); give full contentment to: The hearty meal satisfied him. to put an end to (a desire, want, need, etc.) by sufficient or ample provision: The hearty meal satisfied his hunger. to give assurance to; convince: to satisfy oneself by investigation. to answer sufficiently, as an objection. to solve or dispel, as a doubt. to discharge fully (a debt, obligation, etc.). to make reparation to or for: to satisfy an offended person; to satisfy a wrong. to pay (a creditor). Mathematics. to fulfill the requirements or conditions of: to satisfy a theorem. (of a value of an unknown) to change (an equation) into an identity when substituted for the unknown: x = 2 satisfies 3x = 6.
It satisfied my desire for pleasant, symmetrical photos. There.
Load More Replies...Eyegasm? That's really a reach BP. I look at these and see an irritating waste of food and time.
How do you know it's a waste of food? Perhaps it was all eaten after taking a photo, and as for the waste of time, that's just your (misguided) opinion. I guess you think that making music is also a waste of time.
Load More Replies...Is anyone else bothered by the word eyegasm (it might change later but it's in the title right now)? I know it fits here but still... Anyway, beautiful pictures. I find them very satisfying to look at. The dedication is awe-inspiring. Truly a perfectionist. I hope the food used for the pictures was eaten. And now I'm hungry
I understand the complaints about waste of food, but I also see people enjoying the time and skill taken, and they're being downvoted. I'll probably get buried in the downvotes too, but I feel like I can enjoy the effort and skill in these, as well as hope that the food went to good use. I can understand wastes of food, but this is art placed on the internet for people to enjoy. I feel like we should be allowed to appreciate the talent without being smothered in downvotes. Thanks!
I am so sorry for saying this, but all I see are lots of crooked lines, loads of stained fruit (guess he doesn't know about the use of lemon juice?), bad knife skills, lots of abysmal use of lighting, messy, choppy, symmetry is sometimes non existent. The whole point of doing this kind of symmetrical color art, like a true mandala = pure PERFECTION. That is including perfect planning to keep your food looking fresh for THE perfect photo (instead of leaving your food for hours on end laying around so it gets stained & looks dry). Truly wanted to like this, but I guess I am spoiled by all the great Japanese Artists here on BP.
