Animals, just like humans, need a second chance. Whether they have been lost, abandoned, or given up, the critters people meet at shelters are all unwanted and helpless. Until we adopt them.
You can't make many choices that feel as rewarding as saving a life. And it's not just you who's reaping the benefits of finding a new best friend. Rescuing a pet also frees up shelter space so more animals can get the care they need, and, most importantly, someone very miserable becomes very, very, very happy.
Just like in February and January, Bored Panda has compiled a list of pictures that feature newly adopted animals of the month. From kitties and pups to bunnies and horses, the smiles on these rescue boys and girls definitely prove they couldn't be happier they've finally found their forever homes.

Adopted Coco The Ginger And Came Back A Week Later To Get Her Brother Tux As We Couldn't Bare To Leave Him Behind. They Are The Best Of Friends!
Soooo sweet. We did the same thing. We adopted 1 cat and went back that night to get his brother. Nothing better knowing they have each other.
I adopted a little girl and when we went to pick her up, her sister had been brought back, so we took her home too... Twins2-5e8...69742f.jpg
"By adopting an animal in need – no matter the species, breed, or size – you may be saving that animal’s life as well as freeing up valuable shelter space and resources for other animals in need," Kelly DiCicco, Manager, Adoptions Promotions at the ASPCA Adoption Center told Bored Panda. "A huge benefit of adopting animals from a shelter is that shelter staff know the animals well and can provide detailed information about an animal’s history, medical needs, behavior, and temperament. They also consider a potential adopter’s lifestyle, home environment, and the animal’s potential compatibility with children and other animals in the home in order to make matches that are a good fit."
About 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, roughly 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. The good news is that according to ASPCA estimates, the number of dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 7.2 million in 2011. If you want to contribute to lowering these numbers and rescue an animal, you can find general adoption tips or a local shelter in your area at ASPCA.
Wife Wanted A Cat. I Said No, So We Compromised And Got A One Eyed Cat
DiCicco encourages those who are seriously interested in taking home a new pet to keep an open mind and heart when visiting a shelter or rescue as they may walk out with a pet they’d never considered before, like a senior animal or even those of a different breed, size or species. "When it comes to choosing which pet to adopt, prospective adopters should feel comfortable asking plenty of questions and lean on shelter staff for guidance, as every shelter has a unique population of animals and no one knows them like the people who work with them every day," Kelly said. "Plus, shelter staff have expertise in making successful matches and can help prospective adopters decide whether an animal is a good personality and lifestyle fit. They also consider each animal’s background and energy level, as well as how the animal might get along with other people and pets in the home."

Animal torture should have the same penalty as child molestation or rape.
There is a special kind of Hell for people who treat animals like this.
Sadly I don't believe in any form of afterlife so I'm hoping they'll experience hell on earth and as early as possible.
Load More Replies...People who torture animals should be given the same treatment they gave to the animals
How awful, why would anyone do that? I'm glad he's in a forever home now
However, the coronavirus pandemic that is currently ravaging our world is also putting an immense strain on shelters all over the US. "Because this is an unprecedented and ever-changing situation, each shelter is facing unique challenges specific to its communities," DiCicco explained. "Many shelters are facing reduced staff and volunteer support, which is putting animals in desperate need of temporary or permanent sheltering outside the four walls of typical adoption centers and shelters."
For example, Sarah Bhimani, a spokesperson for Animal Humane Society, told Bored Panda that the organization has made the difficult decision to temporarily close all four of their shelters to the public through May 2 and only provide limited services, such as accepting surrendered/stray animals, providing limited veterinary services, and continuing humane investigations. "As our shelters were scheduled to close, we saw an outpouring of support from our community and experienced some record days of adoptions. The majority of remaining animals are being cared for by foster volunteers until the shelters reopen, and a small group of staff are caring for animals that must stay at the shelter for medical or behavioral reasons."
Lots Of Strange Things Happening In The World Lately. Adopted This Rescue Kitty Today To Help Make Both Our Lives Better
Coronavirus is actually a perfect time to adopt a cat or a dog, because you'll be at home a lot and the pet will have plenty of time to get used to you and the home before you go to work again!
It's also a great time to try fostering (kittens, puppies, etc) if you can't adopt.
Load More Replies...Kitty looks like she can't believe it's true. It's true kitty, you've got a new dad!
"I will destroy your curtains, steal your socks, murder your potted plants and you'll love me for it."
But with everything going on in the world right now, Bhimani reassured that animals in need are not forgotten. "We’re still here to help the most vulnerable animals in our community, and we encourage others to get involved too at animalhumanesociety.org"
One of the ways people can help during these difficult times is fostering. "[It] can give you the opportunity to single-handedly change an animal’s life for the better and is a rewarding experience for those who choose to become caregivers," DiCicco said. "There’s no place like a loving home to get a dog or cat used to the sights, sounds, and experiences that will set them up for a successful future adoption."
I Didn’t Know Cats Could Have Such A Wide Range Of Emotion Until I Adopted Leonardo Dicatprio
Bottom row, third across, is priceless. Says it all, really! "Give me Strength!"
He is magnificent. I don't think I've ever seen a cat convey so many different types of emotions. He's so expressive. I also noticed the scarab looking marking on his forehead and the glowing shade of green that his eyes are, which makes me wonder if he's an Egyptian Mau, as they are known to be more vocal and expressive. I have a 3yr old male Egyptian Mau myself, he's very vocal and smart, but still a little backwards as he was a rescue and showed signs of abuse and it has taken him longer to be as all trusting, but has been very much worth it. Egyptian Mau's are special cats.
Leo has way wider range than his human namesake...(and I actually like Leo DiCaprio).
Shelter Dog Cannot Contain Her Excitement About Getting Adopted
So that's what they mean by jumping out of your skin excitement. Happy for the dog and family.
From their expressions, the boy seems to possess an equal level of excitement/disbelief that the adoption is happening! <3
This one made my heart skip with joy- especially since I recently lost my dear best friend, Chaz, the yellow lab. Wishing this family much joy with their new addition
So sorry for your loss. Been there myself and it hurts. They are worth it though, so very much.

My GF Wanted To Adopt A Kitten, I Said Not Now. As Compromise Here's The Kitten
You're done. You now have a cat that will be sleeping with you, sitting with you and ignoring her. Those darn three ways that sounded fun at the time.
i bet kitten chose you as his/her hooman and totally ignores your girlfriend :D
I'd be pissed, LOL, I wish I was kidding! Animals tend to love me, even feral kitties have given me the time of day so my feels would be devastated if I wasn't their favorite human.
Load More Replies...As a compromise...LOL!!!! BUT...how could you not fall in love with that lil bundle of love & claws? He's (I think) adorable to the maxx, I wanna reach thru the screen and give him some ear skritches, such a QT!!
** On a side note, that is a beautiful cat! The long hair can get tangled at times, a lot of shedding, but that fur is probably silky soft, & most definitely worth it.
My Grandmother (87) With Her Newly Adopted Senior Peanut (14) On Their Way Home From Foster Care Today
I was thinking the exact same thing, either it's genetics or she's just doing something right.
Load More Replies...I really feel for the elderly and disabled during this time. It is hard enough that they need to isolate without not being able to see their family either due to the virus. Whilst adopting may not be an option for many, fostering is another alternative. It helps animals have that interaction and the vulnerable would likely feel less lonely/isolated.
Well, I think we know which 'Foxxy' is the C**t dear. NOT the original one but the sad, sad troll.

Just Adopted This Handsome Boy Yesterday
What a beautiful coat this good boi has. Now you just need an eye patch and a pirate name for him. Maybe "Yaaaar!"
There's more true emotion in that one eye than you see in a lot of humans' 2 eyes 😍
He is beautiful. And such a bright and aware look in his eyes, even if he still looking a tad sceptical.
He is just as handsome as he would be if he wasn't missing an eye.
I Think I Adopted A Vampire
You got fangs!!!! Always a happy kitty when you get fanged!!! They are beautiful !
I Adopted 2 Kittens Last Week. After Many Days Of Not Seeing Them, I Woke Up To This Today
A lot of times, cats wander off for a long time, but they always return. Who knows where they go?
What an adoring look in her eyes. I believe she’s rather ‘taken’ with you!
Good Morning! I’m just checking you out for my sibling—-running reconnaissance, so to speak—-just to make sure you pass muster. If you do, we’ll meet you exactly here tonight and every night after that. Sound like a deal?
Can’t Have Kids, So I Adopted
Bless you!! Fids (furry or feathered kids) are still kids, just not in human form. They are still as important and meaningful to our lives and bring so much joy and love! Much love to you and your new baby!
My husband and I married too late in life to be able to have children. We found that having animals is like having toddlers—-who may eventually slow down but never really grow up.
My life is much richer for having pets that love you always, never need diapers changed, don't cost you $200,000 for college tuition, and you never have to worry about them until the day you die.

Then again, I plan to be a fierce and energetic eighty-something who passes 100 easily, and slides into 110—maybe even 120 (genetics + medical science + taking good care of myself my whole life might make that possible)—-still mentally sharp as a tack and physically doing my thing. Then just pass on peacefully in my sleep one night.
Found Him On A Beach In Russia. Brought Him Back Home To The States. He Adopted Me
3 Years Ago I Adopted This Old Guy. Today He’s 14 And Doing Better Than Ever!
I'm so happy to see people adopt elderly pets! No pet deserves to die of old age in the shelter
I adopted a senior a few years ago who had the heart of a lion. While we were walking one day, a big pitbull ran from a yard, unfenced of course, and was coming for me. I mistakenly thought it was going after my dog but was actually coming for me. Just as it got there, my guy, even as a senior turned on it & bit it on the a*s & sent it whining back to its yard. My guy was a mixed Lab & Irish Setter. Unfortunately, about 6 months later he passed away from liver cancer. When I saw him at the shelter, I wasn't sure I wanted a senior so I left him there to think about it. As I was leaving, I saw him lying on the ground back in his spot looking out into a field & it broke my heart to think he would die there. A few days later I went back and the rest is history. Just an awesome dog. I replaced him about 6 months later with another shelter dog but younger and I have to say I hit the jackpot with this guy but I'll never forget the 1st who's name was Chance. My sister called him "2nd chance."

This Good Boi Showed Up One Year Ago Tonight. He Rescued Us As Much As He Was Rescued
Beautiful. Yes, we may rescue these beautiful animals but they rescue us right back with all their love.
All the animals I’ve lived with as an adult with my own home have been the ones to decide they wanted to live with me. They chose me, not the other way around. The ones I lived with as a child accepted me as a pack mate who needed looking after, and were the best babysitters and most fun siblings ever (and I even had human versions of both).
That's what non-animal lovers don't get - the flood of unconditional love from an animal 😍🤗🥰
......always loyal, completely trustworthy, will never betray you.
Now he just needs to teach you how to sit.... in a chair. Or not. You both look so happy together on the floor.

Signing Over The Adoption Papers Today For My New Baby, Moo. Any And All Tips And Advice Are Welcome!
Tip: Get a second one! Unless there are serious reasons why not to (sick bun or super aggressive towards others), buns should not be kept alone. A lot of countries even require the adoption of two buns.
Hay and grass should form the majority of the diet!
Load More Replies...We had a house rabbit for 10 years, they are wonderful pets! Congratulations! We fed ours nice hay from the feed store. It should smell fresh and sweet, watch out for moldy hay. The feed store always had some broken bales so we just bought a fold at a time. Straw is the best bedding and bathroom for bunny. They will pee in the proper place but their poops can not always be in the box. They are dry and not messy so not much problem. If they are wet or sticky you can give them some probiotic powder on some shredded carrot or a bit of banana, that always worked. We gave ours some carrot, kale and a bit of banana, but these are treats not steady diet. She also loved a few grains of bird seed. Once you establish the optimal diet stick to that. Do not use cat litter in
Do not use cat litter. It expands in their gut and can make them sick or die. We walked ours on a leash, she loved the outdoors. She would leap for joy! They have to chew always so protect your furniture and floors. They live a sunny patch to nap in. Bunnies are a joy to have as a friend. Wish you the best!
Load More Replies...We adopted two baby rabbits. Once I was sitting with a large, glossy 'coffee table book' and they proceeded to climb up my leg, climb over the top of the book and use it for a slide.
Keep the bedding- wood shavings or straw- clean and dry. Water supply topped up. Do not overfeed.
Lots of cuddles daily. Little scritches on the side of the nose. Timothy hay daily!! Prepare for binks and flops. Buns are the BEST
if bun is an indoor bun, get a corner litter tray and some litter and when bun decided where she/he is going to toilet put it there. I miss my bun but cant have one at the moment. Looks like a little cuddle bug x
My bunny is a lone bun but he is very close friends with myself, a cat, and a guinea pig! He especially likes the guinea pig, they play tag in their outdoor run. Plus my housemates pet him often and give him treats, also he has 7 chickens nearby. He watches their antics and seems entertained. He seems happy. He's 14 now. When he's inside he uses a litterbox with paper pellets, not clay. Timothy hay of course in his outdoor hutch. His favorite treat food is bananna. He is very cuddly and likes to sit on my lap while I watch TV. He is rascally and even at age 14 with partial blindness he will still explore with curiosity. Hops on a leash sometimes. He talks with cute little grunty sounds. Rabbits make excellent pets. He's the best bun I've ever had and I've had several. I adopted him because someone found him in a pile of tires in an auto yard. Congratulations on your rabbit adoption. I love my rabbit very much. He's family!

Sorry to inform you that the rescue clinic misidentified this animal as a cat. It's not a cat. You now own a bear.
He could be a mix😊 The way his ears sit high on his head, Maine c**n, but his face is more Norwegian.
What a beautiful cat! I'd love one like that to take over the Senior Complex I live in!
oh my lord he's a beautiful boi. Could almost mistake him for a Maine C**n, but his face isn't broad enough. :D

Please make sure pets are secured when travelling in cars. You wear a seat belt, so surely your pets deserve protection too ! Put cats and other small animals in carriers, and secure those with seat belts. Get safety harnesses for larger dogs. Adoption Day! 9 Yr Old Good Boy Zak, We’re Gonna Make Sure Your Last Years Are Your Best❤️
We adopted a Cockapoo that was about 10 and TERRIBLY neglected. She was losing her sight and hearing and had a heart murmur and the vet said she couldn't last long. We had her cleaned and clipped and got her flea free. She didn't know how to play so we think she had an old person owner. We named her Dixie and she was with us for 3 years. Older dogs are a blessing ina lot of ways. I think we receive more than we give with seniors. We loved her till the end and she had 3 happy years where she was much loved. When she passed it was with a sigh. The vet said she was sighing because she was content. Senior dogs are a blessing.
Well done. So very kind. Yes sometimes it hurts, but such a good and kind thing to do.

Just Adopted My First Rats Last Week. It’s So Great Seeing Them Come Out Of Their Shells
Rats make excellent pets. They are intelligent, clean and not psychopaths like hamsters.
I spent the morning playing with my 10 week old rat, Jasper. He was meant to be a feeder but the snake wouldn't eat him and the person who had him advertised him as free, so I snatched him up and am going to give him the best life. He has a respiratory infection and flees or mites, but as soon as he's better he's moving in with my older boy and then (when she's spayed) my crazy girl, Cricket. Rats are the best pets <3

I Was Only Planning On Getting One Cat When I Adopted These Two...couldnt Separate Them
Yup, that happend to us as well. We went to the shelter to adopt one cat but he brought his sister along. Best decision ever: two cats dont cost you that much more then one and they have a cat friend to cuddle and play with. If you can always try to adopt two. (Of course there are cats that dont like other cats, if you have one of those, one alone is perfectly finde)
You won't regret it and thank you so much for adopting both kitties.

Such an amazing photo, of them both. Your kitten is adorable, and I'm sure there was a great transformation in your kitty. It looks like a dried tear on her fur by her eye... Thank you Mum and Dad, for adopting me and giving me, a furever home❤❤❤!❤ ❤Derek The GreatMaggie Dougherty 1 minute ago

The Pregnant Stray I Took In Finally Gave Birth To A Litter Of Seven Kittens. How’s Your Quarantine Going?
Huh, are any of them calicos like mom? They all look one or two colours at most. Strange how that works!
Just marveling over that. Calicos usually birth more calicos.

So sweet!. When I adopted my dog, he refused to get back in the car. I didn't force him I just would take me other dog on a hike or to the park. I think once he noticed that I always came back with the dog, he decided to go with us one day after a bunch of coaxing. No he equals car rides with adventures! He has come so far from when I first brought him home!

We have also rescued a Scooby Doo <3 (That's his actual name, my then 6 year old son got to give him his new name when we adopted him from Spain) IMG_3777-5...ab4734.jpg

Thank you for taking in two black kitties. Unfortunately, many people are still unwilling to do so.
Which is ridiculous as black cats are just as adorable and affectionate as any other cat.

One good thing about this pandemic. People are finding new housemates!

I just want to know how everyone is able to adopt these pets? In my area all the adoptions have been suspended and all rescues have gone into foster care. I've been trying for weeks to adopt and the shelters have either said not until after the pandemic or just not responded at all! 😔
So happy to see these adopted babies. Hope they are kept well and happy.
