You usually talk to the anesthesiologist before your surgery. You could then tell the person.

Wow. Odd fact. And here is another one: The medical science and the doctors who practice it know very well that anaesthesia works, but they still do not know exactly why it functions.

I love this fact. I've been under general anaesthtic loads and time literally stops. It's weird. There's just nothing, not even a concept of time passing, you don't even know you're unconcious. It's scarier (for me) to have the cannula put in for the anaesthesia than to be under general.

Proven in a recent study. I'm a redhead-just had spinal surgery-anesthesiologists knew about it, but not a single doctor. But it's not remaining unconscious that's a problem-that's controlled by their readouts, & they adjust. It's more about the semi-conscious state they supposedly put you in for minor procedures. I felt every cut during my cataract surgery, & don't even ask about the colonoscopy. We also require significantly higher doses of pain relief. Try convincing your idiot doctor that their normal dosage is insufficient & you're immediately pegged as a drug abuser.

The hair on redheads also pull out/or brake off easier than other colors. I know this because my friend almost died from getting her hair stuck in a mettle lathe. The only reason she lived (she was alone at the time and was found hours later) was that her hair broke off or was pulled out of her scalp.

Oh, yes! When I was in my early 20s, I had a horrible impacted wisdom tooth. It had to be cut out, not pulled out. Back in those bad old days (1969), docs could give you general anesthesia and do oral surgery in their office -- you didn't have to go to a hospital. When they started the anesthetic, I felt as if I were drowning, not going to sleep. It took four people to hold me down because I got violent and tried to attack the people that were “drowning” me -- tried to slug them and get out of the chair. I was pretty athletic back then. They got me under eventually. When I woke up, they told me they’d never had anyone that was so hard to get anesthetized. I didn’t remember any of it. I was so embarrassed, but my husband thought it was hilarious. He and the staff joked about it while I was still getting the surgery done.

As per a google search on WebMD: The link is likely due to an improperly functioning receptor on certain cells that give pigment to people's skin and hair. This dysfunction triggers a feedback mechanism that increases release of the hormone that normally stimulates these cells. This hormone also stimulates a brain receptor that increases pain sensitivity. "In a nutshell, redheads are likely to experience more pain from a given stimulus and therefore require more anesthesia to alleviate that pain," he says.

Yes as a red head I can confirm the fact that we do feel more pain. I had a lazer removal thing for something on my skin and they said I would just fell a little pinch. She even showed me how it would feel, I even got numbing cream. I tell you it hurt so bad. It was a instant bruise because the since the lazer is cauterizing the skin.

Coming out of surgery my doctor remarked that he was certain I was a natural redhead. Startled I asked how. "Because we had to almost double your anesthesia." I had always thought that was a myth until then.

Not a myth at all. I am a redhead and have woken up under anesthesia twice. But, it may not apply to all redheads. When I read about it it was listed as a possibility not a certainty.

As a redhead, I can confirm that the dentist gives me 2 shots to freeze and it only slightly numbs, I tell them it is frozen as I hate needles. I do have a higher tolerance for pain. When I was a child and having my tonsils out, I remember waking up on the table and everyone freaked out. The nurse looked terrified and said "OH MY GOD DOCTOR, SHE IS AWAKE", the anesthesiologist put the gas mask over my face and I went out again.

Piglets like the one in the photo are not baby-eating monsters, but a fully grown pig weighs between 50 and 350 kg (110 and 770 lb) and they are, like us, omnivores. In fact, we have a lot in common. We even eat piglets, you know.

Butterflies sometimes drink blood.

Dogs like squeaky toys because the noise reminds them of small animals dying.

It's not actually known how anaesthetics work.

Also on the note of anaesthesia, until the 80s they weren't used on babies because it was believed they couldn't feel pain.

On average, you walk past 15 murderers in a lifetime.

Arigato" is Japanese for "Thank you."

"Obrigado" is Portuguese for "Thank you."

Portugal was the first European country to really make meaningful contact with Japan, which was the easternmost heavily-populated country/region in Asia. Portugal happens to be the westernmost country in Europe.

The two words, Arigato and Obrigado, are linguistically completely unrelated.

Those two very similar words developed in completely isolated contexts on opposite ends of the world's largest landmass, and they mean the same thing.
