Entertainment, pop culture, and lifestyle expert Mike Sington from Lost Angeles shared with Bored Panda what Pride Month is like on the West Coast of the US. "Pride Month in California is a big deal, and every city and town, large and small, celebrates it in one way or another," he said.
According to Mike, who's known as Hollywood's Ultimate Insider, California is a true haven for the LGBTQ+ community. It's not just about general acceptance and tolerance in society, though; it's about the laws in place as well. "California is one of the most liberal and forward-thinking states, so LGBTQ rights are protected in California by law much more so than in many other states," he told Bored Panda.

This is like one of those things that you get the feeling you shouldn't laugh at but do anyways...
Veterans get gratitude and praise (which they usually deserve). Gays get bullied, rejected, discriminated against, and sometimes murdered. One month is not enough.
Elijah Schaffer: My brother was a veteran and gay. Neither one affected his performance in either category.
May is Military/Veteran appreciation month. Be informed that’s not a valid argument.
But there is an entire military appreciation month. AT least there is in the states
Well then since you fit on the lgbtq+ spectrum you count :)

Just because someone is gay, that doesn't mean that their fabulous. I'm sure many of them are as grey, drab and miserable as the rest of us straight folk.
Grey-wearing depressed manly gay guy here : you are right. And when people assume we all should be extravagant weirdos, it is slightly insulting.
Load More Replies...Sounds about right, brands take note that some people live the way they want to all year and not just one designated month. (Trying to jab at corporate nonsense and how they love to capitalize on stuff)
i'm not gay but i have a trans friend and she and her other similar friends hate the rainbow theme. we were a group of goths in HS so that much color disgusts us lol
Mike noted that celebrities, well-known brands, and corporations showing support for the LGBTQ+ community all have a "big impact" on the road to greater acceptance and equality. He also believes that most people expressing support for the community are being genuine. "I believe the more people see and experience acceptance around them, especially from names they trust, the more likely they are to experience acceptance themselves," the expert said.
"I’d hate to think anyone is pretending to be supportive of the LGBTQ community for personal gain, in fact, I just don’t think it happens all that much at all. The vast majority of people expressing support legitimately care about the cause. If not, they’d be called out quickly, by a community that works together and knows how to mobilize. It simply wouldn’t be worth the risk to feign support."
Except in homophobic countries. Don't ever forget that : companies are not evil, they are not good, they have no values, no feelings, no opinions, their purpose is to create profit.
That's capitalism, folks, and it's up to consumers to hold producers accountable for their hypocricy. Speak with your pocketbook.
Ok so the pride flag has a major design flaw. ALL THE STRIPES ARE STRAIGHT
You are correct. That needs to be fixed. All the stripes must be zig zag or wavy

There was some good news for Americans on Tuesday, June 1, as the President of the United States, Joe Biden, issued a presidential proclamation officially recognizing June as Pride Month. Biden vowed to fight for full equality for the LGBTQ+ community and to codify this into law.
According to The New York Times, Biden’s Pride proclamation stands in stark contrast to former Republican President Donald Trump’s (in)actions in 2020. Last year, Trump ignored Pride Month and didn’t even acknowledge it with a presidential tweet. Meanwhile, embassies overseas were prohibited from flying the rainbow Pride flag, too.
I’m Pumpkin! I don’t think this is fair advertising unless some percentage is donated to LGBTQ+ charities but I had this sandwich and it is very tasty, i would recommend 🙃
I'm bi, but I'm freaking out because I'm also vegetarian. I have become the very thing I sought to destroy
High five for overcoming internalized homo/biphobia! :D Same here 'cept i don't really use labels.
Load More Replies...I get the sentiment and that we don't want to support stuff like "greenwashing" and "pridewashing" from corporations because they're really just taking advantage of the situation to profit from it, BUT, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Corporations have a lot of influence and even if their motives aren't great, them going hard for pride month helps to normalize and destigmatize to a larger portion of society. So, yes, support small business, especially the ones that have to struggle against these stigmas, but encourage the big corporations to do their thing that ultimately does have a positive influence regardless of their motives.
Or I’ll just support all local business, regardless if they’re LGBT or not.
paonia, Colorado. the 2 block long town has a lesbian owned ice cream place, EVERYTHING is LGBTQ supportive. It's also adorable.
“After four years of relentless attacks on L.G.B.T.Q.+ rights, the Biden-Harris administration has taken historic actions to accelerate the march toward full L.G.B.T.Q.+ equality,” the White House declared on Tuesday.
To be fair, Biden’s own views on gay rights evolved over the decades and decades that he spent in politics. He wasn’t always a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. For instance, in 1996, he voted for an act that blocked the recognition of same-sex marriages on a federal level. In 2012, as vice-president, Biden was already endorsing same-sex marriage and is even credited for urging then-President Barack Obama to express support as well.
Way to go Josh ... looks like you grew up to be a decent human after all!
I literally read that as "hOw dO yOu dO gAy" and I now know the height of my stupidity
I’m using my gayness as a excuse to do whatever the f**k I want. ( just to clarify - this is a joke. I’m not going to be toxic and use being gay as a excuse. )
You're great. You're not gay, you're not straight, you're graight.
Load More Replies...When I went to a pride event in 2019, I actually did hear someone say this. It was pretty funny.
Now, Biden has fully embraced the necessity to ensure equality for all of those living in the United States. For instance, he consulted LGBTQ+ activists about policy recommendations during the presidential transition, as he was coming into office, which shows that he’s about taking action, not just about making promises.
They can come. If they support or identify as LGBTQ then they are welcome

They do it with anything or anyone they think they can get a money grab off of. Breast cancer in October is a big one, they all claim “a portion of the proceed goes to breast cancer” research or awareness. They do NOT mention that portion can be .001% of the profits. Any amount that they donate, and they almost always put a cap on the Possible top, is legally a portion of the proceeds.

Yeah the Pride skittles are really cool. My mom bought like 10 bags of them

July is Gay Wrath Month. August is Gay Sloth Month, because after all that, we're tired and it's too hot outside.

Hey, I’m straight, took my gay friend to the pride parade for the first time, to show her the support she snd her partner have in the community. When she saw that the hospital is worked in sponsored a float and had a good number of her co- workers representing, she left plowing through a bag of malasada’s and going on non-stop about how awesome the day was. Some of us straight people are not all bad
I was actually the one who told my bi friend it was pride month. She feel on her knees with a fantastic YES! (Also today’s my birthday)
... I have two straight friends. Both are homophobic, so my girlfriend and best friend are still closeted to them. They don't even know that me and my girlfriend are dating- i think.
me saying "is that homophobia? during pride month?" whenever something inconveniences me
Companies : *put rainbow colours on the same things as usual. Sell them at a higher price. Make more money and get a good reputation.
NGL, love the wrapper. Why don't they keep it all year long? Make it normal
thanos is gay because he loves his rainbow infinity stones and will kill anyone for them
I'm not the same on the inside when I have a girl's entire fist in there.
If they did otherwise, they would be in literal danger. Physically.
Legally too, unfortunately. At least in Russia anything might be considered as propaganda and thus punishable by law... Anything minor, tho this would be quite noticeable
Load More Replies...That's just showing that the companies care only about the marketing and money. If they care about LGBT, they would change it in those countries as well, but that would mean they would be stoned to death... or just lose a lot of money which they might deem worse tbh.
Do what you want, dress how you want, throw away all your f***s so you have none to give. You don't need to be what society wants you to be. Be yourself.
“Why won’t people accept us for who we are?” >wears rubber dog mask and harness and walks on hands and knees being pulled by a leash while parents try to take their kids to a store.
Honestly idc if they have a pride section or not, it's whether they pay massive amounts of money to anti-gay politicians/countries that matters to me.
YOU GUYS- it's talking about their kitchens, as in, gay people are welcome and they won't discriminate against people they hire because of their sexuality, they just phrased it really badly. Also it might not even be true. So.
They did this for women's day too to highlight the gender imbalance that they've created in their kitchens

They hate gay people who say "How do you know if you haven't tried it?" and wish corporations would stop drawing attention to it. Fix homophobia by proper education and let the gays have a normal life. And I agree with them. A lot of gay people who joined the parades because of June will be the proud recipients of homophobic hate mail in July despite everyone knowing they were gay in the first place. What they would prefer is a weekend of a gay event to raise awareness and understanding rather than a month of ramming it down peoples throats with nothing to show for it
I agree. A lot of schools including mine have 'gay organizations' which does not make people who are LGBTQ+ feel valued or normal, in fact it makes us feel like we are something for people too see, to put on display. It's shoved down our throats that straight people UndERsTAnD but what you're doing is making being not straight abnormal, which in turn makes it harder for me to come out too people as they might treat me differently. I think it's ok to joke about it, but in the same way you would joke about a straight person.
