Someone recently asked Reddit users to share words and phrases that alert them that they won't like a person, and readers did not hold back. As a Christian (lol considering this article's title), I've always hated the use of that phrase. I do believe in God's will, but it shouldn't be used as a replacement for loving and serving a person, and definitely not as an excuse that a person "got what they deserved". God's will could be many things but it will always involve loving and caring for other human beings (and yourself)

Hating yes, disliking or just plain disinterest no. I can understand people not wanting to have a pet, just like I can understand people not wanting to have kids. Lots of work, restrict what you can do, cost lots of money. For some people that's enough reason to not want them. But to actively hate them? Unless they were mauled as a kid I can't understand that.

While Bill Murray may not have the squeaky clean image he once had, or isn't as well perceived today as he was back then, I think he has a quote that best describes the situation (though with dogs). “I'm suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn't like a person.”

My wife, when we were dating, had a cat that adopted me. That little cat was new to the household and stayed in hiding until I walked in. She snuck in behind the furniture and jumped on my lap. She slept on my chest, followed me everywhere, and would only take her food from me. I was never a cat person before that.

Not just abuse, but torture and murder. Makes you wonder when they’re going to graduate to doing the same to humans they hate. Listen, I’m not fond of snakes and spiders, but that doesn’t mean I would attack someone’s pet tarantula or python because of it. I’d just give their pets a wide berth—-and even overcome my dislike if the animal was in danger (like if it got out of the house and tried to cross the road). It might be unpleasant for me, but I’m not so callous I’d just stand by and let someone’s pet die if I could save it.

Anyone who "hates" any animal is not very smart. You should only "hate" that which MEANS you harm for no logical reason. The only animal which will ever do that is a human.

My skin, nose, and eyes hates cats! I love all animals but I choose ro distance myself from cats as much as possible because when I don't I can't breathe, everything gets all itchy, and I break out in hives. So sometimes to get cat lovers to leave me alone and keep their cats away, I just tell them I hate cats.

In some parts of India too. Black cats were used in black magic and stuff. My very old neighbour told us that people came to catch black cats in our locality for these purposes. And black cats became rare. It was a long time ago. Of course my black cat brother was sunbathing on the porch listening to all these stories.

Oh come on. My hated of cats is because I'm super allergic to them. If you were allergic to anything else and said "I hate" that thing, no one would think your a bad person. "Poor billy died because he hated bees. He hated bees all the way until the end when one stung him. If only he hadn't hated bees so much. " this sounds silly.

I'm super allergic too. I get the vaccines. And there is a difference between disliking animals or not wanting to be near them and full-on hating them. Hating a completely innocent creature says something about the person.

If i would be on a date and he told me that he hates animals, there would not be a second date. I am a "cat person" but I also love dogs. According to my own experience, men who hate cats are often insecure in their own masculinity. Cats cannot be controlled like dogs and these men needs control to assure themselves they are "real men". And off topic, how on earth can you hate an animal? They are not good or bad. They act according to their instincts. The only acceptable bad respond to an animal is if you have a phobia. But still, to hate..😐

I call BS on this one. Cats are often jerks, and even the nicest ones are bound to hurt you with their claws even if they don't mean to. I've had a favorite cat or two, but on the whole I really don't like them much. So yeah, I've said I hate cats on many occasions, yet I do not abuse them. I hate them like I hate children - every once in awhile I find a real gem, but I'm not interested in getting stuck with one that isn't.

To the point of abuse? Absolutely. Same for dog-haters, snake-haters, gerbil-haters, goldfish-haters, any of the animal haters. Animal abuse is animal abuse, regardless of which animal. Cats are too hit-or-miss for my tastes but I certainly wouldn't abuse one. This one escalated quickly.

So people cant dislike animals in this day n age...maybe they got bit by a dog when they were younger and now have a fear but they say hate instead. But it seems to be black and white on here...no room for empathy or understanding.

I personally am more of a dog person, simply because they are more social animals than cats. I do like cats, but I love dogs. My parents Boston Terriers are the most precious dogs I've ever met, if maybe just a little too affectionate.

That's a popular stereotype, but cats crave attention and affection just like dogs do, it's just that it's not always as easy to read cats' body language as it is dogs, so it's easier to miss or misinterpret. My cat is a big baby and absolutely needs snuggles and affection everyday. I like and have both dogs and cats. They just tend to show their affection differently.

"I hate cats. They don't do anything. I love dogs. They protect their family and people come up to you when you're walking a dog." It gives me the sense that that those who says this do so to try to come across cooler than you.

Also, men who hate cats are usually the type who are so insecure they need someone fawning over them all the time. Cats are independent and live on their terms. One reason that I love them but insecure people can't handle that. I love dogs, too, but they tend to be more needy and require more attention than is comfortable for me. So I just love on other people's dogs.

Okay ... what is the proper reaction then, to the fat cats from the neighbourhood using my garden as toilet and going on a killing spree, leaving dead and half eaten wild birds on my lawn? Why do I have to accept other people's pets on my property, have to clean up all the mess (cat owner's refuse to help), but get yelled at and the police called when I send mine over to their gardens? Why have my pets less rights than their cats, are forbidden to roam freely and are beaten out of their gardens? PS: Horses, two friendly, very old horses, who love crispy grass and a nap and leave the best tomato fertilizer for free - what did you assume? (I do not send them over actively, one is a Houdini and has learnt to open fences and knots)

I was with you until you said horses - they’re the most ridiculous animals from a climate change perspective. You have to have a massive 4x4 and trailer or lorry to carry the things around. They use huge amounts of space that could be for arable land and produce huge amounts of methane for what? A pet? You’d be better keeping a cow, and then eating after!

Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." ... according to Socrates, who lived between 469 and 399 B.C. The world is changing so fast, so every young generation faces new struggles that should be taken seriously by the more experienced generations.

For me it’s not words or phrases. It’s tone. If they sound stressed or panicked or impatient over a small issue, I immediately know they’re a chore to deal with. For example, you toss trash in the bin, miss. Go to pick it up, and they jump on you for littering.

Bit of a snap judgment this one. You never know what other problems people are dealing with. The person who's sounding panicky may have a family member in hospital and they're desperately trying to get through the day at work so they can go visit them.

I'm sorry but what's wrong with "I'm on the spectrum"..? I'm very literally on the autism spectrum, clinically diagnosed, and I've used that phrase to refer to it. Do people that aren't on the spectrum say it too to seem quirky or something? This is a genuine question heh
