I'm a Canadian/Dutch photographer named Ryan Koopmans. Even though I'm well established and published across the world, I've never made a photography book. Until now, at least. My book "Vantage" explores the earth’s man-made structures, surreal architecture, and megacities, evoking the insight and intrigue experienced from a traveling photographer’s perspective. I took these high-definition photos from cranes, planes, hills, and mountains, yet I preferred not to use a drone. It's because drones don't offer the control and the quality that I like to have for my pictures.

I've been collecting the material for the book for over 10 years. As you'd imagine, it takes a lot of time and money to travel across the globe. I took these photographs in Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Iraq, Brazil, USA, UK, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Georgia, Ukraine, Spain, Sweden, Canada, Dubai, Malaysia, and many other places. The aesthetic and the style of the architecture differs from place to place, though what's common in all of them is the astonishing grand scale and the emerging patterns of decay and growth inside cities. The shots vary from panoramic views to pattern-like close-ups of buildings and shapes of structures, to solemn constructions standing in contrast with nature.

In short, I hope that this 10-years-worth collection of astonishing structures and awe-inspiring landscapes will have something for everybody's liking. If you're interested in checking out my complete book, the Blackdog link is down below. Enjoy, and thanks.

It's the "breakwater." A lot of harbors have these to stop the major swells before they reach the coast. It makes for a calmer harbor area.

I watched a video on this neighborhood. It's where a lot of high ranking people in the government live. They have to work like 90 hour work weeks and can't keep anything that they have, like houses and cars. Basically, be worked to the bone and have a bunch of nice things, or leave and lose all the luxurious possessions.
