It's the end of the month, which means Bored Panda has compiled a new list of adorable animal adoption photos. Many kittens, doggos, bunnies, and other critters have found their forever homes in April, and can now relax and enjoy being part of their new families.
It's incredibly heartwarming to know that with the coronavirus ravaging the world and some shelters closed to the public, people are still finding ways to open their hearts and offer neglected animals a second chance at life.

My Husband Couldn't Have Pets Growing Up. When We Bought Our First House I Got Him A Little Surprise
My sister's husband was pet deprived growing up too. Mom wouldn't have any dirty animals in the house, not even a bird or fish. The woman had issues. But I digress. Over the years he got accustomed to, then really loved, in ascending order: fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, a bunny, cats, and dogs. He is a dedicated pet lover/spoiler. My sister has to put the brakes on his spoiling! So, this guy is on his way to a wonderful life. His wife is a jewel to do this for him.
Ahhhhhh. No seriously... ahhhhhh. Also men pretend to not care about pets and then get caught out being really soppy and the pet turns out to be a daddies boy.
I don't pretend nothin...I wear my love of animals like a comfy sweater, I melt with lil kitties and puppies ;) I just feel sorry for any kids whos parents won't allow pets, kids that grow up with pets learn responsibility and get lots of love and play in return, it's a win-win!
Load More Replies..."During this period of great uncertainty, one bright spot has been the incredibly passionate response from people willing to open their homes and hearts to foster and adopt vulnerable shelter animals," Pamela Reid, PhD, CAAB, Vice President of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Behavioral Sciences Team, told Bored Panda in a statement. "At the ASPCA, we have seen a nearly 70 percent increase in animals going into foster care through our New York City and Los Angeles foster programs, compared to the same time period in 2019. Even in times of crisis, Americans are stepping up to show their commitment to animals in need."
My Dog, Who Has Never Liked Cats, Adopted My Bottle Baby Foster Kitten. She Adopted Him Too, I Think
He was just waiting for the right cat to come along. And this very cute kitten was the one. The dog is very handsome.
Not all animal shelters expected this. "We thought people were going to bring their animals in and then run for the hills," Katy Hansen, communications director for the Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), told Vox. However, the pandemic opened up an entirely new demographic of potential pet fosters: "The people that were filling up the applications were primarily millennials who lived with roommates. That's not a demographic that we usually see coming forward to foster because they're working and they live with three people." At any given time, ACC has over 600 animals in their care. Now, it's less than 100.
After Adopting Our First Cat Everyone Prepared Us For A Nervous And Timid First Few Weeks, This Was Our Sweet Boy 30 Minutes Later
I add my congratulations and...can I hug him for just a few minutes? Pweeze? >^..^<
That was like when I adopted my cat Gracie. She was a 2 year old rescue from a rough situation. We took to each other right away. <3
Reid also noted that it's important to think about the future when our regular work and school routines commence again. "Your dog or cat may be left confused (and lonely!) once everyone is rushing out the door instead of spending time at home. Even while you and your family are home, start to prepare your pet by designating time for them to spend ... alone throughout the day."
First, Reid suggested creating a cozy, inviting place for your dog or cat to nap away from all the activity of remote work and school. You can even put on some soothing music or radio. For example, there are Spotify playlists dedicated entirely to calming your pet.
"When giving your pet time away from you, offer your dog tasty chews to keep him busy. You can purchase all sorts of interesting and easily digestible chews online, such as bully sticks, tendons, tracheas, scapulas and cheek rolls," Reid explained. "Both dogs and cats will also be entertained for some time with an interactive food-puzzle toy."
The Neighbours Wanted To Put Down This Dog Due To Being Very Aggressive. Instead, My Dad Adopted Him Into Our Family
Shadow was very aggressive when we first brought him home but now he is filled with so much love. He is with his two best friends everyday playing and sleeping together
*nods* aggression in dogs is often fear, he has been through bad times. Bless you Dad.
Sometimes I don't understand pet owners. glad this one found a great home.
My old dog was named Shadow. She was a big black lab with the sweetest heart ever. She would never bite and she would never hurt anyone unless they were trying to hurt me or my family but luckily it never came to that. We loved her but she got sick and we had to put her down. Dogs are amazing and we don't deserve them
He was aggressive because he never got any attention from his previous owners. Show em some love. They'll show it back.
Also, there are many free game apps for cats to play with on their own. Reid said you can also find battery-operated toys online that may keep your cat busy and happy on their own. "Leave your home and take a stroll outside without your dog occasionally to practice leaving the house for short durations. While you're out, leave your dog a chew or their meal in a puzzle toy to keep them busy and occupied during your absence."
Pets have kept us company for thousands of years, and they've been especially helpful during the quarantine, helping us manage our stress and anxiety levels. So let's try to put in the extra effort and help them transition back to normal life when the pandemic is over.
This Little Girl We Found In A Cardboard Box
Oh my, those eyes! That coloring! Must. Cuddle. Now. Don't. Care. About. Scratches.
The only cardboard box she belongs in is an aqua one from Tiffany. With the white silk bow.
That would be the cutest name though. Little Cinnabun
Load More Replies...For weeks I have been looking at adoptable kittens that are less than $100. Well, I can't leave the house just yet but for when I CAN leave...and I see people online frequently who find them all over the dang place! Why can't a couple simply show up in front of my house? I'll even take TWO. =)
That's an expensive breed. I'm happy that she ended up with a family instead of impulse buyers.
Sebastien Recently Gained A New Little Sister
Like any big brother, Sebastien is tolerating the annoying antics of a little sister. Yeah, they love one another.
I can see he's nuts about the idea too! They will find their way. Never fear. They usually work it out between themselves. Bless their hearts.
Abbi Learned How To Walk Upstairs Alone And She’s Very Proud Of Herself
Everyone Meet Jake (7-Years-Old). My Wife (Pictured) And I Adopted Him Yesterday From A Local Shelter
Jake has been in 4 different homes in the last year and deals with a ton of anxiety. But with lots of love and his new big sister, Gigi, he's going to be just fine
Older dogs have the perfect energy level for adults and seniors. Always pick a dog with a matching energy to yours!
My dog Aubree has been in too many homes to count. People didn´t want her because she´s anxious, has ear problems, and is a little clumsy. But she is fun and hard-headed which makes her fit in. We are currently working on helping her ears and have had her for a few years now. We hope that in the near future we will be able to get her a little sister to play with her.
Four homes in one year.... :'-( I really hope, the new owners can give hime the home he clearly needs. Poor old boy.
Hello handsome Jake! To your Mom & Dad, thanks for rescuing. Well done!
Maybe not. My German shepherds have gone grey around the muzzle by 6 years of age. Dogs are like people. Some of us grey in their twenties.

My Mom Meeting Her Dream Kitten For The First Time Today
Please, as tiny and cute as they are, but put your kittens in a carrier when driving a car. This little one might get scared by someone honking or rushing past or whatever and make a dash for it, distracting the driver or getting stuck below the break pedal. Won't end well, neither for the driver nor for the kitten. Carriers, folks, carriers!
I agree with this. Bringing our rescue chihuahua home, we stopped at a stop sign. Window open, he proceeded to jump out. Luckily we were in a semi rural area and we got him right back, but I have had nightmares to this day and will never carry any animal in the car without a cage ever again.

Aren't animals amazing 😍 I read a true story of a non-verbal autistic boy who was given a cat, and after some time with the cat, he became happier and even started talking
I'm so happy for your son! I hope you keep seeing more advances from their interactions.

The Two Puppies Who Visited The Georgia Aquarium Were Adopted Together Today
This makes me heart so happy that they not only got the forever homes they deserve but together!!!!!!! Thank you
They are adorable and lucky to be kept together in their new home. Congratulations.
Look at this cute white puppy with black ear and half different color face so cute - both are adorable
She Suddenly Slept Like This While I Was Just Playing With Her. It Was A Stray Kitten, My Brother Adopted Her

My little black Jira has a few white hairs like this in her arm pits. Absolutely adorable!
My Dad Just Got A Kitten
Too tiny. Needs KMR in a bottle. Kitten Milk Replace. Every few hours.
Way too tiny. And get that food out of the can... I mean. You can see he wants to do the right thing. But anyone can see this tiny ball of fur needs a a little more help, right...
Load More Replies...Yes, needs a bottle with formula. Please no cows milk. Cats are actually lactose intolerant.

My New Puppy. She’s A Mutt, Some German Shepard And Some Australian Cattle Dog
Very cute :) Not to be that person (although I am) I notice that almost everyone is writing 'shepard' these days... it's shepherd, as in a sheep-herding dog!
This Is Little Arietty, Patiently Waiting For Me To Throw Her Toy. I Am Starting To Suspect That We May Have Adopted A Doggo
This is the most dog-like cat I;ve ever seen, included my old neighborn's cat, who bred German sheperds (the neighbor, not the cat; or maybe it was the cat, can't be sure really).
Maybe she’s a dog in a cat suit. Our Smudgy (cat) is like that. But Scruffy (dog) acting like a cat in a dog suit balances it all out.
My big grey tom loved playing fetch. Didn't teach him, he figured it out for himself a few weeks after I adopted him.(oddly, it took ages to teach my first dog to play fetch!). My sweet, loving, cuddly boy died a couple of months ago age 17. I miss him very much, & so does his 20yo sister :'(
Dad’s New Little Girl
I love the shirt too. That shirt should be required wear for every parent at the little league games.

They just dumped him! Take good care of Wilson I know you will, he's cute
Thank you for having such a huge heart. Wilson needs a better owner than he had.
How do you go from at one point being concerned enough to chip him to not caring?
What awful people. Same thing happened when our dog Sunny just walked up to the house. When we finally decided to keep him, took to vet, scanned, him had a chip. Vet called the number, we were just standing there, he left a message. They never called back. Thank goodness! Same thing with the cat that found is. Crawled under our fence on the patio in March of 2017, we took to vet, he had a chip, called the owners. They said they moved in November of 2016, and the new place did not accept animals, so they just let him go. He spent the whole winter outdoors. He stayed in teh basement sleeping for 3 weeks, only to come up for food. He now loves to sit in the window soaking up the sun
It's too bad the previous owners can't be fined for cruelty and negligence
Load More Replies...If the owners of dumped animals can be traced, they should be fined heavily.

My Husband And I Found This Dog Wandering Around In Our Neighborhood Today. Turns Out She’s Been Seen Around For Weeks, And No Owner Has Come Forward
She doesn’t have a chip or tags, so we’re taking her in indefinitely while we search for her owner. We’ve been calling her Juno
Oh, one owner came forward. A new owner—-scratch that—-a wonderful, loving new family!
I got a beautiful cat like that. We gather the owners moved and left him behind. So well trained, so well behaved, I will never understand anyone doing that to a cat who had obviously been loved.
If the owner hasn't looked for her for weeks, they don't deserve the dog.
keep her safe - might be the first time in her life she is cared about
We Rescued A Pregnant Cat. Best Decision Ever. This Is Her With Her Son
Ok, she is the spitting image of my childhood cat. She got to the ripe old age of 21 before passing away. I still miss her...
I adopted a mama kitty later her kitties had 2 litters 2 days apart 9 furballs. I still have one left. Miss Puss is going to be 26 yrs old in one month. My vet can't believe she is in such good shape. She has no hearing, no teeth. But still full of it. .....just in short bursts.
Load More Replies...Beautiful family ❤️ I foster kitties too 🙂 Just a tip - cats don't like and don't need collars, especially with bells, which dingle under their ears all day and annoy their hearing. 👈
This! Thank you. I don't get why people do that to pets. I'm always tempted to make them wear a collar with a bell, so they can find out how god-awfully annoying it is to have that chime in your ears all day (and night) long.
Load More Replies...Beautiful family! If they stay with you, I hope you keep at least one of the kittens - mom and kid pairs are the best.

Why do people take in animals if they are just going to mistreat them?
Awful, isn't it? Some people are simply unpleasant and some might just be clueless - though that is still a crappy excuse in my opinion. No need to cause harm, just hand the animal back so that someone better suited can be found. May this lovely dog have the happiest life.

Seriously! I don’t know why people crop ears and tails. Wagging tails help you gauge Doggie’s feelings (direction, speed, etc can indicate things like fear, anxiety, and happiness), and flop ears are just so doggone cute (pun intended)!
Load More Replies...Scared of pit bulls but I would adopt this one in a minute...sadly been attacked when I walk my dog
Google “pit bull attacks child”. Hours and hours of stories to read. Most of them go something like this, “it was the family pet and never showed any signs of aggression before now”. Pit bulls are hands down the most aggressive dog breed. I try to understand why anyone would choose one for a pet. I am not posting this to be captain negative. I am posting it in the hope that I can save even one child from being mauled.

The Adoption Center Said To Expect Her To Hide Under The Bed For A Week. Here Is Our New Girl, Millie, After About 4 Hours
I foster cats and it's a big deal that adult cat isn't hiding ❤️ She is very alert though, you can see it in the eyes 😄 Just a tip - cats don't like and don't need collars, especially with bells, which dingle under their ears all day and annoy their hearing. 👈
I do understand you Marta, certainly for inside only cats. But in Australia many people let their cats roam. Cats are a menace in this situation , where they have destroyed species of lizard, native mice and birds in their local area. ( cats have been radio tagged, and shown to roam 10 kilometers in one night )
Load More Replies...Not all ''breakaway'' collars away right away. They can choke if they get stuck before that collar comes apart. Keep her safe inside without a collar.
Millie has some stress issues and is overgrooming her abdomen and leg. It could also be allergy related. Will want to have a vet check that immediately. Give her lots of love and attention and reassurance to help overcome the anxiety. A protective pet onesie may be beneficial after she acclimates.
She don't look like the Millie I know from Thunderclan. Sadly, she died.

I love when they do this ... get veeeeeery long ... rubbing their bellies ... cats are just it. You know, it. When in my town there was a cat café, I went there 2 or 3 times a week when I worked nearby, and I got the most difficult waitress to like me and allow me these things - I never was happier during lunch break than when meeting my friend K***.

and how much time does he devote to singing you the song of his people?
Looks like something you would see at the beginning of a Doctor Who film.
He’s 5-Weeks-Old And Rescued From Having To Go To The Pound. He Farts A Lot And Is Getting The Hang Of A Potty Pad
Check what he was being fed at the pound as it's best to stay on the higher quality stuff especially while they're growing. I've found that the cheaper food contains a lot of fillers that = lots of farts and indigestion for some dogs. Beautiful boy! Oh and get him used to nail clipping while he's a bubba! 😊
Start cutting those nails right away or you will have a problem of long wicks later
He could be gassy by how he's drinking, gulping air as he drinks or the food he's eating doesn't quite agree with him which is common with heavily processed food like kibble. Feed him lean chicken meat with his kibble (chicken hearts raw or cooked) and cut back on the kibble. Regardless, he's adorable ;)

In times of uncertainty, having pets can be incredibly soothing and therapeutic. As seen in the story of Hayley with her Pomeranian and kitten, pets are more than just companions; they become family.

We Rescued Our Neighbour's Chicken. Our Neighbour Was Let Go In The Recent Weeks And Disappeared To The Country Leaving Her Behind
Today I jumped the fence and rescued her. Meet Sammy
I don't understand people who just leave an animal behind. Even if it's not a pet, it's still your responsibility. Good on the neighbours to step in!
I would get a friend or two. Hens don't like living alone, they need a flock. (I have four.)
Why did the human jump the fence? To save the chicken on the other side.

This Stray Adopted Us A Few Days Ago
Not all cats adapt to living indoors, no matter what anyone says. Mine would knock the screens out of the windows to get outside so the only way to keep them in was to keep all the windows closed--not willing to live in a prison.
Is keeping cats indoors all the time an American thing? I hope it is not a silly question, it is just that here in the UK it is usual to allow your cat to pretty much come and go as it pleases. In fact the RSPCA and the Cats Protection League both advocate letting your cat outside where it is safe to do so.
Having had cats in my life 50+ years I can say this with confidence; cats are safer indoors. I've lost outdoor cats in the past to speeding cars, angry unleashed dogs, other animal attacks. Outside kitties are also vulnerable to more fleas, worms etc. I have two cats indoors, both rescued from outside in the 'hood . Just could not watch them suffer & starve outside another minute. They're safe, healthy & happy now. Good luck with your new kitty.
It's a stray, maybe they haven't managed to get it inside yet.

I don't know much about dogs, but that looks like a snarl, with the ears back too. Doesn't look happy.
Load More Replies...That's not a happy dog, that's a dog that feels uncomfortable/threatened and is trying to appease the perceived threat to avoid escalation. A dog showing their upper front teeth like this is a sign of submission, not usually aggression (though it can escalate to that), and even though he's sitting, he looks tense. He's also not looking directly at whoever's holding the camera, and his ears are back. If he's a rescue still getting used to his surroundings, fine, but please don't mislabel his expressions as something 'cute' or 'sweet' and incidentally misinform others. Misinformation about dogs and their behaviors is a big part of what leads to biting, which can in turn lead dogs to be returned to shelters or worse.
That is a very smart and correct observation of this pupper's body language. It looks like the dog is fearful and tries to appease. Most dogs don't like to be photographed because for them it seems similar to staring at them, which is quite aggressive in dog language. That might be the reason for his/her expression.
Load More Replies...While we cannot say for sure what happened before this scene: Dogs do not smile. They can be relaxed or happy or content, but they do not smile. And this is certainly not a relaxed/happy/content looking dog. Could be snarling or captured mid-sneeze, we don't know.
Some dogs smile like that we had a gorgeous and beloved spaniel and she would do this when we got home from work and after school.
When you look at pictures of happy Pitbulls...they definitely smile big. :-)

I Adopted My Little Stargirl, Bowie, Two Days Ago. She’s Adjusting Well
My mum's first indoor cat was black with yellow eyes. She saved him when she was 18 from a church's backyard. A cat had given birth to a litter of five. He was the only black kitten and the woman taking care of the church yard thought him 'devil spawn', and tried to beat him to death. Mum pushed her to the side and took him home. He lived to be 24 and died when I was 14, with half his black coat white from age. We miss him so much.
People are so ignorant when it comes to black cats. Good on your mum for saving the little one.

As far as I know, eye bleach online is what you need after seeing something weird, horrible, freaky, sick etc. So I guess this cat's eyes are so pretty they take the mind off seeing bad things.

This Is Finn. I Adopted Him 2 Weeks Ago
He was likely abused in a previous home. He doesn’t like me approaching him, when he comes near me it’s always cautiously and for a limited time, and I can’t touch him. I would die for this goober!
Thank you for rescuing him. Wishing you both the best possible. I had a cat with similar fear, just gently keep at it. Treats! even if you can not hand feed him, just put down a treat as close as you can get. Talk softly, repeat about every 2 hours. .... It took me 3 weeks to work out what my current rescue loved to eat most. Now we are best friends :))))
I had a cat that was very shy and cautious around me and my family when we adopted her, and in fact the people at the shelter called her Spooks for a long time because she was so easily frightened. It took weeks for her to come out where we could even see her just to even eat. Then after a couple of months she'd climb into the bed at night as far from our feet as possible. Then after six months she refused to be anywhere but in our laps at all possible times ❤ She was the sweetest, most loving, most affectionate and happy cat we ever had--and she was completely black to boot. She lived a long, healthy 18+ years with us

The mom could've just left for a minute to go get some food and they picked up that poor baby and his mom's probably worried >:0 If you see a baby, just wait a minute to see if a parent comes back to get it, please! Then call animal control or something and make sure they aren't separated. Please don't separate a baby from its mother.

Rabbits make great pets. I have had two over the course of several years. However, they are more fragile than cats or dogs. Make sure that they are supervised, especially around wiring because they like to chew. Good luck.

These stories warm my heart, I must admit however that I worry once those now at home quarantined people go back to work and the regular social life that they won't regret and will still spend the necessary time with their pets ... cats will do ok, hope none of these dogs have to be returned :( Also - my two adopted cats hid under the bed and on the highest wardrobe in the house for a good two weeks - and my dog just lay still in his bench for a week untill he got used to everything -- so new owners, don't let yourself be fooled or get unrealistic high expecations - it can go super well - or it may need a little longer - but you will have a friend for life in any case :) xxx #adoptdontshop
Good to know that other rescued cats climb as high as it gets in their first weeks home. Our newest rescue (now three years old) climbed up the bookcases that line the house and for a while we couldn't tell where he was. He still likes to hang out there, but I think now he does it to prove he's the king of the house.
Load More Replies...I just hope none of those adopted animals go back to shelters, or are tossed away, after the pandemic is over. People tend to get animals during stressful times, like Christmas or Easter
I really hope, people don't forget to get their puppies slowly used ot being alone. I am also worried that mayn pets will be returned back to the shelters, once lockdowns are over and people are back at work.
I applaud anyone who homes an older or special needs pet, rather than a kitten, puppy. or other baby 'furry'. I worry that some people adopting kittens that are too young to be weaned properly (not the case in an emergency or abandonment situation). The shelter I got my last adopted cat(then five months old) would not let them go until they were 12 weeks old, saying that 8 weeks is the minimum they would ever recommend for a private adoption situation. The unwanted cat I got from a friend's friend was given away too soon and it affected her ability to groom herself properly... I got her at 6 months. [EXTRA NOTE: People should also ensure they get their pet spayed or neutered- to prevent unwanted litters].
Thank you Dutch for your comment. People almost always want a puppy or a kitten, don't realize it takes a lot more patience and training. Just hang in there, please.

I have recently become a "time share" owner of a cat. I first met him a couple of weeks ago when I saw him sunbathing in my garden. He has now made friends with my dogs who were nervous of him at first because he is bigger than them and he now spends 2-3 evenings a week in my house. I have even started buying him food and he has his own blanket here. I have seen him with several other people and I don't think he is a stray as he is very well fed (okay, he's fat!) and in very good condition.
It is very heartwarming to see all these cute faces adopted but one thing I saw in a lot of pictures worries me. PLEASE cat owners - read about collars with bells and take them off or at least take off the bell. Your cat will be much happier ❤️🐈
If they're indoor, certainly, but if they're outdoor then no. Outdoor cats, either feral/stray or owned, are responsible for the extinction of MULTIPLE species of birds in the past 50-75 years, and can contribute to other problems in local ecosystems, namely overpredation. The bell stays on while my cat is outside, but when she's ready to come in it comes off. If you're going to have an indoor/outdoor or strictly outdoor cat, PLEASE be a responsible cat owner and have them spayed/neutered, and don't contribute to the massive problem of overpopulated cats!
